Description

Do you feel daily pressure to keep pushing yourself even when you're stressed and exhausted?

It's time to leave Superwoman in the movies, where she belongs, and say hello to being a Super Woman—the best, most productive and balanced version of the hero you already are.

For years—maybe your entire life—you've been told that success means having it all and doing it all. But working more and harder is holding you back, not moving you forward. In Becoming Super Woman, New York Times bestselling author Nicole Lapin redefines what it means to be a woman who "has it all"—and shows you how to find lasting success by your own definition, on your own terms.

Nicole candidly shares her own story of career burnout and an emergency hospitalization that prompted her to take her mental health seriously for the first time ever. Along the way, she discovered that not only was this priority shift not a defeat, it was the key to unlocking even greater achievements.

In her third and most personal book yet, Nicole lays out an actionable, 12-step plan to guide you in taking control and becoming the hero of your own story, with the skills it takes to be a real Super Woman—skills we should (but often don't) learn growing up, from productivity hacks to boundary setting. She makes the case that the real secret to success doesn't hinge on the hustle or degrees you have but in "putting on your own oxygen mask before helping others." In fact, self-care is the biggest asset or liability in our careers—when it's on-point it can help us soar, and when it's neglected it can bring us down faster than anything else.

Entertaining, honest, and life-changing, Becoming Super Woman shows you how to banish burnout, ward off a breakdown, and achieve true balance … finally.

Borrowing from the 12 step recovery program, this book goes from accepting that as a woman you cannot dot it all and have it all and that's okay, all the way to how to incorporate this into your daily life as you strive to achieve your goals.
I love how the author straight on calls out some societal misconceptions about 'superwomen,' and better yet, how she uses examples from her own struggles and those of other famous figures to provide a reality check.
If you struggle with your finances, then this book is a must read-because she also talks about careers, spending, investing and budgeting.
Of all the twelve steps, my favorite was step 5, where the author explores the need for boundaries. It's what I am learning and embracing at this point in my life and I am glad that I came across a book that helps shed light on how to go about this.
Thanks Netgalley for the eARC. I would recommend this to every woman out there, it's okay to take a break, take a step back, exhale and come back ready to forge ahead.

The book is a good primer for those who don't already do a lot of reading on the subjects of mental health and maintaining balance. The author writes as though she is your friend sitting with you and talking all of this over with you.

If you prefer a conversational tone and are looking to learn more about balancing and managing your priorities, this is a pretty good book.

This is the perfect book for anyone feeling that they are being stretched way too thin. The author broke down this book into 12 topics, so it is easy to leave it and come back to it as time permits. Overall, this was an enjoyable read filled with great advice.

I had never heard of Nicole Lapin before but a quick google told me she was a public personality (well she has her own Wikipedia page so perhaps I should upgrade that to famous) and she has already written a couple of books. I haven't read her previous work but was glad to discover that I didn't need to in order to get the benefit of this one.

The author is definitely brave, the book opens on her admission to a psych ward, and writes well in a conversational manner. Content wise the book really hit home for me as it seems to describe exactly where I am in terms of burnout. Thankfully it is not just a moan and groan book but actually has steps to take in order to succeed. Which will be helpful for me in scaffolding my next steps.

I have only read through the book, I haven't completed any of the suggested tasks but I think that I will definitely be working with my accountability buddy on them (and a few by myself. I'm so glad that I picked up this book because I was honestly in two minds, thinking it could be a book full of tips for how to have it all which it's not. A must read for anyone looking to jump off the treadmill.

Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for an egalley in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed reading this and seeing how the book explores different aspects of your life that you can re-evaluate. I especially enjoyed the chapter on social media, as this is something I have been thinking about for a while and definitely need to reduce the amount of time I spend scrolling!

This book was received as an ARC from BenBella Books in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

I was inspired from the start to begin this book hearing about Nicole and the struggles she went through to get to where she is today. I love it when author's of these powerful self-help books incorporate personal stories and experiences to really reflect the information the author is presenting in the book to prove the methods really work rather than relying of experiences of others. Nicole preaches also that when everything is earned, it's so rewarding to have it all because when earned creates value and that is worth more than ever. Also, that you are in control of your own life, if you're not happy, do something about it and Nicole can teach you how. This book will do very well in our self-help collection and I can't wait to share it with our community and watch their lives change.

We will consider adding this title to our self-help collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

Tons of practical advice for all women, whatever their age, their profession, or social status. I felt like Nicole was being my personal coach or my therapist while reading this book, she was telling me to get off my feet and start thinking and writing about things, always keeping in mind that you have the power to change your life to make it what you want it to be.

I specifically liked the difference that Nicole makes between "having it all" and "doing it all," pointing out that you can have it all, but you can't do it all. Having it all does not mean be the best at everything, and definitely not all at once.

I will definitely recommend this book to my students and mentees.
