Advance Praise

“Christians care about children as precious image bearers of a holy God, not ‘mini-mes’ or idols or pawns. Christians treat children as real people whose inherent worth necessitates that they meet Jesus, for even before our children know Jesus, we have confidence that our covenantal God knows them. Pastor David Murray is our most trusted source for biblical material for children, material that respects the integrity of even the smallest infant in the covenant family. Meeting with Jesus is a gem, offering children accessible questions and gentle guidance that can lead to a lifetime of good practices, while at the same time providing parents and grandparents a clear and daily way to put the hand of a child into the hand of the Savior. I can’t wait to buy many copies for my children and my grandson!”

Rosaria Butterfield, Former Professor of English, Syracuse University; author, The Gospel Comes with a House Key

“One of the most important things that we can teach our children is how to think. In Meeting With Jesus, David Murray gives our children the tools they need to start thinking about the person and work of Christ—thought that is foundational for life and eternity. By asking good questions, encouraging close reading, facilitating Scripture memorization, and orienting kids to their local church, David helps set up habits that will be a lifelong blessing for young readers.”

Rebecca VanDoodewaard, author, The Doctor Who Became a Preacher and The Woman Who Loved to Give Books

“David Murray’s devotionals for children have left an indelible impression on my three kids. I’m so thankful he has now extended the series to Meeting with Jesus. My only regret is that my kids have grown up and are now a bit too old for it! But I have every confidence it will serve your children just as well as the previous volume served mine.”

Tim Challies, blogger, Challies.com

“David Murray's five-minute lessons will help kids confidently develop the fruitful habit of studying Scripture on their own. In visually manageable portions, kids are invited to daily meet with Jesus by studying his life, memorizing his word, and praying. Meeting with Jesus is a delightfully simple tool for teaching kids to personally invest in their own growth in godliness.”

Lindsey Carlson, author, Growing in Godliness: A Teen Girl’s Guide to Maturing in Christ

“The name of Jesus is certainly familiar to children who grow up in Christian families. It’s familiar enough even to those who don’t. But how many know him as he is presented in Scriptures, in all the wonder and splendor of his person and loving works? In this invaluable tool for daily devotions, David Murray leads children in this exciting discovery, communicating his heartfelt passion and directing them to the places where Jesus is found: God’s written and preached word and the sacraments. Highly recommended for both families and churches.”

Simonetta Carr, author, Christian Biographies for Young Readers

Meeting Jesus thru the bible is the premise of this bible study for elementary age and up. This bible reading plan is for the whole year and I would suggest doing this as a family devotion. I appreciate the layout of this book. It is organized and simple and will draw your family deeper in the word of God as community.

Each day starts with a few sentences of how we will meet Jesus for the week. Then with a space for prayer called Talking to Jesus: Prayer points, there is ample room for prayer. A second space is Remembering Jesus- A verse is given to write out and to memorize. Each day you are given a verse with a title "Jesus is Anointed" This is followed by a question that you have ample room to write out. Each day is like that and it ends with Sunday. Talking about Jesus that asks the question about your faith. Then there is room for your child to take notes on the Sunday Sermon.

This study is a tool to help your child desire the Lord but also as a family. As a family, together, the verses become a mining field of knowing Jesus and the wonderful salvation that we have when we place our faith in His work. Knowing his work of salvation will strengthen your child's faith and your relationship as well. Highly Highly Recommend.

A Special Thank you to Crossway Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest revi

Meeting with Jesus is a year-long Bible reading plan for children that helps Jesus "pop out on every page" as they read the Bible for themselves, listen to sermons, and talk with other Christians. This plan takes children mainly through the Gospel of Luke but supplements with readings from the other Gospels. Each week, children are encouraged to read a Bible passage and answer questions, note prayer requests, memorize verses, take sermon notes, and discuss what they are learning with their parents or Christian friends. This seems to be age appropriate for elementary kids and I know some kids I want to give this reading plan to.

Meeting with Jesus by David Murray is an awesome Bible reading plan for children that teaches them about Jesus and takes them through the four Gospels. This is a six day Bible reading plan. My children and I have thoroughly enjoyed going through this book and have learned so much. This has presented us with the opportunity for more open dialogue, questions and discussions between my children and I. This has helped us all to grow in our faith and understanding of Jesus.
The books description says:
Following up his popular book Exploring the Bible, David Murray has written a new reading plan for children that focuses on Jesus Christ. This volume walks kids through the story of Jesus in the Gospels over the course of a year. Each of the 52 weekly "meetings with Jesus" teaches a new truth about Jesus through 6 days of Bible reading and includes interactive reflection questions, space for prayer and application, memory verses, and lines for sermon notes. In less than 5 minutes a day, children will get to know Jesus and his offer of abundant life.
I think this would make a great gift for any child who is thinking about salvation. This would be great for Sunday school teachers to work through with their class.
