A great book with everything you expect to see in helping you achieve your goals. Great depth and recipes as well. The author really knows their audience.

Nice book!
There are some great recipes here, and lots of tips for when to plant garden items, how to can, etc. Enjoyed it!

This is a very nice compilation of advice and recipes from the Amish. The Amish have received quite a bit of publicity in recent years with many fiction books and even some cookbooks like this on the market. The author, Wanda E. Brunstetter, is well known for her popular Christian fiction books. I was delighted when I saw that she had this new cookbook.
I enjoy growing a small garden every summer, so my family can have lots of fresh, organic vegetables to eat. I appreciated that the author took the time to add tips from Amish gardeners. The tips range from advice on when to plant, plant foods that can be made at home to homemade sprays that keep insects away. I plan on trying some of these ideas this summer.
The main part of any cookbook is the recipes, and this book has a nice selection. here are some of the recipes: Broccoli pasta salad; apple salad; grape salad; layered lettuce salad; favorite cucumber salad; potato salad; butternut squash soup; chicken vegetable soup; summer garden chili; garden skillet; six-layer dinner; chicken and biscuit casserole; taco stuffed peppers; easy vegetable quiche; sausage stuffed zucchini; hot vegetable pizza; corn fritters; apple corn bread; tomato fritters; fried eggplant; green beans three ways; apple crisp; pear cake; blackberry pudding cobbler; carrot cake; fruit pizza; fresh peach pie; famous lemon pie; pumpkin pie; rhubarb nut bread; strawberry cream cake roll; zucchini brownies; zucchini pie; chocolate bean cake; apple oatmeal pancakes; fruit dip; and pepper poppers.
There are also canning recipes; however, the book says because the information is by home cooks, it may not follow professional recommendations. Since I don't can anything, this is not important to me.
Overall, the cookbook is lovely with some photos--there aren't pictures of every recipe. And I think it is definitely a keeper. I received a preview download from Netgalley to review. I don't get to keep the download, and this is a book I would buy.

I loved this cookbook! I have read dozens of selections of Amish fiction, but never a cookbook. I enjoy reading Wanda E. Brunstetter and this was no exception. I know most people don't read cookbooks, but there was more than just recipes. I found the gardening tips at the beginning of the book handy as we usually have a small garden each summer. I received a preview download from Netgalley to review.

Wonderful and useful tips and delightful recipes. Vivid pictures that make it seem as though you can smell the food and touch the scenes. Awesomely put together and recommend everyone check it out.

These delicious and wholesome recipes are everything that I would have loved to have gotten from my grandmothers! And the garden-related recipes are interesting, too; I will try them first the next time I have bugs or fungus problems in the garden!

This cookbook is sure to become one of my favorites. I love all of the different recipes from the Amish., I plan to add many of them to my own collection for future use. These are recipes that are sure to be a favorite among both family and friends. It gives many different ideas from Salads to Preserving. Also in the front is a surprise for various tips from bug repellents to gardening hints. One always wonders how Amish gardens grow so well., This is one book I plan to add to my collection of cookbooks. I received an ebook copy through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

A wonderful selection of authentic Amish recipes. Wonderful introduction on what gardening means to the Amish and wonderful tips for non chemical pest repellent for common garden pests plus natural remedies for various ailments from poison ivy to sunburns. The rest of the book is divided into different categories from salads to deserts. There's also chapters on snacks and extras plus preserving the harvest bounty. There's also a nice index listing recipes by key ingredient. Overall a wonderful book that will delight novice to expert cooks.

A wonderful book full of wisdom and photos. Love the tip section in the beginning, on how to take care of bugs and plant diseases in the garden. I've only tried a couple of recipes so far, but the broccoli pasta salad was a great hit in our house. Highly recommend this book, as it would make a nice addition to most kitchens. If you like simple and farm style food, then this is your book.

Thank you Netgalley for this opportunity to view this cookbook for a fair and honest review!

I have several of Wanda's Amish cookbooks and I love them. This one includes gardening tips and tricks, some of which I might try. I don't know about dipping my plant leaves in kerosene, however, as I am more of an orgo type gardener. I like the ant block and some of the other tips, for sure. I will try the tomato blight spray, as I seem to have a problem with that in my garden quite often.
As for the recipes, the pictures look absolutely gorgeous and appetizing. I am anxious to start trying quite a few of these for my own family. I love how each Amish contributor's name is given.
The recipes really do deal with your garden's harvest and the crops that you would commonly grow. It will add some great variety to anyone's meals. The Strawberry Cream Cake Roll looks delicious.
I can't wait to try them.
I received an ebook copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest review.

I am not usually a reader of this type of book - however - our area has a large Mennonite community and I thought this might be of interest to them.
Boy was I surprised!! I love this book. The old time ways of storing and preserving along with some really original recipes and canning advice make this not only a great cookbook - but also a great gift. I know several people on my list that will be receiving this!!

As much as I wish I could have, I was unable to obtain a copy of this book,, It was not available for my Kindle. :(

Love the way this book is indexed! Lots of good information to get back to earth in planting, cooking, canning, etc. Basic, simple guidelines to follow is very helpful. Great addition to a library.

