Description
Fear Has Big Eyes / The Monster in the Dark is a thrilling yet reassuring story that helps children understand fear and discover the courage to face it. When Theo has to spend an evening without his parents, a powerful storm rages outside. As darkness falls, strange noises begin to come from the basement—and Theo’s imagination quickly turns them into terrifying monsters lurking in the shadows. Combining suspense with a warm and positive message, the story shows young readers that fear is a natural part of life and that even the things that seem frightening can be faced with courage, hope, and self-confidence. Created in collaboration with a child psychologist, the book offers a sensitive and age-appropriate way to help children talk about their fears, understand their emotions, and learn practical ways to cope with them.

This story follows a young lad who is scared of the dark. He gets invited to a group, where the aim is for the kids to discuss what they are scared of, in the hopes that it will help them manage and overcome their fears. He then walks home but the night is against him and he becomes more and more scared as the evening progresses.
Overall, this could be a fun spooky story for kids, a reminder that often if we talk to someone about what scares us, they may be able to help us overcome our fear or realize that it isn't quite as bad as we think it might be.
I did find the writing style a little odd at times and there were a words/phrases that seemed a bit unusual for a child to be using.
The last couple of pages have a few activities for the reader to do and I thought the inclusion of a little questionnaire to get kids thinking about the book and maybe even their own fears, was a good inclusion.
