This well-researched romance is set in England during the heydey of the Bow Street Runners in the 1800's, when London and its outskirts were dangerous and travelers often targeted by highwaymen. It made me think just a bit of the American Wild West era, a few years later. The story follows a young woman on her way to be married to a man she barely knows, and the Bow Street Runner who saves her life and captures her heart, something neither intended. The Runners were the first professional police force of London and while they did a good job, their lives were often foreshortened by the danger of the job, and they were not always well-respected nor well-paid, creating difficulty for a Runner to provide a stable home for a wife and family. The themes of the book include integrity, faith, love of family, and responsibility. The action is credible, the dialogue is natural, and the characters are skillfully revealed through the course of the book. I found this book entertaining, wholesome, and uplifting, despite the realistic portrayals of dangerous situations which befell the characters. Five stars from me.

The first thing that attracted me to this book was the cover, loved it.
After reading the book I found that the character on the front of the book certainly lived up to the character in the book, Captian Samuel. The book is definitely a God can do all things when you rely on Him type of book that I love. We always need that reminder. I will definitely be reading more books by Michelle Griep.

I volunteered to read this book from Barbour Publishing, the opinions expressed within are my own.

Reasons to read this book:
#1- it's a Michelle Griep book.
#2- it's the conclusion to The Bow Street Runners.
#3- it has scoundrels, adventure, and lots of romance.
#4- did I mention it's by Michelle Griep?

These Bow Street Runner guys are just heroes in disguise, and that is Samuel as well. Though he didn't have to travel with Abigail all the way to her destination, his integrity didn't let him part with her, and he took his role of guardian seriously.

I really liked Abby and Samuel's interactions, especially with the baby, and the way they behaved as a family.
It was also fun to see Samuel with the other two Bow Street Runners, and get an update on them.

The ending was so sweet! Loved it!

I got a copy from the publisher through NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

If you have never read a book by Michelle Griep, you are depriving yourself of a real treat. The Noble Guardian, the last book in the Bow Street Runners Trilogy was hard to put down. I was so invested in this story that I put everything on hold just so I could finish this book - it was that good!

Where do I start? First, I did not know this was part of a series, so for those wondering, yes, it can be read as a standalone book. That said, now that I've read it, I'm off to buy the first two books because if they are anything like this one, I won't be disappointed.

I loved the integrity of Samuel Thatcher. Even though his perspective on life had become jaded, he does his best to keep Abigail safe as she travels to meet her betrothed. I loved how he grew throughout the story to not only become a better man but to find a more profound faith in God.

I loved how the author started this story with an almost Cinderella-like feel with the relationship between Abigail and her stepmother and two step-sisters. The author managed to get me on Abigail's side immediately, making me root for her throughout the story. Abigail also grows in her faith and discovers what it means to know God. The lessons learned by both characters in regards to trusting God were excellent.

I have nothing at all negative to say about this book. It was just perfect! I highly recommend it. It releases June 1st, so pre-order your copy now!

This isn't really a story, it is more like an experience. You feel as though you are watching a movie or living within the pages of this book. What a lovely experience!! Each scene is painted with the utmost love and attention to detail. This is my first Griep novel, but it will not be my last!!

This book is absolutely wonderful!! It is beautifully written and the author makes the people and scenery come to life. This is the shining example that all things are possible with God. I highly recommend this book. Thank you Barbour Publishing via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this awesome book. All opinions expressed are my own, I was not required to write a review.

What a lovely book! The sort of book where everything is squeaky clean is not my sort of thing. I am not big on religious books either and this one is churched up. However, there is action, a smidge of romance and some divine intervention involved.

What does happen is two people find each other under extraordinary circumstances. It's best that way.

I received an advance copy of this book. The opinion expressed here is solely my own.

The Noble Guardian is one of the best books I have read by this author. I have enjoyed all of her books but this one just stood out to me. I loved this romantic story. It had lots of action, and awesome characters. Especially little Emma. The hero is a bow street runner and is a brooding captain who has lived a hard life. The heroine is a lovely, naive, yet spunky young woman looking for an ever lasting love. The chemistry between them is evident from the first time they meet. I loved it!!

'Staring at death was nothing new. It was a way of life. A companion Samuel frequently clasped hands with.'

At last! Michelle Griep gives us Samuel Thatcher's story in her Bow Street Runners trilogy. When I first met this man in previous books, I knew he had a story to tell and knew it would be a good one. I was wrong. It was a great one. When I saw the cover some time back, that feeling was simply reinforced.

Abigail Gilbert has been betrothed to a baronet, but must travel a long journey to his ancestral home to marry him. She is more than ready to leave a family who has no use for her. A family that can't even be bothered to give her a manservant to travel with her on a dangerous journey. And danger does indeed come, in the form of highwaymen.

Captain Samuel Thatcher arrives just in time to save Abby from said highwaymen. He despises his job and is hoping to retire and buy land and become a farmer, far away from crime and death. Abby asks him to escort her on her journey and he agrees only when she offers him a great deal of money. He can buy his property and retire from pursuing criminals. However, one of those criminals, the most vicious sort, is after him and nothing will stop this man from seeing Thatcher die. But Samuel has promised to keep Abby safe and he intends to keep that promise. He will be tested down to his last nerve in doing so, though.

Michelle Griep is a huge favorite of mine. Her books just get devoured here. When I open one and begin to read, I lose track of time and everything around me until I finish it. But … I want to race toward the end and I also want to slow down and savor every moment. So....I end up rereading many passages again and again, highlighting and writing in the margins. Griep manages somehow to capture each character in so much detail that they feel as if you're riding along in the coach with them in the storms, battling the highwaymen and feeling every emotion in their hearts. And her spiritual themes are what some might call simple and direct, but they are very, very profound. I loved every moment of it and now I wish I could read it all over again. Samuel Thatcher is the epitome of a noble guardian and a mighty fine hero! Highly recommended.

My thanks to Barbour Publishing for a copy of this book via Net Galley. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.

If you are looking for historical Christian fiction brimming with the characterization of a taciturn, valiant hero and a lively, generous heroine, while courting danger around every bend and the demonstration of courage in the face of disappointments, Michelle Griep's The Noble Guardian has it all! Adventure. History. Romance. The third in The Bow Street Runners series, it's easy to read as a standalone.

Two bruised individuals, an adorable cherub of a child, and well-shaped secondary characters shine. At 32o pages in the paperback format, it's not a short book, but it's quite the tale of longing, revenge, and as mentioned previously, danger (almost ridiculous amounts of danger, to be honest. I mean it's fiction, but life just kept throwing one curveball after another - which of course they handled with fortitude and style.) They faced seemingly insurmountable hurdles while trying to navigate their futures and escape the wounds of their pasts while racing cross-country through Regency England.

The story was liberally sprinkled with references to faith and the characters' development of conviction and hope. As they lean on each other, they each find safety - both physically and emotionally - as they become the family they've always needed.

I truly enjoyed this spin on my go-to genre and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a heartwarming historical tale of hope and redemption.

The Noble Guardian is a exceptional book with wonderful characters. Captain Thatcher is your dreamy and rugged guardian, Abby is short tempered and determined to be loved. On their journey to Brakewell Hall many obstacles come into play that help each character grow .
Michelle Griep does a wonderful job of drawing the reader into the story and opening our hearts to the troubles and sorrow some of the characters have to endure. There is action, romance and suspense all the makings of a story that keeps you holding your breath until the last page. Storytelling at its finest!

As always with a book by Michelle Griep, this was wonderful. The conclusion to The Bow Street Runners series was as fantastic as the previous books. Abby and Samuel were wonderful characters with wonderful growth throughout the book, both together and as individuals. Hope and faith were an important thread in the book but certainly not off=putting if that's not someone else's cup of tea. It was great getting updates on the previous characters from the series too! A fantastic read!

The Noble Guardian is Michelle Griep's newest book. It is the latest installment in her Bow Street Runners trilogy. Each book is a stand alone novel with mention of characters from past books.
I love Michelle's writing style. She brings her stories to life with well researched facts with a touch of humor. She does an excellent job of weaving romance and suspense together with an element of faith. Michelle is definitely one of my favorite authors in the Historical Fiction genre.

This was an amazing story! It grabbed me from the beginning and wouldn't let go. It still continues to haunt me even after several weeks. I love the characters and their tenacity to go after what they want. Abby has been pushed aside for most of her life in a home where the step-mother and children don't like her. Her father ignores her. When Abby gets the chance to leave she grabs hold. She continues on her journey to her fiance even in the midst of danger. Captain Samuel is just finishing out his contract so he can have a peaceful life that is without going after the bad guys. The way that Captain can't seem to let Abby go on her own is endearing. Abby can't let Captain leave with a toddler in tow when she needs to get to her fiance. The two help each other out while their feelings for each other grow. The chemistry between the couple blooms throughout the story. This book is full of adventure and romance. It is also full of characters that need to find their new identities. I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves romance and adventure.

Samuel Thatcher would make any woman's heart thunder and her pulse race! Not only for his dark good looks, but for the heart of a hero that beats beneath a brooding facade. Too many years of being a Bow Street runner has jaded his opinion of people and convention be hanged, he won't allow a slip of a girl make him soft. Abigail Gilbert is his perfect opposite, not backing down when he scowls (or growls) at her. These two are fun to watch! And there's plenty of action and danger around the corner to keep your heart rate up. Simply put, there's seriously nothing I don't like about this story. I always know I'm in for a treat with a Michelle Griep book.

The Noble Guardian serves well as a standalone, it isn’t lacking, whether you’ve read the previous books in the trilogy or not.

First, I have to mention this stunning cover art. I’m not usually attracted to books with male leads on the cover (sorry, not sorry) but this particular one, along with the intriguing title, is definitely attention-grabbing.

Now, on to the hero. Oh. My. I adore Captain Samuel Thatcher. I love how the further I read the more I see behind his stony, brooding persona. The author takes her time to reveal his compassionate heart and soul, and I enjoy every moment of it. As of right now, he is my favorite male lead of 2019!

Abigail (Abby) Gilbert is more transparent and less complicated—yet it takes a little longer to connect to her. As she grows sturdier and more mature, my affections also grow. So much progression throughout the story. Her positive attitude and stubbornness are refreshing and entertaining.

As for the secondary characters, I’m impressed with how well developed they are, and how essential they are to the fullness of this story—the good guys and bad guys alike.

I adore the story arc, the spiritual vein, and the rich characters. I’ve enjoyed anything I’ve read by Michelle, Griep, for she is a very talented storyteller, but The Noble Guardian is most certainly my favorite!

This is definitely Michelle Griep’s most exciting work to date! A true Regency road-trip adventure in the first 2/3 of the story, it’s also an emotional roller coaster in the last 1/3. Great care is given not to make our heroes too naive or too much a martyr, and the romantic relationship (for there are many different examples of love and relationships here) unfolds at just the right pace. I was absolutely riveted and read it in one sitting.

4.5 ⭐️ s
This is my 5th book by this author and it was my favorite! *Sigh* I loved the main characters. And can we talk about the cover? L💕ve it!

I was hooked right away and smiled constantly watching the interaction between these too. Lots of chemistry between them and of course the HEA that I have to have.

A great historical romance in my opinion with some angst and lots of adventure.

This was a NETGALLEY gift and all opinions are my own.

The Noble Guardian is the third and last book to The Bow Street Runner Series. I think Michele saved the best for last. If you have not read the first two books to this series, do yourself a favor and read them first. Although, The Nobel Guardian reads fine as a stand alone book. I loved each of Michele's Runner characters. But I am so glad to be able to read Samuel Captain Thatcher's story. I loved the little glimpses we got of him in the prior novels. Our main character along with the Captain is Abigail Gilbert. She is a Cinderella type, who is headed across England to finally meet and marry her Prince Charming. Her family could not be bothered to supply her with a proper escort and that is where she meets Captain Thatcher. I loved this story and would highly recommend it. I received a copy of this book from Barbour Publishing through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

The Noble Guardian is the 3rd book in Michelle Griep's Bow Street Runners series. I have previously read the second book in the series, but not the first one. This book can easily be read as a stand alone novel. As fans have come to expect from Michelle Griep, this historical novel is filled with action, adventure, danger, and romance. I absolutely love the cover of The Noble Guardian...such a handsome hero! Readers will be in for a treat with this delightful novel! Michelle Griep does not disappoint.

