Description
“No matter where you stand in your money journey, Get Good with Money has a lesson or two for you!”—Erin Lowry, bestselling author of the Broke Millennial series
Tiffany Aliche was a successful pre-school teacher with a healthy nest egg when a recession and advice from a shady advisor put her out of a job and into a huge financial hole. As she began to chart the path to her own financial rescue, the outline of her ten-step formula for attaining both financial security and peace of mind began to take shape. These principles have now helped more than one million women worldwide answer their most pressing financial questions: How to pay off debt? How to save money? How to build wealth?
Revealing this practical ten-step process for the first time in its entirety, Get Good with Money introduces the powerful concept of building wealth through financial wholeness: a realistic, achievable, and energizing alternative to get-rich-quick and over-complicated money management systems. With helpful checklists, worksheets, a tool kit of resources, and advanced advice from experts who Tiffany herself relies on (her “Budgetnista Boosters”), Get Good with Money gets crystal clear on the short-term actions that lead to long-term goals, including:
• A simple technique to determine your baseline or “noodle budget,” examine and systemize your expenses, and lay out a plan that allows you to say yes to your dreams.
• An assessment tool that helps you understand whether you have a “don't make enough” problem or a “spend too much” issue—as well as ways to fix both.
• Best practices for saving for a rainy day (aka job loss), a big-ticket item (a house, a trip, a car), and money that can be invested for your future.
• Detailed advice and action steps for taking charge of your credit score, maximizing bill-paying automation, savings and investing, and calculating your life, disability, and property insurance needs.
• Ways to protect your beneficiaries' future, and ensure that your financial wishes will stand the test of time.
An invaluable guide to cultivating good financial habits and making your money work for you, Get Good with Money will help you build a solid foundation for your life (and legacy) that’s rich in every way.

When I saw on Tiffany Aliche, aka the Budgetnista’s Instagram that she’d written a book, I immediately wanted to devour it. So, I was super stoked to find it on NetGalley. Needless to say, less than three days after receiving a review copy, I’m done, and I loved it. No shocker there.
A preschool teacher who maybe saved a little too much, Tiffany Aliche had a good nest egg until the 2008 recession when she lost her job, and was conned out of her money, subsequently losing her condo and ending up in a lot of debt. Further back than she started, Aliche just wanted to get her financial life back into some kind of order. As she got organized and started paying back debt as well as building some wealth, she found that her teacher skills came in handy and she could help others on their own financial paths. She started Budgetnista and offered financial help. In this book, she offers clear, concise steps to help you get started reaching your own financial goals.
It’s broken up into 10 parts, or percentages of being “Financially Whole.” I really enjoyed the structure of the book. I like that she breaks down different scenarios based on your goals and situation. She offers possible solutions and trusts the reader enough to decide what’s best for them. Sure the basics are in here like tracking spending, budgeting, entry-level investing, etc, but unlike other guides I’ve seen that tell you get rid of all your debt before you start saving, Aliche realizes there is more than one way to do things to reach your goals, and comfort levels may vary depending on circumstances.
There is a LOT of information in this book. Not only does Aliche share her own journey, but she has guest contributors, experts in their fields to help navigate some of the more complicated but necessary financial steps. I love both her and their explanations and breakdowns of technical terms that you might actually need to be a CPA to fully understand. The book feels super approachable and doable, and that’s the most important part about any how to money guide. You have to feel like you can actually do it.
Plus, there are TONS of extra resources on her site, all kept up to date. Whether you’re looking for an accountability partner or someone to help plan your estate, Aliche’s guides will point you down a solid path. If you don’t already, I suggest you check out her website and follow her on Instagram for the latest info, and don’t forget to pick up a copy of this book from your fav indie bookstore or request a purchase at your local library. It’s coming at you in March!
This is a fantastic book on getting good with money and teaches important principles to apply to your life. It is something I definitely could have used in my younger days, and I feel it’s a great asset for younger generations just starting out their financial future to help in building income and credit scores. There are so many good gems in this book about how to get good with money, and although I certainly would have loved to have this when I first started out years ago, it also offers great lessons, tools, and resources for anyone of any age in any stage of their life. There are budgenista boosters, dos and don’ts, suggestions and lessons from people she knows such as financial planners. A lot is covered in this book, but in an interesting and useful way. I love the structure, the layout, the tools and lessons, and the in-depth information. Many books might teach you what this one book will. Highly recommended.
I was so excited to get my hands on this book! I was ecstatic when I first learned that the Budgnista had written a book because I was looking for a playbook, a one-stop source, that I could refer to throughout my financial journey. This book is just that. It is for the new budgeter, the side hustle queen, and the financially secure. Using her unique style, Tiffany Aliche provides honest and relatable guidance on how to get good with money.
