The book contains a summary of her characters from the series, as well as baking tips and tricks, a bit about Amish culture, and history. All of that enhances the traditional (and some not-so-traditional) Amish recipes included. It is divided into sections (breakfast, dinner, snacks, etc) to make it easy to use, and all of the recipes call for easy to find ingredients. It would appear, based on the credits, that these recipes came from actual Amish homes and were submitted for inclusion in the book, which would lend it even more authenticity. One star removed because the e-book format was extremely difficult to read due to formatting issues. (kindle)

I live in the heart of Indiana Amish country and I know that if I want delicious, home cooked food the best place to find it is in an Amish kitchen. However, loving their food and knowing how to prepare authentic Amish recipes are two very different things. That is why I was thrilled to find the Amish Cooking Class Cookbook by Wanda E. Brunstetter. Not only are there recipes for scrumptious dishes, there are easy to follow directions as well.

The Amish Cooking Class Cookbook is based on actual cooking classes conducted by Brunstetter. In the opening pages you are introduced to class participants and throughout the book you read about their favorite dishes and their experiences in the kitchen. In addition, Brunstetter includes helpful information regarding every day cooking such as the proper or easiest way to boil eggs and potatoes. While that sounds simple, just think of how many rubberized eggs you've eaten in your lifetime! She also describes the Amish kitchen, lifestyle, chores and more - all of which added to the interest of the book and made it more enjoyable than a simple cookbook.

There are over 200 recipes from snacks to breads - my favorite section - to casseroles and marvelous main dishes. I would have purchased this for the breads alone but, you know...we cannot live on bread alone. Whether you are new to cooking, single and need ideas or, like me, just love good food, you will relish the instruction, recipes and stories found in the Amish Cooking Class Cookbook.

(So much gratitude to Netgalley, Barbour Publishing, Inc., and Shiloh Run Press for this mouth-watering book.)

Note: will publish review closer to actual publication date.

An interesting cookbook format. If you have read her stories you will see the characters mentioned, along with their favorite meals. The author also gives tips and advice on substitutes and ideas on how to do shortcuts and improvements on box mixes. It is also interesting to read about the Amish women and their kitchens. I had assumptions, that were not true. Just because they do not have electricity does not mean they do not have a fridge for example. Never thought about propane for anything but heat. Tried a few recipes, including the buns. Tasty! Fun book, would highly recommend this cookbook.

Amish Cooking Class Cookbook Over 200 practical Recipes for Use in any Kitchen by Wanda E. Brunstetter, an authority and one of the founder of Amish novels and literature, will be published on February 1 2018.

This book wants to be the sum of The Amish Cooking Class series of novels written by ms Brunstetter.
There is a lot to learn about Amish baking and cooking.
Personally I focused my attention on some recipes discovering for example an interesting novelty: for what I can see Amish people love to bake and cook differently from traditional American recipes adding oil and not butter in most recipes I know where butter is used the most.

The Amish don't live with our commodities and they decided to continue to breath the atmosphere we lived before the arrival of newest tools for simplifying our life, but not only: they refuse the use of cars, tractors, of every kind of novelty and their clock is interrupted in a timeless moment.

These women work hardly and a lot of chores wait them outside and inside the house because these families of Amish have all a farm.
They love to cook and bake with joy and dedication. Robust breakfasts, good cakes, delicious treats, at the beginning of the book some tips and advice for every cook.

Each section will be a great discovery I can tell you that.
I found delicious in the Bread section the famous Amish Friendship Bread and the Amish Cinnamon Rolls. The first recipe can be the base for more dishes.
In the cake section a great Strawberry Shortcake, but if you want to make happy your children why not to try the candy caramel?
Bars and Cookies will reveal a wonderful recipe for sweet chocolate cookies, a bit different from the most common one we know.
I noticed that Amish recipes are more "abundant" in terms of quantity of ingredients for a richest result and more available food.
A lot of pies for all tastes, Puddings section starts introducing us banana pudding. Latest sections are about Icing, Creams, and Sweet Sauces and Amish Canning.

I highly suggest you this yummy cookbook!

I thank NetGalley and Barbour for this eBook!

