Lucy Gray comes from a big family and does exactly what she should do- all the time. She plans her sister Marian’s wedding- even when she had a wedding planner. And made two reservations of all the wedding plans so Marian could make last minute decisions. So when Marian forgets to cancel honeymoon #2 in London, Lucy decides its a sign for a change. ⁣
What Lucy doesn’t anticipate is the hunk that meets her at the airport or the hunk at the hotel. Or that the hotel is specifically reserved for couples only....⁣
Humor, romance and family hysterics all in one. ⁣

The story is told in first person for a reason as certain things must remain hidden from Lucy and her friend until the end. I figured those things out after a while but since the main emphasis of the story is on Lucy and how she changes, I was okay with her staying in the dark. The whole set-up of the plot, along with some of the details needed to keep all the balls in the air, requiresthe reader to just go with it. But then most rom-com movies induce some eye rolling and have some “Yeah, okay” moments, too.

To repeat – the majority of the story is about Lucy discovering new things and strengths about herself. I liked watching her spread her wings and decide that she was going to make this work and make the most of it. The friendship that she forges with her old school acquaintance is fun to watch and she doesn’t lose her agency as I’m used to seeing in these situations. She also fends off “the other” guy’s questions and intrusions into her life until their relationship begins to change. He was never utterly obnoxious (more like a bit annoying at first until Lucy began to take some control of the relationship) and slowly we can see his feelings changing for her. I also adored Lucy’s family’s blog.

There were a few things that made me think another editing pass would have been nice such as two uses of the word “ushering.” “Everyone seems to be closing shop early for the holidays, ushering down the streets to family and traditions.” “Everyone is ushering inside for reprieve from holiday madness and bitter chill.” Another reviewer pointed out that FAO Schwarz was misspelled.

Still I enjoyed Lucy’s joie de vivre and watching her break out of her rut and grab her chance to do what she wants. It is also nice that the humor in the book isn’t turned on Lucy as so often happens in chicklit. I would have liked to learn what she decided to do with her thoughts on how she wanted to change in her life going forward (besides permanently hooking up with The One). But for me to enjoy a trope I thought I was tired of says a lot. B-

A cute, fun little romance read. It was a bit predictable in my opinion, but that didn't take away from any of the enjoyment. If you're looking for something light and fun I definitely recommend it. I loved how family played a significant part in this book, which is something we don't see a lot of. Lucy was an enjoyable character to read about, and it was fun getting to follow her in her adventures around London and Paris.

Review: Honeymoon Alone was such an enjoyable read! I got A PG version of Christina Lauren vibes with the kinda quirky fun loving main character, overbearing but loving family, and a great personal adventure to get to love. I really liked how her love interest wasn’t completely obvious from the beginning and it was just as much of a self discovery story as it was a romance. Overall it was a heart warming, fun read!

After a disastrous wedding date, our heroine finds herself at a crossroads. Should she go on a big adventure or stay in the boundaries her family and her have set with her life. Ultimately, she takes the risk and we the reader are left to enjoy a stroll through the sights and sounds of London. We get to see it through her eyes and watch her fall for the hero. And anymore explanation on that and it will spoil things. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to any other books Nicole Macaulay writes.

Honeymoon Alone is a sweet and addicting romance. I expected to read a few chapters before bed but instead found myself halfway through this book before I forced myself to go to sleep way past my bedtime.

When Lucy decides to take a psychic’s advice to follow fates signs she finds herself in London expecting to have an adventure of a lifetime. Instead, she is forced to lie and is troubled with more complications than she ever could have imagined - including a broody concierge and a former High School classmate who was asked to keep an eye on her.

I loved Lucy (pun intended) and her entire outspoken and occasionally overbearing family. Her family blog was one of the highlights of the book for me. I couldn’t stop laughing at these characters and enjoyed everything they did to help and protect one another. I would love to read another story featuring the Grays. I don’t want to give too much away but I was happy with how the romance unfolded. It was funny, sweet and a little bit messy. The plot twist at the end was expected but I still enjoyed every chapter and couldn’t put this book down..

Thank you to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for an ARC (or rather, a free review copy, as I received it after the book was published), in exchange for an honest review.

