Description

"A pure delight." ––BookPage (starred review)
"Charming, escapist fun." ––Katharine McGee, New York Times bestselling author of American Royals

Matrimony meets mayhem in Katy Birchall's The Secret Bridesmaid, a modern British romcom about a young woman charged with pulling off the biggest aristocratic wedding of the year––and the misadventures that ensue.

Sophie Breeze is a brilliant bridesmaid. So brilliant, in fact, that she’s made it her full-time job.

As a professional bridesmaid, Sophie is hired by London brides to be their right-hand woman, posing as a friend but working behind the scenes to help plan the perfect wedding and ensure their big day goes off without a hitch. When she’s hired by Lady Victoria Swann––a former model and “It Girl" of 1970’s London; now the Marchioness of Meade––for the society wedding of the year, it should be a chance for Sophie to prove just how talented she is.

Of course, it’s not ideal that the bride, Lady Victoria’s daughter, Cordelia, is an absolute diva and determined to make Sophie’s life a nightmare. It’s also a bit inconvenient that Sophie finds herself drawn to Cordelia’s posh older brother, who is absolutely off limits. But when a rival society wedding is announced for the very same day, things start to get…well, complicated.

Can Sophie pull off the biggest challenge of her career––execute a high-profile gala for four hundred and fifty guests in record time, win over a reluctant bride, and catch the eye of handsome Lord Swann––all while keeping her true identity a secret, and her dignity intact?

Heartwarming and hilarious, Katy Birchall's The Secret Bridesmaid celebrates the joys (and foibles) of weddings, the nuances of female friendship, and the redeeming power of love in its many unexpected forms.

An addictive read with many twists and turns. This was such a fun and cute read which kept giving me serious Wedding Planner and 27 Dresses vibes.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this advanced copy which I received in return for a honest review.

Sophie Breeze is a bridesmaid for hire. She’s not a wedding planner, but more like a PA for the bride and she’s really good at her job. But can she survive the ultimate Bridezilla who is determined for her to quit? I LOVED this book. It has the perfect combination of friendship, love, and humor. It reads quickly and you fall in love with all the characters.

This a unique and adorable work of women’s fiction with a touch of romance! Sophie Breeze provides professional bridesmaid services, offering brides help with wedding planning as well as a reliable shoulder to lean on. Her life is hilariously disrupted when she is hired to assist with a royal wedding involving a bride who will do nearly anything to get rid of her. I felt such joy reading this book as I laughed out loud at the many outrageous scenarios in which Sophie finds herself. Devoted and witty, Sophie is a delightfully complex character with her own set of quirks. I was glad the novel primarily focused on her and her relationship with Cordelia (AKA the ultimate bridezilla), rather than over-emphasizing romance. This book is perfectly balanced and it has all the makings of a perfect escape read that you just can’t help but enjoy. Thank you to St. Martin’s Griffin and NetGalley for providing me with an e-galley in exchange for an honest review!

This book was so entertaining. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and was involved until the end. The characters were complex and interesting. I found the story to be well paced and engrossing throughout the whole book. I was invested in the couple throughout the book and felt all the emotions through both the highs and lows of the story. If you want an entertaining and well written book this is it for you.

I adored this book! It is a fun, light, whimsical romantic comedy about a professional bridesmaid. What is a professional bridesmaid? It is a job Sophie Breeze invented with the help of her cousin. Sophie is paid by brides to be a bridesmaid, help them plan their dream wedding and to make sure their big day is perfect. She is the person that runs errands, books events, deescalates stressful family situations and is there for the bride any time they might need help.

Sophie is hired for a high profile wedding and needs to work with a very difficult bride. She has to decide whether this wedding is worth all of the hard work and humiliation she needs to endure to have her career really take off. This book is full of friendship, family, forgiveness and trust, weddings (of course!) and really funny, likable characters. 5 stars!

What a great read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
This book was smart. Funny. Brilliant! Amazing characters. And the writing was on point!
Just really enjoyed reading this! Thanks NetGalley publishers and author!

The Secret Bridesmaid was a thoroughly amusing and fun romp. The characters were rich enough, but everything stayed relatively light. The bridesmaid duties vignette at the end of each chapter frequently made me snort-laugh, and I ended up staying up past my bedtime to finish it. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this.

I received this novel as an ARC from NetGalley. I loved this fun and fresh story of friendship and love. Sophie is a professional bridesmaid in London and has been hired for the biggest society wedding of the year. The bride Cordelia is a nightmare though and Sophie is developing feelings for her older brother. Watching her keep it all together is entertaining and ultimately sweet.

I love a book that leaves me feeling happy and The Secret Bridesmaid did just that!

Sophie Breeze is a professional bridesmaid whose job is to assist London brides achieve the wedding of their dreams. Hilarity ensues when Sophie is hired for THE society wedding of the year and the bride proves to be less than cooperative.

I sailed through this book in two evenings and thoroughly enjoyed it. Intelligent, witty writing. A strong female lead. An obnoxious nemesis. An extravagant wedding. Friendship. And a twist I didn’t see coming! What is not to love?

Highly recommend!

Many thanks to St Martin’s Press and NetGalley for this digital Advance Read edition.

Thank you to @netgalley & @stmartinspress for an ARC of The Secret Bridesmaid by @katybirchallauthor.

A little background:
Sophie is a kind hearted person who genuinely enjoys weddings and decides to turn it into a career.
Cordelia is a closed off person who has been burned in the past by those closest to her. As a result, she has no intentions of allowing anyone new into her life.
The two meet after Sophie is hired by Cordelia's mother, the Marchioness of Meade, to be Cordelia's bridesmaid.

Okay. This book was really cute. Every character had a purpose and added something special to the story. I have to admit, Cordelia was my favorite character even though some of her behaviors were outrageous.
Sophie was a close second but there were a few times I questioned her passiveness and why she was allowing people to treat her the way they did.
What did I like about the book? I don't have any complaints. This fulfilled all my rom com needs and then some. It was an easy read and there were many times I caught myself laughing and smiling.
I highly recommend picking this book up when it releases in May!

This book was a ton of fun with some actual LOL moments! I'm a sucker for when authors include fun things at the end of chapters that subtly move along the plot (text conversations, email exchanges, receipts, etc.) and this had some great ones. If you're looking for something light and fun (while a little predictable), this is a great choice! Would also be a great read while on a bachelorette party!

I absolutely loved this book! Sophie was immediately someone I wanted to be friends with. The professional bridesmaid was such a fun concept (I mean, this isn't really a thing...is it?) I loved how she handled all of her brides and especially loved (and laughed out loud!) at all of the email/text correspondence included between Sophie and her brides/vendors.

Cordelia was....awful. But I have to say that I felt for her. It was obvious from things her mom had said that there was a reason for this. And every time Sophie would start to chip away and get closer I was so hoping we were getting somewhere, and then Cordelia closed off again. So many parts had me laughing out loud - between the swan whisperer and their conversation in the shady bar.

Obviously the little bit of romance added in was super sweet! My heart broke for Sophie when it came to Daniel...but she handled it so well - and it forced her out of her comfort zone a little! Then there was Tom...and I loved how it was all handled. I appreciated the focus being on the friendship in this story but obviously fully enjoyed the little bit of romance added in to.