My goodness this had a lot of information I never knew about! I like the advice on storing veggies, making a box cake taste home made, making powdered sugar, and other fun ideas! Also loved the recipe for bone broths. I enjoy making my own soups. Also the non-alcoholic Orange Julius was a surprise- I love the drink, but not the alcohol so much...The bread recipes look tasty and I can't wait to try a few, particularly the Amish Cinnamon Bread! The canning section was intriguing... I'm leery of home canning and not doing it by the USDA guidelines I find worrisome. But if it works for the Amish more power to them. I can attest to the goodness of their many baked goods, however! I am looking forward to trying a few! Nice addition to a cookbook collection in a working kitchen!
I received a free Kindle copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for a fair review.

Oh my goodness, I think this may just be my new favorite cookbook! I fell in love with the characters in Wanda Brunstetter's Amish Cooking Class series so it is such a sweet treat to be able to recreate their favorite recipes. The cooking and household tips from the characters and those used in Amish homes are new and just plain awesome. I really love the tip to soak pasta previous to cooking. I've never heard that one! It is plumb delicious to get to sneak a peek inside the Amish kitchen to glean from their expertise in cooking. Bible verses are interspersed throughout the cookbook.

Many of the favorite Amish dishes are in the cookbook including Amish friendship bread including directions for making and storing the starter. I can't wait to get to cooking.

I am delighted to give this cookbook a 5 star rating.

I received an ebook of this cookbook from netgalley and Shiloh Run Press in exchange for my honest review.

This book wasn’t what I thought it would be. That’s not a bad thing. It just took me by surprise. See, I haven’t read any of author Wanda E. Brustetter’s books. I simply thought this to be an Amish cookbook. However, it is based on Ms. Brustetter’s Amish Cooking Class novels. Fiction. So this book is a product of the many recipes shared in her three book series. (And if you like Amish fiction, I suggest you look the author up. She has written so many books!).

The chapters include The Amish Kitchen . . . Bread and Rolls, Mornings . . . Breakfast Foods, Sweets . . . Desserts, Canning . . . Spread and Pickles, Gatherings and Events . . . Main Dishes, Slow and Steady Wins the Race . . . Soups, Skill Sharing . . . Miscellaneous, Gardens . . . Salads and Sliders, General Store . . . Snacks, Dips, and Spices, Children in the Kitchen . . . Recipes for Children.

Following the chapter index the author explains her Cooking Class series, and introduces the characters. The book then goes into handy tips like making a Tender Roast Beef, Keeping Potatoes White, DIY Buttermilk, and many others.

Lovely photos, and verses of scripture accompany easy to follow recipes. Many of which I look forward to trying in my kitchen soon. Delicious sounding offering such as . . . Almond Milk, Root Beer, Country Breakfast, Angel Biscuits, Johnnycakes, Amish Country Breakfast, Blueberry Pancake Pizza, Butternut Squash Brownies, Lazy Daisy Cake, Cashew Brittle, Divinity, Coconut Love Bars, Cream Cheese Maple Frosting . . .

Sadly, since this was a preview of the book, I can’t share any of savory/main courses with you, because they weren’t in my preview.

All in all, I did enjoy the AMISH COOKING CLASS COOKBOOK. If you’re a fan of Amish culture, and/or simple cooking, I think you’ll really enjoy it too.

This book is a great companion to the Amish Cooking Class series. If you haven't read the books, Wanda has a very nice section where she introduces each of the characters and tells a little bit about them and what their favorite foods are.
The book then goes to explain Amish cooking and what is in the kitchen. The recipes come next and they are varied and easy to make. She will also include the Cooking Class meals! The sections go through breakfast to dessert. The ebook only covered breakfast and dessert recipes. There are many other topics highlighted, Wanda thought of everything!
I plan to purchase a book copy (when it is available) for my own use. I don't normally collect cookbooks, but this one I love! It is one I am sure I will put to good use!

From beverages and breads to main dishes, lovers of delicous food will find several recipes to try out. Highly recommended!

I was eagerly awaiting notice of being granted permission to review this book and I was excited to receive it. I don't know the author, so the characters from her other books were unknown, but I loved how she tied everything in. The book, is like a master class on amish cooking, from beverages, breakfast, lunch dishes and desserts. From my extended preview there are a couple of things I want to try making the dinner rolls and the sourdough. AND SO MANY PIES!!! I was given an extended preview and I will be preordering the book ASAP.

