This is an adorable story about the Sunshine Squad, a group of kids who live on Sunshine Street and hang out together.

Mia and her grandmother head off to the community plots, because Mia has been kind enough to offer to help Mr Angelo with his vegetable garden while he is recovering from an illness.

When her friends try to help, Mia declines their assistance because she is convinced she can do it all by herself. Even though her grandmother advises her to take the help. Mia soon discovers her mistake! Luckily, her friends are still willing to assist.

The story is packed with jokes, gardening inspiration and cute illustrations. And it also demonstrates the value of teamwork very effectively. Recommended for the kids in your life.

In this story, the people of the neighborhood spread kindness and happiness. Everyone does something small and it makes an impact. It is a good example for young readers.

In general, I love reading about heartwarming stories with characters in a community helping each other.

This is one such book. A group of kids come together when one of the elderly falls sick and not going to be able to tend to their garden.

I just love the writing, the characters and the jolly bright colourful illustrations. This book is so wholesome. Definitely one of the best children’s books I have read so far.

Going to recommend it lots!

Thank you, Charlesbridge, for the advance reading copy.

We adore the Chicken Soup for the Soul books and we are so happy to find that there is a series for children. This picture book is a wonderful way to show children the importance of friendship, being a community and helping each other always. In this story Mia is helping her neighbor Mr. Angelo takes care of his garden while he isn't feeling well. Thinking she doesn't need help she tries on her own and quickly learns it is much harder than she thought alone. Soon her friends who are a part of the Sunshine Squad work together and help her to tackle the hard job. I love how Mia’s abuela reminds her that it is okay to ask for help. We all need help sometimes. They soon learn that they can make things work better together. I love this book's illustrations, they are so colorful and full of life. They simply add to the amazon story creating a lovable and relatable story that children and families can enjoy together. You will want to share and enjoy this book.

So many things to love about this book. Mia learns that help from your friends is nice and fun. There’s great diversity in this book. It also talks about city vegetable gardens. This is my honest review of this ARC. Highly recommend. The story is engaging and heartwarming.

I really love the message of the story, about the importance of being a team player, even when you think you can do it yourself, that when you realize you can not do it alone it’s ok to ask for help, many hands make less work. Being a team player is about working together you achieve the best result for everyone. The artwork is beautiful too.

This is a cute book that helps kids learn how to garden. If it wasn’t cold and snowing right now I’d go work on my own garden.

This was a great book about team work! It showed how sometimes wanting to do things on your own, and being independent is not always the right and or smart choice. That sometimes we need help to accomplish a big task.

The Sunshine Garden: Being a Team Player is a fun illustrated story with a good message written by Jamie Michalak and illustrated by Jenna Nahyun Chung. Released 19th March 2024 by Charlesbridge, it's 32 pages and available in hardcover format. Ebook due out from the same publisher April 30th 2024.

This is a fun book with colorful illustrations and simple text and a good message about teamwork, compassion, and caring for our planet and each other. Mia's neighbor, Mr. Angelo, isn't feeling well, so Mia agrees to help take care of his garden plot in the local community garden. With her friends' enthusiastic help and creativity, they do the job and still have time for fun.

It's a short book (32 pages) and the simple free (non rhyming) text will be a good read for youngsters who are beyond the basics with reading skills. Lexile measurement for this book is AD560L and it's recommended for ages 4-7 years. The cast of characters are ethnically diverse, and it's never pointed out, just a natural part of the book, which is lovely.

Four and a half stars. It would be a good choice for public or school library acquisition, home use, reading circle, or gift giving. The author/publisher have also included a short list of activity prompts at the back of the book for facilitators/teacher/parent or reader use.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Chicken Soup for the Soul KIDS: The Sunshine Garden: Being a Team Player by Jamie Michalak is a great book about community and helping others. Chicken Soup for the Soul KIDS: The Sunshine Garden: Being a Team Player is about Mia helping her Abuela take care of their Community Garden. Mia thinks that they can take care of the Garden all by themselves. Mia soon finds out that they need the help of her friends. I like the aspect of the Community Garden in the book and how it shows how we all can come together.. The book was also beautifully illustrated. Chicken Soup for the Soul KIDS: The Sunshine Garden: Being a Team Player would be a book to read during any setting. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book.