I would 100% recommend this book to anyone wanting a light, fun read about friendship and love.

What a fun read! I love a book that sucks me in. It was happy, upbeat, and positive. The writing was quick paced and well written. What a cool job to be a secret bridesmaid and make weddings a happy and easy day for brides! The main character is fun and quirky. You just want her to have her happy ending throughout the entire book. She’s wholesome and the writing brings such positivity. The story was cute, if predictable. I would definitely suggest this as a beach or pool side read.

Sophie is great. I’d love to have her job but to work with Lady Cordila’s daughter I’d have to take a hard pass on that one. You can guess what happens but you won’t believe what she goes through to get the brides down to the altar. The red hair request was a little over the top!

I was looking for a fun, light-hearted book to read and this book more than delivered!

Sophie Breeze is a professional bridesmaids helping brides and their families plan the wedding of the bride's dream. Sophie has a natural gift of helping brides stay calm and give them the support they need during the wedding process.. So when Sophie is offered a chance to be a bridesmaid to Lady Cordelia, the daughter of a Marchioness, Sophie thinks she's up for the challenge. But little does Sophie know that this job will push her skills as a bridesmaid to the limit.

There were so many laugh out loud and sweet moments throughout the book. Katy did a fantastic job of crafting charming and endearing characters that you can't help but love. And even though there are some romance elements to the book, at it's core the book is about friendship and self-love.

If you're looking for a fun, upbeat and wildly entertaining book, I can't recommend this book enough.

The Secret Bridesmaid will be released on May 4, 2021.

I received a free copy of this book from St. Martin’s Press via Netgalley. My review is voluntary.

A special thanks to St. Martin's Griffin and Netgalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Sophie Breeze has the coolest job on the planet. She's professional bridesmaid, where she aims to support the bride, keep the day organized and calm, all while convincing everyone at the wedding that she's been a friend much longer than expected. Most brides are ecstatic with her services, but not Lady Cordelia Swann, who makes it her life's goal to get Sophie to quit.

The Secret Bridesmaid is fun and entertaining! The plot is super unique...I really loved Sophie's job and all of the hilarious emails and texts with other brides at the end of chapters. The book is definitely more chick-lit than romance, but I liked the relationships between Tom and Sophie. I also loved the British phrases and words; it really made me miss London!

While I really disliked Cordelia at the beginning, I found myself slowly rooting for her, especially with the arrival of her frenemie Annabelle. Cordelia is super surprising, revealing layers as she becomes more comfortable around Sophie. And the hoops she makes Sophie jump through are beyond. I loved all the antics they got into.

Overall, this was a fun and quick read that I enjoyed!

This is the best book that I have read in ages! Witty, romantic, sweet, everything I needed! I have never read or heard of this author, however, she now has a huge fan, I do not exaggerate when I say I laughed so hard, I woke my husband up in the middle of the night! I didn't care, it made me happy from the first chapter to the last! I hope there is a follow up with Sophie, the professional bridesmaid, and sexy, handsome, sweet Tom! This would make the best Rom - Com.
I highly recommend! Thank you Netgalley!

FIRST IMPRESSION:

I saw this cover and I thought "My God, that's pretty!" Then I read the blurb and I. Was. Sold! Did I just heart "British rom-com"? "The society wedding of the year" and wedding drama? This is starting to sound too good! But no, wait! A "professional bridesmaid"? Oh my God, sign me up because this is everything my chick-lit heart craves for!

THE STORY:

The story is pretty straightforward. We have Sophie, a professional bridesmaid who is damn good at her job, and her opportunity of a lifetime in the form of the biggest wedding in British high society. But see, Sophie gets hired by the bride's mom, not the bride, and this diva bride is dead-set on managing her wedding, no matter how crazy things get. Then there is the fact that Sophie is working under a secret identity (all part of being a professional bridesmaid), pretending to be the bride's friend. But now Sophie is attracted to the hot brother of the bride! Forbidden love, much? The story follows Sophie's HILARIOUS wedding shenanigans as she navigates through the toughest wedding she had orchestrated her whole life!

I loved this book so much that I read it in less than 24 hours! That's roughly 320 pages in a matter of hours, and my normal quota is maybe 100 pages a day since I have to balance life, blogging, studying and everything else in a since day.

In my opinion, this book deserves to be read based on how fun this blurb itself sounds, okay? But that's not how a book review works, so I'm going to give this a fun twist and list my top 5 reasons why you should read this. Note that's 5 reasons for the 5 stars I gave this book!

1. The first book that ever made me tear up laughing!

Katy Birchall nails the humour in this book! Holy crap, the amount of laughter this story forced out of me (because I try to be a stoic reader or people start asking me what's funny *sigh*) is insane! I locked my room door because there was a constant stream of tears running down my face! Guys, if you need a pick-me-up on a rainy day, THIS. IS. IT! Read this and you'll be on cloud nine. Or wheezing. Either way is fine with me.

2. Heartwarming female friendships that kept me spamming my best friend's messages.

I honestly did not expect the theme of female friendships to play a big role since the book was labelled as a rom-com, so this took me by surprise. At the end of this read, I was so nostalgic about all my friends scattered across the globe (perks of studying abroad!) and hating the crap out of the quarantine solitude. And if I ever met these characters in real life (fat chance!), I would cling to them for dear life! On a more serious note, I love that the female friendships were all about growth, family and fun. Also, I miss my friends, okay?

3. Professional. Bridesmaid.

Are you surprised this wasn't the top reason for reading this book? Haha! Can someone tell me if being a professional bridesmaid is a real thing? I love that Sophie wasn't just desperate for a job and had no choice but to be a professional bridesmaid, but she was very passionate about her job! Sophie's passion was so infectious that even I wanted to try my hand at this profession! Also, doesn't hurt that I'm a sucker for weddings!

4. An empowering, boss babe MC.

Running your own business is scary, okay? I get scared just thinking about it. But it was refreshing looking at Sophie's self-employed life. It might be relatable to many people who are working from home these years as well. I loved reading about her at-home work routine and her setting up appointments, getting jobs done. It was just empowering to read about the female MC working throughout the book. It was also so satisfying to watch Sophie grow into her own throughout the story and I was cheering her on till the very end!

5. The romance was there but it didn't cloud the whole story.

Sophie has the hots for the bride's brother, we have already established that. And it's a very sweet, wholesome romance, let me tell you. But it was more of a side-story, than an integral plot point. And I loved that. The love interest is such a sweetheart and I was rooting for them, but I am glad that that wasn't the most important thing in this book. It somehow made the story richer and more wholesome that way. In a way, that made it easier for me to relate to Sophie (probably our workaholic personalities coming out to shine) and I got so invested in Sophie by the end of this read.

FINAL VERDICT:

The Secret Bridesmaid by Katy Birchall delivers on all the hilarious wedding mishaps, wholesome female friendships and sweet love that it promises. This book is perfect for anyone who loves a good laugh-out-loud chick-lit novel, or even anyone who's missing their friends during these pandemic days. One of my favourites of 2021 without a doubt!

I received this book complimentary from NetGalley but all opinions are my own.