Loved this cookbook! I received a digital advanced preview copy from the publisher and Netgalley for review. The recipes included are great and easy to follow, with lots of different types of recipes for every occasion. I loved how each section began with information about the Amish and tips for cooking. The pictures included were nice as well. I will definitely be ordering a physical copy of this cookbook for my kitchen!

The pictures in this book are exceptional. I have Wanda’s other cookbook and this one exceeds that by miles. Love how the book is tied to the cooking class series. There’s some back info from the books included in this book connecting it even more! There is a lot of basic cooking info for the beginning cook (which I think is appropriate seeing as the book is connected to the novels). The recipes are easy to follow, well laid out on the page, and delicious! I’ve tries quite a few recipes and have loved them all. There is quite a wide variety of recipes and definitely something for everyone.

This Amish book, surprised me and exceeded my expectations! Usually, Amish cookbooks, are just recipes (and while most are good recipes) there is usually no pictures of the end product. Not so in this Amish cookbook, which is what sets it apart from some of the others. This one has quite a few pictures, beautifully photographed!! While not every recipe has a photo, for an Amish cookbook, this one is loaded with pictures and makes it an absolute delight to cook out of!! Thank you!! An Amish cookbook to be passed from generation to generation. I highly recommend this book!

If you've ever had Amish food before, you know they make simple, honest fare that is as comforting as it is delicious. It's hard to learn how to make that food without growing up in that kind of household, with a mother at the stove every day and a home-cooked family dinner every night. It's therefore easy to see why the idea of an Amish cooking class is so appealing.

The sample I received covered Drinks, Breads, Breakfast, Cakes and Brownies, Candies, Bars and Cookies, Pies, Puddings, and various other sweets (honestly, all the best parts of a meal as far as I'm concerned!). I was thrilled to see a recipe for Amish Friendship Bread, a sweet cinnamony bread with a sourdough starter that is passed down from one Amish wife to another. You'll also find recipes for such Amish classics as fry pies, shoofly pie, baked oatmeal, and hootenanny bread. In addition, there are just some good ol' fashioned down-home recipes in here as well, such as divinity, chocolate chip cookies, sausage gravy, and bread custard pudding. Delicious.

The cookbook itself is heavy on recipes, short on pictures. In fact, there were no pictures at all in the sample I received, though I can't speak for what the final published version will look like. The recipes are packed in each chapter, so much so that it's hard to find something that won't appeal to at least one person in your household.

One note of warning: the recipes are traditional and therefore, not exactly reflective of today's health-conscious society. Lots of recipes start with a couple of sticks of butter, so if you're looking for a diet cookbook, this is not the book for you. While I don't have any stats on obesity rates in the Amish, I imagine they don't need to diet, with the increased walking and manual labor they do on a day-to-day basis. The perks of not being glued to a screen!

Before each chapter, there is a page describing Amish life, which I loved reading about, as so much of what we learn about the Amish as children in school seems to almost sound like legends. I found myself a little jealous of some of the traditions they have been able to maintain due to their isolation from our modern fast-paced society, though I don't envy the home-bound life of an Amish wife.

The layout and organization is as practical and no-nonsense as the Amish are. I think the spiral-bound nature of the physical copy will add to the practicality and the old-school charm that this book has going for it. Even though I only saw 97 pages of the 224 total, I am eager to purchase this cookbook after publication on Feb 1 to see what the other recipes entail!

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Amish Cooking Class Cookbook by Wanda Brunstetter is an excellent collection of recipes from a variety of sources. Some you may be more familiar with than the more traditional Amish recipes. Wanda has taken recipes from her series of Amish Cooking Class novels and added many other recipes to create this book. There are a variety of recipes from main dishes to snacks and desserts included. Many will easy for even a beginner to master. There are articles about Amish life at the beginning of each section which makes this cookbook more interesting and a special keepsake rather than just another recipe book. I have read the Amish Cooking Class series and that made me even more anxious to review the cookbook. I can just see Heidi Troyer working in her kitchen. I give this a solid 5 of 5 stars as it is well-written, researched and compiled in a logical manner. I will be trying several of he recipes.

