“Sometimes my brain is an octopus. It wants to touch everything!”

What a magical way to describe the wondrous and messy and incredible ways that brains can work. I thoroughly enjoyed the comparison of how the brain might process moods and reactive emotions to animals and their commonly associated adaptations. In a short span, this book takes you on a colorful and highly expressive illustrated journey of how minds might work, from the perspective of a child or a neurodiverse mind.

I highly recommend this book for your children’s book collections regardless of whether your child or students identify as neurodiverse. It was magical, just like our brains.

Thank you NetGalley and Soaring Kite Books for the Arc of this children’s book.

The brain can be many things, from a buzzing bee to a slumbering whale. When this brain gets what it needs, it feels content. Along the way, messes are made, but it's worth the discoveries.

This book is a fun springboard for exploring different moods and needs, particularly for neurodivergent children. Yet everyone seeks particular sensory input at times, and this book is a great way to start conversations about what that means and how to address it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC. All opinions are my own.

Thank you to Prasha Sooful, Soaring Kite Books, and NetGalley for this arc in exchange for my honest review!

My daughter and I both loved this book. I loved the representation for sensory seeking kiddos. It does a great job or positively expressing how sensory seeking brains might think a little differently.

The illustrations were the first thing my daughter noticed, specifically the little grey cat. After reading it a second time we were able to actually talk about the book and what she thought. She’s already asking to read this book again tomorrow night.

I highly recommend this book and definitely plan to get a copy for our bookshelf!

As a special education teacher, I especially loved this. The illustrations were great, and I loved how it explored the different feelings and capabilities of our brains, including neurodiverse ones. My daughter enjoyed it as well!

A great books for readers of all abilities. Neurodiverse and Neurotypical kids alike will find the story relatable. It gives many examples of sensory seeking activities children like to do. The wonderful illustrations and fun metaphors can help children identify and communicate their own sensory needs.

Whether your mind is buzzing like a bee or sleepy like a giant whale this book is sure to be a wonderful addition to any library.

Cute illustrations and story. This book provides readers a glimpse into the mind of neurodiverse children, while the back material offers parents and educators some suggestions on how to address sensory-seeking behaviors. Overall, a very positive book.

This is one of my all-time favorite books!!
Author, Prasha Sooful, relates the brain to different animals, and they really are perfect comparisons. Your brain tells you to feel a certain way, do different things, and even though it may be messy, it is fun! From the brain telling you to run and hug somebody, to telling you to be loud like a lion, the brain is an amazing thing.
"It is a kaleidoscope. Full of colors, shapes, letters, and feelings."
My Brain Is Magic is wonderfully written and beautifully illustrated. I will be reading this book to my children often. My Brain Is Magic is also perfect for all ages!

I received an electronic ARC from Soaring Kite Books through NetGalley.
Colorful illustrations capture the many ways our brains work. Readers see this child describe how "magic" her brain is. She describes how her brain feels as she models a number of different motions and activities. From the high energy have to move moments to the completely quiet and drained times, readers will connect with her descriptions. Simple to follow text allows younger readers to enjoy this on their own or with a family or class as a read together book. Adults - don't miss the informative text at the end that offers ideas for helping children work through sensory needs.

This book is filled with brightly Illustrated pages with such a great story to tell.

The concept of comparing different animals to different behavior is so fun! Although my oldest daughter is neuro typical, I would have loved this book at the time of her younger age. It would have been a useful tool, to reference the animals in the book in order to find out what she was needing. I have a feeling we would have referenced the Bee quite a bit!

I absolutely love this book and can't wait to add the hard copy to our shelves at home!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A bright, positive, and validating book for both guardians of sensory seeking children and the children themselves! I also loved that the more challenging phases of a sensory seeking individual were included in the book, but explained in a helpful and empathetic way.

Unloved the illustrations in this book. This book is about a girl who talks about all the different things her brain craves for sensory input or when it is feeling overloaded. This would be a good addition to an SEL collection.

This book is relatable for most younger children and may help some neurodivergent kids and most young kids in general understand their thoughts and motivations. This book is a good way to discuss behavioural and sensory stimulation with kids. The animations are cute and well done. The mention of doing a calming activity when overwhelmed was a nice reminder for kids reading the book. At the back of the book there is a short list of activities and things to try with children who are sensory seekers.

Thank you to Soaring Kite Books and NetGalley for providing me with a free electronic copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Very cute book especially for neurodivergent kiddos. My son was just diagnosed with ADHD so this book meant a lot to the both of us. I would add this to my classroom shelf for my resource specialist students. Seeing themselves reflected positively in books is a huge thing.

My favorite thing about this book was the artwork. I really enjoyed the motion and the way that the sensory theme was present in the illustrations. As an educator who works with neurodiverse students, I really appreciated the author's intention and desire to showcase the needs of a sensory-seeking child. I liked the author's note to parents and teachers on how to help sensory-seeking children to become successful in school and everyday situations. I believe that this was a great way to honor the needs of these children and showcase the beauty in their sensory-seeking brains.
