This attractively formatted book lives up to its title. It contains amazing stories of animal rescues from around the world: A giant humpback whale protects a scientist from a possible shark attack; African giant pouched rats are trained to find land mines, Maremma sheepdogs learn to guard and protect a Penguin colony from wolves. These and other stories are presented in a clear, interesting, inviting text accompanied by many photos with captions. These are prefect stories for remembering why we admire animals and feel close to them. Author Sandra Markle summed up the feeling I had while reading this book. She wrote, “The stories of animals being heroic are never ending. . . and wonderful! That’s something to be grateful for in a world full of challenges.” This is an excellent book to share with children. Highly recommended.