First I want to say thank you to Barbour Publishing and NetGalley who provided me with an ARC of this amazing historical novel.
The plot was extremely well written and keeping me in twists and interested until the very end. The whole story was literally one long ride full of hurdles, accompanied by hunt for criminals and keeping the precious parcel safe.

One sassy woman, abandoned child on its way to relatives and their guardian travelling halfway through England to fulfill held promises. The path was stony while fighting highway men, illness and broken carriage but bringing on unexpected development of new and strongly growing feelings.

The heroine charmed her way into everyone's heart due to her strong personality. The guardian and his noble ways of keeping both safe at all costs while fighting his own demons and enemies.

What would you want more? There is nothing to wish more for. Although in the end I was a little bit sad to part with them because let's be honest I enjoyed the journey and cheered them on the whole time.

I cannot say enough good things about this book! Captain Samuel Thatcher is the best hero!
The writing is excellent. The adventure is well paced with lots of action and just enough quiet moments for this reader to catch her breath. We get to know the characters strengths and weaknesses during the action and quiet times.
I loved how the romance was slow building, yet all-encompassing at the same time.

This third book from Michelle Griep on the Bow Street Runners was a great conclusion to a fast-paced romantic series. Abigail and Samuel must face many challenges in The Noble Guardian. Abigail is a cinderella-type character, scorned and taken advantage of by her family. She is sent to her fiancé with only a maid to accompany her and experiences a terrifying journey as they are attacked by highwaymen. Samuel is a battle-weary hero who travels the roads as a Bow-Street Runner. He is targeted by a notorious highwayman and when Samuel agrees to help Abigail get to her fiancé, his struggles become her own. Add to the mix a little baby they agree to deliver to an aunt along the way and the stage is set.

I enjoyed seeing returning characters in this series. And the tension between Samuel and Abigail led to interesting dialogue. I'm glad that Samuel and Abigail didn't let the opinions of others influence what they did with their lives. The ending was slightly abrupt but it made sense. I just didn't see it coming - maybe that is the mark of great surprise ending! Thank you Michelle for another great book in the series. I look forward to reading more from this author.

This is a good story with lots of action. Abby is on her way to get married to Sir Jonathan. Her father and step mother want to get rid of her so they sent her away. Alone without protection. Along the way she is deserted by her maid, waylaid by highway men, and given the responsibility of delivering a baby to her aunt. She is rescued by Samuel Thatcher. With a little persuasion he hires on as guardian for Abby. Their journey is very interesting. This isn't a high suspense book. But has lots of adventure. I recommend this book.

Thank you net galley for the advance reader copy of the novel. I enjoyed this historical fiction set in Regency era England. This story was a slow build of clean romance through out an adventure filled carriage journey. I was cheering for Abby and Samuel the whole time! I read this without any trouble of keeping up with characters or plot despite not having read any of the previous books. I will say I kept hoping that sir Jonathan was connected to the highway man but alas that didn't happen. Great read that kept me up late into the night to finish!

The Noble Guardian by Michelle Griep is another hit story of history, intrigue and romance.
Captain Samuel Thatcher is busy chasing the highway men and keeping the roadways safe for travelers when he meets up with strong willed Abigail Gilbert. He tries to encourage her to go back home but she is determined to travel on. She is traveling across the country to marry a baronet she has only met once. Her maid abandons her yet she is determined to travel on alone. Samuel eventually becomes her hired guardian but with the thieves out for revenge will they survive to end of her journey?
I loved this book! Another hit for sure! Samuel is a wonderful hero who speaks to the heart of readers. Abby is a feisty woman who definitely has a mind of her own. There is plenty of danger, action, twists and turns and romance in this story to keep the reader turning pages. You never know what will happen next and this continues to the last page when all the loose ends are tied up in a beautiful bow. Michelle Griep’s unique style of bringing history to life always amazes me and keep me up late reading more. I give this book 5 of 5 stars. This is one you do not want to miss.

This entire series from Michelle Griep was captivating! Lots of drama, a bit heavy but so good and she definitely keeps readers on the edge of their seats. If you like mystery, intrigue, romance, and some great faith moments thrown in, this book (and entire series) is great. I found myself loving the stories, but also highlighting some of the faith moments as well in my ereader. Very convicting, challenging, and entertaining all rolled into one.

I am always amazed at the way Michelle Griep can completely sweep me up in a story and make me feel as if I’ve actually been in the setting she’s chosen as the backdrop to her story. Her characters have such depth to them. From the very first page, I felt Abigail’s emotion of wanting to find true love and acceptance into a family, and felt the sting of rejection from her own parents. Samuel Thatcher is the almost-ideal hero throughout this story. “Noble” is certainly the word that describes him, and he proves time and again that he’s a person Abigail can completely trust. He’s a man of faith, and he has to draw strength from that as he faces a threat that can come at him silently from almost any direction. As Abigail also faces uncertainty and adversity all throughout this story, she finds that the “true love” and acceptance she’s really needing can only come from God.

This is a well-researched book and the author incorporates those details to give this story an authentic feel. Michelle Griep is master at writing Regency mystery/ suspense. This is a clean story and there’s no foul language or inappropriate scenes to mar the reading. I have loved this “Bow Street Runner” series. Even if you haven’t read the other books in this series, you can enjoy this one on its own. can’t wait to see where the author takes us in her next series.

The Noble Guardian is a stirring conclusion to Michelle Griep’s Bow Street Runners Trilogy. I love the characters that she created - sweet but strong, Abigail Gilbert and stern but fiercely committed, Samuel Thatcher. Throw a baby in the midst and you have a sweet story that will keep you turning pages in order to take the journey across the heath with this trio. You won't be disappointed.

The Noble Guardian is a great conclusion to this series. I loved this book! In this book, the reader meets Abigail. Abigail has been raised by her father and stepmother. Her stepmother dislikes her immensely. They have found someone who wants to marry her and send her to marry him. She is excited to start out on this journey and get away from her family. She quickly falls into danger and realizes maybe this is going to be harder than she thinks. Samuel is a lawman and he comes to Abigail’s aid. He agrees to help get her to her next stop and find someone who can help her to her betrothed. Samuel has his own problems with a gang who is after him. As more problems occur, Samuel ends up taking Abigail himself. Their journey is long and eventful. I highly recommend this book and promise you will not be disappointed! If you enjoy historical Christian fiction, this book is for you!

This is a series that just got better and better with each successive book! I enjoyed the others, but this story I loved! One element I liked better here was that although it's still a romance with some wonderful moments, it felt less gushy overall.

We met Thatcher in a previous book, and he was gruff and hard but he also added some humor to the story. He's weary of the grim side of life he faces every day as a bow street runner, and of being constantly on the move, never making one place a home, but now he's beginning to rethink his dream of living a solitary life on a piece of land with only his horse for company.

Abigail Gilbert has had a hard and unhappy childhood and feels like happiness and a sense of belonging is finally within her reach, if she can get to where her betrothed awaits. Her uncaring family sends her off across the country with only a maid for a companion even though it's a long, dangerous journey. And so the story begins.

It's a compelling story that feels a little like a fairytale, in a good way, and certainly doesn't end up quite as you'd expect, but again in a good way. The wrap up of the many details doesn't feel rushed but well done. And again, I love how Michelle Griep paints the picture of grace and salvation. It's explained beautifully and I pray that these stories will speak to people who need to hear God's love beautifully explained.

I received this book from Barbour Publishing and Netgalley for the purpose of an honest review. My opinion is my own.

The Noble Guardian by Michelle Griep is the third book in the Bow Street Runners trilogy. It's a great read full of action, adventure and romance. When Abby sets out on a cross-country journey to marry a man of high esteem. She never expects to have her life threaten by highway men. She hires Samuel Thatcher to get her to new future, not knowing the danger they will be in. Many surprises along the way. An exciting story with some interesting plot twists. I love Michelle's writing. She keeps you turning the pages to see what will happen next. A wonderful conclusion to this series. Looking forward to her next book.

When I think of a road trip novel, I think contemporary. But Michelle Griep busted all of those notions with this 19th c. English novel of a gruff horse patrol captain guarding a lady and a baby (neither of whom belong to him) from inn to inn across dangerous countryside.

Despite the fact that Captain Thatcher is escorting Miss Gilbert to the manor of her betrothed, as you'd expect, they grow to care for one another as they survive discomfort and peril.

All together an enjoyable read with a satisfying ending! I have not yet read the previous two books in the series, and this one can stand alone quite nicely.

A quick moving, "can't put it down" conclusion to an excellent regency series. Abby grabbed my heart from the very beginning as a humble, genuine, heroine. Started to remind me of Cinderella. Don't let her humility fool you though; she's a spitfire who is perfectly capable of standing up for herself. Enter Samuel in one of my favorite introductory scenes. From that point on, a delightful push and pull relationship builds. Abby’s ability to see the best in people breaks down the rough and tough exterior of Samuel and I couldn’t help but cheer them on, even knowing she was betrothed to another. I enjoyed the glimpses at previous characters and enjoyed that the focus truly remained on Abby and Samuel. Michelle Griep is a master at Regency stories and perfectly blends romance and intrigue in this tale.

A Christian regency romance with Cinderella overtones!

I really enjoyed this storyline. Abigail Gilbert, daughter of a wealthy merchant from a previous marriage, spurned and bullied by her stepmother, is to begin a new life as the wife of a handsome Baron. Her dreams are finally coming true. Abby's head is full of the wonderful life she will have with her husband-to-be. After all, to offer for her hand after one meeting surely must mean the Baron is in love with her? Sigh! All her dreams will surely come true! The fact that her stepmother sends her off with no company but her maid and the driver, on a trip of many days through sparse and dangerous countryside did seem harsh, but Abigail was not to be deterred.
A group of horse patrol Bow Street runners, under Captain Samuel Thatcher, have been pursuing a gang of cut throat highwaymen with a vicious leader, Shankhart Robbins, operating on Hounslow Heath.
Samuel and Abby cross paths on the Heath when Samuel rescues Abby from an attack by part of Shankhart's gang.
Samuel pondered, "Who in their right mind had sent them out on their own? Allowed them to travel without a manservant? Without any kind of protection whatsoever?" A very good question. Why had neither her family or the Baron not seen to her safety?
After some tense happenings, Samuel agrees to act as a Guardian for the rest of Abbey's journey to the home of her betrothed. Of course the plot becomes far more complex and both Abby and Samuel are severely tested along the way by the situations they meet.
Abby's journey really becomes a pilgrimage for them both, filled with challenges, misunderstandings, and danger, supplemented by moments of empathy, self realization, enlightenment and grace.
Both lead characters are strong people, survivors, already tested by their pasts. They are both equally fascinating, having been trained up in the school of hard knocks and disillusionment.
I was quite comfortable with the way Abby and Samuel's faith was integrated into the plot. I felt their beliefs were appropriately portrayed without being preachy and without being imposed over the story line. All flowed quite naturally out of the events they experienced.
I enjoyed this novel enough to decide to read previous novels in this series.

If you haven't read any of the novels in the Bow Street Runners series, you are in for a treat! I wasn't sure if I could read each as a stand alone, so I started at book one an began a thrilling ride of romance and adventure with these courageous Runners. I'm having a difficult time picking a favorite...Brentwood's Ward and The Noble Guardian were slightly more enjoyable for me than The Innkeeper's Daughter. I discovered Michelle Griep while reading the Daughter's of the Mayflower series and am I ever glad that I did! I have read many of her novels since then and she has quickly become an author I am confident will tell me a fantastic story I will have a hard time putting down. The Noble Guardian did have me reading long into the night, well past the time I should have put the story down. I really enjoyed the main characters and the exciting plot and thought Samuel was a swoon-worthy hero. I would recommend the entire Bow Street series to those who enjoy historical romance.

The Noble Guardian will be available for purchase from your local or online book retailer June 1, 2019.

The Noble Guardian by Michelle Griep follows a young woman who is neglected by her family as she makes her way across the country, towards her new husband who she has dances with once. However, the road is quite perilous with highwayman, and one handsome rugged lawman comes to her aid... and more trouble arises. Wink wink. Ok, there is VERY real trouble, but tbh I lived for this very slow burn romance. It seems to me Michelle Griep’s writing grows with each novel. Not that her first novels are bad, far from it, but they’re just getting better! This time, there were many suprises for me, you think you know how the plot will go but there are some twists and turns that leave you guessing!

