Description

Major Brooke Grant must track down the double agent who is infiltrating the U.S. government in this international thriller from influential politician Newt Gingrich and Pulitzer Prize finalist Pete Earley.

Brooke Grant has been waging war against terrorism since her parents were murdered during 9/11, keenly aware that violence transcends borders. But after a coordinated attack on the president at a Washington power broker's funeral, she realizes that the enemy is closer than she'd ever imagined, hiding in plain sight. The Falcon has gained a weapon no terrorist has ever wielded before: an American-born traitor burrowed inside the U.S. government itself.

Major Grant's deadly chess match with the Falcon turns personal when he issues a fatwa against her and those she loves. Can she unmask the traitor and stop the Falcon's most skilled assassin sent to kill her before he strikes? Or will she fall victim to betrayal by a false friend in this gripping story of treachery, courage, and the patriotic fight against evil?

In this realistic tale of modern-day treason, a nation fights for its life against an internal threat: a fanatical jihadist who uses liberty as a shield while trying to destroy the civilization created in its image. With decades of knowledge in national security and politics, only Newt Gingrich and Pete Earley could spin such a vivid mix of reality and fiction -- a page-turner that dares readers to guess where the line between the two is crossed.

A good Tom Clancy style conspiracy yarn and given the author upto date with the various factions involved. The action is pretty much helterskelter all the way and thoroughly entertaining with the ending leaving the way clear for the yarn to continue. Look forward to it!

The team of Newt Gingrich and Pete Earley bring out a sequel to their novel "Duplicity" published early in 2016. The two principal protagonists: Major Brooke Grant who has been at war with Islamic terrorism since her parents were killed on 9/11 and Sergeant Walks Many Miles. The two began a love affair when they were together as active duty Marines overseas. "Treason" opens with two occurrences. Walks Many Miles, who is a full blooded American Indian has resigned from the Marines since Major Grant cannot openly have an affair with an enlisted man. The second is when a coordinated attack is launched against the U.S. president attending a funeral in Washington. Brooke quickly realizes that Islamic Terrorism is closer than thought and is implanted in the United States and under command these terrorists are willing to die in order to kill Americans.
The mastermind of the terrorists is the "Falcon" met previously in "Duplicity", and it is discovered that he has a mole near the top of the U.S. government keeping him informed of the plans against him.
While the book is fast and very interesting reading it can also be looked upon as a political statement as have many other books down through history. The authors charge that the precepts of "Political Correctness" and "no profiling" are major obstacles in taking action against the terrorists. They point out that while all Muslims are not terrorists those that want to live in peace with America are browbeaten by others. The Koran, their holy book is filled with admonitions to force their beliefs upon the infidel and do anything to bring Sharia law and the Muslim faith to the entire world. The FBI is no longer able to spy upon Mosques throughout the U.S. and unfortunately that has taken away a powerful weapon in the fight against Islamic Terrorism.
The type of book devoted to exposing certain political faults has usually met with opposition when written and published. See one the earliest ones: Gulliver's Travels published in the 1700s to bring out many of the faults of English society of the day. Mr Gingrich is a Republican, and a well known and respected figure on the national scene. He has authored various novels in the past; all enjoyable utilizing his insights into the subjects and periods described. "Treason" is a well done and thought provoking look at the fight against Islamic Terrorism.

A Review

Some books I look forward to reading. Others I figure I will give a try, but do not expect much. And there are some that I choose to review, but really expected to be disappointed. This was one of those. I was wrong.

The second book of a series coming from these authors, the book stood relatively well as a stand alone novel. The few parts dependent on the earlier book were written into the text not leaving the author in the dust.

Beginning with an attempted (actually two attempts) assassination of the US President, Major Brook Grant is drawn into a treasonous attempt to take down the American government. The evidence mounts up in the hallways of Congress, in the Washington DC metropolitan area, and in the dry heat of the Middle East. Neither the protagonists or their families are safe from the deadly plans of the Falcon, the moniker of terrorist associated with the Islamic State.

The book if a political lesson in how different Americans view the Islamic threats seen around the world. Characters in the book represent several of the view expressed in the daily news - some totally committed to keeping Islam and its terrorist leanings from American soil, some committed to the freedom of speech that allows this same terrorism to co-exist in the American culture, and others who understand that freedom mean letting those we disagree with live in peace within the same space we occupy. Answers are not provided, but the book does provide a door to communication.

Surprisingly, though the book is not an open Christian book, I would think it could easily be found on the book lists of some major Christian publishers. Faith plays a positive role in the lives of characters as they develop throughout the story. Thus, the Christian reader may find themselves satisfied with the story as it continues to develop in the next book of the series - drawing in the political power of a deadly North Korean government.

My only disappointment in the book was the occasional writing style which at times seemed more like a seventh grader’s writing using short, staccato like sentences. The author moved in and out of this mode and did not leave this reader feeling too disappointed, though this writing style showed itself two or three times early in the book.

For the reader looking for a political thriller, a terroristic drama, or good solid summer read, TREASON may just be what the doctor ordered.

