Going out on top! And I have been fortunate to be entertained for the past half century by a master storyteller. Adam and Eve follows a pattern, the author has used before successfully. A love story, rich and poor, and national (or international) events being intertwined in a very enjoyable story.

I've been reading Jeffrey Archer for many many years and I'm always totally wrapped up in his stories. By now I know his style and the flow of this book was very predictable for me. But did that take away from anything? Not a bit. It is a lovely story to lose yourself in and I'm quite sad that this is his last novel. It has some cute quirks to it that I think all readers will enjoy.

Adam (the son of a farmer) and Eve (the daughter of an Earl who employs Adam’s father and mother) are born on the same day in 1918. The story chronicles their lives together despite the class differences. There are a multitude of different characters who play a part in their stories through schooling, wars, and historical events such as the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, the abdication of the throne by the Duke of Windsor and the rise of Adolph Hitler. The novel is fascinating reading and several descriptive events are quite emotional. The novel, which Jeffrey Archer claims is his last, atones for his most recent dismal books referred to as the William Warwick chronicles. It is easy to recommend this novel to all readers and I thank NetGalley and Harper Collins Publishers for the opportunity to read and review this novel prior to its publication.

A mix of emotions when I received this book - excited to read another Jeffrey Archer book and sad to hear it is his last book. He is a master of historical fiction and especially of multigenerational fiction, and this book does not disappoint - for the most part. The story of Adam, the extremely intelligent son of a shepherd, and Eve, the shrewd but prefers animals to people and books daughter of the Earl, is a good one. You know from the start that they must end up in love - even with the obstacles in their way. And I am not giving anything away but saying that they do fall in love and there is trouble in their relationship - trouble and multiple obstacles. The fact that they can never get married seems sometimes far-fetched, even though there is a way on; you think they would have found a way. Also, the story of Martin Fisher and the role he plays in this novel, and how Adam thwarts him at every opportunity - even to save the King and family is also a little far-fetched, as how could one man play such a role in history?

But if you put aside belief, then this is a fun novel and certainly on par with other Archer novels. I only wish this one could also become a multigenerational tale, but since it is, sadly, his last, I guess it won't be. "Adam & Eve" This is the first Jeffrey Archer novel I have been fortunate enough to read. It is both heart-warming and tragic, predictable and unpredictable, and moving. Dickens meets Bond. A fine novel to go out on.

To receive a copy of this arc and know that it’s Jeffrey Archer’s final book, I could not have been any more excited about the opportunity to read it early. I have followed Mr. Archer's career from the eighties, through trials and tribulations, with him always returning to author great novels of suspense, law, thrillers, firsthand experiences, and adventures.

My honest opinion: Adam and Eve is Jeffrey Archer's most ambitious and moving novel to date. Spanning thirty-five pivotal years—from the end of World War I through the outbreak of World War II and Britian’s entrance to the war. It follows two children born on Armistice Day in 1918 as German surrenders in the Great War: Lady Evelina Brancaster, the daughter of an earl, and Adam Preston, the son of a shepherd on their estate.

As they grow up together, educated side by side on Eve's family estate, there is no doubt about their class status in life, but their personalities make for a Nora Ephron type rom-com story. Adam is thoughtful, disciplined, and academically gifted, while Eve is spoiled, loathes school and thrives on competition. Their relationship becomes the emotional heart of a story set against one of England’s most turbulent times- abdication to war.

The romance between Adam and Eve is beautifully written into a compelling story that is filled with political discord, espionage, dangerous conspiracies: all in the shadow of Hitler’s rise to power in 1933. Archer masterfully blends historical facts with fictional storytelling, incorporating clever “devil’s advocate” twist surrounding Hitler’s plans for the British invasion that will leave you both stunned and thankful that the Germans weren’t that smart.

This is everything I want in historical fiction: richly researched, emotionally engaging, and populated with multidimensional, unforgettable characters who all serve a purpose to the story- from the servants to the royals. Adam and Eve are among Archer's finest creations, and I sincerely hope Adam and Eve becomes the novel for which he is best remembered.
If you're looking for the perfect addition to your fall reading list, make it Adam and Eve. I know you won’t be disappointed. It's easily one of my top ten books of the year.