Also, the characters were phenomenol. Abby struggles with her past of mental abuse and if she believes in God after what she’s been through. She is very feisty and when she set her mind to something, she’ll do everything to achieve it. She has set a higher goal for herself, to be happy, to be self sufficient, which is what drives her through most of the books. To leave things in God’s hand is a bit of a struggle for her, though she accepts it more than our rugged lawman Samuel. He is weary of his job and wants to find peace. Until he finds Abby... I love how he takes her seriously and sees her not as a feeble woman, but as a person. And the main antagonist is truly very creepy! There are other creeps though that would be a spoiler, but it’s very well done. And there’s a little girl that is just extremely cute and I want to cuddle her (see, there’s a suprise you wouldn’t expect already lol!).

All in all, it is a very well written historical romance, with lots of action and feels. I very much enjoyed reading it and I suspect I will be rereading it soon in final version when it comes out (that cover is so gorgeous!!). The only thing I disliked is that the characters heard the voice of God a few times, I really dislike when that happens but it was only like 3 times so I can live with it lol!

I received a free ebook from netgalley (thanks sooo much!) in exchange for an honest opinion.

Highwaymen and Bow Street Runners. Two historical groups of people that I had heard of but didn't know much about.  Now, after reading The Noble Guardian by Michelle Griep, I know quite a bit more on the subjects thanks to her inclusion of both in the book.  I didn't realize the fact until after I read the book , but The Noble Guardian is the third book in the Bow Street Runners Trilogy. I didn't feel that I missed anything by starting with the third until I realized it was the third. Now, I'm wondering about the stories told previously so I'll definitely be adding the first to books to my list of books to read.  The historical details included in the book were fascinating, and as I mentioned before, helped me to learn about subjects that I truly knew very little about. The romance, the adventure, the hint of mystery-- all these combined to form an enjoyable book to read. However, I did not enjoy the violent descriptions. I am very sensitive to violence and felt that some of the descriptions were a little too intense for me. However, that is just my opinion. If you are not so sensitive to violence, then you probably would be perfectly fine with the descriptions.

I recommend this book for those who enjoy historical fiction, romances, and adventure.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Abigail Gilbert’s life has been so trying that she is excited to leave her family behind and go off to marry a veritable stranger. The bullying from her family has made her tough and that toughness serves her well as she travels across the country to her intended. She’s an intriguing mix of hopefulness and tender toughness.
Samuel Thatcher is a fascinating man. He has seen so much evil as he has tracked down thieves and murderers yet he has a soft spot for a woman who can’t help but attract trouble and a young child. He is a self-less servant and a noble guardian.
This book concludes the Bow Street Runners Trilogy but it can easily be read as a stand-alone. The book has a nice pace and flow to it. It is peppered throughout with rich imagery. “Apparently this grand and glorious headache had unpacked its bags and moved in, settling for a lengthy stay no matter what she did to evict it” (location 1516). I enjoyed it and learned a lot about highwaymen, runners, and coaching inns. I’d recommend it.
Thank you to Barbour Publishing for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Wow! What a ride, I loved this book! I have enjoyed every one of Michelle Griep's stories, but this was (in my opinion) the best in the bowstreet runner series!
I loved how much action and danger the characters had to dodge, it felt like I was watching a movie! Samuel was a great character, bruised by a past, but faithful to his oath, he made a great good guy!
Abby was sharp and spunky, and had her own insecurities, she grew over the course of the book and I enjoyed watching it!

This book comes in to a close second to Captive Heart as my favorite from this author.
Recommended for anyone who wants a fast paced historical romance with a lot of action!

Michelle Griep’s The Noble Guardian is a fascinating, and very well done, Regency novel.

This is the first of Ms. Griep’s books that I have had the pleasure of reading, and I think I may have found a new favorite—The characters were intriguing and dynamic, the storyline was seamless and multi-faceted, and the themes were powerful and hopeful!

Samuel Thatcher is a hardened man. After years of bringing the worst of humanity to justice, he is beginning to lose faith. But beneath the hard shell and the glowering stares, there is a man of strength and goodness, kindness, and stubbornness!

And Abigail Gilbert—a woman whose life, though one of misery and hardship, has taught her to find hope in all circumstances, and seek for the best in others—including the rough Captain Thatcher.

But what happens when life doesn’t go as planned, and Abby’s carefully constructed future begins to shatter?

These two wounded souls must fight for each other, and for hope, as they travel the length of England in a perilous and mishap-laden journey. The author did a fantastic job creating a thrilling story full of faith and love! I also enjoyed learning a bit more along the way about the Bow Street “Runners”—a group of people I had never heard of before this book! ❤️

Four stars for a wonderful, entertaining, romantic read!!

In 1815 England travel was by chaise with a driver and usually a second man whose job was to watch for and protect from highwaymen. Abigail Gilbert is sent away from her home alone, to be married to a man she has met just once. What follows is seemingly endless perils, making one wonder if she will safely reach her destination. Along the way, her manages to hire horse patrol captain Samuel Thatcher. Unfortunately the danger doesn’t end with her new guardian. Throw a twist into the trip and suddenly he has even more to protect. Advice from an old farmer - ‘Yer not God, so quit tryin’ to be’ encourages Samuel to realize that he is not alone in his protection duties! Between illness, strong storms and death, this incredible book was impossible to put down. The nail-biting action starts at the beginning and continues right to the end. You don’t want to miss this 3rd book in the Bow Street Runners series!

As always Michelle Griep gives us a story evenly balanced with everything a reader can want. History, researched impeccably. Connections to past books in the series, with characters so well developed, they feel like friends. Plot so thick you keep turning the pages, hoping that everything will work out.

With both Abby & Samuel you have two people - instantly likable, souls so desperately in need of companionship and love, yet needing to understand the great love of a God, who unconditionally loves.

So many aspects of this story that I loved. This author is a master storyteller.

Thanks to Netgalley for the eARC. This is my honest review.

This was a great read! It was the conclusion of a series called Bow Street Runners Trilogy. I have missed one of this trilogy but they are individually wonderful books.

As Abby takes off across England to her forthcoming marriage to a man she barely knows, danger lurks at every corner in her travels. She hires Captain Samuel Thatcher as a guardian. Their adventures are many. It's such a page turner book! Yes, you won't want to put this one down.

And what happens with the marriage? You will definitely need to read every last page! This book is too good to put down.

Michelle Griep did it again! I enjoyed her last book, "Ladies of Intrigue," and I appreciate the work and detail she puts into her novels, set in Victorian times. "The Noble Guardian" is another engrossing read, filled with danger, love in the strangest of places, an unexpected child to transport and a woman running from the fractured family who raised her. I didn't realize this book was #3 in a series, as I got to read it thanks to #NetGalley, but I will be reading the preceding books after this!

Griep always gives the reader relatable characters that interact in ways that you might not expect. This novel is no exception, as Abby is a woman who is betrothed to a wealthy baronet of her father's choice, headed across the heaths of England to meet him, along with her maid. As the trip progresses, Abby's maid deserts her, and she is forced to pay for a postillion and a guardian to protect her over the harrowing journey-- one fraught with thieves and highwaymen ready to rob an unsuspecting woman.

Thankfully, she encounters Samuel, a Bow Street Runner, who begins the journey with Abby after she is physically attacked by a lecherous man claiming to be a guardian. He is not a minute too soon. Samuel knows Abby will never make it to her intended baronet, Sir Jonathan, if he does not help her. The Bow Street Runner's primary goals were to keep the roads within 60 miles of London safe for the travelers, and Samuel takes his job as a magistrate serious. He is, in fact, a good man, which Abby is not used to.

Abby enters into this agreement with the intent of it being a means to an end, but as Emma, a child with no mother, is introduced into the mix, the dynamics of the relationship between Samuel and Abby begins to change. She is thrust into the motherly role and all that it entails, including a sickness that could threaten all their lives. Samuel also has a target on his back from some especially dangerous highwaymen who would rather see him dead, making Abby and Emma precious cargo he must also protect.

The characters are well developed and the reader can't help but fall in love with each of them in their own way. Abby grows and changes throughout the story, finding strength she didn't know she had, and Samuel is working towards protecting his charges and doing what is right, both in the eyes of the law and the eyes of God. Can this ragtag group of people make it to their final destinations?
Will Abby choose her dashing baronet, or the noble guardian who has protected both her and baby Emma all the way to their awaiting new lives? Does Abby choose to trust a family who never really treated her well or a stranger willing to put himself in harm's way for her safety and welfare?

"The Noble Guardian" is so well done. Griep is an author whose work is excellent and well researched. She doesn't write in a way that lets the reader think she's neglected her homework, often leaving detailed explanations of points in history she chooses to highlight in her books at the conclusion. I can't get enough of her stories! Many thanks to #NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book. All opinions are my own and I was not required to leave a review. If you enjoy Victorian novels with a dash of romance and adventure, do not miss Griep's work!

This BOOK!
This AUTHOR!
Can I possibly give this book 100 stars? No, only 5? Well it deserves 100+ stars.
The last book in the Bow Street Runners series, I am sorry to see it end.
I have read the other books in the series but this does work well as a stand alone as some back story is shared in books 2 and 3.
I could not turn the pages fast enough in this book, it was love at first sentence for me.
I was thoroughly engrossed in the story!
Southampton, England 1815 is the setting we find ourselves in at the start of the book.
I knew Samuel Thatcher had a story to be told when I encountered him in previous books and oh what a story it is. We meet cutthroats, scumbags, thieves, liars and the likes of those you'd never want to encounter in a dark alley if you had the misfortune to wander there.
This is by far Michelle Greip's best book to date. She is a bold writer not afraid to show a little dirt in her books to make it realistic, very realistic. We encounter mud, blood, stinking clouts and spilled stew, can't forget that spilled stew in the coaching inn. The majority of the book takes place with "Captain" escorting Abigail Gilbert to her Sir Johnathon Aberley baronet. An arranged marriage is to take place. Oh my what a wild and at times dangerous adventure is to be had along the way.
A baby who stole my heart figures into this book as well. Feeling he owes his friend to deliver the baby to her Aunt, this little mischief maker is quite the charmer as she babbles away and takes her first steps. The romance is there but it's subtle, we are not overwhelmed with it as the book concentrates on the adventure but you can feel the sizzle burning in the background.
Will that be all for the handsome and courageous noble guardian when he arrives at the mansion of her intended badly wounded as he delivers her there?
I so loved this book and didn't want it to end.

Michelle Griep’s latest, The Noble Guardian, is a resounding conclusion to her Bow Street Runner’s series. As I journeyed through the books in this set, I found that each one was an improvement on the last. Many series seem to dwindle with each installment – but not in this case!

From start to finish Griep engulfs her reader in the plight of Abigail and Samuel, each character trying to learn their way, face personal demons, and search for truth. Griep keeps up a steady pace, full of action, depth, and character development, which will resonate soundly with her readers.

I invite you to pick up this book, fall in love with the characters, and become part of their journey. You will not be disappointed.

Fantastic as usual for the author Michelle Griep! I have read several of her stories including the two other bow street runner stories Brentwoods Ward and The Innkeepers Daughter. Fun seeing the stories continue and both family's and happy endings multiply. The characters in this story were delightful and realistic. Their love slow and progressive, the danger giving suspense and depth to the story. Very interesting read, almost read it straight though in one sitting. I could hardly put it down! Highly recommend and will continue to look for the next no doubt wonderful story from this author!

