Description

Why do some of us gladly step forward while others shy away from the camera or public speaking, despite having something to say? If you’ve ever watched others take the stage— on video, at conferences, in meetings, or even at your sister’s wedding—and yearned for the confidence to do the same: you can. In this transformational guide, speaking coach Linda Ugelow delivers a holistic methodology that gets to the root of what’s stopping you from sharing your voice. You will not push past or manage your fear—but face it, embrace it, and eliminate it. Fast.

Through powerful exercises coupled with real-life stories of conquering performance nerves (including her own), Ugelow takes you on a journey of self-discovery that will free you from the anxieties and psychological roadblocks holding you back. As you work from the inside out, you will move through the three levels of her Inner Freedom Framework: You’ll begin by uncovering and healing the root causes of your fears; move on to restoring a sense of safety within yourself and your environment; and finally repattern your habits to swap out old ways of holding tension, using your voice and expressing yourself in new ways that are aligned with how you want to feel and be seen. Not only will you emerge from this process ready to embrace the limelight, you’ll actually discover how to enjoy it.

This isn’t a book about “feeling the fear and doing it anyway,” it’s about shedding that fear, loving yourself, and embracing opportunities to shine brightly. Whether your audience is online, in the boardroom, in a theatre, or in the workplace, your journey to full self-expression begins here.

Advance Praise

“Linda Ugelow is a champion for those who suffer from public speaking anxiety. In Delight in the Limelight, she offers a fresh approach to transform that fear from the inside out.”
Michael Port, New York Times– and Wall Street Journal– bestselling author of Steal the Show and The Referable Speaker

“It would be easy to just treat the symptom of camera-fright, and, in fact, that’s what most books and coaches do. Thankfully, Linda Ugelow goes far deeper than that with this wonderful and practical book. She helps you not only find and heal the source of your fears but also build the skills and frameworks for you to finally become the speaker and presenter you want to be.”
Tamsen Webster, author of Find Your Red Thread

“I love this book! It is wise, passionate, grounded, and immensely practical. Using a wide range of wonderful stories and powerful, actionable techniques, Linda Ugelow shows us how to access our best selves, and gives us the tools to speak in public with freedom and joy. If you’re nervous about public speaking, or if you simply want to experience the power of integrating your authentic self into your professional life, this book is for you.”
Rebecca M. Henderson, author of Reimagining Capitalism in a World on Fire

“‘Fear is not the villain. It’s the messenger.’ From that line, I was hooked. Linda Ugelow helps you get the message and then act upon it. Her Inner Freedom Framework will change the way you see your fear and yourself. And that could change your life.”
Heather Hansen, author of The Elegant Warrior and Advocate to Win

“Whether you get butterflies when you speak or perhaps avoid presentation opportunities altogether, this book is the ultimate roadmap for overcoming anxiety onstage or on camera. Step up and let your voice be heard!”
Dorie Clark, author of Stand Out and executive education faculty, Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business

Delight in the Limelight expertly guides you to overcome your public speaking fears and thrive in the spotlight. A must-read for anyone who wants to shine onstage or on camera.”
Paula Rizzo, media strategist, Emmy Award–winning television producer, bestselling author of Listful Living

“Finally, someone who can show me not how to mask fear when I’m speaking, but to skip it altogether! We’re so lucky Linda Ugelow captured her message about being naturally ‘you’ onstage and in front of the camera.”
Laura Belgray, founder of Talking Shrimp and author of Tough Titties

“We all crave self-expression—and yet, for so many of us, that urge to speak competes with our anxiety and dread of being seen. We’re often told to shrug off our fear so we can ‘crush it’ onstage. What Linda Ugelow offers is a far more thoughtful and effective framework for approaching the stage or the screen. Delight in the Limelight is a must-have guide for anyone who’s ever felt their soul drain out of their bodies at the mere thought of stepping up to the podium. When you follow Linda’s lead, you won’t just temporarily tamp down panic, you will heal its painful root so that you can stop cowering in the shadows and begin to blossom in the attention of others.”
Terri Trespicio, writer, speaker, and author of Unfollow Your Passion

“Linda Ugelow’s message is so needed in the speaking industry. I’ve been a professional writing coach at some of the most high-end speaking programs in the world and I’ve seen people follow every piece of advice, framework, trick, and tip to overcome their fear—only to be disappointed. This book is courageous enough to talk about what’s really behind stage fright and how to finally overcome it. One of the most important books about public speaking.”
Clementina Esposito, founder, The Clementina Collective

“For anyone who fears public speaking, Linda Ugelow’s approach will come as a welcome relief. Instead of shame, punishment, and force, she comes from a place of love and understanding. Let her wisdom guide you to speak with freedom and ease.” Helena Bowen, speaker coach and speechwriter

I found this book to be not just useful but also oddly uplifting! Although it is intended to help with people who are in public or speaking or having to stand up in front of Po people, the information is useful just in terms of confidence. Although at first I thought that it wouldn’t be that useful, as an educator, and a lot of great tips and strategies to pass on to my students. It also was way more than I expected, and I was pleased to read it all the way through. If you struggle at all with talking from other people or speaking up in public or having to give presentations, this is a great book. Even if you need a little confidence boost? That works here, too