This cookbook is a beautiful compilation of pictures, tips and recipes, along with a few extras for fans of Ms Brunstetter's novel series.

I was looking forward to trying some of the meal and canning recipes but sadly those weren't included in my advance reader copy so I'll have to look for the actual book after it comes out on February 1st.

This is a wonderful compilation of recipes that truly takes you back to basics but in a smart way. I've always admired the Amish and their way of life so this book was a treat for me. I took great pleasure in trying out recipes that they use in everyday life and had fantastic results with the ones that I tried: Johnnycakes, Lazy Daisy Cake, and an all time favorite Bread Pudding. If you like using fresh ingredients in an easy to follow way, this is a great guide in doing so.. The tips included were not only helpful but also practical. I look forward to coming back again and again until I've tried all the recipes this book has to offer. I can't wait for summer to try out some of the canning ones because who doesn't love a good pickle!!!

I received an Advanced Reader Copy from NetGalley for my unbiased opinion of the book. I really enjoyed this book. It is a cookbook based on recipes from her Amish cookbook romance series of books. I have read several of the series and they were very enjoyable! The recipes I have tried from the book were Orange Julius, Amish Cinnamon Bread, and Yogurt. All were delightful. The pictures and the in-depth recipe descriptions and helpful in achieving recipe success. I look forward to making many more recipes from this series.

I received a copy through Netgalley. A positive review was not required. If you have read the Amish Cooking Class series, you will especially love this cookbook. Visiting with Heidi and her students is really fun. The recipes presented here are from the stories plus others added in as bonus. Quick tips and Helpful notes are added so that even the beginning cook will find this very helpful. I cannot wait to try most of these recipes.

I’m gonna be right upfront and honest here. I didn’t get the entire cookbook but a sampler of the cookbook. What I did have access to though makes me want to own the entire thing. Not that I necessarily follow recipes (once, I’ll give it once before I start fizzyfing it if I like it). But I like recipes. I like the promise that a new recipe holds for Fizzy’s Kitchen. I like the idea that someone has created something that I want to cook for myself or the Minions.

I loved that this cookbook starts with telling about all the students that took Heidi’s class (including her and Lyle). A brief bio and their favorite foods were a cute addition to this collection that really does tie the books together. The recipes from the books are also included with this cookbook as well as many others. I also loved that the book approaches the categories of recipes as though written for a beginner cook with tips and tricks. And basic starter recipes like pie crust at the beginning of the pie section. This is so much more than just a cookbook but almost a kitchen primer based from an Amish home. Containing details regarding the Amish lifestyle, particularly when it comes to food, as well as verses from the Bible to accompany each section it’s almost like sitting in Heidi’s kitchen and taking home a stack of bound recipe cards.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by NetGalley. I was not compensated for this review and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. I was not required to write a positive review.

This cookbook is not “just” a cookbook. Beside the many different recipes, there are several articles about the Amish way of life that are respectful of their traditions and values.

This cookbook is based on the “Amish Cooking Class” series by Wanda Brunstetter. Those who have read that delightful series will appreciate many of the comments about that series in this book. However, you don’t have to have read those books to soon realize that the recipes this book contains are ones that will become some of your family’s favorites.

I particularly enjoyed the “Advice from fellow cooks” section and will be trying out some of their suggestions. I found many recipes in the “breakfast” section that I’m looking forward to trying soon.

The beautiful photos make this book visually appealing. It would make a great gift for someone who loves learning about the Amish way of life.

As a cookbook collector, I can say this is one of my favorites. Since my heritage is Pennsylvania Dutch, i have been aquianted with and eating many of these recipes my whole life. The author has a very homey approach, sharing facts about her cooking school students and wonderful facts and pictures about the Amish. No matter where the Amish live, they have in common two things in particular, great food and their deep faith. I love the way Ms. Brumstetler injected Bible verses through the book along with the recipes. The real treasure are the recipes. All are made with easy to find ingredients. She also has modernized some recipes by using mixes where appropriate. The ones I made are delicious and the others should be as well. Great cookbook!

