I love the style and tone of this book.Easy to read and to put into practice! I never thought that tarot could help me unblock my creativity. My muse is back! Ideas keep flowing now,
"Tarot for Creativity" is a true delight! As a web/graphic designer, I found its innovative blend of tarot and creativity captivating. The creative prompts and spreads were undeniably unique, offering fresh perspectives and unlocking new levels of inspiration. However, I didn't quite resonate with either the artwork or the typography, as the latter was jarring and hard to read at times. Nevertheless, the book's content was top-notch and its approach to tarot truly refreshing. I'm eager to explore further and highly recommend it to fellow tarot enthusiasts looking to spark their creative journey!
I enjoyed learning more about tarot. I just had a tarot reading and saw this title! Divine timing. The content was interesting and presented in such a good way. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
I loved the ARC of this book so much that I actually just pre-ordered a print version. This is such a fun way to use tarot and enhance your creativity. Great as a beginner's guide, or for advanced who are looking for creative guidance. I love that it goes deep into each card and suggestions on creative projects. A super fun book I'm looking forward to having in hardback. Thank you to Netgalley, the author, and the publisher for allowing me to read and review.
Very helpful book for Tarot Learners! It puts your knowledge and mind to a test with thy self and the brain
I happen to think this book is pretty neat. I like the artwork and I think it complements this book well. I honestly don't know too much about tarot beyond the very basics. I like how the book is formatted. I really like the ideas for using the tarot to help with your creativity. The author's recommendation to keep a "tarot journal" is a fabulous idea. I will be starting my own tarot journal while I reread and work through this book. I think this book would be good for anyone wanting a brief introduction to tarot and those that would like to try different ways of using the tarot. This book would make a good gift too. Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC!
This book is a very useful reference when looking at tarot as a creative outlet and how to read the cards in that view. They do include prompts to help as well!
This book helped be connect with my tarot cards to bolster my creativity. I would highly recommend Tarot for Creativity to creative types who already read tarot or those who are looking to connect with a deck.
There is so much to like about this book! I enjoyed the descriptions of each card, the creative prompts and the specific spreads for exploring how each card is a part of the creative journey. A few years ago, I picked up a copy of Mapping the Hero's Journey with Tarot by Arwen Lynch which I used to plot several stories and a couple novels. Because that book introduced me to using Tarot for creativity, I was excited to read Tarot for Creativity, and was not disappointed. It would be fun to use both books in tandem. The only thing I didn't like about about the book was the modern illustrations of the cards. The author talks about the Smith-Waite deck throughout the book, and I would have liked to see the traditional illustrations instead of the jarring colors and outlines of the modern deck illustrations. Otherwise, I liked the design and organization of the book. I would recommend Tarot for Creativity to any creative that enjoys symbolism and wants to focus on their process as much as their product. Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to be an early reader of this book.
This is a super fun and interesting take on tarot! I loved all of the spreads and plan to use this book to enhance my creative processes moving forward!
I always love a Tarot workbook! This title is great for when you feel like you need to "unlock" your creativity after a stint. Insightful and delightful to read / work through. Suitable for anyone interested in tarot, beginners welcome! Also fun to work with multiple decks as there is a wide variety of imagery for each deck and that alone can be provoking within different types of readings! Thank you Netgalley and Chronicle Books for access to this wonderful title!
Tarot for Creativity is so incredibly helpful for all creatives. I was going through a HUGE art block & by working with this book and doing the journal prompts & some card draws, I finally snapped out of it. This book goes into each card (both Major and Minor Arcana) and describes what each one means, along with activities and spreads you can do based on each card. There’s also a section that gives you more general spreads you can do & even an example of how the author reads it! Definitely gonna add a physical copy to my shelf.
This is a great book on Tarot. There's a page for every card, a nice, easy-to-understand description of each card and how it relates to creativity. Then my personal favorite? A diagram of the card spread, cards are numbered, and the question each one represents is literally written on the card.
I like how each of the card spreads are 1-4 cards each. Nothing complicated. Then, the back of the book has some more advanced spreads with more cards but are again, labeled with the number and the question as well as a description of the spread and how to use it.
