I cannot begin to explain how addicting this book was. This is going to be an incredible series. This book was the perfect amount of dark, eerie, and suspenseful, but still showed so much tension between Haven and the Sons. The pacing was perfect, and the romantic aspects were woven into the story so well. I’m glad there was still so much actual plot to this, in addition to the romance. We get a POV from multiple different characters, and there wasn’t a single one I didn’t enjoy reading. This literally had all of my favorite things in a single book. Academic setting, powerful witches, dark mysteries and danger, all set in the backdrop of Salem. I am so excited to have read this and I can’t wait to see what comes next in the series.

This ARC was provided by St Martin’s Press via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review!

Wow. Just wow. This book had me absolutely feral. I devoured it in 24 hours, and honestly, if sleep weren’t a necessity, I would’ve finished it even faster.

Hallowed Bones follows Haven on a journey of self‑discovery at Ipswich College, where she encounters four mysterious men known as the Sons of Salem. They may hold the key to uncovering what’s happening to her, and the truth is darker and deeper than she ever expected. Set in Salem, MA, the capital of all things witchy, this story is steeped in gothic atmosphere, complete with covens and a chilling cast of otherworldly beings that kept me hooked from start to finish.

I’m genuinely devastated that this book doesn’t release until October, because that means an even longer wait for book two. And after that ending???

I devoured Hallowed Bones by Lucy Smoke, book one in the Sons of Salem series, and I did not want to put it down. This is dark, creepy, mysterious, witchy, and completely binge worthy. All the stars.

We follow Haven as she arrives at a mysterious college in Salem after being expelled from multiple schools due to strange and unexplainable events. From the moment she steps on campus, you know there is far more to her than she understands. The atmosphere is thick with secrets, history, and something ominous lurking beneath the surface.

Then we meet the Sons of Salem, Ezra, Lyall, Reyes, and Cameron, the last witches of their coven, and they need Haven. Each of them brings a completely different dynamic to the story. Ezra is broody and resistant even when he clearly feels the pull toward her. Lyall is soft and loyal beneath his exterior. Reyes has a darker, more dangerous edge. Cameron, the quiet bookworm, absolutely stole my heart.

This is a slow burn, why choose, he falls first story with a chosen one element that unfolds as Haven learns who and what she truly is. The book balances character development, coven history, mysterious murders, and rising tension so well that I was hooked from start to finish. Learning the truth alongside Haven made the story even more immersive.

The Salem setting and the echoes of the witch trials give this book such a rich and eerie backdrop. The writing is beautifully detailed without being overwhelming, and the pacing keeps you turning the pages. The vibes are immaculate for anyone who loves a dark academy, witches, and a blossoming why choose romance with real emotional depth.

And that ending. I was not prepared. The cliffhanger had me gasping and immediately desperate for book two.

Spice level sits comfortably at three peppers, woven perfectly into the story without overpowering the plot.

This is going to be a top fall read. If you love dark academy, witches, mystery, and a cast of characters you can’t choose between, this is for you.

Hallowed Bones by Lucy Smoke completely pulled me in from the very first chapter. The atmosphere is dark, haunting, and addictive, with just the right balance of mystery, magic, and tension. Even though witch academy stories are popular right now, this one felt fresh and original in a way that kept me glued to the pages.
The writing was fantastic and flowed so easily that I ended up flying through the book. Each of the guys had their own distinct personality, which made the relationships feel layered and believable instead of blending together. Ezra, Cameron, Lyall, and Reyes were all dangerously sexy in completely different ways, and the chemistry between them and Haven was absolutely electric.
I also loved Haven as a main character. She felt strong without being overdone, and her connection to the dark mysteries surrounding Ipswich College kept me desperate to uncover more secrets. The gothic vibe of the school, the ghosts haunting the halls, and the constant feeling that something terrible was lurking beneath the surface made this such an immersive read.
If you love paranormal romance, morally gray characters, dark magic, cursed legacies, and a cast you cannot stop obsessing over, this book is definitely worth picking up. I already need the next one immediately.

Hallowed Bones by Lucy Smoke absolutely consumed me. This book gave me everything I wanted: dark academia vibes, dangerous power, tension that practically crackled off the page, and a cast of characters that kept me completely locked in from start to finish.

And listen… if you grew up obsessed with The Covenant from the early 2000s, this book is going to hit that exact addictive spot in your soul. The secretive power, the atmosphere, the elite group dynamics, the danger wrapped in temptation… I was eating it up the entire time and I am so here for it.

Lucy Smoke created a world that felt dark, magnetic, and impossible to look away from. The chemistry was intense, the mystery kept unraveling in the best way, and every chapter made me want “just one more” until suddenly it was 2 a.m.

This was one of those books that reminds me exactly why I love paranormal fantasy so much. Completely addictive from beginning to end. I cannot wait for the next installment, I will definitely be continuing this series!

I had never read anything by Lucy in this genre before, and honestly, it was such a pleasant surprise. I already knew she had a very intense way of writing characters, but I didn’t expect to get this obsessed with the dark and addictive atmosphere of Hallowed Bones. This book genuinely feels like stepping into an academy filled with forbidden magic, tragedy, and emotional chaos… and I was completely hooked.

I loved Haven Wardwell from the very beginning. There’s something incredibly powerful about her, even while she’s still trying to understand what it means to be the first witch born in centuries. And then there’s Ezra, Cameron, Lyall, and Reyes… honestly, Lucy Smoke knows exactly how to write morally gray male characters that make you question every decision. Each of them brings a completely different energy, but together they create this constant tension that makes the book impossible to put down.

I also absolutely loved the dark academia atmosphere. Ipswich Academy practically becomes another character in the story, the haunted hallways, the family secrets, the dark gods, the hidden societies, and that constant feeling that something terrible is about to happen. Everything has this gothic, obsessive aesthetic that fits perfectly with the dark romance and paranormal elements.
And honestly, I think what surprised me the most was how easy it was to get completely immersed in the story. Even when things become chaotic or intense, the pacing never felt off to me. Haven and the Sons of Salem have such a tension-filled dynamic, full of secrets and emotional need, that I ended up devouring every single scene between them.

If you love dark paranormal romances with magic, gothic academies, possessive heroes, and broken characters trying to survive something far bigger than themselves, this book is definitely worth reading. And now I desperately need the next one because Lucy Smoke completely pulled me into this world.