This was a light and fun read, and the author really made the main character come alive. Although I did get a bit fed up with her absolute naiveté and general cluelessness, her overall sweetness of character made up for it. I loved the way the family relationships were brought into the story as well. The build-up to the crime caper she got involved in, and its denouement, were very foreseeable, but this did not detract from my enjoyment in the least. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Predictable Lucy is just that... predictable. But when the date she brought to her sister’s wedding publicly ends up with someone else there, Lucy finds herself in the psychic's tent as a means of escaping. The psychic tells her to stop avoiding the signs of fate, and wedding psychics are absolutely reliable, right? Wrong. Lucy decides that while she's ignoring fate, she'll also ignore the psychic. Watering plants at her sister's house one day, Lucy discovers that her sister, who booked two honeymoons because she couldn't decide which one she wanted to go on, never cancelled the second option to London. Is this the sign the psychic was talking about? Lucy decides that it is, and so begins her whirlwind adventure in London, her honeymoon alone. This was absolutely adorable & absolutely fun! The writing was incredibly real & I laughed out loud at multiple parts. This book is everything you want in a romcom. Thank you to the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for my review copy.

This was a very cute, fun read. It was quick, well-paced, and all-around enjoyable. I think the story could have had a little more depth to it, which is ultimately what brought it down from a 5 star for me. It reminded me a little of a Meg Cabot book, in a good way. A fun, quirky main character is always a draw for me. I would definitely recommend this to people.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of "Honeymoon Alone" in return for an honest review.

Lucy Gray is part of a very large family and always does what's expected of her. That is until her sister forgot to cancel backup honeymoon arrangements in London. Lucy decides it's her chance to go on an adventure.

"Honeymoon Alone" was a cute, lighthearted story about Lucy's journey to discover more about herself, while meeting handsome men along the way. The story was a little slow at first and I have to admit, I initially found Lucy a little annoying. That did change though once she started to grow as a character in London. I thought the plot was a little predictable, I caught the twist with certain characters pretty quickly. That said, in the end the story was fun and readers will enjoy watching Lucy grow as a character.

An engrossing read that charts the journey of personal growth people go on. Being written in first person it kept the reader guessing and in the dark as much as the characters, which made for a very engaging and fun read. A book that is so easy to binge on in one or two settings as you want to know what happens next.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. Lucy’s sister gets married and since she is a planner, she double booked everything, including a honeymoon. Conveniently, she forgot to cancel her second honeymoon so Lucy, against her norm, heads to London. When she arrives, she realizes she is staying in a couples only, honeymoon resort. Thankfully, Lucy’s best friend looked up an old classmate to keep an eye on Lucy while she was there. Cary ends up posing as Lucy’s husband. Cute story with a fun mystery to boot! #honeymoonalone #nicolemacaulay

I'd not heard of this author before but really hope to hear of her in the future. I really enjoyed this light-hearted novel. Who hasn't felt the need to get away from the mundane obligations and the interfering of our families? Who hasn't started with an innocent white lie that quickly spirals out of control? Lucy's decision to take her sister's spare honeymoon (who has one of those?) means she has to pretend to be newly married to continue to stay in the hotel. Her adventures are fun and engaging and had me turning the pages quickly until I finished this enjoyable book.

This book really exceeded my expectations. I expected to like it, but not as much as I did. To be honest, the premise was pretty cheesy, and the book itself started out cheesy. As soon as we got past an 80's themed wedding with a psychic though (what?! who does that?!) things started to pick up. I really enjoyed these characters, even if they did need to be better at communication. I enjoyed seeing how Lucy grew into herself as the story went on and become more confident. Most of all, this made me really want to go to London. The city itself played a huge part in the story and I really enjoyed it.

This book is great for anyone who is longing to travel right now and wants to pretend that they're in London along with Lucy.

I don’t want to start out negative but I really didn’t understand the family blog Communication thing. Could have completely left that out in my opinion it didn’t really tie into the story.

On another note I really loved the whole honeymooner killer thing. It really gave the story a uniqueness and originality!

I really love the main characters rebellion to find her self. To step out and do something she’s always wanted even if her family had a fit about it.

I adored this sweet romance!

When Lucy has a reading done by a psychic at her sister's wedding, she decides she needs to listen to fate's signs. So, when she learns her perfectly organised sister forgot to cancel her second honeymoon in London, she decides to go in her place and have a holiday of her own.

Lucy was such a wonderful character that I definitely connected with. I also loved her friendship with Cary, and her connection with Oliver. Unlike some other 'spontaneous' reads, this one didn't feel too unrealistic which was nice!

Overall, a cute read that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys light-hearted romance!

This book is a lovely reprieve from a constant deluge of bad news going on around the world. Reminiscent of The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren, this debut novel by Macaulay is such a charming book that captures the magic of your first trip and discovering there's a big great world out there! I loved the main character, Lucy Gray, and could instantly connect to her as a young 20-something woman myself. I also love the way this book explored family dynamics (coming from a very involved family myself). The setting of London during Christmastime was beautifully depicted, and if you're looking for a lovely, light rom-com full of hijinks and adventure, look no further. Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with this ARC to review.