I definitely have a couple of friends that I will be recommending this book to.
As someone who uses a tarot deck occasionally for mindfulness and intention, the idea of using it to help creativity really excites me. I really enjoyed a new analysis of each card, and what the author shared for prompts and spreads based on each card. I look forward to using this and recommending it to others!
This book came to me at just the right time! I am at a crossroads in my creative practice, with many disorganized ideas and questions about where to go next. I also recently got a “create-your-own” tarot deck, and I think this book will be the perfect companion, letting me explore creative ideas while manifesting them on the cards. I’ve pre-ordered the paperback book and will eagerly get started with the ebook.
The author takes a creative, contemporary and positive approach to tarot, reframing the cards to reflect on how they might work with a creative practice. Each card has prompts (including such activities as journaling, creating an artwork reflecting the card, or even writing and filming a short script. For each card, there is a mini spread and instructions on how to pull and read it (an appendix has several more in-depth spreads).
As with tarot practice itself, when something comes into your life unexpectedly, it’s up to you to listen. Thanks to the universe for putting this in my path, and to Chronicle Books and NetGalley for the chance to review this ARC.
Full of inspiring prompts and insights, this title offers something for complete tarot beginners and advance practitioners alike.
As a creative and a tarot enthusiast, I was so excited to read this book. Overall I can see this being a useful book to have on my shelf. The author provides prompts and spreads for each card, along with descriptions of the cards as they relate to creative work. There's also an appendix with several general spreads for creativity. Readers can use these prompts and spreads to help solve different issues one encounters as a creative (especially creatives who are also entrepreneurs), like overcoming creative blocks or figuring out where to focus one's energy when it comes to their business/creative work. I generally agreed with the descriptions for each card, or could see why the author would interpret them that way, but there were a few that seemed kind of off-base or like a missed opportunity for a different interpretation. I also want to mention that the artwork for the cards did not speak to me at all but as we all know, art (like tarot) is subjective. Thank you to NetGalley, the publishers, and the author for an advanced copy.
Love all thing Tarot as I’ve became obsessed with it this year - and now have almost 10 decks! I always read any an all tarot books I can get
This is a book to read, re-read, and return to over and over again. The bright colors but simple palette of the deck used for illustrations adds energy and flow to what might otherwise be an overwhelming amount of information, and the fact that every card has been provided with its own context, creative prompts, and unique spread breaks up that mountain of information in an engaging and accessible way. Readers can engage with the images, the text, or the hands on activities as they choose, turning the act of reading the book into the same sort of creative journey the book is encouraging the reader to undertake in their larger life.
Ideal for a library with an active crafting or creative community, this book will circulate well with the patrons who attend library programming focused on the arts as well as with patrons who are exploring college, career, and entrepreneurial options in their lives. While perhaps not a conventional book club choice, this book would make a fascinating focus for a reading group! Thank you to NetGalley for access to this intriguing and informative arc.
I enjoy this new take on Tarot! Tarot for creativity is not really something I would have thought of, or thought to put the two together. I love when someone shares their new take or out of the box thoughts on a practice or object I use with me. The artwork was great and the book itself is helpful with breaking out of a rut or slump.
This book is so fun. I am just starting to get into Tarot and it includes a wealth of information, much more than I expected. I like the table of contents and how the book was organized into sections. I would recommend this to anyone who is into either Tarot or a creative, I think they would enjoy it.
This is a very in depth book about the Tarot and different ways to use your deck. It is also a very clear and straightforward book which I like.
There is a very interesting introduction to Tarot decks and then each card is described alongside prompts and spreads.
The journal prompts and spreads at the end of the book are thoughtful and insightful.
Tarot for Creativity is an essential book which makes the Tarot accessible and fascinating, if you are creative in any way which most of us are and interested in Tarot decks, I would recommend this book.
I honestly haven't seen a tarot book quite like this before. I thought it would be a book with prompts or craft activities, but it is much more. The author shares an approachable and modern view of tarot framing the cards to reflect on how they might represent the artist and their craft. The book includes detailed descriptions of each tarot card and prompts for writing, visual art, meditation, and other activities. Moreover, there's a mini spread for all 52 cards to explore their meanings further. The appendix offers an example of how to interpret a spread, which is especially helpful for beginners looking to enhance their tarot skills.
