Description

The first in a wickedly seductive new Scottish historical romance series from New York Times bestselling author Suzanne Enoch!

“It’s time to fall in love with Suzanne Enoch.” — Lisa Kleypas

HAPPILY-EVER-AFTER
London socialite Amelia-Rose Baxter is nobody’s fool. Her parents may want her to catch a title, but she will never change who she is for the promise of marriage. Her husband will be a man who can appreciate her sharp mind as well as her body. A sophisticated man who loves life in London. A man who considers her his equal—and won’t try to tame her wild heart...

IN THE HIGHLANDS
Rough, rugged Highlander Niall MacTaggert and his brothers know the rules: the eldest must marry or lose the ancestral estate, period. But Niall’s eldest brother just isn’t interested in the lady his mother selected. Is it because Amelia-Rose is just too. . . Free-spirited? Yes. Brazen? Aye. Surely Niall can find a way to soften up the whip-smart lass and make her the perfect match for his brother for the sake of the family.

JUST GOT A WHOLE LOT HOTTER.
Instead it’s Niall who tempts Amelia-Rose, despite her reservations about barbarian Highlanders. Niall finds the lass nigh irresistible as well, but he won’t make the mistake his father did in marrying an Englishwoman who doesn’t like the Highlands. Does he have what it takes to win her heart? There is only one way to find out...

This book is an engaging romp of a book which pulls you in to the fun immediately.

Francesca, Lady Aldiss, and her Scottish husband Laird Angus McTaggart, have been estranged and living apart; Francesca in London, Angus in Scotland; for seventeen years. Francesca could not stomach the highlands any more, but was only permitted to take her daughter Eloise with her. She had to leave her 3 sons in Scotland, Coll, Aden and Niall have always believed that their mother abonadoned them, and are full of resentment about it.

Their father has brought them up to be fierce highlanders, with contempt for what they see as namby pamby Sassenachs, however, their mother holds the purse strings. They discover, when Coll is thirty and Niall twenty four, that their father has signed an agreement with their mother, if their sister weds, they must all marry English Ladies, one of whom will be their mother’s choice, otherwise Clan Ross will lose his Francesca’s money. Incensed by this, they are heading to London to comply with the letter of the agreement, and all intending to leave their Sassenach wives in England, and continue on in their rowdy bachelor lifestyle in the Highlands.

Coll, the oldest, is the one who has to marry the woman selected by his mother. Francesca has brokered an agreement between the Baxter’s daughter Amelia-Rose and Coll, if they suit. Amelia-Rose has been very outspoken in her previous seasons, and her mother is very keen for her to marry a title.

Coll’s resentment at his situation cuses him to disappear for days, shortly after they first meet and Niall steps into the breach, being the nearest one to a peacemaker in his family. Increasingly desperate to locate Coll, he convinces Amelia-Rose to play along with the fiction that he is escorting her to Coll, for a number of outings. As they get to know each other, Niall recognises he is falling for Amelia Rose, but he knows that the agreement is important, and must happen, if Coll and Amelia-Rose will accept each other.

Eventually Niall decides he loves Amelia-Rose, for her intelligence and outspokenness, and once they have accepted each other, he has to find a way to get them married, win the Baxter’s over, and find a way to ensure A-R can share her time out between her beloved London, and the highlands. Throw in 2 rowdy elder brothers, a strict chaperone, a social climbing mother, and a namby pamby English Lord, and plenty of mayhem ensues.

I loved this book, apart from the “sunlight hair, and cornflower eyes” bits. Suzanne Enoch always writes a well paced and interesting story, and she doesn’t let us down here. I loved the way that Amelia-Rose comes to realise that society entertainments arn’t everything, how Niall respects and honours her wishes, and admires her intelligence and character. I also liked the way that the prickly relationship between the brothers and Francesca slowly begins to be teased out, and how they find some common ground. The resolutions to obstacles are well handled and satisfyingly resolved, rather than rushing to sort everything out swiftly. My favourite part was the way that Niall strove to find a way to give AmeliaRose everything she wanted: rime in London, maintaining a relationship with her parents, the space to be herself, avoiding too much scandal, and so on.

I’m really looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series, hopefully we get to find out what happens to Coll and Aden, whether Eloise gets her HEA with Matthew, and what happens to Jane Burniss, the companion!

Just fab.

Anytime Highlanders in kilts with their Scottish brogues are the heroes in a Suzanne Enoch book, you are in for a delightful weekend read. The unusual arrangement between an English mother and Scottish father for the marriage of their three sons starts the Wild Wicked Highlanders series. With their father claiming to be on his ‘death’ bed and telling said three sons about a signed agreement with the estranged English mother for them to marry English women, you know you are in for a treat. Mom holds the purse string to the family funds.