Omg. This was REALLY cute. It was not so much a romance as it was a lovely story of friendship. Cordelia was awful, truly at the beginning of the book. It was wonderful to see Sophie and Cordelia bloom into a beautiful friendship. Tom was more on the back burner but it was very sweet. I love to see someone who is protective like Sophie and Cordelia. They were made to be friends. I really enjoyed this one.

I absolutely loved this book! It was the perfect rom com fun escapist fiction read I needed to keep my mind off all of the Covid quarantine lockdown insanity! I laughed so hard at many points in the book at Sophie’s exploits! I also learned a lot and when weddings resume l’m definitely going to see if I can find a wedding fixer like Sophie! I can already see the movie version of this in my head. I also loved that while it had a romance subplot, the development of the friendship between Sophie and Cordelia was given more prominence in the story. I loved the evolution of Cordelia’s character from mean girl to a good friend. Definitely will read Katy’s other books now that she’s on my radar! Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to provide my honest feedback on this wonderful book!

Whether one defines this as British chick lit or romantic comedy, it is absolutely delightful and such a pleasure to read. Full of both heart and wildly appealing characters, this story of the developing professional relationship that leads to friendship between Sophie and Lady Cordelia is full of laugh-out-loud moments. But there is also plenty of emotion and a seemingly "off limits" older brother. This is my first book by Katy Birchall but it will certainly not be my last. Highly recommended.

I received a complementary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

This book was SO SWEET! It was a pretty quick read but truly a wholesome plot! I really loved that the central narrative focused on the development of a female friendship; it was really special to get to read about and really, really well done! Sophie, the main character is wildly likable and relatable which made this book extra fun! Overall, super enjoyable read!

Whatever you are doing stop and read this book!! I laughed, I cried, I smiled often. This story was a quick read about Sophie (Emily) who is a bridesmaid for hire. I was routing for her the whole time and I absolutely loved every moment of her journey. The character development was wonderful as Cordiella pushed her out of her comfort zone. This book had me reading late into the night the finish as I couldn’t put it down. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. Thank you netgalley and publisher for the advanced read.

Whatever you do, do not read this book in public. If you do, and start laughing out loud, well, I warned you. The Secret Bridesmaid by Katy Birchall is hilarious. Sophie has found a niche as a bridesmaid for hire. Not a wedding planner with her own vision, a bridesmaid there to support the bride’s vision. It is brilliant really. She poses as a friend of the bride and is there to solve problems and run errands. She gets the opportunity of a lifetime and adopts the proper cover story to fit in. The bride clearly doesn’t want her and Sophie falls for the bride’s brother even though he doesn’t even know her real name. When all heck breaks loose, Sophie picks up the pieces to move on. But it ties up nicely, and everyone is better off in the end.

The “in-between” pieces that give the color of what Sophie’s job is like on a daily basis are the hilarious part. The texts, emails, and group chats are ones you can imagine in your real life, but just a little more over the top.

This is a quick read with characters you love (and some you love to hate). It is a quick read that will leave you smiling in the end.

I am thankful for the electronic copy of this book I received from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

Fabulously fun chick lit. Sophie is a professional bridesmaid. She secretly handles anything and everything to make a brides wedding day perfect and stress free. A mother hires Sophie for what will be the society wedding of the year, but Lady Cordelia Swann wants nothing to do with her. She is a bridezilla sending Sophie on outrageous errands. This is an enemies to friends story that is sweet and heartwarming.

Sophia is quiet, people pleasing and is successful at not being the center of attention. Cordelia doesn't trust anyone but her fiancé and family. She can't fire Sophia but she can make try to make her quit. The story throws in extra snippets of other wedding adventures to add to the humor or the story. The focus is on female friendship but there is a bit of a romance potential with handsome brother Tom. And his is a viscount!!!

Clean romance with some cursing. Enjoy on a day when you need something to make you laugh and smile. Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this ARC ebook in exchange for a honest review.

I really liked this book. The concept was really original and I liked all the characters. It took me a long time to warm up to the main bride, but eventually I came around. Sophie was a great character and I liked all the things she learned about herself throughout the book.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I absolutely LOVED this story.

It is a cute, light hearted, funny story about friendship & a dash of romance that will make you feel warm and giggly throughout (there were multiple times where I actually laughed out loud)!

Sophie is a hired bridesmaid, like a wedding planner, but working undercover as a bridesmaid. She's been hired to help plan the wedding of the year which is set to be no easy task with a bride who is seriously against the idea. Sophie is immediately tested and thrown obscure tasks to try and throw her off, but that doesn't stop her!

The friendship that Cordelia and Sophie build throughout the story is endearing and the true love story here. But, we also get a hint of a future love story to come!

A special thank you to Net Galley & St. Martins press for this advanced copy! The Secret Bridesmaid is on sale May 4th, 2021 and I highly recommend you get your hands on a copy!

What a fun read! Cute, fun and a topic that’s new to me. I can say now I’m intrigued by the thought of a professional bridesmaid. Fast paced enough for one sitting or you can linger with a nice cuppa.

I seriously have a soft spot for a British rom-com read. Add in modern British aristocracy, a professional bridesmaid, crazy hilarious and ridiculous brides, mean girls, a handsome Lord, practical jokes and a stately English home and I’m really sold!

This is a fun, light-hearted and quick read of Sophie and the brides she plans weddings for under the guise of bridesmaid/friend. One of those brides is Lady Cordelia, whose mother, the Marchioness of Meade, has secretly hired Sophie. To put it mildly, the Lady has no intention to warmly welcome Sophie into to her wedding, circle or life. Can Sophie plan and pull of the wedding of Cordelia’s dreams and the society event of the year - all while avoiding all manner of hiccups, a bit of a hunky aristocratic distraction and keeping her secret role under wraps??

This was reminiscent of the movie The Wedding Planner, with the interspersed antics of various bridezillas, combined with a Sophie Kinsella novel, staring a quirky heroine who’s always in a mess, but has a good heart and you can’t help but love. The closed door romance is completely charming, full of misunderstandings, and I just wished for a little more of it. Overall, a fun escapist read!

This book was marketed to me as a romance, and love is certainly at its heart – but more than romantic love, this delightful comedy is mostly about celebrating love between friends. To which I say, yes! more, please!

Sophie Breeze is a professional "secret bridesmaid": for the bride who wants to plan her own wedding but needs a little extra support, Sophie will pose as a friend and lend emotional and organizational support. A starry-eyed romantic, she loves her job – until she's hired by the Marchioness of Meade to be a secret bridesmaid for her daughter, former teenaged It Girl Lady Cordelia Swann. Cordelia's experiences have made her distrust new people, and she pegs Sophie as a social climber right off and is determined to make her quit. Can Sophie break through Cordelia's walls and be the friend she needs in the midst of the high society chaos?

It's always good to see writers taking friendships seriously – because romantic love is far from the only valuable form of love, despite how much attention it gets in pop culture – and this book is chock-full of fantastic female friendships. Despite a rough start… and middle… Sophie and Cordelia eventually forge a true bond as they challenge and fight for each other. And, of course, Sophie's also supported every step of the way by her loyal friends and family – especially her mom and her cousin, Cara (I swear, the text chains between Sophie and Cara sound exactly like me and my bestie). The Secret Bridesmaid is a true exploration and celebration of female friendship, and I walked away wishing I could be part of this funny, sassy (you'll get it when you read it) circle of women.

