Description

Mara’s magic has stopped working—at the worst possible time! With chasms opening in the streets of Bellaryss and rumors of chaos in the lower realms, should Mara seek help from the king of the elves?

After rescuing thirty people, including Arnesto, from the dark fays, Mara’s physical injuries are healed—but her magic has never recovered—and her ensorcelled sword no longer responds to her touch.

Even worse, Mara’s heart is bruised by Arnesto’s long absences and rambling explanations.

Arnesto, however, has problems of his own. His brother’s spirit—along with many others in the lower realms—can’t cross over to the far shore—and Arnesto blames himself.

Mara must find a way to work with Arnesto despite their differences and misunderstandings. But can she gain admittance to the elven king, find a cure for her magic, and save both worlds—the living and the dead—before time runs out?

Another great entry in the Serving Magic series, it had what I enjoyed about the series. It worked well overall and I was glad I was able to continue this series. Toni Cabell does a great job in continuing this, I'm glad this was the finale for this series and I can't wait to read more from Toni Cabell.

"Arnesto continued staring at his glass, and Mara’s heart gave a painful lurch. He looked so forlorn and friendless, as if their future together—which they’d discussed in the early days of their accidental friendship pledge, while she’d been recovering from her injuries—was over before it began. I may not be ready to pledge myself in marriage just yet, but I’m also not ready to break up with my boyfriend. We need to talk things through, without Yelenarra and Zornamayne listening to every word."

What an adventurous story that has nonstop action, fun characters and magic. I love that the strong characters in this story are women and not all men. I like that its the women who save the men who have gotten themselves in trouble. I also like that there is a lot of camaraderie among the characters and that they use their special talents to help. There are some sad moments, but I really enjoyed it and thought the story was Fun, Fun, Fun.

I want to thank BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for this magical and adventurous story.

As I just binged this entire series, this was a perfect ending. I loved the shift from Linden to Mara in book 4 and continuing on about Mara’s story in Lady Reaper. This book continues the fast paced adventures of Mara and her friends. This book continues off pretty much where Lady Spy ended. Mara and Arnesto are figuring things out when things start to go horribly wrong with how they fixed the last problem in book 4. They determine that something has to be done and start researching how to go about that. Obviously, they are led on an adventure in which they succeed and all ends well. The ending is also so cute!

Overall, I loved this book as I did with the rest of the series. The combination of amazing characters, wonderful world building, small chunks of romance, and the overwhelming tendencies to run head first into adventures is DIVINE. As Mara as developed through all of the books, I was so glad to have gotten more insight on her life and abilities that this book developed. I am so happy to see her have a happy ending. However, I do totally want more books in this series. Maybe some spin offs including some other characters that haven’t been highlighted or that their relationships haven’t fully developed yet.

10/10 would highly recommend to all fantasy lovers

Thank you so much to Net Galley for the ARC. This is easily the best series I have read in quite some time!