This book is responsible for my lack of sleep that’s dragging me around this morning. Michelle Griep’s latest release (coming June 2019) is a gripping, page-turning, exciting reader experience.
The story finds us following the young Abigail Gilbert, through the countryside of Regency England. Having received an offer of marriage from a baronet, Abby is more than eager to leave the cruel treatment of her step-family behind and looks toward a future of love with the handsome man, though she’s only met him once.
Samuel Thatcher is counting the days he can leave the service of being a Bow Street Runner, patrolling the notorious and dangerous stretch of highway leading to London. He longs for a life of tranquility and farming the best feed horses can have on his own farm. He needs to finish his contract and extend it by 2 weeks to finally have enough money to see his dreams come true.
What he didn’t count on was rescuing Abigail Gilbert from danger. Tired of his job and the dark side of humanity, Samuel agrees to escort Abigail to her baronet because she has money – enough to buy his farm. Well, he offers to escort her only after his own life is threatened….
Yes, this is action packed and suspense holds the reader captive until the very end.
Things didn’t appear correct with Abby’s situation right from the get-go. She is naïve but a delightfully positive character (not the annoying kind). She dreams big and wants to be loved for who she is. She believes that her baronet will give her that…yet, when danger prevents Abby from arriving on time, not a peep is heard from her intended. She truly is alone in the world.
Samuel’s character is definitely rough on the outside but his heart turns soft for the one woman who seems to understand him. Little does he know, how well she understands his circumstances. He’s an alpha male, driven by anger, but there is hope for him as we see at the end of the story. I would feel safe having him escort me through dangerous territory, but I’m not sure I’d be willing to talk to him since his appearance is…less than friendly.
A reader needn’t have read the previous two books in the series to appreciate this story.

The Noble Guardian is a fantastic end to a fantastic series, The Bow Street Runners. I enjoyed this story from beginning to end and everything in between. The danger, the intrigue, the characters, and of course, the romance! I loved it all!

In this story, Abigail Gilbert is betrothed to a baronet and must travel quite a distance to get to him. After a few mishaps, she hires Samuel Thatcher to guard her on her journey. There relationship is quite fun. They have good banter, conversation, and chemistry. I really enjoyed them both as main characters. Abigail is a strong, loveable leading lady who just wants to be loved. Samuel is brooding and moody, but also reliable and a perfect hero. They work well together!

This is a great historical romance that is sure to please!

This is a wonderful Regency romance. The story is so well written that even though I received an arc copy to read and review, I bought my own copy to keep in my library.

Samuel Thatcher is a very cynical lawman who has grown weary of his job. He has lived a hard life chasing criminals and highwaymen. He had been saving his money to buy a piece of land and get out of the business and live a simple life farming. He had run away from his abusive father as a very young boy and had never had the ideal family life so many had. Not that he would ever find a woman to put up with him and his acerbic ways but he could live a solitary existence in peace.

Abigail Gilbert's father had remarried after her mother's death to a horrible woman who belittled and abused Abigail at every turn. Her two step-sisters were cut from the same cloth. Her marriage had been arranged by her father's to a baronet some distance away and she was finally on her way to become his wife. She dreamed of a forever kind of love; someone who would love her deeply. At the very beginning of her journey, she met Captain Samuel Thatcher, who came to her rescue. With reluctance, he agreed to be hired as her guardian. Their journey was a treacherous one with murderous highwaymen dogging them. Along the way, they gained a small traveling companion, as well. Would they arrive at their final destination and find that the result lived up to their dreams or would those dreams become nightmares? Was it possible for there to be a happy ending?

I absolutely couldn't put this book down and enjoyed reading ever last page. While there was danger and death and violence, there was no foul language and no detailed sex. I appreciated the author's ability to write an engaging story and one that held your attention without those things to detract from the wonderful story.

“Even half-dead, Samuel could tell a lot about a man by the way he handled three things: old age, trousers that wouldn’t stay up, and strangers.”

Ah, Michelle Griep. Such captivating Regency novels does she write. I have high expectations whenever I pick up this author’s book and she has never disappointed. This newest offering, which is book 3 in the Bow Street Runners series, will surely capture your heart and mind with a beautifully written plot and wonderfully engaging characters. Reading the first two books, Brentwood’s Ward and Innkeeper’s Daughter, prior to this book will enrich the enjoyment of the story and appreciation of the secondary characters, but is not absolutely necessary. With clever and witty prose and dialogue, a dash of danger and suspense, several plot twists, a damsel in distress, and a rugged and protective but emotionally broken hero, the story has every ingredient blended perfectly together to create a delectable treat you won’t be able to put down.

Samuel is a wearied lawman who can only see the darkness and evil in his fellow man and desperately wants to leave Bow Street for solitude on a farm. Yet his sense of justice, loyalty, and need to right the wrongs of others constantly pull him into danger. Abby is a woman whose only goal in life is to be loved and cherished. She leaves the home where she’s unwanted and sets out to marry a baronet but meets unexpected trouble with highwaymen and needs the protection that Samuel can provide. As Samuel reluctantly escorts Abby to her betrothed, they are threatened by a crazed gang of bandits bent on revenge and murder, loved by an adorable infant who isn’t related to either of them, crushed by witnessing the sorrow brought on by poverty and alcohol, and drawn irresistibly together.
It’s a memorable journey as Samuel and Abby both learn about faith, hope, and love.

The Noble Guardian is the third book in the Bow Street Runners series. This was a very sweet romance, but it was filled with a lot of adventure and heartache. Our noble guardian is Samuel Thatcher, who is hired by Abigail Gilbert to take her safely to meet her betrothed. She is traveling in a very treacherous territory alone. She is initially ambushed by a group of men who Samuel saves her from. It is then that she hires Samuel to protect her. Samuel is reluctant at first but after trying to find someone to escort her without success he ends of with the job.
I really enjoyed this story!! It had non-stop adventure and a romance that almost didn't happen due to certain circumstances. Both Abigail and Samuel where very likable and strong characters.
Highly recommended!!

Oh, I love this book! I could have easily devoured it in one sitting if life had not gotten in the way. Samuel Thatcher is definitely my favorite Bow Street Runner. I hated to see the series end but I can't wait to see what's next for Michelle Griep.

“Was it wicked to say goodbye with a smile? Wrong to feel happy about leaving one’s family behind?” - The Noble Guardian by Michelle Griep

From the back cover copy I anticipated disliking Abigail, the leading lady, at least in beginning, as she’s framed as someone who is living a privileged life. However, from the opening lines of Michelle Griep’s The Noble Guardian, I immediately felt empathy for Abigail instead. Experiencing a Cinderella-like situation at home, Abigail is excited her marriage and starting a new life in which she hopes she will be loved. Setting off across England at the height of the highwaymen robberies, she swiftly lands herself in mortal danger and in need of a guardian for the journey to her betrothed.

Jaded and broken by the horrors he’s endured both in war and in the fight against highwaymen, Samuel ends up being that guardian owing to circumstances outside his control. The validity of his prejudice against Abigail is tested each day he spends with her. Together they explore the meaning of family, love and the ingredients of a happy life. They wrestle with God’s role in the hurt and pain life has brought those around them and themselves.

The adventure itself is full of so many unexpected turns, danger, and humour, I read it straight through! I loved the ending, it couldn’t have been better done! It is a fantastic historical romance but it’s more than that, it’s a reminder of the hope God gives us no matter the storms we endure and the importance of loving one another.

It’s five out of five on the en-JOY-ment scale and highly recommended! Whilst the other books in the series are wonderful, it isn’t necessary to have read them so be sure to pick this one up!

This is by far the best book in this series. The action, suspense, and plot keep my heart racing and me reading throughout the entire book. It took everything in me to set the book down to go to sleep last night. This book had me hanging on to every word.

I think this was the first book I've read that the MC had the same name as me. I really liked Abigail's character. She had the spunk and wit that made this book very entertaining to read. Even though, I couldn't relate to her on some things that happened in her life, there were a few things that she goes through that I do understand. I really enjoyed seeing her character develop.

I also really liked Samuel's development. I remember reading about him in the Inn Keeper's Daughter.....I didn't know how I would like him as a main character. However, his true colors shown throughout this book and I loved his character!!

Baby Emma stole the show though! If we all are being honest though any time there is a baby, they always steal the show!!!

This book had me sitting in the edge of my seat from the beginning. The action started rather really in the book and has amazing pacing throughout the entire story. Ms. Griep's writing style is so lovely and what makes this book, and series so amazing. I don't think it would be the same series without her amazing writing skills.

Overall, I highly enjoyed this story and series!

My Review:

Genre: Historical, romance, fiction.

My Rating: 5 stars.

My Recommendation: 16 up for romance and slight violence.

My Favorite Character/s: Wow, well, I enjoyed getting to read about each of these characters and Samuel is my favorite with Emma and then followed by Abigail. Samuel may be my favorite male lead in the whole Trilogy, though seeing as I haven't read the first book I can not say that . . . Samuel was a character with a hard harsh "protective wall" that hid the real heart behind the character. And I loved him with little Emma. They're so cute!

My Verse for Samuel is John 15:19
If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. (King James Version.)

My Thoughts: This was a wonderful story that I read in one sitting one morning. (Skipping school . . . Eh, all right I wasn't skipping really, just putting it off.) Anyway, the opening was a little slow but it quickly got to the point I had to know what happened and that ending? Was. So. Sweet.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review and am truly happy to provide it!

If Michelle Griep wrote it, I want to read it. No questions asked. I first discovered her writing last year, and I’ve been hooked ever since. This is one author whose works I would read regardless of what they were about. “The Innkeeper’s Daughter” introduced me to the Bow Street Runners trilogy, and I was intrigued by the whimsical characters and the undeniable plot tension. I did not think that these details could be matched, but I was wrong. Michelle Griep does it again, and even better, in the trilogy’s conclusion!

Set in Regency England, “The Noble Guardian” turns a cross-country road trip into a breathtaking, spinetingling trek. What would seem to be a rather straightforward journey becomes a prolonged adventure with unrelenting suspense and a beautiful tapestry of faith unfolding throughout. The book cover alludes to this as well. At first glance, the commanding sight of Samuel Thatcher astride a horse catches the eye, but a closer look reveals a carriage enshrouded in a layer of fog. Indeed, within the story itself, circumstances are often not clear-cut, and neither are the characters themselves. The reader is challenged to view things from a different perspective and to learn along the way.

Griep excels in both scenic description and character development. Readers ride along in the cramped, bumpy carriage through rather desolate environs and with occasional stops at roadside inns. The issue of propriety and its importance with regard to a woman’s reputation is a point that is made evident, contrary though it may be to twenty-first-century sensibilities. The villains are ruthless and lend a continuous air of danger, while the protagonists have their own personal issues to work though. A scene at a country fair, reminiscent of a circus, adds some levity and offers a connection between Regency and contemporary society. The narrative progresses via the shared third-person omniscient viewpoint of Abigail (Abby) Gilbert and Captain Samuel Thatcher. Abby is naïve and yet she possesses amazing fortitude and a compassionate heart: “She’d learned long ago while enduring the hurts of her stepmother that only through prayer would she find peace.” Samuel has a jaded worldview shaped by his years as a lawman and culminating in his role of protector. Both experience an emotional faith journey that speaks across the centuries to the hearts of readers today, reminding all of us who “The Noble Guardian” truly is.

"Jaded" would be the word to describe Samuel Thatcher, Bow Street officer and Captain of the Horse Patrol. He's seen too much of the dark side of humanity, and wants nothing more than to leave the force and become a farmer. But standing between him and that goal is an evil gang of highwaymen and a lack of finances.

Abigail Gilbert finally has a chance to be free of her stepmother's scorn and abuse, and the family who never loved her. She is betrothed to a baronet whom she has only met once. Things are looking up, or so she believes. On her journey to wed, her carriage is attacked by highwaymen.

Captain Thatcher shows up just in time to save Abby, and she convinces him to escort her the rest of the way on her journey. The payment he will receive will at last give him the money he needs to buy his own land and leave the force for good. But highwaymen are hunting him. There's also the matter of a promise he made to an old friend, to safely bring the man's baby daughter to her aunt.

Thatcher is used to the gratitude of people he has rescued, and he never allows it to become anything more than that...but somehow Abby is different. She stubbornly and persistently looks beneath the dour surface of the Captain, and sees his compassionate heart. But she is promised to another...

I devoured this book, staying up far too late reading it. I couldn't put it down, and when it ended, I was sad that it was over. The prose was witty, the characters deep and real, and the author, Michelle Griep, made me really care about what happened to them. Samuel Thatcher was dour and jaded, but beneath that exterior he had a compassionate and loving heart. Abby was desperate to be a part of a loving family, and that desperation almost entangled her in a snare that looked lovely on the outside, but on the inside was empty and cold. Thank goodness that God had other plans, and that Abby and Samuel were open to his leading! This book had its nail-biting moments, unexpected twists, and a highly satisfactory ending. I loved this whole series so much, and it's a series that I would read again and again, which is saying a lot! I highly recommend The Noble Guardian, and the previous two books in the Bow Street trilogy as well.

