Thank you Udon Entertainment, Manga Classics Inc., and NetGalley for the advanced electronic review copy of this book. I enjoyed this quick read based on Chinese mythology. Vibrant color palette and detailed art greatly enhanced the overall story as well as the reading experience. I also liked the inclusion of the backstory and the explanation on how to read manga for those who are new to the genre and style. Hopefully we would see the manga adaptation of the rest of the story in the future.

I saw this title, looked at the the Monkey King's design, and went, "Yes, the artist understood the assignment." Dragon Ball references aside, this is a good introduction to one of the most famous works of literature in the world. The story was easy to follow, and the art is very nice, like most in the manga classics line. If you've never experienced this work outside of Dragon Ball being a light retelling of it, this is a good way to jump in!
I very much enjoyed this book. The art was terrific, clear, dynamic. This manga was mythology oriented, rather than super-hero oriented. The mythology was stunning, fun, creative and detailedl, It included additional stories within the main story and this made it an even more immersive reading experience. the characters included purely human characters and characters that were animal/people--giving them powers and experiences different from the purley human characters.
The book included a short managa reading guide at the beginning for readers who may be less familiar with the Japanese style of manga text and illustration. At the ned, the book also included illustrations of character design concepts.

This is actually the first Manga Classics I've read and omg it was so much fun! The Journey West is one of my favorite stories of all times and I absolutely love the different retellings that have come down throughout the years, but honestly this may be my favorite. I mean like I marginally like it more than A Korean Odyssey, which is my very favorite remake. The art is absolutely amazing here and the action is nonstop. I think what makes this so well done though is the fact that it is in manga form. For those who may not be into reading the original story this is a perfect alternative. It's also perfect for the middle grade and higher readers out there.
Highly recommend this one and I will definitely be following this series!
As always thanks to Netgalley and Udon Entertainment for the eArc!