(But don't worry, romance lovers: there is also a side plot romance with a charming viscount, and it is a lovely addition to the tale.)

*Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!*

I find it really, really hard to find stories about modern female friendships that aren't either hyper-dramatized or focused on older women. I went into this thinking that it would be more of a romcom, but it was such a funny, bizarre story about friendship and figuring out who you want to be and being happy with who you are. I wouldn't have been angry if I got a little more romance, but honestly this was such a fun read that I didn't notice what was missing until I was almost done. This was a win for me, and I really think that a lot of young women are going to love reading this story!

This book was so fun! It’s like a Hallmark movie meets 27 Dresses with a royal twist. It had so many laugh out loud parts and such heartwarming and charming characters. it was such a fun read! i literally read this book in one sitting. it was funny, cute and adorable. there wasn’t really a lot of a romance here (and i did expect it to have a lot) but the story itself was so great and entertaining that i didn’t even have a problem with that. the growing friendship of sophia&cordelia and their development as characters was absolutely amazing. it’s a book i will definitely recommend. 4 stars.

Oh my goodness, this was the absolute cutest book I've read in a long time! It was basically 27 Dresses meets The Wedding Planner set in England. There is weddings, royalty, and hilarious escapades! I loved Sophie. Even though there was nothing particularly creative about her character, I found her to be a relatable, sympathetic main character. Cordelia was a fun frenemey character. Overall, I enjoyed the book. If you're looking for a light-hearted rom-com read, pick this one!

I’m normally not the type to give 5 stars to a chick lit/romance book, but this one deserves it. It’s so cute, funny, and exactly what I needed.

Sophie Breeze is a professional bridesmaid. She’s hired by brides to play the role of a close friend while keeping all wedding things in check. She handles everything from toilet situations to dressing up as ridiculous characters for her brides’ themed weddings. Sophie meets her match when she’s offered a huge opportunity for the Marchioness of Meade — Lady Victoria’s daughter Cordelia, whose having the biggest wedding of the year in just two months. Cordelia wants nothing to do with Sophie and proclaims it her mission to make her job a living hell. Throw a hot, older brother into the mix and you’ve got yourself a story!

Let me start by saying this book is heavy on the British verbiage, but not enough to where it’s difficult for Americans to read. I did learn that people in the UK call a bachelorette party a “hen.” You learn something new every day!

This is an entertaining, fun, laugh out loud read. I don’t laugh at books very often but this one did it for me. I also found myself checking to make sure no one was looking at me smiling ridiculously for these characters. I love Sophie’s personal development as she learns to take some chances and be “out there.” I even came to love Cordelia and the way she brought Sophie out of her shell. I think these two make up a perfect friendship and really loved that the book focused more on this than the romance side. Their banter is great and I can personally relate to Cordelia’s reactions as being the more unemotional friend. Is it predictable? Yes. Did I care? Nope! I would love to see a sequel with these two. Moral of the story is — 1. Everyone needs a Sophie in their life and 2. Don’t hesitate to add this book to your #tbr.

Thank you Net Galley & St. Martin's for providing a copy to review!

The Secret Bridesmaid took me by complete surprise. A laugh out loud, women’s fictions I loved the glimpses at all the bridezillas (Star Wars wedding an absolute favorite) and watching the friendships blossom between Sophie and Cordelia. The Secret Bridesmaid by Katy Birchall was so charming and a delight! This story is funny, smart, and the perfect rom-com, chick-lit read. This book was humorous and heartwarming from start to finish and had great character development Every character played a perfect role in this storyline and while there are several romance plots, it is focused on friendship, family, and loyalty more than a sappy love story. It was charming and “smushy” in all the right ways!

This book follows a professional bridesmaid as she plans the wedding of the season in England. I found it funny and loved how the main character grew through out the book. I really disliked the bride at the beginning of the book but by the end loved her. I really enjoyed this book.

British rom-coms are my kryptonite and this book killed me! There were so many funny moments, endearing moments, and frustrating moments and Sophie persevered through it all. Sophie is the friend you want to have by your side, and Cara is the friend you need to get through the awkward situations. I can’t imagine being a professional bridesmaid but Sophie is a trooper and the conversations with the different brides were hysterical. I’m so happy I got to read this book; it definitely reminded me of the Shopaholic series and that’s a great thing. This is the book you need to read during these crazy times or when you just need a good laugh.

Thanks to NetGalley and St Martin’s for the arc.

this was a blast!!!! I really enjoyed the romantic elements, but more than that I appreciated that it was so much MORE than a romance. The plot was super fun and I loved the setting the author built for us. I wish some side characters had been fleshed out just a tiny bit more, but it really didn't impact my enjoyment at all! It really had Sophie Kinsella vibes which is a huge compliment in my eyes :)

This was adorable! Sophie would be my ideal bestie. She’s as loyal as they come and I enjoyed watching her story unfold. My only complaint is that there wasn’t enough romance! I needed more between Sophie and Tom. And if I’m really being honest, while he was a good guy, he was kind of boring? I would have definitely liked to know him more because there were times his personality shined through. Such a cute concept for a story!

Loved it, I love the concept of a secret bridesmaid. I loved the setting and the royal aspect of it all. I fell in love with the characters and the storyline great read!

OMG I loved this book!

Sophie is a "professional" bridesmaid, hired by brides to assist them with wedding details and make sure things go smoothly on their "special day".
The mother of a royal society bride-to-be hires Sophie to work with and for her daughter Cordelia, who is newly engaged. Lady Cordelia is completely against the idea and as a result, incredibly nasty to Sophie, hoping to run her off.
But Sophie wants to keep her client since it would be beneficial for future business so she has to find a way to work with her and eventually agrees to do whatever Cordelia asks, or she has to quit.
The resulting story is really fun, well-written and so engrossing I read it in a day because I couldn't put it down. Birchall does a great job of fleshing out the characters and creating a story so amusing and compelling, I guarantee you'll fall in love with it too!
This book is a do not miss for any rom com lover's book tbr list!

In this classic British rom-com, readers are introduced to serial bridesmaid Sophie Breeze. In fact, Sophie is so good at being a bridesmaid that she has made a successful career out of it. After all, why hire a wedding planner when you can hire Sophie to take care of all your details while posing as your best friend that no one has ever met? In fact, Sophie is so good that she finds herself posing as the friend/bridesmaid of a bride from one of Great Britain's most aristocratic families. Too bad the bride is an utter nightmare, her brother is fabulous but...um, an actual aristocrat, and things are never quite what they seem, even for Sophie. What ensues is a fast-paced, beautifully written story to warm every heart and to prove that love is often unexpected and that friendship can come out of the strangest circumstances. Author Katy Birchall has created a scrumptious read worth picking up again and again.

What a fun book! The Secret Bridesmaid is the tale of Sophie, a bridesmaid for hire, who is working for the royal wedding of the season....and the bride from hell. This book is much more about friendship and personal growth than it is about romance, though it still has that light romantic comedy feel. The characters are all well-written and hilarious. This is the perfect vacation read!

