Description
250,000 readers so far. The No. 1 Bestseller from Germany - now in English. A feature film is scheduled to arrive in theaters at the end of 2018. The book is based on a true story!
Jessica has an uncomplicated life and a promising future. Leaving the house one evening, she has no idea that she’s about to meet the love of her life - and that her entire understanding of the world is about to change. Before long, she’s going to face a decision that will shape her forever ...
A story of deep love. A story of trust, courage, pain, despair, and the strength to let go. A true story.
---Abstract
From the moment she crosses paths with Danny, Jessica is fascinated. The
dashing, confident twenty-year-old has everything she dreams of - looks,
success, independence, money - and his kind, infinitely cheerful nature is
spellbinding.
Yet Jessica sees something else lingering underneath Danny’s perfect
facade. Bit by bit, she manages to pick it apart, unveiling harrowing
truths about a deeply traumatic childhood that has left more than just
emotional scars. Now, far away from his home and family, he is fighting
to build a normal life for himself - even though he may be destined for a
future as dark as his past.
Despite all adversity and against all reason, a deep and intimate love
develops between Danny and Jessica. But soon they find themselves
confronting the harsh realities of a superficial world, battling against
prejudice and exclusion at every turn… and, worst of all, racing
against time…

"Five out of five stars. (...) stories like this NEED to be shared. Not want, NEED. We need more stories like this around, because this world's big and scary, but stories like this show the true humanity. Oh boy, I'm just a mess writing this."
"This beautiful yet heartbreaking true story has left me speechless(...). For those who love novels written by Nicholas Sparks, Jojo Moyes, and Jodi Picoult: I highly encourage you to give this book a chance."
Jessica Koch´s dramatic debut novel, Dem Horizont so nah (So Near the Horizon),
broke every record when it hit stores in Germany. Released in 2016
through a small, independent publishing house, the e-book was an instant

riveting and highly emotional memoir. The foreign rights have been
picked up in numerous countries, and the feature film is scheduled to

Ugly crying occurred during the reading of this book. Full blown ugly crying. I can't ever begin to review this book - I would feel like I was criticizing someone's life. I think I would go against everything Danny stood for by knit picking or judging. Suffice it to say...this book broke my heart. It shook me to my core. I'm glad Jessica wrote this. I'm glad I read it - heartbroken, but glad.
Beautifully written storyline that just captured my attention from the very first page! The characters are so well fleshed out that as I turned each page I was being pulled deeper and deeper in as the story unfolded effortlessly between Jessica and Danny! This is a story that stays with you long after the last page is turned!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
I really loved this book. A very intense, powerful novel based on a true life story. Several dark topics are covered including rape, suicide, drug use, hate, and abuse. Some parts were hard to read but made the book more amazing and so much better because the main characters really experienced these things. It made me cry and laugh and feel so much for all of them. The journey that Danny and Jessica were on together was bittersweet and the way the grew stronger together made me cry. The unfair harsh sadness of reality culminating in the end being so sad beyond belief. I am sure, however, that Jessica's memory of Danny will live on forever. An incredibly beautiful story.
