Description
Finally, an authentic, person-centered approach to wellness
Are you caught in the web of promises spun by the wellness industry? Many of us seek transformative health journeys only to end up back where we started, our efforts unraveling and old habits creeping in. What are we missing?
When Dr. Kim Foster was a practicing physician, her days were filled with telling people what to do and why to do it. Despite these efforts, her patients struggled to make the desired changes stick. In Redesigning You, Dr. Foster reveals that our collective preoccupation with the what, why, and how of healthy habits has distracted us from the most important piece: the who, the person at the heart of the matter.
Drawing on behavioral psychology, conversations with her patients, and her own encounter with a rare autoimmune disorder, Dr. Foster guides you to ground your wellness efforts in your own interests and values. Go deeper than surface-level with a method for wellness that is so true, so authentic, it feels effortless. The Redesigning You three-step framework empowers you to embrace holistic wellness in place of quick-fix solutions and fad diets.
• Step 1: Recognize. Uncover the hidden patterns, beliefs, and stories shaping your current reality.
• Step 2: Redesign. Create a new, empowering vision for yourself by rewriting those beliefs and reframing your self-concept.
• Step 3: Ritualize: Turn these changes into sustainable, daily practices that reinforce your transformation.
For any change to be sustainable, it must fit with your concept of yourself. This is your invitation to making changes that are rooted in positive, genuine beliefs about yourself, and which manifest in lifelong healthy habits that feel natural and authentic.
Advance Praise
“If you’ve tried all the plans, programs, and promises—and still feel stuck—Redesigning You explains why. This book shifts the focus from willpower to identity, helping change feel natural, lasting, and aligned with who you truly are.” —Wendy Valentine, author of Women Waking Up
“A smart, compassionate guide to change that actually lasts. Dr. Kim Foster shows people how to redesign their health through small, strategic shifts that work in real life, not through willpower and extremes. Clear, empowering, and deeply practical.” —Courtney Townley, author of The Consistency Code
“Redesigning You is a powerful reminder that true health begins on the inside. Most of us spend years trying to fix our bodies without ever examining the stories we tell ourselves. Kim shows us exactly why that matters. The result is an insightful book that will transform the way you see yourself and how you show up in the world.” —Simon Alexander Ong, author of Energize

Grateful to have discovered this title. It goes deeper than my weekly hour of therapy, and it's what I need for where I am on my journey. The information is well-researched and helpful. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
Redesigning You goes beyond the usual health advice by asking a different question. Instead of focusing only on habits, diet, or exercise, Kim Foster explores the stories we tell ourselves and how those beliefs shape our choices over time. That perspective really resonated with me. The book encourages lasting change by looking at mindset first, and I appreciated that it doesn't promise quick fixes or overnight transformation.
I also liked how the book balances encouragement with practical exercises that invite genuine self-reflection. Rather than leaving the ideas at a theoretical level, Foster offers ways to put them into practice and begin making small, meaningful changes. I finished the book feeling motivated instead of overwhelmed, which isn't always the case with books in this genre. It's a thoughtful read for anyone looking to build healthier habits by starting from the inside out. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance review copy. All opinions are my own.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read an early copy of this book. This is my opinion.
I'm not sure where to begin with this review, so I'll just jump in. I've read a lot of books about personal development, health, mental health, psychology, and so on. This book caught my eye because of the title and the description.
While the content isn't completely new to me, the way in which the author presents it, the way she breaks it down, and the way she walks the reader through various questions and steps, is different. It's different in a very good way. She provides a very clear path, a very doable path, for the reader to follow. Yes, there's background and supporting information, but it's the thought exercises, the questions, the affirmations that really make this book standout. It shows the reader how, which is something that is usually missing in books like this one.
There's a lot to gain from this book just by reading it cover to cover. Many people do just that, they read and never do the exercises or suggestions in the books they read. I want to add that if readers follow this process, if they think about what's being offered, and if they answer the questions, and do the affirmations, I think they'll see real lasting change. So, I suppose what I'm trying to say is that this book delivers on its promise.
I recommend this book. I know it's one that I will come back to again, and it's also one I'll gladly recommend to friends and family.
What sets this apart from the usual wellness advice is the reframe: instead of another book about habits, diets, or willpower, Foster asks what story you're telling yourself underneath all of that, and how that story is quietly running the show. As someone who's read more than my fair share of personal development books, I found the three-step framework, recognize, redesign, ritualize, refreshingly practical rather than just another motivational pep talk.
The exercises are where this book actually earns its keep. The affirmations, reflection questions, and step-by-step prompts give you something to actually do rather than just nod along to, which is where a lot of books in this space fall flat. That said, I will say the underlying advice, at its core, isn't wildly novel, it's essentially a very well-dressed goal-setting framework, so if you've already read a lot in this genre, some of it may feel familiar even if the packaging and delivery are genuinely well done. For someone newer to this kind of self-work, though, I think it would land as much more revelatory.
I closed this one feeling motivated rather than overwhelmed, which is honestly rare for this genre, and that alone makes it worth the read.