I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Very witty and engaging! I love that the story was more about friendship than romance for the main character. Of course, having a hunky romantic interest didn't hurt!

In a word, this book is charming. It was a quick read that I finished in one sitting, and the royalty aspect isn't overdone or stuffed down your throat. The bridezilla issues that Sophie handles are humorous and well-written.

I loved this book, I really did! I will say that reading through some of the text messages was confusing on who was saying what and I wish that was more clear!

I’m pretty sure I found my favorite read #2 for this month!🥰

Thank you @netgalley and @stmartinspress for an advance readers copy in exchange for an honest review.

Sophie is a professional bridesmaid - the girl who is hired by brides to be their right-hand woman, posing as a friend but also working behind the scenes to help plan the perfect wedding. When Sophie is hired by Lady Victoria Marsh for her daughters upcoming wedding, it should be the chance for Sophie to show how talented she is. But Cordelia Swan isn’t an easy bride and Sophie finds herself attracted to Cordelias off limits brother. Many challenges face Sophie as she helps pull off one of the biggest weddings of the year. Can she do it?

I loved this book y’all🥰 I wasn’t really sure about it going in, but I actually really enjoyed it! It wasn’t a straight up romance, but more about friendships, growing and learning what you want. I enjoyed watching Sophie’s journey and the friendship grow between her and Cordelia. When you find your tribe, you know they’ll be there for you no matter what.

This book will be published May 4, 2021 and I think will make the perfect summer (or really any time of year) read! 💙

This novel is an engaging rom-com with perfect pace, a lot of humour, and appealing characters. The heroine, Sophie, is a professional bridesmaid--basically an undercover wedding planner who poses as the bride's friend while coordinating events behind the scenes. She has recently been dumped by her longtime boyfriend, but her business is thriving, so much so that her services are requested by the Marchioness of Meade for the wedding of her daughter Cordelia, a well-known socialite. The problem is that Cordelia doesn't want Sophie on the scene, and does everything in her power to make the "bridesmaid" quit. The ridiculous adventures that follow are entertaining and the romance that develops with Cordelia's brother is sweet, but the heart of the story is the friendship that develops between Sophie and Cordelia as the novel progresses. A misunderstanding late in the story leads to a final crisis and endangers that friendship, along with the fond relationships developing between Sophie and the rest of Cordelia's family. The epiphanies that both Sophie and Cordelia experience as the story progresses are believable and touching, the narrative moves along swiftly, the writing sparkles, and the happy ending is satisfying in true rom-com style. The Secret Bridesmaid is romantic comedy at its frothy best.

The Secret Bridesmaid is a laugh out loud romantic comedy by Katy Birchall. It centers around Sophie, who is so good at being a bridesmaid that she has made it her profession. Brides hire her to assume the role of a bridesmaid and Sophie adopts a new name and fake story of how she knows the bride so that no one (even the groom) knows that Sophie is a professional bridesmaid. When she is hired to work a huge society wedding, she thinks this could be the opportunity she needs to push her career to the next level. However, the bride wants nothing to do with Sophie and is determined to make her quit.

I really enjoyed this book! Sophie is an extremely organized type-A protagonist but it was demonstrative of how much she cared about her brides and doing her work well. The tête-à-tête between her and Cordelia was absolutely hilarious and I legitimately laughed out loud during several passages (there's a scene involving swans that was *chefs kiss*).

The romance was sweet but not the focus of the book. The Secret Bridesmaid had more depth than simply following the meet cute, driven apart by a misunderstanding, then reconciling because they can't live without each other rom-com trope.

I loved Sophie's group of friends/support system. They were very relatable characters and I appreciated how genuine these friendships felt. Sophie's cousin Cara was one of my favorite side characters and her consistent presence throughout the book as someone Sophie leans on was reminiscent of close relationships in my own life.

This is a heartwarming story and I give it four stars! I think fans of sweet romantic comedies will love this book. I will definitely read Birchall's future books and I can't wait to see what she writes next!

Special thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press/St. Martin’s Griffin for a copy of The Secret Bridesmaid in exchange for my honest opinion.

What a delightful read!
I was rooting for the hate to love friendship between Sophie and Cordelia. Even though Cordelia starts off acting like a spoiled brat with very few redeeming qualities, you start to like her little by very little, despite her determination to push Sophie away.

Secret Bridesmaid was not a romcom in my opinion, at least not in the way I expected it to be, but that was ok it was so much more than that. It was a comedy and there was some romance but it was more about the friendship between Sophie and Cordelia and the drama around it.

The romantic buildup between Sophie and Cordelia’s dreamy big bro, Tom was a lovely side note to the main storyline. I’m normally all about the sexy, centerstage romance but I didn’t really miss it in this case.

If you’re looking for a witty, female friendship comedy with a side of romance and man swooning, you will absolutely love this.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the romance and the shenanigans, but I really enjoyed that this was deeper than a typical romance book. The characters were well developed and the plot did not just focus on the cute boy and girl, but on all aspects of what was going on in the girl's life. This book was an easy, cute read. A perfect book to take to the beach this summer. The Secret Bridesmaid touches on the love and support of family, the importance of having the right kind of friends in your life and that Titles do not mean much past introduction. Creative and fun, with a perfect ending. I definitely recommend this book.

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!

Well this was a heck of a lot of fun! I couldn’t put it down! Between the antics and banter and secrets and royalty angle, I was engulfed completely in this oh-so-fun read! It has the right amount of heart, self-journey, friendship, love, family, and scandal. Gah. I just can’t stop smiling.

What a joy! I highly recommend to everyone that loves weddings and banter! Pick this up! Pre-order now! Do whatever you need to to read this awesome book.

It’s the perfect book.

The Secret Bridesmaid was a cute, funny (um, Chewbacca!), easy read, and has great substance. This was my first Katy Birchall book, but I will be sure to check out her others!

The main character, Sophie, loves weddings and loves helping those around her. One day it's suggested that she combine those two things, and she becomes a professional bridesmaid, such a fun and interesting idea! This story makes me want to look into becoming a professional bridesmaid myself (who doesn't want to be someone else and go to lots of weddings!?!)!

I loved the characters, and felt they were well developed. The story focused on one specific wedding, but I loved seeing the shananagans of the other weddings she helped with through text messages and emails throughout the book.

I love that this book didn't just focus on love relationships, but also friendships. I highly recommend this book for those looking for a fun read that's romance, but focuses on relationships in general more than just romance.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book.

I recently had the extreme pleasure of reading A Secret Bridesmaid by Katy Birchall. I’ll admit, I’m not a huge fan of weddings (mostly because they remind me that no one wants to marry me. Ha!), but I am a fan of romantic comedies. This book has everything to love about your stereotypical fairy tale – ordinary girl, royal hero, a secret (that usually doesn’t even need to be a secret, right?), and a happily every after. Something else this book has… hilarity! It’s not very often that a book has been literally laughing out loud. I’ve been known to chuckle under my breath, or smile because of what’s happening, but very seldom to do I lay the book on my chest (on this case, my tablet) and let out several belly laughs before returning to reading.

Sophie, the main character, has a hilarious habit of hitting the floor when seeing someone she doesn’t want to confront. Yes, hitting the floor. As in, on her belly, and using the excuse “I wanted to see who the manufacturer of this tree stand is, because I’ve been looking for one just like it.”

