A Note From the Publisher
Meet Astro the Alien! Astro landed on earth and now lives in Ben and Eva’s backyard in a space pod. Together they take fun trips so that Astro can learn more about the world he now lives in! Written at a slightly higher level than the introductory Dear Dragon series, Astro the Alien books help early readers build on previous skills; expanding vocabulary and learning more complex concepts. Readers will have fun as they go along on adventures with Astro, Ben and Eva to learn interesting things about science, geography and history! Each book includes a note to caregivers and activities to promote reading success.

I applaud this series, clearly designed to educate small children and elementary age children, entertain, and guide in reading comprehension. Using repetition, with each speaker reiterating plus adding to the information given, children learn about animals, and also caring for animals (protectiveness). The included guide helps parents and teachers to promote both comprehension and understanding reading.

The Astro the Alien series is a Beginning to Read Book published by Norwood Press. I like this series as it is simple to read and filled with a lot of activities and suggestions at the end to help children develop both reading recognition skills and comprehension skills. The is also a work list of both hight frequency words and content words that can be shared before reading the book. In this book Astro visits his friends after they have returned from a trip to the beach. They tell Astro about some of the things they saw and he wants to see them as well. Off they go in Astro's space pod. His pod changes into both a boat and a submarine so they can see animals on the ocean surface, under the ocean and eventually when they come ashore on the beach, in a tide pool. . The illustrations were well done. They are bright, colourful and large so you can see the animals clearly. A good book for a family library and primary classroom.

This is an adorable little series of books that would be invaluable to parents and teachers of children from preschool age to young primary. Bright, vivid images will keep their attention, and the short, simple phrases teach them about ocean life. The reading reinforcements, that includes things like a vocabulary list, in the back of the book help to solidify what they learn. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to encourage a young child in their early science education.

This is another great entry in the Astro the Alien series. The illustrations are fantastic. Our boys (2 and 4.5) enjoyed the part when the pod turns into a submarine and dives deep exploring the creatures at the very bottom of the ocean. They were excited to see the squid and the blue whale. This is a great series for early readers and helps to build vocabulary and confidence.
