Julia deserves the whole world & the biggest hug. She is one of the few characters I feel like I truly relate to. I loved her humour and the fact she never backed down from keeping Damion humble.

“Red flag? I’ll tell you what’s a red flag. Abs. A dude with abs has chosen hotness over pasta, and that doesn’t sit right with me. F*** off with that.” - quite possibly the realest thing I’ve ever read in my life.

Damion is a bit of a condescending jerk at first… but he definitely grew on me and I really appreciated his arc and growth as a character. He and Julia have GREAT banter and I had literally the biggest smile reading about them. They’re both so hopelessly, obliviously and nauseatingly in love with each other it was so cute to read about.

Dare I say - Beckett may have stolen the show for me though!! He had me in stitches at time and I just wanted to know so much more about him!

I laughed, I cried & I had the best time reading this !

This book is INCREDIBLE, i was hooked from the very start. Julia Lowell and her family are from Nebraska just living a normal life, until they inherit millions of dollars from an old man who at first they didn’t seem to know. But whats the catch? The whole family had to move all the way to New York for 6 months and go to Gardenwood for school. Then there’s Damion Rutledge, he’s the grand nephew to Remington (the old man). His family got nothing from Remington after his passing despite Damion being very close to him so, when they find out a seemingly random family got their inheritance they assume the worst and are willing to do anything to get it back.

Damion and Julia don’t exactly have a “meet cute” because well they completely hated each other at first. Damion just seemed like every other spoilt prep school kid who got anything and everything he wanted with no repercussions. And Julia was the daughter to some “new money” family who (at least according to Damion’s family) tricked an old man into giving up his inheritance. Throughout the book you can see how both characters slowly realise that the other isn’t what they seemed at first. Also Damion is HOT i was genuinely blushing the whole time because of how flirty he is, my boy is DOWN BAD. Julia to me is a very relatable character, she isn’t perfect, her math grades are so low that Gardenwood makes her get a tutor (real..) and she doesn’t manage to fit in well at school due to being from Nebraska and being new money.

There also Remi/Lou, even though he was dead for the whole book, he plays such a big part in the story and is an insanely loveable character. He was like a father to Damion and also very important to Julia which makes it feel like they were destined to be together (which I totally believe they were Damion and Julia are perfect together). I also find it adorable that each chapter starts with a quote from Remington relating to the chapter. I think it’s such a cute way to keep him relevant even in chapters that don’t involve him.

Overall Trust Fall by Lynn Painter is an amazing book and I’d even say one of my favourite romances ever. It has adorable autumn vibes and to me it gives slight inheritance games vibes. I can’t wait for it to release so I can talk about it with all my bookish friends!!!

Accidentally Amy is one of my all-time FAVE reads, so when I realised this was my first Lynn Painter YA novel, I was very much like… WHERE HAVE I BEEN?! And let me tell you, it absolutely will not be my last.

I am significantly older than our main characters, but my gosh, did this book dredge up some FEELINGS. Not in a bad way at all, but in that very specific way where you read a character and think, oh no… I remember feeling exactly like this. Jules felt SO relatable to me, and this story reminded me of that time in my life when first loves felt completely all-consuming, when one person could somehow become your entire world and every little interaction felt like the biggest thing that had ever happened. There was something so nostalgic about being reminded of that intensity.

Because Lynn Painter is funny. She is witty. She writes banter that makes me grin like an idiot. But it’s not just surface-level humour or romance, there is something so incredibly genuine underneath it all. Her characters feel messy and emotional and wonderfully human, and I think that’s what makes her books hit so much harder than you expect them to.

I love NYC. I love autumn. I love a bit of romance. The cover is gorge.

This book just made me HAPPY. It reminded me why I love romance, why I now love Lynn Painter, and why sometimes you need a book that gives you butterflies, makes you laugh, and takes you right back to a version of yourself you haven't thought about in a long time.

This is easily Lynn Painter's best book yet. I loved the whole story of this, the elite NYC school, the family tension, the society style events! Arghhh can not get enough. I hope this book turns into a movie or show!

As someone who has high expectations from books, particularly from authors whose books I’ve previously enjoyed, this book did not disappoint at all. It was so refreshing to see a slight change in Painter’s writing. There’s been a big decrease in the amount of song mentions, which I think helped to make the book different for a change. Rather, the songs were replaced with literature and poetry lines, which I loved so much — it added depth to the characters. The relationship of Julia and Damion was so perfectly constructed and the build-up to that relationship was so, so good.

I think the settings were the things that stood out most in this book because of the pivotal role they played to the story and to the characters, especially. The book showed perfectly on how the settings helped both Julia and Damion discover parts of themselves. The Autumn/Fall theme in New York was so beautiful and I loved to see the small switches to Springfield in Nebraska.

I really think this is my new favourite of Lynn Painter’s books so far, which is saying something because I never thought I’d love another book by her more than Betting On You. From someone who was slightly disappointed with Fake Skating last year (though I still loved it), I genuinely really, really loved this book so much. I’ll be definitely buying the book physically as soon as it comes out!!!

I love when a new Lynn Painter book comes out, honestly it makes me feel so giddy. I’ve said before she’s one of my queens of rom-com and this hit just right!
New York in fall was such a dream and it was its own main character. The banter was so good, the enemies, dual POV and so many swoon-worthy moments.

I loved how it handled grief as they both came to terms with their own loss. I felt connected to Julia through her anxiety too and Damion’s always trying to meet his parent’s expectations. It was great to get an insight into Remingtons character and his quotes made me laugh even though he wasn’t on page.

Soooo good!!!! its so cute and has the best characters!! DAMION IS THE BEST!!!!

Anyway before reading this BTTM (better than the movies) was my favourite book of all time and I did not think that would ever change. BUT I think it might now be this book! The tension and chemistry between the two main characters is unmatched and they are PERFECT together!!

I also love the New York setting and the fact that Damion is such a good guy, despite him wanting to hate Julia. I almost cried at one point too because I just felt so bad for him and Julia.

This is a 5 star read and I think anyone who loves YA romance (or even just any romance with depth and yearning) should read this because its PERFECT!

This is my second Lynn Painter book and it was an pleasant, chaste romance that suits teen readers 13+. This author writes dialogue well and the characters are well formed. Whilst I loved the Nebraska setting of Fake Skating I thought the New York location was a great backdrop for this rags to riches, enemies to lovers romance.

Lynn Painter has done it again.

After discovering Better Than The Movies 3 years ago, I had never been so hooked. Mrs Painter writes just like the way I feel, its so colloquial and so honest I feel so empathetically towards these characters and universes she has created.

This would not be a Lynn Painter special without a fake dating trope but the way this happened and was arranged was so much more nuanced then 'I wanna make them jealous so lets fake date'. Just like how she created a new situation in her book Fake Skating, the unique scenario of how Julia and Damion's 'fake dating' came about was just PERFECT for their characters. I love the way she dealt with writing about grief and family pressure and it made these characters far more complexed then the perfect boy next door (though that it not to say I LOVE those characters).

I have not read many books that had such clear setting description, immersing you fully in it. They way the beautiful parks and bodegas were described from New York and the outback setting and lake of Nebraska made this book that much better.

Julia is so like the other girls written before but she comes across a lot more different. She want's to fit in and find out were she belongs but she doesn't let anyone step over her. Damion who is so confidant in his passionate anger and envy towards her but falling for her just like we all did reading about her just makes such a strong sense of connection to these characters.

I want to thank Net Galley and Mrs Painters team for gifting me with the opportunity to read this amazing book and I know, fellow readers that you will enjoy this book just as I have and fall in love with the world and people living within the pages of this book.
