Description

Samantha and her sister, Lori, are considered royalty in this suburb of Cleveland, as their grandfather has been mayor for 50 years, their uncle is the Chief of Police, and their aunt manages the city bank.

Everyone understands that the family can do no wrong.

But when Lori dies in a bizarre boating accident with a young man no one in her family had met, only Samantha wonders how she ended up dead in Lake Erie in the middle of the night.

The family worries more about political scandal than about their dead loved one. Even her father, a cop, assumes Lori was up to no good.

When Francine, a plucky reporter, digs into the story, the clues she discovers lead her down a path of death and mayhem. She and Samantha uncover sexual predators and a criminal conspiracy that is more than they can handle.

By working with the father of the young man who died with Lori in the boat, they draw the ire of the quiet suburb’s police force. The three of them must fight together to discover the truth.

But the truth takes them over the thin blue line into a battle for their lives.

It may be a suburb, but it has a small town feel as the leaders/family close ranks and hide secrets that are exposed little by little when the death of one of their own and another occur. A grieving sister and a fledgling newspaper reporter know that things aren’t as they appear to be, but they want answers.

Good read with some good characters. Likeable story. 4*.

A strong mystery with great characters and a wonderful setting, with a sense of small town intrigue. Reminiscent of Lisa Jackson, the author has a real talent for dialogue.

A family tragedy, not any family, as Grandpa had been mayor for about 50 years, Dad a cop, Uncle Tom the Police Chief and Aunt Jan runs a bank in a town in Cleveland. It is a family that everyone looks up to, or so it seems, but there are dark and dirty secrets that lie within.
The daughters Samantha and Lori, are sisters and when Lori and an unknown guy Michael have a boating accident Samantha does not believe that the two stole a boat and went out on Lake Erie in the middle of the night. She wants to know more, but little does she realize where this will lead her.
A well written mystery that has many twists and turn and will keep you engaged with the characters until the end.

Samantha's sister died in a boating accident...or was it really an accident? Why is her and her companion's autopsy reports secret? Samantha and her friend connect with the companion's father and a reporter to find the truth. What risks they take! And how sad that Samantha uncovers her family secrets along the way. Actually a good mystery and I was entertained.

Thank you Netgalley for the advance readers copy of this title. This is a book set back in the 70s, with small town events you could imagine still may happen today. It was a good read, kept me interested. I was upset a tad with the dad not seeming to care his daughter died. That was strange. Overall entertaining book I enjoyed.

A good well written mystery that starts with a questionable death and gets progressively more interesting. The main character does not accept the results of her sisters death and pursues, sometimes recklessly, the real cause. Along the way she really gets her eyes opened about her family and the people around her. The book held my interest throughout.

A story that started off as a pretty simple who done it, Turned into an action-packed rollercoaster ride filled with all manner of twists and turns by a city and characters fueled by power and influence. The story is filled with underhanded dealings. To say I was entertained while reading this book is an understatement. Once I got started, I did not want to put it down because I had to know why Lori and Michael were killed.

Ruthless contains a mystery that is a action packed with all kinds of twists and turns. I was engaged the entire time, trying to find out the why. It has some family drama from the main character finding out about her family when she’s on a mission to find out what happened to her sister. This was a thrilling read and I definitely enjoyed it!

Overall, I enjoyed this book, but I felt it was pretty predictable. As soon as I found out that the story was based around a family that was considered “important” in the town, I knew where we were going.
The story centered around Samantha whose father is a police man, uncle is police chief, and grandfather is mayor. Samantha’s sister is killed in a boating accident one night under strange circumstances. Samantha makes it her mission to find out the truth even though the entire town feels as though the case is open and shut. A few twists and turns. The book is written well and worth reading