I appreciate the author's inclusive and practical approach to creativity. They write, "It is impossible to be human and not be creative." Both art and tarot can feel mysterious and exclusive. It's wonderful to find such a welcoming message here. I would recommend this book to any artist with a tarot practice. It is suitable for both beginners and intermediate tarot practitioners.
Tarot for Creativity by Chelsey Pippin Mizzi is a fantastic book for anyone who would like to incorporate tarot into their creative projects. I can also see this book being used as a guide to work through the entire 78 cards of the tarot to learn archetypes and meanings through a creative process.
I appreciate the layout of the table of contents, clearly stating each card and it's topic. A card could be drawn at random and then follow along with the corresponding chapter, or choose a card by its listed theme.
Thank you NetGalley and Chronicle Books for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I wasn't sure exactly what to expect with this book and I was pleasantly surprised. The book is broken down by card and has specific prompts for each one as well as a guide on how to interpret the meaning of the card in relation to your creative endeavors. I'm reviewing this at work, but I can't wait to sit down at home with my own cards and put some of it into practice. I would recommend this to any artist, writer, creator, or practitioner looking to expand their craft. Thank you Chelsea Pippin Mizzi, Chronicle Books, and NetGalley for the chance to review this ARC.
I recently purchased a tarot deck so when I saw this book, I had to read it. This book taught me a lot and I definitely want to purchase the physical copy.
This is a great book that serves as an introduction to tarot but also shows how you can use it for creativity. There are exercises throughout the book, with each section, showing how to bring out and build your creativity. This book is very thorough, practical, and easy to read, while also being fun and providing a lot of activities to keep you endlessly engaged. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
I loved the idea of this prior to starting it - I’m still recently out of the worst depression of my life and during this period, I lost all my creative urges / drive and it saddens me that creativity, which was such a natural state for me, no longer seems to be. Therefore, I wanted to read this, to see if I could (hopefully) kickstart my creativity with this guide.
The book is well written, and The layout is clean with the card pages in bright, vivid colors. The text goes into the creativity behind each card, gives examples of spreads, offers prompts and exercises.
I’m so thankful I had the opportunity to read an early copy of Tarot for Creativity: I was impressed and pleased during my reading - it’s a comprehensive read with suggestions and exercises that are easy to put into practice. I really found a lot within the pages, and it’s a title I’ll be getting for my own bookshelf.
Thank you to Chronicle Books and NetGalley for the PDF
Tarot for Creativity by Chelsey Pippin Mizzi is a fantastic guide that I highly recommend. It brilliantly shows how tarot can inspire creativity, offering practical insights and exercises for any creative pursuit. The vibrant artwork and accessible explanations make it a must-read for anyone looking to enhance their creative practice. I loved it!
A unique and fresh approach to the tarot and a valuable resource and tool for readers. Author Chelsey Pippin Mizzi has created an engaging journey through the tarot through the lens of creativity. Each card is featured with a description, a creative prompt, *and* a special card reading spread with a specific layout and questions. A really novel approach and a great resource for any tarot reader and especially for those who engage in creative activities. The author makes it clear that creativity isn't just for artists - she says in the introduction, "...make no mistake, we all live creative lives. You may be an artist, a writer, an entrepreneur, a teacher, a manager, a consultant, a content creator, a coder. Whatever you do, your work and lifestyle rely on creative thinking." Would definitely recommend and as both a tarot reader and an artist, I can see myself using this book for both reference and inspiration in the future.
Tarot for Creativity by Chelsey Pippin Mizzi is a lovely illustrated guide to using tarot to express or influence creativity. It explains what each of the major and minor arcana influences regarding creativity and provides specific spreads based on each card. There are also details of other spreads for creativity.
I don't believe magic actually but I want to explore new area just like tarot for creativity. So, whether you're a writer, artist, engineer, chef, or influencer, this guidebook Tarot for Creativity offers down-to-earth advice for honing your voice, overcoming blocks, and cultivating your creative magic. Let's try read it.
