Description
Becky Culpepper lives at 34 Rufus Street. You might be surprised to know that is her name because most people think her name is Becky Brush-Your-Hair. But no matter how many people tell her, or how often, Becky never brushes her hair.
One morning, just as Becky was leaving for school, her mom called, "Becky! Brush your hair. Something terrible could happen!" This is the story of the something terrible that did.
Sally Barton weaves a brush-with-disaster pony-tale of do's and do-knots in this tangled mess of the terrible things that happen on Rufus Street.

I absolutely loved this book! The story is whimsical and wacky, and the way it's written was very enjoyable to read. I, too, have a daughter that doesn't enjoy brushing her hair and it was funny to think of this crazy story happening to her. I think kids will like the predictable series of events as she gets larger and larger birds stuck in her hair and when they all fly away. I know my daughter also enjoys books where specific words are accentuated in different fonts. I chuckled at so many of the little side jokes but the Twelve Days of Christmas one was my favorite! I was glad to see at the end that this is a series and I'm looking forward to reading the others!

This is a chapter book with black and white illustrations. It is about a girl named Becky who does not brush her thick red hair, and the absurd adventures she gets into because of it.
It’s a very upbeat story with silly energy. I like that it includes random facts like the colors that make up a rainbow and that a group of peacocks is called a party.
Some of the words are bolded or in a different font. This is fun, and perhaps helpful for those readers who struggle with large portions of text, or who are just starting to read chapter books.
While the story might be a little too fanciful for some tastes, overall it’s a nice choice for those looking for something light and amusing for their readers who have just begun reading chapter books.

I received an electronic ARC from Publisher Spotlight | Walker Books Australia through NetGalley.
Mid elementary level readers will appreciate the humor and identify with not wanting to brush their hair just like the main character. Becky's refusal leads to an absurd conclusion that offers numerous opportunities for fun and adventure. I love the rare birds that lay their eggs in her hair and launch the rest of the ridiculousness in the story. The ending works well and brings closure to Becky's story.