Coll, the oldest son is suppose to marry Amelia-Rose but he balks at every turn trying to disgust and frighten her equally into breaking off the engagement. He even disappears for a few days. Niall, as the family peacemaker and youngest son, falls for Amelia-Rose from the beginning. He begins by filling in for his brother while Aiden, the middle brother, searches for Coll. He realizes he cannot live without her.

Amelia-Rose’s mother insists she marry a title. Thus, the arrangement to marry Coll, a viscount and heir. Amelia has had several marriage offers previously but none are titled gentlemen. And, she has been found to be a bit too outspoken. While Coll is missing Niall MacTaggert, the youngest son, makes sure to escort Amelia about town filling in for his brother. These two had an immediate connection that begins to grow quickly.

You will find witty conversation, multiple unplanned betrothals, a kidnapping, a possible groom held against his will. All of this leads to a sweet HEA through Gretna Green. Under all of this confusion is the separation of Coll, Aiden and Niall’s parents. Their mother was lonely in the highlands, their father disliked London. Although you get glimpses of what caused their separation all those years ago, you cannot help but feel there is more to their story. Their mother truly missed her sons. She disliked that their little sister did not get to be raised with them.

This is going to be another great Enoch series. I am looking forward to the next book.

Always the peacemaker, Niall, the Scottish hero here, plays a cat and mouse game trying to keep his stubborn, English hating, hard headed brother in line and a deal on the table that will secure his clan’s future and keep them all from starving. No one is more surprised than Niall, he’s fallen for the very English Rose who has been hand picked for his oldest sibling, Coll, the future Laird.

Niall might know his way around the local lasses back home, which I admittedly winced very time that fact was mentioned, but he also knows when to fight and not back down, especially when he’s fighting for love. Once he got over his reservations, he was in it to win it and wouldn’t be swayed. His always trying to see both sides, willing to compromise mindset paid off here. Along with his backup plan: use your fists and do what you got to do.

Coll and Aden will likely eventually get their own HEAs. The author will have her work cut out for her with those two knuckleheads. Coll is super stubborn and Aden is good at cutting and running to avoid fallout. Both also have to find an English bride in the very near future and have past womanizing reputations.

Amelia-Rose had a often hidden streak of sassiness that was usually quickly suppressed by her family. I don’t blame her for questioning Niall’s intentions considering what his family put her through. It didn’t help Coll was an unbelievable jerk most of the time. She does have spirit and great back and forth banter with Niall that made them a perfect pair.

I’ll definitely be keeping my eye out for future sequels in this series. Though I’m not usually a fan of love stories that take most of the book for the couple to be together, her writing and unfolding plot kept me thoroughly engaged. I am nervous about delving into the two brother's history of loving and leaving too many willing lasses in the haystacks, barns, etc.

Title: It’s Getting Scot in Here, Series: Wild Wicked Highlanders (Book 1), Author: Suzanne Enoch, Pages: 352, stand-alone but part of a series, a couple of smexy scenes late in the book, peacemaker/good guy Scot hero, loves London society heroine, relationship angst, fights to get the girl hero.

Amelia-Rose Baxter must secure a husband during her second London season in order to please her overbearing, social climbing mother. The ladies of her time period have little choice but to marry well or face the dreaded spinsterhood. Amelia-Rose knows how she is supposed to behave, but her sharp mind and even sharper tongue cause much consternation for high society young women are not allowed such liberties. Entered in to a possible engagement with a wild, rough, barbarian Highlander who has been forced by his English mother to wed or lose the family’s ancestral home, Amelia-Rose is not sure what is worse: marry a dull, insipid or even elderly titled man or a Scot who has little use for her other than securing his heritage.

Three Scottish brothers descend on their mother’s London house under duress intending to be as belligerent and resistant as possible. After all, Lady Aldriss has not seen her sons in seventeen years so why should they care about her desires. The youngest, Niall MacTaggert, is the peacemaker of the family and spends much time with Amelia-Rose after a disastrous first meeting with the eldest brother, Coll, whom she is supposed to marry. As they become acquainted, it is clear that Niall has more than a brother-in-law to be feelings for Amy, as she likes to be called, and she begins to feel much for him. The brothers all plan to high tail it back to Scotland and leave their hapless brides behind, but much changes for Niall once he decides this beautiful English rose is for him. They have a lot of obstacles to overcome in order to be together, but the Scots are known for their canniness so Niall accepts the challenge.

Women had few choices about their own happiness especially for those under twenty-one like Amelia-Rose so they had to be smarter than their oppressors. For the MacTaggert brothers, losing their family home and lands was to be avoided at all costs. So both sides have much to gain or lose depending on the outcome.

I thoroughly enjoyed this historical romance. Ms. Enoch’s cleverly crafted tale is witty, well-paced, engaging, and I think, a good representation of the marriage game in that time period. This story is first in a series called The Wild Wicked Highlanders. I look forward to seeing how the next brother and the woman who catches his interest will fair in book two.

I absolutely loved, It's Getting Scot In Here. It perfectly set up this series and left me wanting so much more.