Another thing that Sophie does is go out of her way to make sure the bride’s she’s working for have everything they want/need for their big day. This includes (to my incredible delight), wading in the middle of the St. James Lake Park in London to “KAW! KAW!” at Swans so that she would be adept at training them to walk down the aisle.

In summation, this book was hilarious, and I will not hesitate to read more of Katy Birchall’s work.

What a fun laugh out loud romantic comedy! I loved reading Sophie and her adventures as a professional bridesmaid. I was a bit thrown off at first by how much I disliked Cordelia, but as the novel went on she grew on me. I enjoyed Sophie and Tom’s relationship and would have liked to have even more of that in the book, but overall I greatly enjoyed The Secret Bridesmaid!

I really enjoyed The Secret Bridesmaid. I love the idea of a bridesmaid for hire and the main character Sophie has taken her skills at planning and talking down bridezillas and turned it into a profession. If you love weddings and wedding planning, you will really love this book. The story follows Sophie as she lands the biggest and meanest bride of her career. She is determined to make it work and does whatever it takes to win her over, including a very funny scene where she tries to learn to be a swan whisperer. The Secret Bridesmaid made me laugh and cry and it is a perfect beach read.rs I love,

Some of the best books are those that you have very little expectations, and they surpass them tenfold. This story of Sophie, a professional bridesmaid, was very relevant to the times and relatable from a character perspective. I loved Sophie and her interesting career - it made for a very fun read! The little bits of client email snippets at the end of chapters were perfectly placed and downright hilarious. I love that the author wove these in because, let’s face it we’ve all known a bridezilla or two with some outlandish requests! The story is one that has been told countless times, but the author manages to breathe a breath of fresh air into it, making it fun but also emotionally-catchy. I really got to love each character and I would 100% watch this story play out in a rom-com Christmas-y movie. Here’s to hoping the author has more to come on Sophie, Cordelia and Tom!

This book was brilliant. It was what I didn't know I wanted and needed in a rom com/general fiction book. I think I was expecting just a predictable rom com, more focus on the rom, and it wasn't that, but also I'm glad that it wasn't. This book was funny, it had me laughing out loud, and gasping at some parts. It was engaging, entertaining, and in some parts deep (ok, semi-deep, but still). I loved it. I really enjoyed the friendship between Coredelia and Sophie and enjoyed Cara has a secondary character. Also, the asides about Sophie's other brides were hysterical. It was the right amount of smushy-ness.

The highlight of my reading this year so far, and I can't wait for others to get to enjoy it. It was such a gem, turning the classic haters to lovers trope on its head. I'm sad that I've finished it, but now thinking about starting a new shelf of books that I should re-read in a few years to get to re-experience as if new.

Thank you to Netgalley for the chance to read an ARC of The Secret Bridesmaid by Katy Birchall. It was so good, I started and finished it in one day -- and that's saying something, considering I have three kids!

Sophie was a detail-oriented PA to businessmen until she served as bridesmaid for her cousin and was so wonderful at it that she decided to perform the function for other brides, for a fee. Sort of like wedding planning, but the bride was able to feel more in control.

One day, she gets a referral to a surprise client, someone who can pay big money and open the gate for Sophie to more brides she can charge a premium for her services. The catch is that the client is the mother of the bride, and the bride wants nothing to do with the arrangement, leading to Sophie's biggest challenge yet.

Sophie is excellent at her job and up to the task, though the bride throws all manner of curveballs. Ultimately, while Sophie does have a love interest, friendship ends up being the heart of the book, and I'm hopeful for more from Katy Birchall!

Sophie is one of those people that would do anything for anyone. She would bend over backwards to help a friend. These qualities inspired a job of her being a professional bridesmaid. She is there to deal with all wedding drama that brides should never have to think about. This job comes so easy to her until she gets a new, royal client. Lady Victoria, the Marchioness of Meade, decides to hire Sophie for her daughter Cordelia's wedding. Cordelia does not agree with her mother's decision. This leaves Sophie is an uncomfortable predicament.

Katy Birchall does a great job of making Sophie's character so lovable. While she is hated by the bride, you are rooting for her to succeed as Cordelia tortures her throughout the wedding planning events. The story is funny, with a few emotional scenes that will leave your heart full. This book had me smiling the entire time I was reading it.

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. This book was wonderful. It is not your typical romcom. It's a creative, yet realistic, idea for a story. I know how wedding planning goes and how stressful it can be so I really appreciated that all of that was conveyed in this story. While there was romance in this, it is also the story of friendship and finding yourself. I finished this in less than 24 hours because but grabbed my attention. I really enjoyed this one. Thank you NetGalley, Katy Birchall and St. Martin's Press for the ARC of The Secret Bridesmaid. This is my personal review.
Sophie Breeze has made a career out of being a bridesmaid! What an idea she has and being able to construct a backstory as to how she knows the brides is great! She is not actually a wedding planning, but she can surely do the job of being the professional secret bridesmaid to make the weddings a success.
The book was a fun one to read and gave me a story that is told so well. I want to thank Katy Birchall for this great book!

Amazing book! Great character development.... Sophie and Cordelia change drastically throughout the novel. Katy's first American novel hit it out of the park in a funny and imaginative story which would be real if the Kardashian's or Obama's hired a secret bridesmaid for one of the daughters' weddings.

The Secret Bridesmaid was a fabulous rom-com. I literally laughed out loud with some of the antics of bridezilla Cordelia. This was a quick and enjoyable read with many LOL moments. I’m hoping for a little more of Sophie’s story!!

The Secret Bridesmaid was a delightfully unexpected novel. When I picked it up, I just expected a cute story about a bridesmaid-for-hire trying to juggle a secret identity while wooing a difficult bride’s brother, but what I got was so much more than that, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story follows Sophie, who, after making herself indispensable as a bridesmaid during her cousin Cara’s wedding, decided to make a career out of it. She gets the opportunity of a lifetime when a former client recommends her services to the Marchioness of Meade, Lady Victoria, for her daughter Lady Cordelia’s wedding. However, there are several problems: Lady Cordelia wants nothing to do with her, Sophie develops a crush on Cordelia’s brother Tom, and Sophie has to assume a fake name and identity.
I liked so many things about this book, one of which was how deep of a look we get into Sophie’s life as a professional bridesmaid. Scattered throughout the book, we get glimpses of the other weddings Sophie is working through emails with vendors, bachelorette party group texts, and meetings with other brides, all of which are laugh-out-loud funny. Sophie’s job is truly chaotic, and I admire the hell out of her for being able to do it. I also loved Sophie’s cousin Cara, who is such a great book best friend. But I think the thing that I liked the most was Sophie’s relationship with Cordelia.
Although The Secret Bridesmaid is classified as a romance—and the romance is definitely there—the story’s main focus is about Sophie (or Emily as she goes by) and Cordelia’s reluctant friendship. The story arc that would usually happen between a protagonist and their love interest—you know, the whole inciting incident, pivotal moments that bring them together, the “all is lost” moment thing—all happens between Sophie and Cordelia. Tom and Sophie do have their own mini-arc, which was a delight, but honestly, I would have enjoyed the story regardless of it being there. Sophie and Cordelia go on a journey of enemies to reluctant bridesmaids to friends to real bridesmaids, and I wish more stories focused on female friendships like this one.