A complimentary copy of this book was provided by Barbour Publishing through NetGalley. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Oh my heart! The Noble Guardian by Michelle Griep is the latest installment (and last if I’m not mistaken) of The Bow Street Runners series. Previously I said that The Innkeeper’s Daughter was my favorite of the series. Y’all this one blows that one out of the water! All the feels! My heart can’t take it. Samuel Thatcher’s and Abigail Gilbert’s story will stick with me for a long time.

Abigail Gilbert, or Abby for short, is leaving her home for her betrothed. Heading across England, through dangerous lands with naught but a maid and hired postillion. Abby is naive, kind, and an eternal optimist. Her life to this point had been bleak, but she chooses to look on the bright side. Hoping that the life awaiting her at the baronet’s is everything she could have asked for. My heart ached for Abby, and I couldn’t help but love her. She’s fiesty and determined when needed, yet kind and gentle the rest of the time. Honestly she’s a perfect match for the dour runner.

Samuel Thatcher is captain of a small band of horse runners who keep the roads safe from highwaymen. His current assignment is to find and take down Shankhart Robbins, a notorious thief and murderer. If you’ve read the previous books, you’ll remember him as the ghost contact Moore has with Ford in The Innkeeper’s Daughter. I was intrigued by him them, but I fell head over heels for the guy in this book. The captain is a devout man, but oh so bitter at the opening of the story. Several years have passed since the second book. He no longer finds joy in what he does as a runner and has been saving to buy his own small piece of land. This assignment is to be his last, his contract up in three weeks. When he rescues Miss Gilbert and inadvertently kills one of highwaymen associated with Robbins, the captain takes on the role as guardian of Abby, hoping to deliver her safely to the baronet. What he doesn’t count on is the woman herself.

Each book in this series has interwoven fact with fiction. That is the case here. The author creates Robbins and his gang after a real gang on a real highway in England. Everything else is fiction. Unlike the previous two books where the runners are investigating, Thatcher is protecting. He isn’t hunting anyone, instead he becomes the hunted. The added suspense of this plot made for a fast-paced read. I read it lightening quick, not wanting to sit it down. Abby and the captain’s chemistry is also off-the-charts compared to the last two couples. I love their banter and how they complement each other. Her hopeful nature balances his negative outlook on life.

Overall I really enjoyed The Noble Guardian. It is going down on my favorites list for sure! Abby and the captain tugged at my heartstrings that I’m not ashamed to admit left me in tears more than once. And little Emma….I didn’t mention her in the review but she was a perfect surprise! If you enjoy Christian romance or historical romance, I highly recommend you add this book to your reading list. While it is the third book in the series, it can be read as a standalone with minor spoilers to the previous books.

WOW! This is the third and final book in the series of Bow Street Runner novels. What a great finale! Action, suspense, romance or maybe not romance, highwaymen up to no good, a damsel in distress over and over again, and a Bow Street Runner who could make a girl swoon all make for an exciting, entertaining and memorable tale. I breathed a heavy delighted sigh when I finished this book. I fully intend to read the whole series again just in case I might have missed anything. Michelle Griep is one of my favorite authors.

This may be the best one yet... I loved it! Damsels in distress, dashing heroes, or was it distressing damsels? And brooding heroes? No matter! They are there to save each other. I thoroughly enjoyed the main characters, both Abby and Captain Thatcher. I loved seeing them challenge each other, in their goals and dreams as well as in their faith in God.
While bound together as travelers, alone on isolated roads and forced to be each other's only company, Abby and the Captain alternately infuriate and intrigue each other. They are both too stubborn for their own good. When a torrential storm forces them to seek shelter at a local farm house, God uses an unlikely couple, older in their faith and full of wisdom, to speak words of encouragement and insight to Abby and the Captain, potentially changing both of their lives forever.
Being an attorney for foster kids, the fact that they had to join forces to care for a beautiful baby girl from a broken family, and their struggle with the task of delivering her to strangers, truly grabbed my heart in this story. The whole story was just so real and relatable. On top of that, Michelle Griep always does her historical research, and I always feel like I come away from her stories having learned some new tidbit about that particular time period.
I loved seeing the characters from the other books in the Bow Street Runner series pop in. It was fun to see an update on them. I almost wish they'd been more involved in the story somehow.
I've said it a million times, but it still holds true, I will read anything Michelle Griep writes. I've yet to be disappointed. I recommend this series to anyone who loves historical fiction, Christian fiction, or sweet romance stories.

Hello! This book is absolutely fabulous! I read everything that Michelle Griep has written, and this is her best book by far. I love the Bow Street Runners heroes she has created; Samuel is the most swoonworthy, the most noble and every other superlative. The writing is superb, and the chemistry between hero and heroine is lovely. The dialogue, scenery and plot pull one in and never let go. Simply perfect! :)

I have been waiting for Samual’s story ever since he first showed up in a previous book, all quiet and mysterious. His story kept me flipping the pages (digitally) late into the night. Abby was a sweet yet spunky heroine that I was rooting for all along. The story took a few twists and turns that I did not see coming and stayed fresh and interesting. There was not as much mystery in this book as the others in this series, in my opinion, but I actually really liked how it was done. There was still danger and other story lines that kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next. I really enjoyed this conclusion to the series and rate it 4.5.

Christian Historical Romance is one of my favorite genre. Author Michelle Griep has written a compelling book about Regency England that had me on the edge of my seat turning pages as fast as I could read them. This is Book Three and the conclusion to her Bow Street Runners Series. If you haven’t read the first two, this can be read as a stand alone.

The Noble Guardian was a phenomenal book. My interest was immediately piqued within the first few pages. This is the tale of Abigail (Abby) Gilbert, a lovely character. I loved her! She is feisty, sweet, considerate, and caring although a bit naive. It is so easy to connect with her. I wanted to have a pot of tea with her and ask her so many questions!

It also is the story of tall, dark, and handsome broody Captain Samuel Thatcher. “Captain” is in the horse patrol and has seen more than his share of bad things and people. He is protective and loyal. He and Abby have chemistry and tension that really make the book fun to read.

All characters are well described and easy to imagine. There is a variety of secondary ones and some were just delightful. Baby Emma provided some giggles and heartfelt moments. The kitchen ladies were all different and fun.

There were many things I learned from this novel which is something I hope for in every book. I also want to know it is a Christian novel without having to search for it. There was no question on this one. The faith theme is heavily woven throughout the book. I particularly enjoyed watching Abby’s faith journey.

This book has so much to offer. Mystery, action, inspiration, romance, history and intrigue are all within this exciting story. The author has included historical notes at the end. I highly recommend this novel and rate it 5 stars.

Michelle Griep has another winner with The Noble Guardian. When I see her name on a new book, I eagerly get a copy and start reading. I was not disappointed with this third book in The Bow Street Runners series set in England during the early 1800s. Adventure, danger, heartache, grief, and of course, romance—The Noble Guardian has it all. On her way to her arranged marriage to a pretty much unknown baronet, the persistent and perceptive Abigail hires Samuel to be her protector. Samuel is a man bound and determined to retire from being a lawman and he is haunted by the past. The story is action-packed—Samuel had been on some hair raising journeys but this one was figuring up to beat them all with attacks from highwaymen, broken carriages, runaway horses, and a sassy young miss to boot. The characters are strong and vibrant and are realistic—either likable, relatable, or despicable. Abigail and Samuel are especially captivating and then there is Emma, a youngling that made an indelible mark on Abigail’s heart and will touch the reader’s heart as well. Griep has a nice style of writing and kept my interest throughout the entire book with descriptive prose that made me feel as though I was right there in the scenes with the characters and dialogue that flows seamlessly without sounding forced. I liked how the author revealed Samuel’s past layer by layer throughout the story and also how faith in God was woven into Abigail and Samuel’s stories. Having come from a Cindereallesque home life, Abigail is looking for happiness in a life with her handsome fiancé only to realize that true happiness is found in knowing she is loved and cared for by her Heavenly Father. As the danger-filled journey continues Abby begins to wonder what it would be like to be loved by this untamed lawman and Samuel wonders if she would ever take a chance on a rugged life with a very broken man. But there’s the baronet to consider…Don’t miss this riveting book—I read it in one sitting as I didn’t want to put it down.

Abigail “Abby” Gilbert hopes to one day marry “the love of her life.” She believes her chance is at hand when her cruel stepmother tosses her out, along with her maid, telling her to go to Sir Jonathan at Brakewell Hall. Even though her father arranged the marriage, Abby believed the marriage was one of love and not for money or convenience.

Captain Samuel Thatcher, requisitioned to protect travelers from highwaymen, doesn’t need to care for someone he initially believed to be an aristocratic, head in the clouds girl. However, circumstances dictate otherwise!

Griep integrates historical characters under a fictional umbrella, creating a suspenseful, hair-raising escapade for our hero and heroine. Also, she seamlessly blends her faith, illustrated through the main characters, into the story naturally and logically.

I enjoy all of Michelle Griep’s novels, and this one, like the others in the trilogy, along with her other books, didn’t disappoint!

The Bow Street Runners Trilogy concludes with The Noble Guardian by Michelle Griep.

I received the book from NetGalley through Celebrate Lit. However, I was under no obligation to post a review.

A book that will knock you off your feet! Another well-written masterpiece filled with intrigue, romance, and suspense from Michelle Griep, one of my favorite authors. Her writing skills are superb. There was one sad part that tore at my heart-strings in chapter twenty-two, when Samuel Thatcher, a hero indeed, had to make a decision that practically broke his heart, and made Abigail Gilbert run out of the house.

As our story opens Abigail starts out happy and contented, but soon trouble heads her way, in bunches, as she heads out to meat her beloved. What will fate bring her in the end? This Book, THE NOBLE GUARDIAN, left a deep impact on me. There were parts that made me laugh, and some that made me so sad, I felt like crying. A beautiful book. I was taken on a journey that will stay with me for a long time. Even the cover was beautifully made. To me this book deserves five stars. I recommend this book to every person who desires a little romance in their lives.

This is the third book in the Bow Street Runners series, however, each book stands alone with only minimal cross-over in the characters. You could read this book without starting at the beginning of the series.

I liked all three books in the series, although, I found them each quite different while all containing themes of intrigue and justice, with a bit of romance. For my part, I thought that The Noble Guardian had a lighter readability to it than the previous books. Perhaps it was also the way cynicism was challenged with genuine care and the discovery of what love actually is, but this story left me more encouraged that I expected based on the previous books. Or perhaps it was that they were on the move throughout the story. There was a clear hero, a clear villain and an (almost) epic journey. All favorable elements in my opinion.

I enjoyed the character development, though I was surprised how long it took Abby to re-frame her thinking to what seemed obvious to me. Then again, isn’t that life – none of us change overnight.

I appreciate that Griep writes real characters who have real beliefs. In her writing you will often see a character with a misunderstanding of God and the world, because that is reality. You also have the chance to see those thoughts challenged in the story, but the book never preaches and sometimes doesn’t even make it clear when the character is misled. I actually appreciate that in a novel, but I do understand that it can make some people uncomfortable so you might consider if that matters to you.

All in all, it was absolutely a story worth reading.

I received a free digital copy of this book for review in exchange for my honest opinion.

The Noble Guardian by Michelle Griep is a FANTASTIC page-turner. I loved every minute of this book. The settings are vivid, the characters are tremendously endearing, and the action is non-stop. I truly could not put this book down!

Watch out ladies, Samuel Thatcher has arrived, and what a swoon-worthy hero he is! Nothing is sexier than a man who does all he mentally and physically can to protect others. Everyone knows Ephesians 5:25: Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her. In The Noble Guardian, Samuel is Ephesians 5:25 personified. He literally puts his life on the line for others day in and day out. Watching Samuel do all he could to protect Abby and sweet little Emma truly made my heartstrings zing!