Fantastic cookbook. The book has great recipes and many tips and hints for successful cooking. I highly recommend this book for new cooks as well as the most experienced cook.

Wanda E. Brunstetter has created a unique set of characters and stories in her Amish Cooking Class series. Through these books, we have connected with Heidi Troyer as she hosted cooking classes for a number of individuals. Not only did she teach them to cook, but she also helped them through situations they were facing. Now, in the Amish Cooking Class Cookbook, we have the opportunity to learn from Heidi, characters from the book, and true-life Amish contributors.

There are 250 recipes in this book, and I loved the way we get recipes from different characters from the series. I found this to be a unique approach and help this cookbook stand out from the many other Amish cookbooks out there.

Another aspect of this cookbook I loved are the basic cooking instructions. We get tips on how to measure a dash of something compared to a pinch. We also learn how to boil potatoes, cook rice, and boil chicken.
With over 200 recipes to choose from, there was a very nice selection of recipes. I particularly liked the recipes for dog treats. These recipes tied into the series and the Troyer's dog.

I loved the way this cookbook gave me a number of recipes to try and took me deeper into the series through the recipes from the characters. Not only was this a delightful cookbook, it was also unique and made for a nice addition to my cookbook collection.

Wow, what a beautiful cookbook this is! Bestselling author, Wanda Brunstetter, has compiled the recipes she used in her Amish Cooking Class series of three books about a young Amish woman who held cooking classes. She also included recipes from other Amish cooks and the book has 250 recipes. The book itself is spiral bound and full of full-color pictures of foods and everyday life of the Amish. Just lovely to skim through (and drool over!). The book begins with an overview of each of the three books in the series, The Seekers, The Blessing, and The Celebration, and the characters in each. Another section gives very basic tips on cooking and food prep. Short articles, eleven of them, on Amish kitchens, mornings, sweets and canning are interspersed throughout the recipe sections. Recipe sections include the typical parts of a cookbook, breads, beverages, breakfast foods, desserts, main dishes and the like. Included at the back are three indexes, one that lists the contributors of the recipes, one that lists the recipes by section in the book and the third lists the recipes by key ingredients, which I like a lot. This is a great cookbook that I think I will be using on a regular basis. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the books in the series and am looking forward to reading through and using the cookbook.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review. The opinions are my own.

When I first read Wanda E. Brunstetter I never in a million years would have imagined myself having my faith questioned and not in a bad way it has made me believe more then ever in my path he has blessed me with. I was so excited to see she came out with a cook book. The recipes I tried made me feel more alive and I thanked god after each one I made. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did!

4.5 stars

This book is a companion to Brunstetter's "Cooking Class" series. There's a summary of the characters, as well as tidbits on Amish culture/history, and general baking tips. It's divided into various sections, making it easy to find the over 200 recipes included. The Amish are well-known for creating delicious, home-cooked meals. Traditional and non-traditional recipes are included, and many ingredients are easily accessible. This is a great book for cooks of all levels, from novice to expert. There are photos and scriptures included throughout. I may just have a new favorite cookbook.

Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley, but I wasn't required to leave a positive review.

A little different from most cookbooks, The Amish Cooking Class Cookbook by Wanda E. Brunstetter is based on a series of Wanda's novels, I didn't get a lot of recipes or pictures but what I read, I enjoyed. Definitely wanting this spiral bound Amish Cookbook. I really liked what I saw in my gifted sample copy from NetGalley.

Amish Cooking Class Cookbook What a yummy, delicious, fatten me up, outrageously scrumptious food. When you read the descriptions you think Oh these things they sound great. Then you make them and boy Oh boy are you sorry you did because they are too good to be true and they are very fattening. I think, but I trade some of the fattening things with good things and it works great. This book is so well worth the wait y'all.

Brunstetter always does a wonderful illustrating the life of the Amish. She continues with a cookbook full of Amish recipes - most of which look too delicious not to at least try once. I appreciate the care she takes in providing instructions and definitions for the beginning cook. Sometimes novice cooks are forgotten, mostly because most cookbook writers are experienced in the kitchen. Her directions and definitions are a boon to the beginner and a reminder for the experienced. A fun book to read and definielty has many recipes I plan to try.