Such an adorable, funny and heart-warming story. A true Bride Wars meets 27 Dresses story! Sophie works as a professional bridesmaid which basically means, she is hired to help the bride with anything and everything! I loved the relationship for Lady Cordelia and Sophie. It was such a nice journey of love, friendship, trust and acceptance. Sophie as the narrator is hilarious. She has the perfect sarcasm and witty comments to match those of Cordelia's. The arc of the characters and how their friendship fosters is believable and relatable. The two characters are so dynamic and it was refreshing to see how Sophie navigated the 'bridezilla' by persevering and never giving up! And of course there is the matter of the ex-boyfriend and the hot brother of Cordelia with "sexy arms." It's definitely a quick and comedic read and keeps you hooked from the very beginning! If you love romantic comedies or want a light, comforting and heartwarming story about friendship, this is it! The thing about weddings is that they make everyone a little crazy, which made this book a roaring success. I was laughing out loud at the antics and THE EMAILS, oh the emails. This was so entertaining & left me with a huge smile! Sophie is a bride's best friend - a professional bridesmaid that can handle any wedding disaster, all while not letting on that she has been hired by the bride. I really enjoyed the interactions with Sophie & Cordelia; in the end, you could see how much they had grown in their friendship. I loved seeing bits & pieces from some of the other weddings that Sophie was involved with. I read this in one sitting & can't wait to read more by Katy Birchall.

A hilarious story that I loved from start to finish.

I liked the plot of the story and found it to be original and refreshing. The main heroine in the story is such an amazing character but I loved that the author jam packed this book with so many other beautiful characters that you couldn’t help but love!

I love that one of the main underlying themes of the book is friendship and how important that bond is!

The Secret Bridesmaid by Katy Birchall Is the perfect balance of hilarious, engaging, and satisfying. The heroine, Sophie Breeze, has created an unusual but very much needed role as a professional bridesmaid. This leads her into secretly supporting brides in all aspects of planning and especially damage control on their wedding day, For those wedding guests looking on, they would never know she has not had a long standing friendship with the bride. In most cases her help definitely saves unexpected wedding drama. This aspect of the book is laugh out load funny. Text messages and email chains have you rolling in all the behind the scenes work Sophie is doing.

Sophie comes to the attention of the Marchioness of Meade to support her daughter in the society wedding of the year. The problem is Cordelia has no desire to be helped and what ensues tests Sophie well beyond anything she has done before. I will not provide spoilers but the book is less of a “rom com” and more of a true exploration of the hardships and glories of female friendship. It is not an easy road to navigate and Birchall has done this masterfully.

Sophie will become the best friend you wish you had as you stand in awe of the excellent way she manages her demanding entrepreneur career. Cordelia will be the one you love to hate but all is not as it seems there either. There are also fantastic minor characters that add much to the masterful storytelling.

Birchall is a new author to me, but she will be one to add to my ever-growing list. I truly loved this book, it tugged at my heartstrings, had me laughing, and kept me guessing. I was provided a free advance reader copy from St, Martin’s Press in exchange for my honest review on Net Galley. The opinions shared in this review are my own.

***I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalleyOpinions expressed in this review are completely my own.*** Sophie Breeze is a professional bridesmaid. It’s her job to be hired by brides to be the best friend they never had and to help coordinate their wedding days. She’s recently been hired by a very well known British, aristocratic family to help coordinate their daughter’s wedding. She’s thrilled to have this opportunity and it could do wonders for her career but there’s just one problem. The bride is an absolute spoiled diva! Can Sophie navigate all of the outlandish requests and keep her wits about her in order to pull this off? I throughly enjoyed this book! It had me laughing out loud. I really enjoyed the characters and the tension between Sophie and the bride. I was cheering for Sophie and her determination to pull off this big event. Definitely put this on your list to read when it publishes May 4, 2021!

This was a delightful chick-lit read! I felt like it was a blend of 27 Dresses meets Wedding Planner with a Devil Wears Prada vibe. I absolutely loved everything about this book from the character development to the clever and hilarious dialogue.

Sophie is a professional bridesmaid. She created this job herself because she wanted to support each bride, but not feel like she was taking over control of the wedding planning process. Many brides also want to keep her services quiet so she pretends to be best friends of the brides she works for. She is a lovable, honest, and genuine character that you root for the whole way through. Sophie makes a big break in her career by bagging a high profile client that is her biggest challenge yet!
This book is set apart for me because while there is a little bit of romance in this book, the real relationship development is between Sophie and Cordelia, her most challenging bride yet.

I loved this book so much and definitely will recommend it! Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

Birchall enchants with a secret for-hire bridesmaid who makes your wedding perfect in the guise of an old friend. However, when she is tasked with aiding a notorious, noble socialite who doesn’t want help, Sophie will have to find the strength to follow through. It does help the bride’s brother is kind of cute...

The Secret Bridesmaid was such a fun escape into a couple of different worlds. Initially, you get introduced to Sophie’s world as a secret bridesmaid, and later, you get introduced to the world of the rich and famous as Sophie is hired to work with the daughter of a noble family. The only problem is that this bride, Cordelia Swann, wants nothing to do with Sophie or her work.

I found Sophie to be highly like able - quirky, down to earth, genuinely caring about those around her. Cordelia was a little harder to get a handle on, but I think that was intentional. Early on she’s tough to root for, but the author does a good job of letting you see glimpses of her true self through those around her. It’s just enough to keep you from turning on her entirely. While there is a romantic love storyline in this book, the real love story is between Sophia and Cordelia.

The book is a little slow to start, but once it picked up a few chapters in, I flew through it. I was so sad for it to finish and to have to leave this fictional world and these characters. All in all, I highly enjoyed this one and recommend it as an entertaining read.

The Secret Bridesmaid is a great romance novel that follows a quirky young woman as she deals with the blue bloods of England. It bring in believable back stories and real emotion when it comes to looking back on relationships with partners, family, and friends. This was just so friggin cute!!! Though, I should say from the start that this book was less of a romance and more of a ‘womance’. Basically, it was more about a friendship than anything else. The romance really was even mentioned only at the 50% mark and then it took off into something only at the end, but well.

The book is about Sophie Breezer who is a professional bridesmaid. Why a professional bridesmaid and not a wedding planner? Because some people are just more comfortable hiring a bridesmaid than a wedding planner. Sure, okay. Maybe? Anyway, she’s a ‘glass half full’ overtly optimistic and wanting to please everyone sort of gal (reminded me of Katherine Heigl in 27 Dresses) and she gets the client of her lifetime - Lady Cordelia Swann.

Well, rather Lady Cordelia Swan’s mother who wants Sophie to be, problem child - Cordelia’s bridesmaid to help her through the process. So, really this is about Sophie and Cordelia’s relationship and how they become friends.

It was a really cute read though. Laugh out loud in parts and sweet and wholesome. I really grew to love the characters and was invested in their friendship and them as people. The plot may have been a little obvious, but it was still enjoyable to read with Birchall peppering in some fun banter and episodes to chuckle along with.

