This book was really cute and a quick read. The couple in the book had a very fast and quick starting relationship, as the title suggests. Their one night stand leads to the main character becoming pregnant and that’s where their relationship starts. As cute as this book is, there is too much talking and explanations of problems! There were times where I saw myself just skimming the book because it was getting boring. My other problem is that we don’t even get to read about them becoming parents! The book ends and she’s still pregnant. That is why I gave this book 3 stars.

This is the 2nd book in Gridiron Knights series. This book is about a Nick Jacobs and Olivia Valenti. Olivia is over the English department at Cormac University in Kings Folly, South Carolina. Nick Jacobs just moved to Kings Folly to help his friend re-build the football team at Cormac.

Nick and Olivia meet because of their
friends Cade and Tess. After months of being around of each other and to much to drink in Vegas after Cade and Tess’s wedding they end up sleeping together. Tess wakes up he next morning actually excited about sleeping with Nick. She leaves his room before he wakes up but she also leaves a note about meeting up for breakfast. Once Olivia makes it back to her hotel room, her friend Delilah is waiting on her. Olivia confesses how she spent her night and that she is going Delilah leaves Olivia’s hotel room and goes straight to Nicks. Olivia tells Nick to stay clear of Olivia. Nick listens and doesn’t show up for breakfast.

Olivia and Nicks story really begins once they return to Kings Folly. Olivia takes several pregnancy tests and they all say positive. Olivia goes to the doctor and he confirms what the pregnancy tests say. As Olivia leaves the doctors office she literally runs into Nick. He asks if she is okay and she blurts our “I’m pregnant” on the sidewalk in the middle of town.

Olivia and Nick both have pasts with a lot of baggage. They both have major trust issues. Olivia and Nick agree to do co-parent and see how things go from there.

This is a very sweet book of two people finding their true selves and finding love. This book is dual POV, with suspense and sexy scenes. I can’t wait for the rest of this series.

I received a free copy for an honest review.

This is book 2 in the Gridiron Knights series. Honestly, when I started to read this book I did not think it was going to keep my interest, but I really did enjoy the first book so I kept going and I am happy to say I am glad I did.

This is Olivia and Nick’s story. After a drunken night of sex in Las Vegas, Olivia ends up leaving Las Vegas without Nick. She is unaware that Nick was originally interested in pursuing a relationship with her, actually was looking forward to it. Unfortunately with another involving themselves he left Las Vegas without speaking to her. Both had some tragic childhoods so Olivia was not surprised by the abandonment and Nick didn’t believe in love so he ended things before it even began. This will all will change once Olivia finds out she is pregnant.

As I was reading along I started feel a lot of respect for Nick. He finds out his estranged mother is ill so he packs her up and takes her home with him. She was part of his difficult history, but she was his mother so he was going to take care of her. Then he finds out Olivia is pregnant and he is all in. He takes his responsibilities seriously and he is willing to take this all on, on top of a new job, opening a garage with his brother and trying to figure out what the Gills are up to. He really is a great guy. Loved the scene at the doctor’s office with all his questions, it was so sweet!

As for Olivia, her childhood is really tragic, she loses her mother in the most horrible way so this on top of being a childhood prodigy has skewed her way of thinking about men, life and she basically shuts herself off from the world. But with Nick, she finally found someone who cares for her and someone she can count on.

There was the past that came back and almost derailed their love story, but I am happy it got resolved quickly. And I have to mention Kate, Olivia’s little dog. I so loved the scenes with her and Nick. Her sneering and crazy sneak attacks were adorable!

All in all a good read. Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book. All opinions are my own.

I wanted to like this book more. Olivia, the heroine is interesting - a child prodigy with a tragic past who has become a university professor. The hero is noble Having taken the rap from a tragic accident he didn’t cause, but he went into the military and served bravely. Now he’s trying to build a new life. When a night leads to an unexpected pregnancy, he wants to do everything right to help out Olivia.

The problem is that there seems to have been a whole lot that happened in the first book that is referenced but no details are given. We don’t know why the university they work at had its football program suspended for a year. We don’t know what the two shadowy evil rich guys did or what they’re still trying to do. We don’t know the source of the tensions among Olivia’s girlfriends. I don’t mind reading a book in a series without having read the first book, but I’d like to have a few sentences of exposition provided to catch me up.

And then there were other plotlines that weren’t resolved in this book. I guess that is to get us to read the next book in the series, but it seemed too many threads were left hanging.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

Nick doesn't like others touching what belongs to him, “you want to keep those hands, you’ll take them off her.” Nick’s voice came from the doorway and was filled with menace." Nick likes to have all his ducks in a row at times, “Plans that involve us spending a lot more time together, without your dog trying to wrestle me to the ground every chance she gets.” His heated gaze sent shivers through her body." I liked this book, I loved Nick the man always wanted to right by his lady.

