The Gilded Cage

Author Sherry Ficklin has proven with this story that she can totally knock anything that she writes out of the park!!! She is an amazing writer and she rocks this genre just as well as any that she has written so far!! This was a novella, but it packed the punch of a full length story!!! Masie is an amazing character that proves she has just as much moxie as any of her father's enforcers! After spending time away from the world that her father, Dutch, has created she is thrown back into it and into a ton of lies that she can't share with anyone, not even her closest "friend", Vinny. Masie in an attempt to help her father stepped up to sing at this club and that seals her fate....a fate that she isn't sure that she wants, but is now stuck with....I can't wait to see what happens next!! Hurry up book 2!!!

The 1920's, prohibition, flappers - "Gilded Cage" takes the reader back in time and it's amazing. I really like Masie and can't wait to find out more about her life. For being a short novella it happens a lot in this book. Love, loss, a criminal father. Masie's life is not easy, but she is a tough girl and not one to back down. I hope she will make it in the dark world her father has build and maybe she can find a way to be with Vinny, against all odds.

This book packed a lot of emotions into a small amount of pages. Masie returns home from boarding school to family drama and violence. Her father is a prick, her mother is mentally unstable, her brother is quickly becoming more involved in the family business, and the boy she loves has changed in some very bad ways. Their love is forbidden, and when I say forbidden I mean her dad would break Vinny's legs, among other body parts, if he knew. Masie is caught between loving her family, but hating their lifestyle. Loving Vinny, but fearing whats he's become. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