Both Abby and Samuel make reference to Esther 4:14 (ESV): For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this? At different moments in the story, Abby and Samuel ponder this question that Mordecai poses to Esther. Have Abby’s and Samuel’s paths crossed because of God’s Will? I fully believe that God purposely puts people into our paths for a reason. Some of these divine appointments are obvious — we know why our husbands, wives, children, co-workers, and friends meet us on our paths daily. But what about the strangers we come across every day? The man you pass on the sidewalk, the mail carrier you said hello to as she dropped off your mail, the kid you saw in the aisle at the grocery store — are these people who randomly happened to cross your path, or did God put them in your path for a reason? Abby and Samuel have plans. They really work very hard to achieve their plans, but the more they spend time together, the more they struggle with the paths they thought they were supposed to travel. Did God put them together for a purpose? The fun in this story is breathlessly waiting for both of them to realize God’s true purpose for their meeting. God does not bring them together in a conventional way, but God’s purpose is perfect no matter what. And what a great reminder for me — God’s purpose truly is perfect no matter what!

The Noble Guardian is an excellent story. I had so much fun reading this book. If you are looking for a novel full of edge-of-your-seat adventure, well written and endearing characters, and timely themes then I highly recommend The Noble Guardian.

I received a review copy of this novel in eBook form from the author via NetGalley and Celebrate Lit. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I really liked this book! I liked the main characters, which is huge, because they are the focus of the story! While it does begin with the tired idea of the mean stepmother shunning the only daughter of her new wealthy husband, it doesn't dwell there long. That part of the story sets up the background, and then we move on to other issues.

Abby is a strong woman without being obnoxious about it. She doesn't actually know how strong she can be, because her stepmother wouldn't allow her to show it- not in how she reacted to persecution, not in asserting her opinions on things, and certainly not in choosing the path of her own future.

As the story unfolds, we see Abby take charge of her life, and the life of an unexpected traveling companion. The developing love story between the captain and Abby was very sweet. I enjoyed seeing them interact, and the conflict between them wasn't do drawn out through a simple misunderstanding blown out of proportion like I've seen in so many other novels. I appreciated the author making them human.

There were times when Abby had arrived at her destination that I thought she was too naive, especially for growing up in a home where her stepmother was so wicked toward her. Her interaction with the baronet made me cringe and wish she would have punched him.

While it has been less than other books I've recently read, there is a bit of descriptive romantic language that goes beyond what I am comfortable with reading in a Christian novel. I personally do not need to know every detail of how every part of a person is feeling when they experience their first kiss with a person they've admired for a long time.

I do admit to skimming through the epilogue to get to the end of the book. The main story was over, and things had been resolved well. Unless it is the last book of a long series, I am not a fan of epilogues. This was no exception.

I would definitely look for more books by this author, and I would read another in this same series if it followed the characters into their future. Wonderful story!

I love a Michelle Griep book and this one did not disappoint. From the opening pages we are thrown into Abby’s heartbreak. I couldn’t help be sense even more heartbreak and disappointment in her future. Too many things didn’t add up and seemed very suspicious.

Samuel is a wonderful hero, someone I wouldn’t mind coming to save the day for me. But Abby doesn’t trust him at first but she soon reaches a point where so has no choice but to trust him.

Adventure and danger await them but you’ll have to read the book for yourself to see what that is exactly.

Starting this book, I didn't realize it was a part of a series. That being said, I had no problems with the story, in fact, I loved it. Abigail is a strong, determined, spitfire of a woman that I loved immediately. Her past is sad but she is determined for her future to be better. Samuel is a hero, possibly a reluctant one, but a hero all the same.

The interaction between these two characters was great fun to watch. The author did a wonderful job mixing historical, suspense, romance, and faith in the book. The book was good from start to finish. I felt a connection to these characters and couldn't wait to see how everything turned out for them.

It was a 5/5 for me. I plan to go back and read the previous books by this author.

Abigail Gilbert, who has much in common with Cinderella, is unceremoniously sent off to be married with only a lady’s maid for company. It’s a long trip over dangerous roads and the wicked stepmother could not spare a manservant for protection. One wonders if perhaps she hoped Abby would never make it to her destination safely…but that is not the case. Abby does make it to her fiancé’s ancestral home but is during the course of the travel when Abby comes into her own as a woman.

Abby manages to hire Samuel Thatcher, a Bow Street Runner so world-weary he is counting the days, and coins, until he can retire to a quiet life of farming. Abby has the coin and, despite himself, Samuel agrees to accompany her. Along the way, the pair acquire a baby to transport, a criminal actively seeking them, and mutual feelings for each other. It is quite the trip – lots of action and personal growth occur. I really enjoyed how well-written the story is, it kept me engaged throughout. I loved how the author developed the characters, and how persistent Abby is in pursuit of the things she wants – but always well-mannered and a lady.

I give this book 4.5/5 stars as I loved the story, the characters, and how it all developed and coalesced into a great read. I’m not generally a fan of the Christian bent to the story, but it was not in your face annoying but rather supported the story and was current with the times of the story. Despite their best attempts, Abby and Samuel are drawn to each other, and we are drawn to keep turning the pages to find out what will happen.

Loved the story of Abigail and Samuel. He is traveling with her to keep her safe while she is going to her future husband. A lot of danger along the way. Before being hired to travel with her he had found a baby. So they have Emma to care for also.

I love reading historical books. This one is set in early 1800. Things were different but feelings and concerns are the same. How to get from one place to another. How to determine what was wrong and how to treat it.

Loved how both the characters cared so much for the baby. How much they bonded. Read the book to see if they all get to stay together.

I received an advanced copy of the book from the publisher through Celebrate Lit. I was not required to write a positive review. This is my own opinion.

I loved this one! I have read the other books in the trilogy, but you can definitely read this book as a standalone.

Abby Gilbert leaves her tumultuous life at home on journey to her intended's house for her wedding. However, on the way to marry a man she has only met once, she runs into danger and realizes that she needs protection. As it just so happens, the only person that is suitable to offer protection is the mysterious and alluring Captain Samuel Thatcher.

This book combines a captivating plot with a beautiful romance. Abby and Captain Thatcher begin as strangers who can barely tolerate each other, progress to a tentative friendship, and finally form a strong relationship. I loved the romance in this book because it evolved slowly, and the characters became friends first. A romantic relationship has to have a strong foundation, and Abby and Samuel definitely have that.

I had been waiting for this book for a while, and I was not disappointed! I could not put this book down!

This one gives you all the romantic, swoon worthy sighs mixed with witty and refreshing dialogue between two wonderfully flawed and hard headed characters! Samuel faces danger every day and it is all he can do to keep Abby out of it and keep her safe. Abby just wants her happy ever after! Along the way so much danger abounds and throw in a little surprise! A wonderfully deep and page turning story. I loved this!

WOW!! This is my first book by Michelle Griep, but it won't be my last. It's 1815 and Abigail Gilbert (Abby) is leaving home to travel across England to the man she's to marry. It's just her and her maid--no footman or manservant to protect them on such a long journey. Abigail turns down the offer to hire a sharpshooter which she later regrets, and she and her maid (who's quite outspoken for a maid) are saved from attackers by Samuel Thatcher, who's growing tired of his job. Captain Thatcher agrees to guard Abby the rest of her journey because the money she offers will allow him to quit his job and buy some land, if they can make it to her destination.

Abby's treatment by her stepmother and half-sisters reminded me of Cinderella. It's obvious her stepmother hates her and Abby's the one who put forth the effort to be friends with her half-sisters. I often wondered why her father allowed her to be treated that way, as it's not explained except to say "Father had been too preoccupied with his new wife, and her stepmother truly had only space for one love in heart--herself." Her stepmother ridiculed her up to the time she left her her journey and she was the only one around to see her off--if that's what you want to call it. Her father was not home as they were all going abroad to visit her brother. Abby's also quite naive as to how the world works and the dangers out there facing her in such a long journey. She also built up what her intended, Sir Johnathon Aberley baronet, would be like. She only met him once at a ball but is so sure he's good and kind she promises Samuel that Johnathon will pay him when she arrives safely.

Captain Samuel Thatcher is a man who's seen a lot in his years as a Runner. He's ready to buy a piece of property and have a quiet life. Money to be able to do that is the sole reason he escorts Abby's carriage across the heath and to her betrothed, Sir Johnathon Aberley baronet. Samuel can come across at times like a hard man, but when he agrees to take his friend's baby girl to her Aunt, it seems to soften his edges.

There's a lot of adventure in this story--bandits, a baby to deliver, a fair, so this is far from a boring read. I enjoyed seeing how Samuel and Abby had less conflicts and started to get along as their journey progressed. By the time she got to her destination they had started having feelings for each other and baby Emma. I love how this story ended. This is the third in the Bow Street Runners series, but the first I've read. I wasn't lost or confused by not reading the previous books, but now I really want to read them.

This is a clean read (just kissing) as far as romance. There is some violence, and perilous situations.

Can they each find the peace they both desire?

Now that I've read a few of Michelle Griep's books I've come to expect a lot from her. Her trademark is historical romance with flawed but likable characters and a nice healthy dash of suspense.

The Noble Guardian started out a little slow for me, more historical romancy at first, but then, boy, howdy did it take off and I was totally immersed in the story. This book really has it all, lots of atmosphere on the wild roads of Regency England, danger, mystery, and, of course, romance between two polar opposite characters that you can't help but love. There are also some surprising secondary characters, both the wonderful and the menacing.

One of my favorite parts of the book was getting to learn so much about travel and accommodations in Regency era England. Do you know what a postilion was? I didn't until I read The Noble Guardian.

I really enjoyed my foray into history with The Bow Street Runners and now that I've finished The Noble Guardian I can't wait for Michelle Griep's next exciting novel...

Abigail (Abby) Gilbert has been raised by an indifferent father and a hateful stepmother and stepsisters. Now her father has betrothed her to a baronet. She is being sent off with only her maid and an inexperienced coachman to make her way through the English highlands that are currently plagued with highwaymen. Samuel Thatcher, a Bow Street runner, encounters Abigail when she is stopped by highwaymen and her coachmen is killed.

Filled with action, danger, and romantic adventure, Michelle Griep has penned another wonderful historical romantic suspense novel. Each of the books in this series reads well as a stand alone even though there are a few connections in each because the heroes of each are Bow Street Runners. Abby is filled with caring sweetness; yet at the same time, she is a fighter. Samuel is a dark, brooding, appealing hero who is loyal, protective, caring, and honorable. And, of course, baby Emma steals the limelight every time she appears.

Michelle Griep excels at bringing this time period to life and creates memorable characters that fill the story with life and adventure. Her historical notes at the end added interesting information regarding this time period.

I've come to appreciate and enjoy Michelle Griep's historical fiction.

My initial thoughts as I began the book was that it felt like a Cinderella retelling- a beautiful young lady, hated by her two stepsisters and stepmother. Abby is betrothed to a gentleman, and needs to leave to go marry him, but none of her family can be bothered to accompany her on the difficult journey, or even come to her wedding. So she's sent off with only her maid to travel with her. Then they encounter all kinds of difficulties.

This of course is where the hero comes in. Captain Thatcher. At first, Abby mistakenly assumed him for a highwayman. But that's because they'd already been chased after by some of those bad guys.

Folks, This is just the beginning! Well-written, lovely setting, and much, much more.

If you enjoy historical fiction, read it! This is the final book in a series, but can also be read as a stand alone.

I have not visited England, although my children have. I enjoy reading books about places I may never visit - The Noble Guardian provided that field trip for me.

Set in 1815 at a time of arranged marriages and highway robbers, The Noble Guardian, contains both danger and romance. Michelle Griep has given the reader characters to hate as well as characters to love. Watching the relationship grow between Abby and her guardian leaves the reader with speculation as to how this developing love will be resolved once Abby has been delivered to her betrothed.

I always appreciate it when authors provide some historical background for their novels. Michelle Griep does that with historical notes at the end of the book. She includes information about highwayman, the magistrates of Bow Street, physicians vs. surgeons vs. apothecaries, coaching inns, and about two health ailments mentioned in the story: croup and putrid throat. She also includes a bibliography which would be helpful for readers who want to do some research of their own.

I would not hesitate to add The Noble Guardian to my K-12 Christian School library. The book is appropriate for high schoolers and maybe some middle schoolers.

My thoughts:
Have you ever had a book where you just knew you were going to love it and you were only one chapter in? That is this book! Such a great read. The characters just suck you in and there is no escape. Not that you want to escape. I mean, you really don’t even want to put it down to go eat or take care of your kids.