A wonderful Amish cookbook by Wanda Brunstetter. The recipes sound delicious and I can't wait to try some of them.
To me, the best part of the book was the chapter titled, Advice from Amish Gardeners, where tips are shared for gardening. There were tips for planting, dealing with bugs and diseases in the garden, and uses of natural products for various gardening ailments, such as poison ivy and sunburn. Canning tips are also included in the book. All of the book is accompanied by beautiful photography of plants and the completed recipes.
This is definitely a cookbook you will want to add to your library.
I received a copy of this from Barbour Publishers for my unbiased opinion.

Wanda E. Brunstetter's Amish Friends Harvest Cookbook by Wanda E. Brunstetter is a great cookbook that has wonderful recipes for everyone to enjoy. I enjoyed reading the advice from Amish gardeners. They gave tips that are useful and I hope to use on my garden. Mrs. Brunsteter has sectioned her book off into eight categories. The categories are Salads, Soups, Main Dishes, Sides, Desserts, Snacks and Extras, and preserving the Harvest.
The Index of Recipes and Key Ingredients is a nice addition, which makes it easy to find a specific recipe. The pictures are high quality and beautiful. There are pictures of Amish farming and of some recipes. The recipes chosen use ingredients that can be found easily or are already in the kitchen. The recipes sound delicious and I cannot wait to try some of them for my family.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

I fell in love with this cookbook as soon as I started going through it! It starts out with some stories, advise on planting, weeding, managing bugs in the garden and goes on to so much more. The recipes are wonderful and the photography in this book is gorgeous! There are chapters for salads, soups, main dishes, sides, deserts, snacks/extras, canning/preserving and even recipes for the freezer.
I have a list of recipes I want to try and so I'll list a few of them here ~ Pumpkin cookies, Harvest Loaf, Bundt Zucchini Cake,
Canning ~ Apple Pie Filling, Canning ~ Old Fashioned Apple Butter ... don't they all sound delicious? Ms. Brunstetter's Amish Friends Harvest Cookbook is a treasure trove of recipes!
Thank you to Shilo Press, Barbour Publishing and Netgalley for the free gift of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Never again will you find more delicious ways to cook, prepare, and preserve the vegetables, meats, fruits, herbs, pasta, and even weeds than in this cookbook. Scripture verses are interspersed throughout the recipe book. There is a section on how to use weeds, yes, weeds...for cooking, medicinal purposes, and more! There is a section on planting according to the signs of nature. There is a large section on how to make your own natural fertilizers, insect repellants, and more. And of course, there are many delicious recipes included in this lovely cookbook. Richard Brunstetter's exceptional photography skills are showcased as he provided many of his photographs to illustrate his wife's collection. In addition to recipes, there is a section on home canning, freezing, and jams, jelly and pickle making. Readers are cautioned in this section to know what they are doing and encouraged to take a course if they are unfamiliar with home canning and/or home canning equipment. They are also cautioned that the Amish recipes are not always USDA approved and recommendations are given to avoid possible food poisoning.
This is a beautiful book with a sturdy cover and spiral binding. The photographs contained in the book depict some of the Amish gardeners and gardens readers are enthralled with as well as over 240 recipes. The recipes will have you drooling and heading to the kitchen to gather ingredients to get started. There are recipes for Jackson salad, Summer Garden Chili, Frogmore Stew, Pickled Eggs and Red Beets, Peach Bavarian Mold, Bundt Zucchini Cake, Fried Blossoms, Stuffed Jalapeno Peppers, Ginger Ale, Canned Cantaloupe, Hot Garlic Dill Pickles, Onion Relish, and Frozen Popcorn and Slush among many others. Wanda's Amish friends have shared their tried and true recipes with us and the love they include in each recipe is felt on every page.
I rated this book 5 stars and give it the highest of recommendations.
I received a copy of this book from netgalley and the author in exchange for my honest review.

Review: Wanda E. Brunstetter’s Amish Friends Harvest Cookbook is part of the Amish Friends Cookbook Series. I already owned and really like the Amish Friends Cookbook and Amish Friends Cookbook Vol 2. I was excited to start reading through the Wanda E. Brunstetter’s Amish Friends Harvest Cookbook.
When fruits and vegetables are in season the Amish, like all farmers, get to work and start harvesting the crops to can, freeze, or use for meals. Wanda E. Brunstetter’s Amish Friends Harvest Cookbook is packed with over 240 recipes that make use of those fresh fruits and vegetables. It has nice, colorful photos every two or three pages. There are recipes for salads, soups, main dishes, sides, desserts, snacks and extras. A longer chapter is dedicated to recipes for canning. Advice from Amish gardeners offers interesting ideas to produce a good harvest, some tips I have heard but many I haven’t. I made Summer Garden Chili and Country Pumpkin Muffins from this cookbook. I didn’t have kidney beans so I substituted pinto beans in the chili. The muffins were very moist. I think next time I will make only 12 muffins instead of 24 because I like bigger muffins. Overall, they both turned out delicious.
I prefer to make simple recipes with ingredients that are readily available. which is why I enjoy this cookbook. I do not think someone has to grow their own fruits and vegetables to like or use this cookbook. I recommend Wanda E. Brunstetter’s Amish Friends Harvest Cookbook for anyone looking for tasty, easy to make recipes.
