A cute Halloween addition to the Very Nutty series. A simple book, but a great prequel to read before doing any pumpkin carving!

What a precious little story!!! I absolutely love the graphics and the step by step directions on how the three Acorn brothers cleaned and safely carved their pumpkin for Halloween. My grand-muffin is going to adore this book – it’s too darn cute! This honest review is offered in exchange for a digital copy from Netgalley. with a special thanks to Jody Hildreth

I seldom get a good big smile from a Halloween book, but this provided one – the story of three characters turning a pumpkin much bigger than them into a jack o'lantern. The characters are clearly made of twigs and acorns – as is their ladder, their wheelbarrow and so much more – and yet the poses and characterisation are really strong. The book ignores the authorised begging that the festival has turned into, gives just enough story for the intended audience, and shows a creativity that will prove to many a young reader just how difficult it actually is, if they think it something they can match. Four warming stars.

A Very Nutty Halloween is a fun journey with an acorn family in picking their pumpkin for Halloween, cleaning all the guts out of it (and throwing them at each other!), and cutting and decorating the jack-o-lantern! I totally love the artwork in this book. The acorn people are a trip! Great to encourage kids' creativity and to celebrate autumn holidays!

Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this advanced review copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest review on the book!

Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to have a copy of this book in return for a review. I really enjoyed this book. So did my 7 year old when I read it to her. She giggled, said “Ew” during the slimy part, and loved the 3 brothers expressions.

Cute short read for Halloween with kiddos. I will definitely look at buying my own copy when it comes out.

This is just a cute story about the nutty family going about craving a pumpkin and being safe while doing it. The pictures in this book were very well crafted love the imagine of Jody Hildreth. I think young kids will enjoy this around Halloween or before craving their pumpkins.

Full of action shots of a family of acorns carving a pumpkin, this book is definitely nutty as the title says. I thought this was acute Halloween story with creative imagery. Each page seemed the same for the most oft though so it got a little repetitive. I really enjoyed the first page with the background instead of the white that was used on most of the pages. My three year old son liked this book and since he is the audience, that’s what matters. This was enjoyable overall, but by no means my favorite Halloween book to read to my kids.

Perfect story to get ready for fall and halloween. This adorable story was a big hit with us. My little ones loved it. My 4 year old insisted we read it over and over again. He was fascinated by the acorn characters and loved how they get ready for halloween. We are a huge Halloween family and this book gets us ready to have fun. I loved the playful characters. The life-like pictures are phenomenal and make this book absolutely perfect. I received this as an ARC but I will have to buy this for our home. I highly recommend this book for families and for anyone who loves fall and Halloween. I also suggest it for early childhood classrooms to enjoy. You are going to love this little adventure. We sure do.

This is the story of a trio of acorn brothers who decide to celebrate Halloween by carving a jack-o-lantern for themselves. They work together, dividing up the hard work of getting rid of the slimy guts, and - of course - drawing on an acorn face!

It's a cute story, and the fact that the pumpkin is much bigger than the three of them makes it even cuter. I would have liked to see more colour and detail in the illustrations, but I did like the way that the brothers' twig-like bodies and their expressions were rendered.

All in all, a good effort. A bit more polishing of the story and pictures would have improved it even further.

This was an adorable story and I just adored the acorn family and their antics while carving the pumpkin. At first I wasn't sure what to expect given the real objects used in the images. However, they were nicely done and was my favorite part of the book.

A colorfully illustrated holiday book for young children. I think they'd be drawn to the vibrant orange color in the drawings. I also think they'd enjoy the nuttiness of the characters being an acorn family. The Acorn brothers have a delightful pumpkin ready to carve for Halloween. Illustrated pictures show how the acorn family does this including jumping into the pumpkin and experiencing the slimy insides. Mellow and slow paced, would be a nice bedtime story for children as they are learning.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book.