I’m a big fan of historical fiction. While this doesn’t necessarily cover any real historical time events like a world war, it’s still a great read. You get to go back in time and that in and of itself is fun. While time traveling, take the time to imagine yourself in those clothes because we all know you’re doing it anyway as you imagine yourself the heroine.

There is just something about the past that draws me so that is always a plus for a book to be set in days gone by. Another plus in my “book” is if the writer knows what she’s talking about. I mean we don’t want hoop skirts in the Edwardian period or bustles on the pre Civil War farm ladies. With that being said I really think the author did a good job researching and knowing about the time period she’s writing in.

This is the end book of a series. Do yourself a favor and go get the other books first. You can read it as a stand-alone but why not read the whole series!? I’m a big fan of reading series works as a series and this is one that definitely makes it all that much better. You don’t have to. I can’t force you to. Just saying I think it makes it that much better!

The characters were charming. I laughed more than I probably should have as it did get my children’s attention and I had to stop reading for a bit. The main characters are so loveable and I really did feel like they were my new best friends. Best friends that definitely do not get along. . . or maybe they do.

Wow. That is what I have to say to the last book in the Bow Street Runners series. I am sorry to see it end.
I have read the other books in the series. But this can be read as a stand alone as some back story is shared in books 2 and 3. I have read several of this author's books - but this one has to be my favorite. Samuel Thatcher gets his own story. BOY what a story that is!

This book is set in Southampton, England 1815. This is not a time period that I read a lot on, so I am always excited to learn new things. The author has down careful reasearch. One of the things that I love about this author is how she creates "real" feeling characters. They are not perfect. They are flawed. Have dirt. Have secrets. Just like you and me. This book has a lot of action and you will NOT want it to end.

I received a copy of this book through the Celebrate Lit blogging program. All thoughts are my own.

I enjoyed reading Michelle Griep's new book, The Noble Guardian. It has everything a reader could ask for; a damsel in distress, a handsome rescuer, and a good plot line.

If you are a fan of historical Christian fiction, add this book to your reading list!

Thanks to Netgalley, I received a copy of The Noble Guardian by Michelle Griep. This was the first book I read by this author but it will not be the last! Following the adventures of Abigail Gilbert in the Regency period in England, I absorbed the culture, atmosphere, and expectations of several layers of society. This tale was so descriptive and well written - I definitely enjoyed reading it! Realizing this is part of a series, I had no trouble starting with this book and following the storyline.

With a cinderella-type backstory, Abby Gilbert leaves behind a cruel stepmother and unloving family to marry a man she's met only once, and very briefly! But she's a determined young woman, hopeful for a better life and for the love of her soon-to-be-husband. With only a maid to accompany her, the journey to this fiancé takes her across the heath--and into the path of the dangerous, murdering blackguards.

I love that we get Samuel Thatcher's story! He showed up in "The Innkeeper's Daughter" (my favorite Bow Street Runners novel) and everyone was clamoring to know more about this dark, handsomely-grim man. He's seen a lot of hell in his life and career. He moves like the shadows; his sharp, rough manners need a little work: from his 'devilish' intense stare, to his sharp, demanding tones. He always expects death to be waiting around the corner to claim him, but it won't stop him. He has a noble calling: To 'stop the wicked, and protect the vulnerable.'

It is this noble calling which leads him to the heath, drawn by a gunshot, and to Abby.

And in this headstrong, determined woman, Samuel meets his match. And dreams for an impossible future.

I sensed Samuel was a deeply intriguing character from the last book, and all I can say is my heart broke for him as I got to know him in this novel: He is my favorite. Griep made him real in a raw and tragic way that will impact and stay with you long after you close the last chapter.

I quickly connected with these two characters--their hopes, struggles, and their brave determination through it all. Moments of humor amidst the ever-shadowing danger. And moments of poignant truths and heart-felt connections. I couldn't stop highlighting in my Kindle!

I'm looking forward to adding a copy of this, another Griep masterpiece, to my bookshelf! It's high on my list, and I hope to have it soon. And what an absolutely gorgeous cover!

I received an advanced reader’s copy from the Barbour Publishing, Inc on NetGalley for an honest review.

Abby Gilbert leaves a loveless home situation with high hopes that her planned marriage to a Lord will turn out to be a love match, even though she's only met the man once. Along the way, she encounters Samuel Thatcher, a lawman with his own baggage and doubts, but one who takes his duties very seriously. As the two travel long distances through dangerous situations and complications arise such as a request to deliver a small child to her aunt, they each must face whether the holes they're looking to fill can be met by a person, themselves, or whether they need to look to Someone greater.

I am not a huge fan of historical fiction, but the more I heard about this book, the less I could resist it. I am so glad that I finally picked it up; Abby and Samuel are such compelling characters that you can't help but want their hearts to heal and for them to find their fulfillment with God. I always love when a male character appreciates the strong points of the female character, rather than just her curves or fine features, and Abby's bravery and inner strength were what drew Samuel to her over and over again.

I give this book 4 stars. It seems that this is part of a series, but it was definitely enjoyable as a standalone novel. I will be looking for the first two, though, if they're as good as this one!

I received a digital copy of this book, via NetGalley, from the publisher, in exchange for my honest review.

This is my first book by this author. I liked the writing and the characters. Abby was a bit naive and an incurable optimist but she also had spunk. The Captain was pretty invincible. A super hero of sorts. It seemed he could not be brought down. He was also caring and kind despite being jaded by his job. And little Emma was a cutie. I can't imagine what it would be like to take a trip like that with a young child. I think the book glossed over a lot of those difficulties but we probably didn't need descriptions for things like what they did with dirty diapers while traveling in a coach for days on end... ick.

I think the characters helped each other with traits they needed. The captain needed to be softer and learn to have faith and hope and Abby needed to gain street smarts and learn to really stand up for herself.

This is obviously Christian lit but not too over the top. Mostly they pray to God for guidance and assistance.

There was some high drama with sadistic highwaymen along with the romance. I thought it was an enjoyable read.

Sex: a couple kisses, some innuendo.
Language: a couple deities.
Violence: yes

Quality, clean historical fiction is my favorite genre. I don't mind a little mystery as long as it isn't too intense. Neither some romance, as long as it remains clean. A Noble Guardian by Michelle Griep filled these requirements well!

This is the third title in The Bow Street Runner Trilogy. I have not read the first two titles, but this story stands alone and it is not necessary to have done so. I love that it is a pretty lengthy book! I love reading long books where there is plenty of time for character development.

This particular title was peril-filled! Lots of action and adventure follow the heroine and hero along the way. I did have some trouble getting a good feeling for the setting, but I think this may have had to do with the nature of travel in the book. The heroine is traveling to meet her fiance and in the process the hero must accompany her for safety reasons after she is attacked. I do think if I had read the previous novels the setting would have been a little easier to grasp.

I did like the heroine of this story. She is plucky, but also naive in many ways. At times I felt her reactions didn't match other parts of her expressed character, but then I remember none of us is able to be exactly predictable in our natures.

Like most romance stories there is a lot of will-they/won't-they play back and forth. I appreciated that it was handled well and with tact. The more "romantic" descriptions were very tasteful, but were still a little deeper than I would have my daughters read until they are older, maybe college age. They aren't interested in romance yet anyway, but I do keep that in mind as I am reading.

I was pleased with the closure. There was miscommunication and misunderstanding, not all the fault of the characters, but it was cleared up eventually and everything tied up nicely. I do not like cliff hangers or unresolved endings and I was quite satisfied with how things tied up with both of the main characters as well as the young child who plays a significant role in their story.

I would highly recommend this title, but I think going back and reading the first two in the series might be beneficial to getting the most enjoyment out of this one.

This book was received as an ARC from Barbour Publishing, Inc. - Shiloh Run Press in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

The series ends on a thrilling note that will leave you breathless and speechless. The Noble Guardian continues with Abigail and the perfect life she has built for herself. About to marry one of the richest men in the town, she gets caught with some criminals and relies on a lawnman to save her and bring her back to town. Along the way, the lawnman grows fond of Abigail and their relationship starts to spark and may end up at a different direction when she returns home and she will find happiness with someone else. Christian Fiction is a popular genre with our patrons and community and I know this book will be among the most popular that gets circulated.

We will consider adding this title to our Christian Fiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

What a wonderful story! I loved the characters. They are so unique and well written. The book pulls you in quickly and doesn’t let go! It has adventure, peril, heroism, a sweet and clean love story, and a wonderful ending. This is a book that I could enjoy reading again and again. I definitely recommend it!

Y'all, I just have to start off this review by saying how much I loved this book! Oh. My. Heart! Absolutely loved it! If you're a fan of Michelle Griep, do yourself a favor and just pause everything you have going on and grab this book. If you haven't ever read a Michelle Griep book, seriously do yourself an even bigger favor and go get one of her books to read. I had been eyeing the first book in this series for a while but was unable to get it to read. Then a couple years later I happened upon a book of hers for review on NetGalley and jumped at the chance. After that I've been an avid fan of hers!

So, this is book three in the series, and the final book. I still haven't read the first book in the series. Ugh. I know. I seriously need to rectify that and read it. Because I've wanted to for years. But I have read the second book and this one and really enjoyed them. I think you'd probably be just fine reading this as a stand alone novel. There are a few moments that tie in the main characters from the first two books but the author does it in such a way that you could understand.

Abigail sets out on an epic adventure when she leaves her home to head to her betrothed to be wed. Little does she know all that is about to transpire and how she will be tested. Especially to keep her wits about her so she can arrive safely where her heart desires...with her betrothed.

Samuel is a Bow Street Runner trying to find some good and humanity in the world, trying to find hope. When his path throws him on the same path as Abigail's, he might start to see a flicker of hope.

I loved the twists and turns throughout this book. Especially the many characters throughout. There are some hardened and dangerous characters. There are some despicable characters. There are some comic relief characters. There are some characters that offer love and hope. Yes, a great and well rounded cast of characters are within these pages. There were some that I just wanted to shake. Ugh! How could they be that way???!!!!!!!!!!! There were some characters that I just absolutely adored and wanted to snuggle (you'll understand when you read it)!

Danger, heartache, carriage rides, horse chases, sneak attacks, sorrow, carriage chases, lies, laughs, deceit, marriage, evil villains, silly maids, death, new life, hope, fear, money, longing stares, love, truth, and much, much more!

This book, I really didn't want it to end. I didn't want to set it down when my reading time was up. I just wanted to keep being immersed in this world, especially with Abigail and Samuel. Oh, my! ;-)

Content: Clean. Some moments of peril and suspense. Not overly graphic. There is some death and killing. This is a Christian fiction so there is talk about God and finding Him in your lives. A couple very mild innuendos but nothing more than kissing.

I received a copy from the publisher, Barbour Publishing, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

It’s 1815 and readers are introduced to an ugly family. It’s like Cinderella, except we only meet the stepmother and Abby hasn’t quite been reduced to servant status. But she is being married off and has convinced herself that she’s in love with her intended. That’s despite meeting him only once and, when pressed, she can’t quite describe his character. She can barely remember what he looks like either. Meanwhile, those who’ve read the first two books of the Bow Street Runners trilogy will remember Thatcher as a mysterious figure who seemingly got around without making a sound. He’d appear out of nowhere to interact with the main characters and blend easily into crowds.

This was a novel where I knew what should happen by the end, but didn’t know how the narrative would get there. There was action and romance, joy and sadness, and scenes with good families and bad families. If I have one criticism, it’s that none of the wealthy characters – with the exception of Abby – were portrayed in a positive light. Getting to know Thatcher was a real treat, and I’ll probably see him differently should I re-read the earlier books. I felt bad for Abby, who was put in a terrible situation with her own reputation and life at risk. Arranged marriages were nothing out of the ordinary for this time, but the way in which this one was handled by her family was mind blowing. In my opinion, The Noble Guardian is the best book of the trilogy. But you’ll want to read the other two books first, just to really appreciate Thatcher at his most enigmatic.

Thank you to Barbour Publishing for my complimentary Advanced Reader Copy of The Noble Guardian.

I loved this book!! Michelle Griep is excellent at creating characters you care for with a writing style that flows smoothly and beautifully. I particularly enjoyed seeing two characters who felt unlovable find peace in the Lord and each other!

I have read the entire Bow Street trilogy but this was my favorite!