Wow! Another great one! I loved this book and the first in the series, I enjoyed the first a tiny bit better but still both were awesome! They both are definitely stand alone! This is Nick and Olivia book, Nick had been brought on to help run the cormac university football program and Olivia runs the English department at cormac university! They end up having a drunkin night in Vegas at their friends wedding and Olivia ends up preggers!! They both had very bad parenting and Nick definitely doesn't believe in love! Olivia had a dramatic loss of her mother and has stated away from getting close to anyone! Like I said I really enjoyed reading this book! Don't miss out on this book or the series! I saw that the first book didn't have a lot of reviews in not sure why?! These were great books!! Maybe the covers? Not sure?! I'm friends with some big authors and this book was just as good or in some cases even better! Definitely take a chance they were good books!! Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for sharing this book with me!

I had a hard time staying interested in this book.

Shotgun Romance is the 2nd book in Elizabeth Spaur's Gridiron Knights Series. This book focuses Olivia, a child genius and now English department head and Nick, a standup guy that spent time in the military rather than serve a prison sentence for a crime he didn't commit and now football assistant coach for the Knights. Both had an attraction to one another and spend one night together in Vegas after celebrating the wedding of their close friends resulting in a surprise pregnancy.
Ms. Spaur's writing and characters are good. I did enjoy the conversations and banter among the friend groups, lovers and especially the comic relief coming from Nick and Olivia's dog Kate. I think I could have really enjoyed this book and the characters more but I often found myself asking "What did I miss?" As I stated above, this is the 2nd book in the series and apparently there was a great deal that happened in book 1 that I did not read. I have read many books in a series out of order with the author usually summarizing a person, situation and/or history in one or two sentences bringing the reader up to speed without missing out on the book they are currently reading. This wasn’t the case for Shotgun Romance. I felt lost, confused and disappointed which ultimately left me frustrated.
I love a good football romance and surprise baby is an added bonus but unfortunately this one fell short for me.

This book was provided to me by NetGalley for a fair and honest review.
2.5/5 stars

This is book is the 2nd of a series but the first book I've read from this author. I enjoyed how the story had more going g on than just the romantic relationship between the two leads. There is also another story going on that isn't resolved in this book. I was bummed to get to the end of this. It's not a cliffhanger, but more a happy for now. This story is definitely not over. There's a great cast of characters here too so it's easy to see how there can be many more books to the series. I just loved Kate! She added a needed dose of humor every so often. I can't wait for the next book!

What an interesting a unique storyline this was to read. It was like peeling an onion layer by layer. Yet, no tears. Okay, some tense moments.
This is a story of two people who by rights could have at any time sat down and given up. Instead, they decided to do the exact opposite. You have Olivia the child who started college at nine. Her small brain at nine was bigger than a full-grown adult. Her life was not an easy one at all. Yes, she was gifted but what friends could she have? Think about it. Really, think about it. Her peers educational wise is, “Yeah, right.” And nine-year-olds are like, “What is she talking about?”
Then, at sixteen her father murders her mother. His family turns their backs on her. Her mom had no family so she was emancipated because y the time he was found guilty she had finished graduate school.
As for Nick. He was getting a second chance. Not to play football but to help those on the field and be near the game. His old teammate and military buddy, is going to be the head coach at Cormac Univ. Cade is a good friend. Even knowing his past.
When he is a senior his girlfriend and her best friend took off in his truck after lifting his keys out of his pocket while kissing him. They had been drinking. When he realized this, he tried to stop them by jumping into the bed of the truck. His girlfriend’s friend was killed when his girlfriend slams into a tree. Long and short of it he takes the blame for it since it was his truck and says he was driving.
The judge gave him an option of 4 years in the military or prison he took the military and stayed in much longer. Then he moved to King’s Folly to open a mechanic shop with his brother, Simon. When Cade calls about the job, he came.
He sees Olivia the first days he is in town at the library. She is the head librarian. With his background, he doesn’t figure he can dirty up her life. But when she being a good friend of Cade’s future wife and then all end up in Vegas for their wedding together and Olivia and Nick end up on the dance floor more than once. It is fate.
What they thought was a ‘One and Done’ turns into a lot more. He finds out and there is a no obligation clause she gives him but he wants to be involved. Now Olivia’s on two weeks bed rest. See what goes on.
I enjoy the dynamics of this couple. The closeness of their friends and the one for all mentality. I am having questions as to what the Gills are up to, we never find out. Why Brian is delaying the divorce and why Jr. locked out Sr.?
I give this book 5 stars. Provided by netgalley.com.

So chapter one had my full attention. I really enjoyed chapter one and thought this would be an awesome book.
Olivia and Nick have been friends/have mutual friends for awhile, but after drinking a bit much after a friend's wedding, they have a great night of love making. Both are happy when they wake until Delilah talks to Nick (just the two of them).
Olivia had invited Nick to breakfast but he stands up his dream girl since he decides she deserves better after talking to Delilah. So he completely leaves.
We then find out Olivia is pregnant.... I was still into the book at this time.
Then it got boring for me and I lost interest. I stopped reading this book after chapter 6. I could not get back into it.

This is book 2 in the series.
This is the first book I have read by this author.
