Description

Brigitta Lantz is tired of being different. Too excitable. Too worldly. Too much for her large Amish community in Pennsylvania.

She overhears Amish shoppers discussing a bachelor all the way in Maple Creek, Washington. He's been heard to joke he's willing to do just about anything to find a bride to join him on his successful farm.

Brigitta, no fool, rushes home to write to this man, Levi Mueller. To her delight, he writes back agreeing to a fake marriage.

But once the marriage has taken place, living together pushes them to consider the possibility of a happily-ever-after. Will they be able to overcome the hurdles? Will their community accept and forgive them for their untruthful union?

Brigitta Lantz is tired of being different. Too excitable. Too worldly. Too much for her large Amish community in Pennsylvania.

This one completely stole my heart! It's such a cozy, beautifully tender romance packed with crisp autumn atmosphere, fake-dating sweet tension, and a quiet emotional warmth that leaves you with the absolute biggest smile when you turn the last page.

This was such a fun read, and very different!
Mail order bride? Not quite, although, she did move from Pennsylvania to the State of Washington.
Neither were as they said they were, but neither was really disappointed.
The author did stretch the fiction in this book, but I found it very enjoyable!
This is a very quick, but page turning read that I didn't want to end, and full of surprises, all the way to the end!
I received this book through Net Galley and was not required to give a positive review.

The Amish Candlemaker’s Fake Fall Marriage by Mackenzie Boone is her Amish Tales of Pumpkin Hollow. This is my first book that I have read by Boone and I really enjoyed it. I didn’t want to put it down. It’s the perfect fall Christian romance. Lessons learned, opened hearts and Faith bring this unconventional couple together. Thank you to #NetGalley and #Independently Published for this arc. This is my honest review. Released May 8, 2026.

Loved reading the inspirational and awesome story. Even though Brigitta and Levi have a fake marriage, both of them star to develop feelings toward each other. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written, and a must read riveting romance story.

The Amish Candlemaker's Fake Fall Marriage Amish Tales of Pumpkin Spice Hollow by McKenzie Boone is my first read by author McKenzie Boone, and it did not disappoint, because it is original. Showing even a Amish Bishop can have faults. After all they are human also.
Brigitta and Levi are both very wonderful characters. Brigitta is the one that is fun, loving, and would try almost anything. In this way, she begins to bring Levi out of his conservative shell. Although they both agree to a fake marriage, they learned that only truth is the way to live.

I love the setting of the story. You can feel the seasons approaching the town. The story itself moves along smoothly and swiftly you are not ever bored.

I was given an ARC by the author and Independently Published through NetGalley, but was not required to give a positive review. Release day is May 8, 2026. Pre-order you’re five star book today.

Brigitta and Levi wrote letters to each other but Brigitta lied about her appearance so Levi didn't even recognize her when he saw her!

Brigitta didn't even know if she wanted to stay Amish, but she asked Levi to marry her but they would have no physical contact.

Levi married her so he could keep his inheritance, but something happened as the weeks went by..

This book by McKenzie Boone is the first NetGalley book that I finished the day I downloaded it. I just couldn't stop. I've read many books that had great, even wonderful, characters. I've read many Amish books that received a 5-star rating. And something about this one was unusual.

Those of you who have followed my reviews know that I come down, well, hard on writers that "play" with the Amish traditions. And trust me, the Amish in this Washington state community are different. Quite different. And it didn't bother me. Why? I think it was how she (the candlemaker) was brought up. Very strict Amish Old Order, but even more than required. So the freedom and differences in the Washington community were wonderful. And somehow, it fit. It wasn't that the writer didn't *know*, but simply made these Amish *different*.

This is sorta a mail-order bride story, as they do "meet" via email. She is feisty. Bold. Often acts before she thinks. Drives her grandparents up a wall. And the more they tighten the leash... she doesn't rebel, but she does keep being herself. Ever been the last one asked? Or not asked at all? Every other girl has been asked to the prom -- but not you? Well, that's her situation. She is full of life and creativity, but always left out.

Now him -- only son of an Amish bishop (but this is a very different community). Much loved. And his death was a loss to his son. His father's will astonished, I think, the lawyer as much as the son. I can say that once you find out ... if that were you, you'd be astonished too.

Because of what had happened to her. Because of what was in the will, they agreed to an unthinkable fake marriage. I'm not giving anything away. It's in the title. And I can't tell you more, but I hope this has tantalized you to read this very different Amish story.

I have never read or even heard of McKenzie Boone. And I have not been buried in a potato patch. Amish mysteries are my favorite genre. Amish fiction and historical fiction are next on the list. I've read 100s of Amish novels. This isn't a first book for writer Boone, who has written quite a few. But I definitely will be reading more. I'm hoping there is a follow-up to this one where a certain Amish minister gets his comeuppance.

I highly recommend this book. I was provided a DRC (digital review copy) of this book by NetGalley. The book was Independently Published. The review is my own. I was not required in any way to write a positive review.
