Description

She prayed for a fairy godmother and got a… karate instructor?

Hard-working single mom Caroline Jameson wonders why her son is so unruly. Weren’t children with Down syndrome supposed to be cuddly and compliant? Her ex says the boy belongs in an institution. Caroline will do anything to prove him wrong, even sign her son up for karate classes with a know-it-all instructor.

Lee Marivaux is an expert at reading people. He knows his feisty new student will thrive with firm guidance - and he’s right. He pegs the boy’s mother as a clueless socialite who loafs at the country club - and he’s never been so wrong.

It’s a battle of wills and misperceptions - until Caroline’s abusive ex shows up, demanding custody. Can Lee and Caroline join forces to keep the boy safe? And in a town called Liberty, will love give them the freedom to braid themselves into a strong new family?

An amazingly refreshing, original novel unlike anything I've read. Hilariously entertaining and really sucks you in by giving you the characters thoughts in a way that most Christian authors dont but that in real life, we have even when we shouldnt. We see the struggle to rely on God and how he overcomes all and how God uses other people to shine His light when there is darkness and confusion.

Caroline, a Ford Motors Engineer and single mother, has a difficult, energetic, 7 year old son with Down Syndrome who had left her husband when he attempted to strangle her 2 months after the baby's birth due to his handicap. Mr. Lee is a homeless karate instructor who works with homeless shelters, disabled kids and others and feels that you need to parent with a firm hand, even though he has no children of his own. When the father runs for office, he tries to make Caroline look like a kidnapper and receive custody over the son he never wanted. Will Caroline join forces with Lee before she loses her son and possibly her life or will she shelter herself from further heartbreak?

This is heartwarming story about a struggling single mother trying to raise a young son with Down's Syndrome and a budding romance with his karate instructor.

The author's writing style is very fresh and crisp, making this book a delight to read.

A clean, powerful, Christian romance that should be on everyone's to-be-read list.

I received a advance copy from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is not my usual review style, but there are just too many important things to say about this book. Third Strand of the Cord is mostly invisible, but is there to help with all the slings and arrows of the enemy. The enemy makes his appearance in the form of Bryan, Caroline's ex. Bryan strikes at everything Caroline loves, especially her son, Trent. Bryan is abusive, short tempered, and has his sights set on political greatness and will nothing short of perfection stand in his way.

Caroline needs help with Trent, his Down's syndrome has kept him delayed in his scholastic endeavors, his behavior is that of a child half his age. Instead of finding help with the school district, she finds help in the form of a karate teacher named Lee. Lee shows Caroline how she's holding Trent back. He begins to show Trent how to do things for himself, simple things like peeling an orange, and more difficult things like vacuuming the house.

The devil that prowls like a roaring lion seeking to destroy Caroline is Bryan.
Lee is the one who helps her put on her spiritual armor.
Her neighbor, Sharron, is the one who stands with Caroline in prayer, like Aaron and Hur stood with Moses.

Catherine Richmond also treats several social ills and some social mores:

domestic abuse
verbal abuse
physical abuse
stigmas for birth defects
using children as pawns in divorce cases
This is beyond a five star book, with two thumbs up, and sign language lessons for communication

My thanks to BooksGoSocial for allowing me to read and review this book and to NetGalley.com for providing the galley I read.

Caroline left Bryan, her ex-husband when he couldn't accept their Down syndrome baby. Now six years later, Caroline is a struggling single mother working hard as an engineer at the Ford plant. Lee, a Karate instructor, is a wonderful man volunteering much of his free time. Caroline finds a man that she can trust in Lee. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher through Netgallery. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. I enjoyed reading this Christian romance. Lee shows us what's most important in life. I really like this book.

I absolutely devoured this book because of the wonderful storytelling of this new-to-me author whose characters grabbed me by the heart insuring this is a story I won’t soon forget. Caroline’s life is exhaustingly chaotic because she’s a single working parent dealing with they unpredictability of her son’s behavior because he was born with Down Syndrome. That is until the day she meets Trent’s new karate teacher whose brilliant tutelage of her son slowly transforms both of their lives because of his excellent insight into kids with disabilities. Lee is an unusual man who lives life in the moment, never worrying about where he’ll sleep or if he’ll eat because God provides, and his Christian beliefs are just as strong as his Cajun accent. This book has a wonderful Christian message that is universal and the painfully awkward slow- building romance between Caroline and Lee is precious and heartwarming. I read an early copy of this book provided by BooksGoSocial through NetGalley and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.

This book was a delight to read. I loved the realistic characters and "real life" situations that some other romance novels lack. It gave that "Awwww" feeling in my stomach from the cute interactions of the couple. And there were none of the tawdry sex scenes that often permeate this genre.

I highly recommend.
