What if your secret was so bad you couldn’t even tell yourself?

Tom Jacobs is a man of many secrets.

From the outside, it looks like Tom has it all – a wealthy family, a prestigious job, and a beautiful girlfriend. But his biggest secret is coming for him.

Nightmares and voices haunt him until nothing in his life feels safe.

Vehement denial and copious amounts of alcohol only delay the approach but leave Tom with missing time and strained relationships. Everything in his life comes into question. As things begin to disintegrate, he can only watch, anchorless and increasingly adrift.

This was a fascinating peek into the mind of a man on the brink of ending it all. Sometimes life just becomes so overwhelming that you can't think of a way through, except out (permanently). Tom is standing at the brink of making that decision, and Butler did an excellent job of bringing Tom to life, drawing the reader into his life. Although at times difficult to read because of the things covered, this is nonetheless a captivating story of darkness and the light of hope.
