Description

Before they exchange even a single word, Corrine knows that James will change everything. And sure enough, their serendipitous meeting in a North Carolina coffee shop sets off a whirlwind of desire and possibilities for the two.

Timing, however, isn’t on the couple’s side. After their relationship ends, Corrine finds that years of putting her career and passions on hold for love have led to a stalled life. She once saw her receptionist job as temporary but got too comfortable and, before she knew it, lost sight of her dream of becoming a writer.

Now, as Corrine makes her way into her late twenties, she’s on a quest to find herself. As she struggles to figure out what she really wants, she’ll discover that sometimes you have to take happiness into your own hands and that a fulfilling life is built on opportunities—even the missed ones.

Before they exchange even a single word, Corrine knows that James will change everything. And sure enough, their serendipitous meeting in a North Carolina coffee shop sets off a whirlwind of desire...

Advance Praise

"…a timely, inspiring story with honest, likable characters and compelling North Carolina settings. I very much enjoyed following Corrine as she navigates the choppy waters of early adulthood, sorting out her desires and dreams as best she can. A poignant read for those of us who have floundered through it ourselves." —Angel Schroeder, Owner of Sunrise Books

The writing is poetic and dense at the same time and rings true in my gut. Idol absolutely knows her subject and characters intimately. The point of view changes between two protagonists and is done eloquently and on point. Time jumps back and forth between present and past while following a normal timeline. The female protagonist is obsessive and sometimes the author is too, and sometimes I want the story to move faster but then realize there is more to learn. I am enjoying the tale and it is holding my attention.
A complicated story line, that changes point of view along with linear and non linear narrative which makes the story intriguing. Switching time between chronological events and keeping track of the present is a difficult task for any writer and this writer excels at it. Idol has a poetic voice and is familiar with her characters' habits and speech patterns. The female protagonist sometimes gets a bit annoying and cloying with her clinginess, Her obsessiveness and inability to let go of a dead romance that is very alive in her heart and apparently her ex has difficulty also letting go even though he is currently realigned to another in his love life. Well written dialogue and good story line.