This is a book about a young teacher named Lucy. Unlucky in love, having a date go wrong at her sister's wedding, Lucy decides to pay a visit to the wedding's psychic, in hope for some direction. The psychic tells Lucy she needs to trust in fate, and that fate will lead to love. Unexpectedly, Lucy finds herself able to travel to London for Christmas break, on a honeymoon that she is taking alone. Upon arriving, she ends up in a web of lies, along the way meeting interesting people, discovering the city and discovering herself.

I absolutely loved this book. It had me from the first couple of pages, it was hard to put down. The characters were awesome. I related to Lucy in so many ways, from being a teacher, to having an overprotective family and being nervous to take chances. She was so relatable, sweet, funny and just fun to read. I loved her take on everything, her inner monologue and her realism. The other characters were developed enough, I loved each side story. The descriptions of the setting were magical. The story unfolded in a way that left me surprised! But I enjoyed every minute, and I loved how everything came together at the end. The only thing that could have made it better would have been to find out what happens after the ending, I just wanted to know more! I can't wait to read more from this author!

Any way, I am really glad it was offered through Kindle Unlimited, because I totally loved this book. It was a great story with such fun characters. This was an engaging read from start to finish. With a slightly quirky family base Lucy is guaranteed to have a life that is always a little challenging. We meet her at her sisters wedding where she is Maid of Honor, cue a highly inappropriate colour choice of a purple polka dot dress for a redhead and her guest "boyfriend" for the event, aka as a fellow teacher, disappearing into the photo booth with her cousin. A series of mishaps lead Lucy to decide to take up her sister's alternative honeymoon plans, yes she did seriously book two of everything. An impromptu trip to London to stay at a honeymooners only hotel leads to a whole trail of adventures and she encounter gorgeous Cary from her school days but also the enigmatic Oliver who never stops asking questions.

Add in the international hunt for The Honeymooners - a pair of criminals, a quick trip to Paris and a sad lack of rain in London and this is a surefire enjoyable read.

This book was a whirlwind! Lucy is the ultra-organized sister of Marian, who is getting married at the beginning of the book. Known for being a perfectionist, Marian had double bookings for everything-- including her honeymoon in London. When Lucy realizes that the trip was not cancelled, she makes a spontaneous decision-- something she never does-- to go to London for Christmas vacation. Along the way, her best friend sets her up with high school friend Cary, who ends up staying with her as a pretend boyfriend. She also meets Oliver, who is supposedly a concierge at the hotel.

While very well written, there were some scenes that felt a little ridiculous, but overall a great read!

Honeymoon Alone by Nicole Macaulay

I can't say enough how much I fell for the two main characters of this story. At it's core Honeymoon Alo e is a Heart-warming story that will melt even the coldest of hearts. Although this was a quick read for me I very much enjoyed the character development of Lucie and her romantic/not so romantic interest. You'll know what I mean when you pick this gem up. Deep and at times insightful this book is definitely worth a read. I hope to read more about these characters in the future.

This was a fun, quirky book about finding yourself by letting go. I LOVE novels that feed my wanderlust. So traveling with Lucy was a delight. She had such an upbeat, relatable spirit to her, I couldn't help but root for her.

If I'm being honest, there wasn't a lot of substance to the story itself, however, I wanted a light fluffy read to distract me, and this was perfect. It will make you smile, it will make you laugh, and it will tug at your heartstrings. The side characters are fun, and the writing is truly amazing.

I wish there was more to Lucy and Oliver, but I didn't mind that in the face of watching our main character grow and develop through the journey!

This book was such a refreshing read. I like to have a stack of books that I consider palette cleansers and this would definitely be one of them. This is a great read if you just read a really heavy book.
It was kind of like the unhoneymooners except this was ended up being a honeymoon for one. The psychic in the story was a fun catalyst to her adventures. I don't think I've read another book that has a psychic element.. The writing was absolutely up there with other well known Rom Com authors. For me, a good rom com will always give me nostalgic 90's rom com movie feels, and this book did this for me. I enjoyed it so much that I have ordered a hard copy to keep on my bookshelf, because this will be one that I reread on a nice rainy day, sitting on my reading chair with a cup of coffee.

Honeymoon Alone is a very cute and fun read. Definitely more of a nice cozy chic-lit than a romance to me. Lucy is a teacher that isn't too lucky in the love department. Takes a spontaneous trip to London. Falls in love...maybe? I like that their was a little teeny tiny bit of mystery added in. Overall it was a nice, easy, enjoyable read.

I enjoyed this book very much. I thought the characters were adorable. I enjoyed the premise of the unmarried sister being the one to get this done. Then finally doing something for herself. It was a enjoyable rom-com, which I was seeking at this time. I LOVE books that have a HEA.

