Description

Counter the lies that keep you from abundant living.

Satan is the master deceiver; his lies are endless. And the lies Christian women believe are at the root of most of their struggles.

"Many women live under a cloud of personal guilt and condemnation," says Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth. "Many are in bondage to their past. Others are gripped by fear of rejection and a longing for approval. Still others are emotional prisoners."

In this bestseller, Lies Women Believe, Nancy exposes those areas of deception most commonly believed by Christian women—lies about God, sin, priorities, marriage and family, emotions, and more. She then sheds light on how we can be delivered from bondage and set free to walk in God's grace, forgiveness, and abundant life. Nancy offers the most effective weapon to counter and overcome Satan's deceptions: God's truth!

I have listened to Nancy's interviews on Revive Your Heart for awhile, and have been curious to read one of her books. For those who are non-religious, have liberal viewpoints, or feminist viewpoints; this book probably isn't for you. I can see how someone would get offended by the content, especially given that Nancy is newly married and has no children. However, I was not offended by her words. I think some were hard to hear and gave me conviction to change some things. Some "Lies" I liked: There is not enough time to do everything and there are certain sins I cannot defeat. Nancy counteracts with these with biblical truth. I would recommend this to my Christian friends.

Lies may seem harmless initially, but it sows seeds of discord, distrust, and disappointment. Going all the way back to the first sin of creation, we learn how Satan deceived Eve first, then Adam, and the whole world went spiraling downhill ever since. Deception is the #1 weapon utilized by the evil one. Once planted in our minds, we dwell on the temptation. This leads to us believing the lie. Finally, when we act on the lie, the deception is complete. The book addresses a total of 45 lies that fall into 9 areas of our lives, including lies about God, ourselves, sin, priorities, sexuality, marriage, children, emotions, and circumstances. Each of the 45 lies mentioned are described, gradually disputed, and firmly countered with biblical truths and principles.

This book is so life changing. We believe so many lies and it is refreshing to hear that we were always meant to live free! I recommend this book to all women. Some lies are so subtle that we believe. This book was very eye-opening. I love that Nance counters each lie with truth from God’s Word.

I received this book free from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions I have expressed are my own. Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth is a new author for me. I've worked through some of her Bible study for this book, so I decided to get the book to really get the full benefits of the study. This book is phenomenal! It's comprised of 12 chapters, 3 sections and 9 lies. I personally love how this book is broken down. Section 1 includes an introductory chapter which is the foundation. Section 2 is titled lies women believe with 9 chapters focused on several different lies about God, themselves, sin, priorities, sexuality, marriage, children, emotions and circumstances. Each chapter (or lie) goes deep into the lies we tell ourselves concerning those topics.

I love how much scripture is referenced in this book to counteract the lies we believe or have been told about ourselves. Nancy has done a phenomenal job at keeping this book realistic, authentic and relate-able all while keeping the Word of God central. I love how at the end of each chapter you get an overview in chart form of the lies we've been told or believed with the truths from the Bible. This is a biblically sound book that I think is perfect for both personal reading as well as in a book club setting. Now I see why the book is needed for the Bible study. Just simply phenomenal and I highly recommend it!

I did not agree with everything this book said. This book was not what I expected based on the description. I think the author reinforced some of the lies women believe instead of exposing them.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book courtesy of NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Lies Women Believe is not a condemnation of today's women, but a call to examine our lives in light of what God says. By shining the light of the word of God on some common thought patterns, Nancy shows us how we become entangled in sin through lies. We are encouraged to dwell on truth from God's word and by the power of God's spirit live in accordance with the truth. I especially appreciated the examples of how the truths were applied by different women in real life.

This updated version of Lies women believe contains numerous sections on different aspects of life and challenges common Lies women tell themselves and the truths of the Bible to counteract them. While it is written from a relatively conservative point of view it is helpful to challenge and make you aware of mindsets we can unconsciously adopt and encouraging us to think through things. Overall it was a good read which took time as it covered many areas. Helpful verses given for each area to remember. Many thanks to Netgalley and Moody Publishers for the arc.