In the book Treason, author and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich takes us on a journey of homegrown radical Islamic jihadists attacking America and how would we respond. While this is a work a fiction, the competing governmental responses of targeting a religion and allowing complete religious freedom, are real. Gingrich raises some good thoughts on how much of our freedoms are we willing to lose in the name of security and how much will we as the American people allow the government to control religion. And oh, yeah, there is a terrorist in the government, high up. And maybe more than one?
I would highly recommend this book. It is a fast pace read with many twists and turns. I received a copy of this e-book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Loved it! This is a fast paced political/espionage thriller that had me flipping pages just as quickly as possible. I read this book the week of the Orlando massacre and it was chilling reading about jihad while also watching it play out on the news. This is a sobering topic and the author has used his considerable political experience to weave a chilling tale while also making it easy to understand. While a difficult subject, this is a compelling novel that fans of the genre will love.

This is book two in the Duplicity series and picks up where book one ended, however it is a stand alone novel. It's so good, though, that you really owe to yourself to read them both. The author is on my must read authors' list.

I enjoyed Mr. Gingrich's last thriller, "Duplicity" and was looking forward to the sequel. "Treason" does not disappoint as it is packed with non-stop action and is a rollicking good read.

The story is packed with insider knowledge without becoming too technical and is totally plot-driven.

The characters are credible and well-developed and we can easily identify with them.

The story is all too plausible and the book totally delivers.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this novel having only read Speaker Gingrich's non-fiction books on public policy. TREASON is a gripping thriller, made even more realistic by the author's inside knowledge of the ways of Washington and the global threats that face America.

Riveting & Compelling novel by Newt and Pete Early!!!!

The terrorist has brought their game to our turf and no one is safe. And they have help from the inside. If you like political thrillers I would Treason a read. I enjoyed to twist and turns with the little clues left for the reader to piece together.

Newt & Pete wove a masterful tale with a thrilling conclusion. Will there be a second novel, I sure hope so. The novel provides hours of enjoyable reading, that built suspense throughout that kept me turning the pages.

A very timely, fast-paced thriller highlighting the fight with radical Islam, and how political correctness is destroying America. I had not read the first book, but had no problem following this one at all. Great plot, great action, excellent characters. Not quite as polished and deep as, say, a le Carre novel. Dialogue is at times a little stilted. But my, oh my, this is a great story! Newt Gingrich deftly weaves his political expertise and nuance with a story that could play out in real life today- and I learned a few things along the way. I'm sure this series will only get better and better! Many thanks to NetGalley and Faith Words/Center Street for allowing me to read this exciting political thriller. Solid 4 stars!

[author:Newt Gingrich] and his less prominently displayed co-author, [author: Pete Earley], do a lot things right with this exciting novel in the genre of thrillers involving politics and international terrorism. I like the fact that a lot of things go bad for the good guys along the way (an evil mole highly placed in the US government makes sure of that), and that it takes time to figure out what will happen.
What I don't like about the book is that seasoned readers of the genre will guess fairly early on who is working on the inside along with the terrorists, which makes the protagonists seem a little dimwitted.
The prose of the book is working well for me - not too high-brow and not too primitive either. Like some of the masters of this genre (e.g. the late [author:Vince Flynn] and [Brad Thor], Gingrich avoids spending too much time on politics (which he knows super well), which risks boring some readers but in reasonable amounts gives good background and depth to the plot, and he also avoids dwelling on operational and weapon aspects in the sections where that is important, because that also loses other readers ([author:Brad Taylor] unfortunately falls into that trap in some of his books, but maybe parts of his readers appreciate that).
Summing up, I was well entertained reading the book, but the plot is somewhat predictable quite early on, and that costs a couple of stars in my rating book.

TREASON: A Novel by Newt Gingrich and Pete Earley is where politicians are knee-deep in after election turmoil even as an international plot hatches in government offices!

Blood spills and problems come alive, but in DC, it is all about the quick turn of news cycles and the never-ending political careers moving up toward the next level.

The Falcon’s talons reach the upper most part of the USA. We tackle one inferno while another blaze is smoldering reminding us that within friends, you will find an enemy. Moreover, in the privacy that can be government, you may discover that sometimes treason is without a reason.

Washington is a target, but on the inside, you won’t know whom to trust as Falcon is in charge from within into other lands. From FBI, CIA, to outside government leaders, each will play a role. There seem to be more bad actors than good ones as plots multiply and your guesses never end as each target roams.

How deep does this go? Where will it stop?

One single target changes to many and the reasons multiply as living game pieces tread around an invisible board. When help does not arrive but messages give a clear signal, there is only one explanation. This deadly game will keep on going as long as the Falcon has help!

It’s deadly. It’s treason. This fictional international political thriller will keep you turning pages even as you do not agree with author views and/or sentiments.

***This opinion is my own.***

Gripping, dangerously gripping , and high octane charged is this book. Mr. Gingrich is one amazing writer. I have never seen such an intense book, as of late, like this one. He has a sure fire hit on his hands. There is a threat to our home - these great United States - a home grown Terrorist - and he is after Major Brooke Grant and the charge she is looking after. She is to thwart the Fatwa that has been put out against her and hers by the Falcon, who by the way is someone inside the White House - oh yeah...that's what I said ya'll inside the White House we have a terrorist. so what happens next - you tell me. Who dies? Who lives? What happens to the bomb? The great big massive humongous bomb? Where is the bomb? oh wouldn't you like to know? What happens to Falcon - does he get caught or does he live to see another day? all these and a million and one other questions answers can be found in this highly intense, crazily fast book. Congratulations Mr. Gingrich you have a sure fire hit on your hands - one with a bullet.