This book is filled with simple recipes that even beginner cooks could manage. The recipes are mingled with little snippets about the characters from Wanda Brunstetter’s books. This makes it much more readable than a typical cookbook.

Before I received this extended preview of the Amish Cooking Class Cookbook from NetGalley, I had no idea that Wanda Brunstetter wrote other books. After reading this preview, not only do I want the entire cookbook, I want to read all of her books! I loved the helpful tips scattered throughout, and the recipes sound positively mouthwatering.

Thanks to Netgalley, Barbour Publishing, Inc., and Shiloh Run Press for providing me with the free excerpt.

In Wanda E. Brunstetter’s Amish Cooking Class Cookbook, Wanda incorporates the beloved characters from her Amish Cooking Class Series with cooking basics and Amish recipes in a way that even beginner cooks will be able to follow along. Heidi Troyer, her students, and other contributors share over 200 recipes, along with tips to help keep things running smoothly in the kitchen. You’ll learn things as basic as how to boil eggs and knead biscuits, as well as slightly more complicated skills like building a German pizza and an Amish feast. Divided into traditional cookbook categories, there are recipes for everyone and it’s broken down to teach all of the skills for cooks of all skill levels to be able to work towards bettering themselves and their cooking skills so they can build up to some of the more complex recipes.

My aunt used to take me to an Amish buffet and I always loved the food. I particularly enjoyed getting to experience foods that I couldn’t try anywhere else. Since then, I’ve started reading and enjoying the Amish novels by writers like Wanda E. Brunstetter, Beverly Lewis, and more. And they always talk about the Amish foods and the recipes always sound so good. So, I was very excited to get this book so I could begin to learn how to cook some of the dishes that I haven’t gotten to eat since my teens, recipes that I’ve read about and imagined, as well as recipes that I’d never heard of. All of the recipes were done in a way that makes the directions simple to follow. And, if you’re a beginner cook, the skills that you’re going to need are taught in a simple, straight forward manner, so you can learn at your own pace and, then, build on what you’ve learned. I’ve always wanted to learn how to bake breads and this book was a great place to start. And the desserts were wonderful, too. In fact, there are very few recipes that I don’t see myself trying, at some point. I think this book is going to give me new selections for when we have company over, for potlucks at work and church, and even for simple dinners at home, with my family.

I really enjoyed this book. I love cookbooks and can read them sort of like a novel. I must admit that when I received this book, though I shouldn't have been, I was a little surprised. The book contains a collection of recipes that Heidi taught in class in the author's Amish Cooking Class series. Even though I had not read the books in the series I was still amazed at the ease I could slip into this book. The variety of recipes come from women in various Amish Communities and I got really excited to see recipes that were from communities close to where I lived. Basically the series is about Heidi Troyer who is married, but has not been blessed with children and looking for a purpose she offers cooking classes to all ages in her home.

This book is divided into sections (chapters) that are very descriptive so you get a feeling for what's covered. For instance, Advice from Fellow Cooks was not only interesting but also helpful for any new cook or even a seasoned cook who maybe trying something new. Each section I found one or more recipes I plan to try. Each come with step by step instructions that are easy to follow.

This is a wonderful book that would make a great wedding gift or someone moving into their own home/apartment or even for someone like me who just loves cookbooks. Even though this book is a companion to the author's series I feel it's definitely a stand alone book.

Aside from just being the extended preview, I enjoyed paging through this one. The helpful hints at the front were very helpful. For example, when peeling potatoes, cover them in cold water so they don’t turn dark… Thumbs up! And you can have them sit like this overnight in the fridge and use them the next day. There’s also a helpful hint on the fastest way to peel potatoes. This is so nice to know while we are coming into Thanksgiving and Christmas Season. I’m also looking forward to trying the book's recipe on Eggnog for our tree trimming day coming up soon. Check this one out for delicious Amish cooking.

A must read. If you really want to “cook from scratch “, this is the cook to have on your shelf. Easy recipes, not complicated,. If you hate to cook, you will begin to have the “joy of cooking”. Impressive, but easy. Simple ingredients. Great for beginners who are tired of supermarkets prepared food. A great way to save money, and eat healthier. I highly recommend this delicious cookbook