Honeymoon Alone has it all: personal growth, an unexpected romance, and a shocking crime. I enjoyed the slow burn romance, and I was pleasantly surprised with whom Lucy chose. The story has twists and turns that kept you guessing until the very end. I really enjoyed how the characters main growth was not overshadowed by her love story or a result of her relationship with anyone. At its heart, this novel is truly a book about learning to love yourself. All of the amazing things that Lucy experiences are a result of her self-discovery. Additionally, the beautiful descriptions of London make me want to go on my own trip there! When I finished the book, I realized that nobody was who they seemed to be at first glance. So, that begs the question, who is Lucy? Read to find out...

Lucy is maid of honor for her sister, she has an 80s themed wedding, and also a psychic, who's says Lucy is to start her life and not hold back.
Her sister had booked 2 honeymoons and forgot to cancel the 1 in London, so Lucy decodes the psychic is right, and she goes on the honeymoon alone. I loved this book. It was funny quirky, with a small twist, just a great read.

Honeymoon Alone by Nicole Macaulay is the perfect escapist read for another monotonous day of sheltering in place. I devoured this one over the course of a few hours, so light and breezy was the author's conversational narrative. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a joyful, uplifting read.

Lucy Gray has never strayed far from her comfort zone, content in the bosom of her large and involved family. But when her sister books two honeymoons rather than one out of an abundance of preparedness, Lucy cannot resist the opportunity to take the new bride's place on the unused honeymoon to London. For Lucy, the journey represents more than a trip across the Atlantic. It is an awakening to the need to pursue a more fully actualized and fulfilling life.

This is a sweet, feel-good read that will have you rooting for Lucy every step of the way. 4.5 stars

What a delightful and breezy read! Like most romantic comedy books, this has your typical girl needs new life/goes on adventure storyline. However, there’s just a little bit of intrigue that keeps you flipping the pages.

Place a gal in search of a life outside of her comfort zone, toss in 2 hot guys and then a generous dash of mystery and you'll end up with Honeymoon Alone.

A totally fun read for entertainment.
Plus it does make you start to wonder if stepping out of your own comfort zone couldn't lead to life-altering adventures.

When Lucy gets dumped by her date at her sister’s wedding after everyone sees him making out with her cousin, she is not sure what to do. The answer comes a day later after her sister and husband have left for their honeymoon...A hotel in London is calling to confirm her honeymoon reservations for the other honeymoon she forgot to cancel. Impulsively Lucy decides to go on the honeymoon and pretend to be her sister, but she needs a “husband.” As Lucy gets caught up in a web of lies, you are left wondering if she will get away with it or things will come crashing down.

This is an absolutely hysterical book. I found myself reading it quickly because I wanted to see how it would end. Thank you #netgalley for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for a free copy.

Honeymoon Alone was such a cute and fun book. At Lucy's sister's wedding, a psychic tells Lucy to follow the signs of fate. As fate would have it, that means a trip to London at Christmastime!
Lucy, who never does anything spontaneous, flies to London and embarks on an adventure that she will never forget. I could relate to Lucy's character, who wants to abide by the rules but also needs to throw caution to the wind and try something fun for once. I adored the camaraderie between Lucy and Cary, who helps Lucy pull off a fake honeymoon, as well as the growing relationship between Lucy and Oliver, who starts off as a surly protagonist but turns into someone much better. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the day when I can take my own trip to London and Paris for Christmas!

Admittedly this isn’t my usual genre but with so much going on in the world I wanted to read something lighter and I really enjoyed this! It’s fun and captivating and a great book to escape into!

I was not expecting to like this book as much as I did and I really wasn’t expecting to laugh as much as I did when reading Honeymoon Alone!! This was a funny, lighthearted, feel-good time!! I ended up finishing this book in a day!!

I will say this book started off a bit slow for me and a bit over the top but once Lucy was off to London the book really took off.

I found both the main characters to be a bit immature at the beginning. Lucy reminded me a bit of Gorgie from Fix Her Up. A big dork with a family that constantly treats her like she’s still a child. Some of it is because she’s a bit immature, but we do see her grow throughout the book. It really felt like we got to see Lucy grow into her own person in a really natural way without her character growth seeming forced.

I also have to admit that at first I was not feeling Oliver. It took my a while to warm up to him. He seemed like a bit of a brat at first. For a while I was rooting for Carey to swoop in (who by the way was a fantastic secondary character)!! But sure enough Oliver won we over with his boyish charm and stalkerish ways!!

Really enjoying Lucy and Carey’s scheming more than I should!! I loved reading them plot and gossip together!! Their friendship was one of the highlights of the book!!

And that ending!! I added a star just for the great twists and laughs!! I was going to put the away for the night but I was enjoying it too much to put down. This book put a big goofy smile on my face!!

Thank you to Nicole Macaulay, BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for providing me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