Truthfully I've had the first books in this series on my TBR pole for as long as I can remember and not gotten around to reading them. Don't know why but I'd definitely be doing that now. The author writes superbly.

A truly awesome book with lots of twists and turns that captivate you from the start and keep you craving more all the way to the end.
Abigail leaves the home she knows where she feels no love on a journey to meet her betrothed. Little does she know that this would be the journey of her life.
Samuel Thatcher a bow runner who has lost faith in humanity and still struggles to see the good that comes with men. He stumbles upon Abby and saves her from highway men thus beginning their alliance that is filled with adventure, chases, gunfights and bits of comedy in between.
The side characters each added on the way both good and bad are a delight to the story. It's funny how Abigail never really saw through her intended until it was nearly too late.
The Christian elements are spot on too. God is in control always is and he cares about you so let go and trust him
A truly delightful read. Although it I the third in the series, it can be read as a standalone without feeling lost just a few minor spoilers from the first two books.

Looking forward to more from this author.

I am reviewing a copy of The Noble Guardian through Barbour Publishing Inc/Shiloh Run Press and Netgalley:

After having lived with a family who hated her, now is finally time for Abigail Gilbert to experience love. Abby finds herself setting off on a journey across England to marry one of the most prestigious gentlemen in the land—until highwaymen upset her plans and threaten her life.

Samuel Thatcher a horse patrol captain arrives just in time to save Abby. She’s simply another victim in a job he has grown to despise. He has grown tired of the dark side of humanity, he has plans to buy land and retire.

Abby convinces him to escort her for the rest of the journey. He finally agrees after she offers him something she desperately needs to achieve his goal, which means money. If he delivers her safely he will have more than enough to buy property.

This begins an impossible trek for cynical lawmen and the proper lady. Each will be forever changed by the time they reach Abby’s betrothed that is if they don’t kill each other first or fall in love.

I give The Noble Guardian five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

The Noble Guardian was amazing!! I was drawn to the cover of the book, than to the description. Once I was reading it I was drawn into the story.
Abby was such a wonderful lady. She had so much growing done in the pages of the story, she started out young and naive but grew into a strong and brave lady! Abby's faith in God was nothing short of amazing, watching it grow through the book inspired me to continue to grow! I loved how much Abby took care of little Emma and that she became like a mother to the child.
Samuel drew you in from the moment you met him! He is strong, brave and has a huge faith in God. The fact that he trusted God even with all the bad he saw was so inspiring. Even though he questioned things, which we all do, he never let his faith waiver!!!
I highly recommend this book to anyone! I loved it and look forward to reading more books by the author.

I enjoyed this story very much; it sucked me in and I had a hard time putting it down. Of course, I knew long before the end of the story how it would end, but I wanted to find out how it happened! Abigail was so desperate for love that she was blind to reality. I rooted for her all the way through, to wake up and see what was obvious. The baby was a delightful addition to this romance. The one thing I could have done without in the book was the violence. There were several violent deaths, which was probably authentic, but I don't like it. There was also a near-rape scene; in my opinion, it was handled well, without being too graphic. I appreciated the spiritual growth in Abigail through the story. About halfway through, Abigail met a woman named Wenna who showed her clearly that God loved her and wanted her. Wenna had some very wise words!

I received an ARC of this book from Barbour Publishing, Inc. via NetGalley, this review is my personal opinion.

This book was amazing!. I read it in 48 hours, I just couldn't stop reading. I have my copy of Brentwood's Ward and The Innkeeper's Daughter, I won't say any spoilers, but those first book of this series are must be read.

So on this final book of the series, we have Samuel Tatcher, he is tired of all the ugliness he has seen this ten years in his job as a runner and now a Captian. He just wants to have a simple easy, uncomplicated life. However he needs money to accomplish his dreams, and that's were Abigail Gilbert, Abby for short. Enters, she came from a family that sadly care very little of her, she longs to be loved by who she is and she believes that the men her father arranges for her to marry are the answer to that prayer. But in her way she is attacked by highwaymen, Samuel saves her. So, we have two very different people, from different backgrounds forced to join forces. Abby for the protection Samuel offer, and him for what the payment represents for his plans and future.

As always, Michelle Griep wrote a great story with layers mixed with a profound and relatable message. You are loved, accept it just as you are. I believe that many times like in the case of Abby we try so hard to earn other people love we just don't see it and also how we may be trying for so long do things in our way without God's help and we end up tired and struggling like in the case of Samuel.

I truly loved the way the series ends it, I will say it: Well done to Michelle Griep!, So, if you like a good historical fiction, with interesting characters, great descriptions, faith, romance a second chance and many unexpected situations, this series is a winner I recommend all three books of The Bow Street Runners.

Truly grateful to Barbour Publishing for the ARC of this book.

I love Michelle Griep's ability to take you right back in time with every little detailed description and gripping story lines and The Nobel Guardian is just another example of her talent to do that. This is a wonderful story that concludes the series with a bit of everything. Complete with carriage robbers, romance, and a lot of courage, The Nobel Guardian is a solid and page turning story. I hadn't read the preceding books and had no problem catching on to the story, so it is a great standalone story. For a bit of an adventure through the English countryside in the early 1800's be sure to pick this one up!

At first it took me a while to get into this story, but the Cinderella story with a twist quickly grabbed my attention.

On top of the historical rich story, filled with interesting characters and a Noble hero, and a bit naive still feisty young lady, I was taken on an adventurous ride where the action had no ending, with the highwaymen out for revenge.

Michelle Griep's books was only a recent find, but I enjoy her writing style. She has a unique way of describing things which I find quite entertaining.

If you enjoy historical fiction with a bit of suspense and romance, be sure to try this author's books, especially this series.

The Noble Guardian by Michelle Griep is a historical romance page-turner! The book itself is packed with excitement, romance, and suspense! Abigail and Samuel have such great chemistry together that it makes the book that much more enjoyable to read. Whenever you try to put the book down for a break, something exciting happens! I highly recommended this book if you are looking for a historical romance with some exciting twist and turns!

I was captivated! A true page turner and my initial draw to the book and author was justified tenfold with The Noble Guardian by Michelle Griep. I selected to join this book tour because of my experience with Ladies of Intrigue by Michelle Griep and because I was immediately drawn to the cover of this book. (Read my review of that book here.) However, I cannot review this book as a conclusion to the Bow Street Runners Trilogy series by Michelle Griep as I haven’t yet read all the books. As a master of details and depth I couldn’t miss out. The Noble Guardian did not disappoint, even reading it stand alone. I love the dichotomy of good and evil, how Griep weaves faith, romance, and suspense together so beautifully and you cannot help be drawn along on the spiritual journey of the characters.

I am particularly partial to stories that bring you along as characters grow in their faith. Additionally the masterful weaving of this regency novel is everything I love of the era! Plus the characters and dialogue are entirely realistic. I love Griep’s dedication to detail and also to tackling challenging topics like the effects of abuse. That takes courage as an author and it’s something I have come to appreciate in Griep.

I hope you will grab a copy of the book, maybe the entire series! I know I’ll be returning to read both Brentwood’s Ward and The Innkeeper’s Daughter.

“It’s more noble to love, even if it’s not returned, than to live without it.”

Thanks to the publisher for a copy of the book, all these opinions are my own.

It has been a long time since I have had such strong opinions and feelings about the characters in a book. Some of the characters never spoke or even made an appearance in the book. Yet, I didn’t like them. The Noble Guardian was the book that pulled me in with strong opinions and feelings.

Even the main character was not one I like at the beginning. I thought she was naive and she was. That is part of who she is at the beginning. Through the book you watch her change. I thought she was foolish. You know what desperate people do things because they are desperate and want out of a situation.

So the journey begins. While I think the drive between our house in the north and London takes time, I am driving on the M1 and have services at regular intervals. The journey for Abigail from London north is not the same. It is dangerous. There was a point that I felt like this trip was just one night after another in an inn along the way. The trip seemed to drag on and on. I am too used to jumping in my car and heading out. The journey was needed to begin to change Abigail.

Everyone wants a hero like Samuel Thatcher. He was one who was fighting justice and what is right. Would he escort her all the way to her destination? What would happen along the way? He has his own struggles that he is facing and has faced. You see how he helps a boy escape wishing that someone had done the same for him.

This was the conclusion of a trilogy. Each book tells a different Bow Street Runner’s story. These can be read as stand-alone books through this one did not have as much background on the Bow Street Runners. I love the historical facts that back up the story. I learned a bit about the first professional police force in London. The book inspired me to learn just a bit more about Bow Street Runners.

This is a book full of adventure with people you might not like but some that you will like. Mr. Hawker was one that I loved at the end. Travel back to the early 1800s and travel with Abigail and her Noble Guardian on a trip that changes everyone.

It's usually bittersweet when a series ends, but oh, what an ending to this series! London - check. Robbers aka outlaws - check. Samuel Thatcher - that's a big check! It was cool to get to read the rest of his story. Samuel and Abby were fantastic in this book. It has little "cameos" from the prior books woven into it as well. It has tons of action, adventures and some suspense. A regency series with extras, it has history, and the underlying foundations we are always looking for in Griep's books; that Christ-centered lesson or theme. God is in control, are we listening? This excellent read stands alone but is even richer as the ending of this trilogy.

My copy came from Celebrate Lit. My review contains my thoughts and opinions of this book. It's left of my own free will.

I’m so so sorry to see this series end!
Hopefully, Michelle Griep will bless us with a new series soon…
Anyway, about the finale of the The Bow Street Runners Trilogy, it couldn’t have been any better! I totally loved it! And I think Samuel Tatcher is my new favorite hero. I watched him through out the previous books, and he was a truly misterious man: few words, dark and brooding… So I was eager to get to know him better when his turn was due. And I totally fell in love with him! And I loved the cover, as it gave me the perfect image of him, it fitted his personality just perfectly.
Samuel Thatcher, one of England’s Bow Street Runners, is weary of his job and ready to retire. He has seen enough of life’s injustice and sorrow, and all he wishes for is a quiet life for himself. He just needs a little bit of more money so he can finally buy a land he has on mind and then his dream will finally come true. So, he keeps on, hoping the end is almost near, until he meets his match: charming, headstrong and spirited Abigail, during one of his stops at a fateful inn.
Abigail Gilbert is about to reach her dream: to get away from her family that seems to despise her and marry one of the most eligible bachelors she could hope for. She only has to get to his estate which she will have to do by her own means and only her maid to accompany her. She should be able to accomplish that, right? It will be so much worth it. That is, until they are attacked by highway men and Samuel comes to their rescue. Samuel just wants to take them to the next inn and leave them be, but Abby asks him to escort her on her journey. Samuel fights his compassionate heart and rejects her, but her offer is just too tempting: a retribution that will finally let him purchase his land and let him and enjoy some peace…
What he never expects is what the journey will ensue. Danger and adventure along the way and an attraction he immediately denies to himself (he is taking her to her betrothed isn't he?). Add a sweet babe to the mix who they have to deliver to her aunt and you have a beautiful, sweet, fun, dangerous and gripping story that will keep you wanting for more!
I loved the plot of this story, but I especially loved the characters. Samuel won my heart from the start: his cool, weary and dettached appeareance only hid a soft heart that will show itself when the ones he’s responsable for and growing to love are in need to protection. It was touching to see him be so protective of his charges, and I particularly loved the ironical humor that characterizes him. The banters between him and Abby were a delight to read. And I loved how Abby grows through out the story, from being naive and used to commodities to being a strong woman who will face the challenges life throws her.
The romance was really sweet. And the dangers, the pending marriage which she had idealized, all of it made a truly page Turner of this story.
I definitely reccomend it, as I do with every one of Michelle’s books. But this one in particular is now my new favorite of hers. Can't wait for her next story!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the Publisher vía NetGalley and this is my honest and unbiased review.

Griep's unparalleled sense of gothic atmosphere is matched by a dishy, brooding hero and a lady who deserves better than the lot cast her.

I love the Heyer-esque use of journeying and the travails and triumphs therein that recalled favourite reads by Carla Kelly and even Angela Hunt. And as we swiftly move from place to place--at turns dangerous and tranquil-- Griep's competent pen and exceptional world building are put to great use.

I also would like to spare a moment for the cover .... wonderful to see a man on the front of a CBA historical--- and a bit anomalous at that :)