Definitely recommend it for people who like to read about friendships or for a read that feels like a cute hug.

You know what I love more than a sweet love story? A sweet friendship story. And this book delivers.

The plot was fantastic - a professional bridesmaid?! So fun!
The characters were LOL funny.
The depth of the characters was spot on.
The romance was adorable.
The friendship was the best part though.

Absolutely loved this story. Five stars hands down.

What a fun read! The Secret Bridesmaid was such a fun romance, with enough plot twists and surprises to keep things interesting, and I love the concept of a professional bridesmaid. I really enjoyed this, it was a quick read and I think it'll be the perfect addition to everyone's beach or pool tote this summer.

My thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an advance reader's copy.

Absolutely loved this book - full of laughter and laugh out loud funny moments - a real feel good book for just about any time right now as we all need to escape the reality of life at the moment! This book is the perfect tonic and I guarantee you will enjoy it as much as I have. Will definitely look out for more from this author and would like to thanks netgalley for an arc in return for my honest opinion.

It was freaking delightful. I love Sophie and I feel like we can all relate to her a little in the sense that maybe we let other people’s opinions dictate too much of our life. I always love a good wedding story and the drama that ensues. There was hardly any romance in this book but I was glued to the pages the entire time I read it. I love how the author poked fun at some of the more ridiculous parts of weddings these days that don’t celebrate the bride and groom. I loved the mixed medium touches of emails and text threads. The plot was fast-paced and the dialogue had me laughing the entire time!

Aw I loved this book! While it had some romance it truly was a book about friendship. Made me recall some of my own wedding moments and o think I might have appreciated a secret bridesmaid myself!!

Recommend it for fans of Lauren Weisenberger and Sophie Kinsella.

Thank you so much to #NetGalley and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. 💕✨

The Secret Bridesmaid is a charming read. Sophie created a special niche in the wedding industry and is quite successful. Her biggest challenge is her new customer, Cordelia, the original bridezilla. Sophie works her magic and is making progress. Tom, the bride’s brother is also interested in her. Except it will all blow up In her face. I liked Sophie. She was earnest, collected, and good at her job. I liked how Cordelia warmed up to because Sophie took all her guff. I liked how Sophie stood up for herself and even confronted a few people, which I was waiting for. It’s a nice read for anyone looking for an escape.

I was so excited to receive this book as an arc. I loved Sophia as a main character. She was patient, she listened, and she made everyone’s day their best day. I really felt for her heartbreak when her SO moves on with another woman. I really enjoyed that this book made me laugh out loud at so many points, and that the characters kept me coming back for more. I really liked the concept of a professional bridesmaid, too. Don’t we all dream of someone swooping in and changing our special day for the better? Sophia was able to give her brides the day of their dreams, and throughout the book, I kept longing for HER to have her special day, special time, day in the sun, etc. She was so patient and kind to her clients, and I wanted that for her too. I also liked that this book thrived on friendships, even more than romantic relationships, which was a nice change of pace. Overall, this book was a great, fun read! I enjoyed it so much. Thank you Net Galley and St. Martin’s Press for an advanced reader’s copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

The Secret Bridesmaid made me laugh so much. In it, you will meet Sophie. Even though this a pretty random comment, I'm just going to say that I absolutely love the name Sophie. Always have and probably always will. Do I know Sophie? Nope. Did I wish I did? One hundred percent - yes!

Back to the book, Sophie is a professional bridesmaid. What that means exactly? Well, she gets hired by the bride mostly and she is there to help ease the pain. Sort of like the wedding planner but incognito. She (sort of) develops an alter ego for each wedding and makes up a story of how her and the bride know one another.

All I'm going to say is that she is one brave person because I for one would've dropped the ball on pretending to be someone else. So for to keep in character for each wedding - she deserves a ton of vacations, wine, and happiness.

Besides getting to know her, and the awful bridezilla, this book made me laugh so freaking much. I honestly wasn't expecting so many things to happen in this book but I'm so glad that it all did. I about died with the Chewbacca costume because if I saw someone running in that - well, I would have died laughing. Tears flying down my face.

I don't even like Star Wars but that scene would, hands down, make my day, year, and whole life basically.

In the end, I definitely enjoyed this and the happy ending was really cute.

4.5 Stars

I was about a third of the way through this book, and I was having my doubts about it. I like strong female lead characters, and Sophie just didn't seem to cut it. She was almost too good to be true. The protagonist Cordelia was a hair above the Kardashians in my mind, and I just wanted to slap her silly!

However, I persevered and kept reading. And I am so glad I did. There was so much character growth from both parties that I was actually unhappy that the book ended. I wanted to see what the secret bridesmaid would do with her possible next royal bride!

This was definitely a great read, a perfect read for the beach or a mini-at home vacation. I highly recommend this book to those who loved Miranda Priestlys' character in "The Devil Wears Prada," or any other good vs. misunderstood evil!

A charming romantic comedy. Sophie is a professional bridesmaid. She is hired to help brides prepare for their weddings, but pretends to be their best friend – giving the bride freedom and support without a tacky wedding planner. Until she is hired to be a bridesmaid for the illustrious Cordelia – part of a famous family in the UK.

This story had me laughing at many parts. The communications at the end of every chapter were hilarious! I really liked the pace, and the characters were fun. There weren’t graphic sex scenes or a lot of alone time between Sophie and the guy she was attracted to (Tom), which I liked. It was easy and funny! I think it was a great novel and I enjoyed the story.

Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for this ARC. This was an enjoyable read... something I may consider sharing with my book clubs.

Sophie Breeze is a professional bridesmaid. Not in a 27 Dresses kind of way (although she is that too), but in a wedding planner/bridal personal assistant kind of way. She gets paid to be the bride's right-hand woman, doing anything from actual wedding planning to bridezilla whispering to Chewbacca impersonating.

On a previous client's recommendation, she lands a high society wedding that could take her business to another level, all she has to do is put up with the bride, Lady Cordelia Swann. Sophie isn't surprised that she's stuck up or demanding, but Cordelia isn't pleased that Sophie is basically a hired friend her mother hired and will go to any lengths to get her to quit. And I do mean any. Sophie just needs to survive until her New Year's Eve wedding and when her business soars, it will all be worth it!

This book is incredibly charming and dare I say it, laugh out loud funny. No seriously, I almost teared up at the Chewbacca scene - I won't ruin it, but do yourself a favor and read it for yourself. While the plot is heavy on Sophie's growth and the relationship between Sophie and Cordelia, there is a smattering of romance thrown in. If you're looking for a true romance, this isn't it, but if you just want a fun book that will keep you entertained from the first page to the last, check out The Secret Bridesmaid.

So I think this story is more women’s fiction with a splash of romance but it doesn’t matter, because I absolutely loved this story. I devoured the entire book in one setting and wanted more. 😂 The plot was original and very funny at times. Do not read this next to a sleeping toddler. 😅 All the characters were amazing too, this is just great story that’s quick and really does put a smile on your face.

I loved this! Very cute book. A professional bridesmaid is something I had never heard of before, but what a cool concept! A lot of the end of chapter exchanges made me laugh! I also liked that while it did have it's own little bit of romance in here, the story had more of a heartwarming friendship feel to it. I definitely recommend this book!
