Advance Praise

"Marty 2 is an engaging story of action and adventure. I read through the pages faster than I thought I would. I was eager to move on from every page. There were many twists that made the story even more interesting and it kept my interest right to the very end. Aside from its distinctive setting and plot, the unique characters, such as the talking animals, made the story more magical and interesting. There was also a surprising twist near the end that left me sad and heartbroken. It was unexpected and made the story end in such a bittersweet but memorable manner. Aside from the intriguing magical creatures and enchanting things that help develop the imagination, it also contained important scientific lessons. The most important lesson I learned, however, is a moral one from this story and it is about true friendship. The story was definitely worth the read. Great work! — Trisha ~ Reader’s Favorite - 5 star

E.W. Choate Jr.’s - Marty 2, is the second book in the Marty series. The author cleverly rehashes the most relevant details of the first book, which is helpful for a reader who may not have had the opportunity to read the first book. There is a lot of thrilling excitement as animals and humans battle together to fight the evil forces that keep resurfacing and causing havoc. The author has developed a lively plot with believable characters (even if most of the characters are talking animals) and an excellent descriptive narrative to establish the setting. There’s nothing as good as a riveting adventure to keep the reader spellbound to the very end. — Emily ~ Reader’s Favorite - 5 star

Rarely is there ever a time where the sequel is better than the original. However, I do believe that this is one of those occasions. I laughed, I was shocked, and I fell in love with all the new characters I met along the way. The world was expanded, and the author was able to add some valuable lessons (moral and scientific). —Christine ~ Professional Beta Reader

The story begins with an interesting hook, creating the desire to read more. The characters are compelling, sympathetic, and someone you can root for. There is enough at stake and/or tension throughout the story to make it a page-turner. The writing quality allows the story to shine through and draw the reader in. I would use this story in the library or in the classroom to enhance my lessons. Since it is easy to read, it is excellent for reluctant readers. The story can be read and read out loud by teachers and librarians in small group and class discussions. The story has an even flow that can be read at bedtime by parents to get early readers to like to read stories before bed. —Penney ~ Teacher/Academic Tutor

I loved the first Marty, but I think I liked this one even better. The story was amazing, creative, with plenty of witty banter and humor to keep the reader’s interest. A light, enjoyable read. Awesome work! —Stacey ~ Professional Book Editor"

Princess Fuzzypants here: Marty is a little bird. Ruzo is cat. Together they may an awesome duo of heroes. After the dust of the big battle has cleared, Ruzo is missing and Marty, the King and assorted other friends and allies they meet along the way, all try to find him. But was his capture a ruse to set a trap. As the King and his knights chase after the Blue Witch, thinking she has Ruzo, Marty flies off in a different direction.
As they meet new animals and humans, it is hard to tell who are the good guys. No one has a tougher call than the King who is allying with his sworn enemy who was once his best friend. Is the person with whom he is travelling the evil side or the good side? The King is going to be in big trouble if he calls it wrong.
The story is filled with unlikely but charming characters including an Orangutan and an alligator and an inventor of a flying contraption. It is both exciting and entertaining. It is perfect for the older child either to be read to them or by them. And it has a huge- HUGE- cliffhanger. I am not fond of cliffhangers normally but I may make an exception here.
Five purrs and two paws up.

Marty 2 takes off where the first Marty book left off. In the first installment, Marty and her friend Ruzo managed to aide in the defeat of the Blue Witch and rescue the royal family from General Turk and the Lutebeast army. In celebration of their rescue, the King hosts a gathering for everyone. All seemed good until Marty notices Ruzo arguing with a robed stranger. Then suddenly Ruzo is gone and is nowhere to be found.

The hunt for Ruzo begins in earnest in the second book and detective Sherman is tasked with investigating the clues left behind by the mysterious stranger. As evidence is gathered, detective Sherman becomes convinced that it was the queen of Blue Witches that kidnapped Ruzo.

Learning of Ruzo’s capture, the King gathers his group of knights and leads the troop on a quest to rescue Ruzo and defeat the queen of the Blue Witches along with the rest of her coven.

Marty 2 is a fun read with little tidbits of science, humor and sage advice built in. Topics of buoyancy, gravity, and displacement are introduced which made for an interesting read. Wise advice are also included such as “Questions are never stupid when you don’t know the answer.”

There are a lot of things to like about Marty 2. But there was one drawback which is prevalent in most serial books — the cliffhanger ending. While some readers enjoy that type of plot, it’s not one of my favorites. Granted, Marty 1 contained a cliffhanger, but I didn’t mind it at the time thinking that Marty 2 would be the end of it. But now that Marty 2 contains another cliffhanger, it was a bit of a disappointment.

Overall, Marty 2 turned out to be a marvelous read (except for the cliffhanger.) It is a perfect book for middle grade readers, ages 8 – 12. Four stars.
