After enjoying The Time Trials, I was excited to continue the journey, and The Fifth Timekeeper did not disappoint. The authors continue expanding their imaginative world while raising both the emotional and narrative stakes. Every new revelation added another fascinating layer to the story, and I loved slowly uncovering the larger mystery alongside the characters.
What I continue to appreciate most about this series is how well it balances exciting adventure with meaningful character development. The relationships feel authentic, and every challenge helps the characters grow in believable ways. By the end, I found myself eager for the next installment because I'm not quite ready to leave this world behind.
A wonderful continuation that delivers everything I hoped for and more.

Ooo where to start. I liked this 2nd book less than book 1 honestly, and I think a lot of it had to do with the shallow relationship drama (I did not vibe with it). I liked being back with these characters & the overall storyline again though. It just feels like this one just lost the spark that made book 1 so fun, which left me wanting and a little sad. I still really like this series/concept though, & ultimately want to give it 3.5 stars rounded up.
We only did 2 trials, and the first one was very forgettable with Ryans arrival. We lost sight of the magic of the trials/competition & focused more on the organization behind them, but in doing so the storyline felt lost.
We spent way more time on Finn & his (unbelievable) relationship drama. Personally, I love a shake up. But I disagreed with BOTH Finn & Everly's actions literally in the same scene(s) multiple times. It made the chemistry immediately tank, and made me want them to break up. I'd venture to guess I wasn't supposed to feel like that 😅 On top of this, Ryan was extremely likeable and frankly my favorite character.
Overall, there was just something with this plotline that didn't work for me. It felt a little all over the place, focused on the wrong things, and then the twist was a dull thud as a result. It had echos of The Hunger Games, even moreso than book 1 (literally mirrors the plotline of book 2 with the whole plot twist thing, iykyk). Book 1 was guilty of this too a little but book 2 wasn't as overlookable as book 1.
BUT LIKE I SAID. I am still giving this a 4 star. I want this book to win. I want this series to get the love it deserves. Even if I don't agree with the direction this book went to get there, I am still very invested in the series/plot and need to see where that cliffhanger goes. I have ideas, so many ideas, and I need to know! I am hopeful for book 3 now that we have a new direction, and will be reading it in the future!