I’ve been a devoted Jeffrey Archer reader since his very first book, so I was delighted to receive an advance copy of Adam and Eve. Knowing this is his final novel is bittersweet, but I found this stand‑alone story completely satisfying and reminiscent of his best work. Archer delivers a wonderful cast of characters, admirable heroes and truly despicable villains, and he brings England during the novel’s era to life with vivid, atmospheric detail.

Even though the broad historical outcome is familiar, Archer still manages to create remarkable suspense. The blend of historical fiction, romance, and tension works beautifully, and the narrative feels both sweeping and intimate.

Although I’m generally not a fan of short stories, Archer’s collections have always been the exception, and I hope he’ll treat readers to a few more in his well‑earned retirement.

It’s rare for a renowned author to announce that a book will be his final novel, but Adam and Eve is a fitting and impressive farewell. Archer ties up every thread with care, and longtime fans will appreciate how thoughtfully he closes this chapter of his career. Very highly recommended, and heartfelt thanks to the author for so many memorable books over the decades.

Jeffrey Archer has a way of building his books in such a way that the reader doesn't always know what kind of story they're in for, and that is most true about his newest book, "Adam and Eve." I have read all of Archer's books and loved them all, so while I had high hopes about this book, I was also anticipating some cookie-cutter plotlines; I was so wonderfully proved wrong, though. Every time I thought I knew where the plot was going based on previous books, Archer zagged where I thought he would zig. He kept true to his well-honed voice, but still managed to breathe fresh perspective into this novel.
The novel centers around two characters born on the same day, within walking distance of each other, one in a grand estate, the other in a small cottage. I appreciate that Archer subverted common gender roles in this novel by making Eve the one with a great aptitude for farming, and Adam the more traditionally intelligent one. I think doing that struck a great balance among his characters' strengths; neither really felt "above" the other. I also liked that the novel's main plot really only took place over the course of a few years, so the reader wasn't working through the entire war, really just one main point.
Truly one of Archer's best novels, and one he can be proud to end his career with.

Jeffrey Archer's final book! Mixed feelings. I feel blessed to have read practically all his books and I am sad that it is his last book but glad that he got the time to make the choice to write a final book. After 50 years of writing, his unique writing style is well-known but that didn't take anything away from this book. The storybuliding, character development and even the little suspense and twists made this book a joy to read. A great final from a master!
I was excited to get the ARC from Harper 360 | HarperCollins via Netgalley. This is my honest review

What a delight of a book! Adam & Eve is one of the rare books that I immediately began looking forward to reading it again as I finished it. I have already pre-ordered a copy for myself and cannot wait for it to be sitting on my bookshelf ready to be read again in the autumn with a cup of tea.

The book begins with the births of Adam and Eve as the First World War comes to a close and follows them and their friends and families through the peaceful years and into the Second World War. As readers, we obviously know WWII was looming, but it was fascinating to see the character’s lives unfold without that knowledge of what the future holds. I was amazed at how the author managed to write such a cozy story while having it take place in tumultuous times. Many characters had harrowing experiences and had to come to terms with deep losses, but Brancaster Hall and its surrounding community felt so stable and safe that it always seemed like everything was going to be ok in the end.

On the flip side, the plot was full of twists and turns and I was surprised many times! I never would have guessed the path the story took, which added a fun element to the book. I will say, parts were a bit fantastical! Everything was not always believable, but I found it very charming and I really enjoyed how many times the story made me gasp in surprise and laugh out loud!

Another element of the book I really enjoyed was how many historical details were included. I felt like I was actually in the scenes because they were described so well. I also learned a lot of new facts and was often pausing my reading to look up more information on something mentioned in the book, whether it was relating to competitive sprinting in the 1930’s or the fight for women’s rights in the United Kingdom or the farm labourer unions!

This book has something for almost everyone. History buffs will be delighted. Mystery fans will enjoy trying to untangle some of the mysteries in the book. Anyone who loves Downton Abbey would adore this book. Anyone who likes cozy reads and escaping into a fun story won’t be disappointed.