If you have never fallen in love with a highlander, you will once you've finished this book!  I blushed, I sighed, I swooned...it was a roller coaster of mushy emotions in my head as I plowed through this book in only a few hours.  I couldn't help but laugh at the banter between characters, and I adored the family introduced in this series.  It's the first book, which is always a happy time for me!  It means I have a lot of great reading to look forward to.

The last thing Niall MacTaggert and his two elder brothers want to do is leave their home in the highlands and come to a city full of dandies and cold-blooded women - London.  But when their long-estranged mother calls them home so they can fulfill a marriage bargain made when they were still children, Niall and his brothers have no choice but to oblige her.  Although Niall's eldest brother, Coll, agrees to be the one to marry whomever their mother chose, Niall has a difficult time accepting it when he meets Coll's intended, Amelia-Rose Baxter.  She is everything he never knew he wanted, and now he must watch her marry his brother.  Unless things turn in his favor..and with Scotsmen, you never know what will happen next.

I loved, loved, loved Niall!  Everything about his personality made me excited to read more and root for him to the very end.  He was quick to make people laugh, kind to his sister, and stood up for Amelia-Rose against even his own family.  Instead of making her feel rejected by his brother, he  took action to make her feel wanted and welcome, and that spoke volumes about his character.  Although he claimed his actions were partly due to the marriage bargain, it was clear that his feelings for her drove him to treat with her with such respect and affection.  Amelia-Rose was a delight to read, especially when her true personality shone through.  At times she was apologetic and tried to mask her inner self, but with Niall, she was able to be herself without worry of judgment or ridicule.

The secondary characters were equally engaging, as Suzanne Enoch gave insight into each other their personalities.  Even Amelia-Rose's companion, Jane, had a large role, and I was able to get a good understanding of who she was.   Niall's sister, Eloise, and her fiance, Matthew, were portrayed very well, for the little amount of page time they received, and I kept thinking to myself - they deserve their own book.  They're adorable together!

I am eager to see where this series goes next!  Any of the options sound amazing.

On to the important stuff! This is my favorite Suzanne Enoch book yet. I love everything about it. (To be fair, I haven't read every single book from her back-cannon) Hands down, favorite that I've read so far. The story is completely swoon worthy. The sweet parts were just the right amount of tender to make me sigh, but not so much that I rolled my eyes. The characters' antics kept me chuckling throughout the story.

Niall is an amazing hero. He is all gallant and self sacrifice, humor and charm, protection and support. I adored him. And Amy! Ah! I love her so much! She strives so hard to please her over-bearing mother, but this girl has her limits.

The side characters in this story are just as cool as the main ones. I loved Amy's companion, Niall's siblings, and even the MacTaggart Momma. I am very excited about this series. I fell hard for the whole MacTaggart family.

“Wickedly seductive” is one way to describe this novel, it is also witty, entertaining and exciting. “It’s Getting Scot in Here” is an amazing start to an addictive new series and if there is one writer who knows how to write witty and sexy highland heroes, it is Suzanne Enoch.

In order to honour the promise that their Scottish father gave their English mother many many years ago, the MacTaggert brothers find themselves going to London to each find a English bride. Considering that these three brothers have never set foot south of the border and spend their days farming and living the rough life of a highlander, you can just imagine the fun that awaits you on the pages of this hilarious and yet highly seductive book.

It was the eldest brother Coll who had drawn the straw and was to be wedded to the bride of their mother’s choice, but Amelia-Rose Baxter is not the timid, biddable English rose that the brothers had imagined and hoped to find. Instead they find an independent and smart young lady who isn’t afraid to speak her mind. Niall, the youngest MacTaggert finds himself as the peacemaker who is trying desperately to show Coll in the best light possible. With the fear of loosing their father’s estate if they don’t keep their promise to their mother, the stakes are high and they need to get on with marrying as soon as possible.

While Amelia-Rose May be the exact opposite of what Coll is looking for in a bride, it seems that Niall has found his match. But with no title to offer can he really find his happily ever after?

Absolutely loved this book! Suzanne Enoch continues to mesmerize!!!

Oh, you're going to love this! It's Getting Scot In Here by Suzanne Enoch is a fantastic historical romance. Ms. Enoch has presented us with a book that is well-written and populated with characters that are outstanding. Lady Aldriss has summoned her three sons to London from their home in the Highlands. Or maybe you'd say blackmailed them. They must find English brides before their younger sister marries. Amelia-Rose has been tasked with marrying the eldest McTaggart brother. He disappears for days within minutes of their first meeting leaving his brother Niall to fill in and make excuses for him. Amelia and Niall's story is loaded with drama, humor, action and steamy sexy bits. This story captured me on the first page and didn't set me free until the end. I loved reading It's Getting Scot In Here and can't wait for the next book. It's Getting Scot In Here is book 1 of the Wild Wicked Highlanders but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