Get Good with Money is a great financial resource that can be used by anyone. In the book, Aliche breaks down financial wholeness into easy-to-follow steps. In each chapter, she provides background information, defines financial terms, and provides actionable steps that the reader can make to help him/her reach each level of financial wholeness. Additionally, there are resources in the book that can be used while you are reading the book and as you continue working on your finances.
Anyone and everyone should read this book. If you are in the beginning financial journey to financial wholeness, like me, you will find tools and resources that will help you now and in the future. You may find that in some areas of your life you are financially whole and in others you are not- and that’s okay. Tiffany’s warm, witty, and approachable personality shines through this book. I am so glad to have the opportunity to read Get Good with Money.
I would give this book 10 stars if I could!
This is the best financial book I have ever read. This book is so thorough and organized. It is divided into percentages that equal up to being “100% financially whole.” Each of the sections goes into great detail about important topics such as “how to pay off your student loans,” “how to build up your net worth,” and “how to start investing effectively.” As a 21-year-old, reading this book has helped me feel like I am setting up my future right. I now have a useful framework for making smart choices with my money. Tiffany Aliche is hilarious and the book feels like conversing with an older sister who is helping me learn from her past mistakes while teaching me some valuable money lessons along the way. Her advice is simple to understand, yet so powerful. There are also worksheets in the back of the book that you can easily fill out to strengthen your financial literacy and understanding. My favorite concepts from the book were how to create a Noodle Budget (game-changer!), seeing your credit score as your Grade Point Average (GPA), a simple calculation to determine how to retire early, and practicing mindful budgeting and spending habits. Thank you Tiffany Aliche!
And thank you NetGallery and Rodale.Inc for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Get Good with Money is a TRUTH-TELLER in its finest!
Tiffany "The Budgetnista" Aliche leaves no stone unturned in opening our eyes to the sickening, embarrassing and shameful nature of DEBT that she experienced firsthand during the recession of 2008, in her quest to ensure that each and everyone of us knows that DEBT is NOT the end of our purposeful lives.
Tiffany takes us back with her to her early financial calling in her Nigerian home by the retelling of her first experience with money and how MONEY can be used to fulfill us as well as remind us that DEBT must be repaid and sometimes in the REPAYMENT there is pain but ,more importantly there is LEARNING.
Get Good with Money is a necessary book for our time as we have come thru a health crisis the likes of which many had never seen before in the form of the COVID-19 Pandemic of 2020. 2020 left many of us with insurmountable debt and now we have been given the blueprint for overcoming that DEBT on our journey of becoming FINANCIALLY WHOLE. Financial wholeness is a level of understanding that mandates that all facets of our lives must be in order if we expect to conquer our debt on our path to developing a better relationship with money, budgeting, investing, and how we view wealth in life. This is MY time to Get Good with Money! This is YOUR time to Get Good with Money! This is OUR time to GET GOOD WITH MONEY!!!
I loved Get Good with Money! It includes so much helpful information and lots of resources about budgeting and finances. I appreciated the chapter breakdown with different areas of financial wholeness and will definitely be returning to some of my highlights to review.
Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend this book. I've read a lot of books about budgeting, and in comparison this book is full of helpful information and steps to take to repair/improve your finances. The author is down to earth and positive - which is a nice change of pace compared to the usual shame/judgement of popular finance books. It includes realistic stories, additional information from other experts, and is easy to understand.
In addition, the author provides additional resources on her website, referenced in the book. I think every high school and college student should read this book and/or anyone wanting to improve their credit/finances.
4.5 rounded up
Thank you to Tiffany (The Budgetnista), Rodale Inc., and NetGalley for providing an early copy to review!
Very detailed step by step process of moving into better financial readiness grade with the essentials taken care of first and then into wealth building. With good examples of people in different scenarios, you can plan well for your expenses and increasing your networth.
This book is good for all American readers as it deals with primarily their health coverage and retirement services. The second half of the book does not apply to all countries, but the first half does give you some good basics. How to get out of debt, how to save, how to create a workable and budget and most importantly why. Tiffany tells of her own struggles with debt and losing the things that mattered to her. Readers do need to go through with eyes open as they need to pick which parts are right for their lives and what they can actually apply to themselves, but overall it was a good resource for someone looking into gaining financial stability.
This is the book that I desperately need in my life right now. The ten-step plan to get financially whole is written in a way that makes me excited to learn about getting good with money. The resources at the end of the book are super helpful.
It's a real girlfriends guide to financial wholeness. The Budgetnista's personal and step by step style of writing makes these life changing concepts easy to navigate. The attention to detail, such as defining terminology and using humor to draw the reader from shame to victory makes this a must read. Grab your notebooks and get ready to do the chapter homework to reach your personal financial wholeness goals.
I have always liked The Budgentnista’s advice. She tells it how it is and is relatable because she has been where so many of us are. This book has her flair and awesome advice. It is a must read for all. Thank you NetGalley and Rodale Books for my gifted copy
