Description

The perfect spicy Sapphic romance for fans of Pirates of the Caribbean and Lex Croucher!

Captain Nina Leroux is having a terrible week.

  • Her pirate ship has been repossessed (she'll steal it back, though)
  • Her temporary crewmate, Aerwyn, is useless (but really hot)
  • And she’s also on the run from another pirate.

Getting into a crewmates-with-benefits situation with Aerwyn seems like the perfect distraction from all the above. Nina doesn’t do feelings, so having a set endpoint to their relationship – when they drop Aerwyn off at her destination – seems perfect.

But their agreement might leave Nina with more than she’d bargained for: attachment to someone who will inevitably leave. Aerwyn is mysterious as she is beautiful, and Nina finds herself falling for her, hook, line, and sinker.

Will Nina be able to keep her crew safe from swashbuckling marauders, and, just as importantly, keep her heart safe from Aerwyn?

I had such a fun time with Swashbuckle! I’m always a sucker for a romance with a fun and slightly chaotic premise, and the pirate setting made this such an entertaining read. Nina is such a fun character to follow, especially with everything going wrong for her at once, from losing her ship to being on the run while also having to deal with a very mysterious new crewmate.

I really liked Nina and Aerwyn together. Their dynamic had that perfect mix of tension, banter and uncertainty, especially because Nina is so determined not to catch feelings. I loved watching that slowly start to change as she gets to know Aerwyn more. Aerwyn being so mysterious also made me constantly want to know more about her and what she was hiding.

The pirate setting was probably one of my favourite parts of the book. It gave the romance something different and made the whole story feel really fun and adventurous without losing the emotional side of the relationship. I also really enjoyed the crew and the feeling of everyone being thrown into this chaotic situation together.

Overall, Swashbuckle was such a fun sapphic fantasy romance. It has pirates, adventure, a slow-building relationship, plenty of tension and a heroine who is very much trying to convince herself she doesn't have feelings when she very clearly does. Definitely a book I’d recommend if you’re looking for something light, romantic and a little different!

I really enjoyed the idea of this book, it had that overall concept that I was expecting and enjoyed the pirate element of this. It uses the romance concept in a way that worked overall and thought the characters were so well written and I cared about what was happening with them. It was the right amount of romance and pirate element and was glad I was able to read this. Agatha Willow wrote this perfectly and was glad I was able to read this.

Well this turned out to be quite a fun read!! Loved the pirate theme!!

Nina was a great character. The banter was brilliant!! The tension between Nina and Aerwyn was just the right amount to keep my interest and not affect the plot.

I do think I’ve found a new appreciation for mangoes too.

Thank you to the publishers, Avon Books UK, the author, Agatha Willow and NetGalley UK for allowing me to receive an advanced copy.

4.5 ⭐️

I had such a fun time with Swashbuckle! Give me pirates, adventure, and a sapphic romance and apparently I am VERY easy to please.
The pirate setting was easily one of my favorite parts. I loved getting swept up in this world and the fact that it’s sapphic made it even better. I loved watching the romance develop alongside everything else happening in the story rather than feeling like the adventure was simply background decoration.
This was just genuinely fantastic to read. Romantic, adventurous, delightfully queer, and full of pirate goodness. I flew through it and had a great time doing so.

Imagine Jack Sparrow as a dirtbag lesbian captain, throw in some sea based mythology that is both fun and slightly ridiculous at time (golden dildo, anyone?), and some fun pirate shenanigans, and you have this book. There are times that you might feel like you're reading a gender swapped Pirates of the Caribbean fanfic, and there are times when some more contemporary styles of banter kind of interrupts the narrative flow, but otherwise, this is a pretty fun read.

Nina and Aerwyn were spectacular together! I absolutely loved this sapphic pirate romance. I’ve never read anything like it. It was funny and adventuresome and swoony. You’re in for a good time with this one.

This is not the type of romance that I typically read, but I was intrigued by the description and the overall pirate theme. I am very happy that I choose to read this intriguing book by Agatha Willow. It delivered on all accounts including life aboard a pirate ship, battles, raids, a leviathan, sirens, and a spicy relationship between captain Nina LeRoux and crewmate, Aerwyn, that turns into love. The author alsp injected routine humor into the scenes with my favorite being the mango raid on a noble person's property. The book also contained some lessons about family, in particular Aerwyn's family as well as found family like "the boy" later named Reginald and the parrott. Overall, this was a very satisfying book that I would recommend to others. 4.25 stars