I have just finished reading and using Chelsey Pippin Mizzi's Tarot for Creativity and to say that I am impressed with this workbook immensely underrepresents my reaction. This book uses the Tarot in a way that speaks to both my logical and spiritual selves. It inspires, as well as captures the mythic intuition that so many seek when using a Tarot Deck. In short, Mizzi's book is both a creative guide and a creativity tool. For me, Tarot for Creativity is a Complete Text and so much more than a workbook: it is is a beautifully crafted and illustrated Tarot Handbook with clear instruction and context, an insightful and compelling Guidebook for self discovery, and an inspiring and provocative Workbook that is easy to use regardless of skill level. Joining these together, it is easy to see that this is a tool any creative person can use to help them when stuck in their art or with a troublesome day. Being able to look to a specific card as a guiding question allows the user to highlight a specific issue that needs to be addressed, or when allowing the Tarot to guide you to a random card is an exercise in reflection on inspiration. And, having all the cards of the Tarot represented through such clear and direct illustrations that connect back to myth and Tarot history, it ensures this book has universal appeal for any reader, artist, or Tarot user.
Personally, I have been using this book to find writing inspiration and self exploration. The spreads that I have used, have lead me to many different activities ranging from journaling and creative writing exercises along with more art based forms like collage, drawings, and illustrations that have all challenged me to intriguing results. To be honest, when stuck with a character arc, I have even done these spreads posing as characters in my own fiction to help me dive deeper into their own stories and help me work through Writing Blocks and chracter 'dead ends'. All of these activities have not only called to me, but stretched me beyond what I would have instinctively reached out for. As you can see, Tarot for Creativity has proven itself to be a great way to bring a dependable, friendly, and encouraging voice to my day that has challenged me to exercise my creativity and build confidence in myself. Every card's section and the connected discussions and activities have become a strong personal workout and a way to keep my curious inner child playing while learning about herself.
This is a book that authors, artists, and other creative people like BookTockers and Bookstagrammers, as well as those doing Oracle Spreads, will find a clear, useful tool that provides inspiration for those days when creativity is lagging in this book. No mater.
Thank you Chronicle Books and NetGalley for the arc I read
I’ve never owned a tarot deck in my life, and have only had one reading in my life. But I was intrigued by this title and description because my creativity has completely disappeared, I am not inspired by much and feel like I have no unique ideas left. So naturally this book caught my eye.
The book begins by a rather dry, but necessary section of the basics of tarot and tarot decks, which I did learn from. And then the rest of the book is devoted to how different spreads can be interpréted to mean different things, which one can then draw their own inspiration from. It’s meant to be a stepping stone, a beginning, with room for your own personality and skill sets, by your own actual struggles. It does this very well.
I was a bit disappointed that a book about creativity lacked a lot of its own creativity. I expected bright photos and graphics, and we instead see basic illustrations which does nothing to inspire or lead you into reading further. However the information written is entirely different.
As an artist who has very little time to be creative (read: mother), I found this book to be the perfect little jumping-off point to help you get started creating when you haven’t been able to dive into your creativity in a long time. I have used the Tarot to come up with ideas in the past, and this book will help me do that in a more focused and intentional way. It’s great for beginner and seasoned readers alike. I’d say I am fairly familiar with reading the Tarot, but lean more towards beginner. It covers a simple history of the cards, how to use them. There’s a thorough explanation of each card for creativity, prompts, and a spread for each card to further understand your reading of a specific card that is pulled. There are additional exercises for each of the four suits. At the end there are seven large spreads to really help you dig deep. I can’t wait to physically have this book in my hands. I already preordered this book. Thank you NetGalley and Chronicle Books for providing me with an eARC.
This is a beautiful book that encourages you to explore your creativity through tarot. I did not expect this book to go into such depth! A creative theme is associated with each card of the deck; you're sure to find something that relates to your own process or circumstance. Each card also gets its own spread, which help you ask questions and think more deeply about the situation at hand. Additionally, there are multiple prompts for each card, inviting you to explore journaling, art, storytelling, and the world around you. Prompts are specific, and I found them to be a lovely way to encourage the creative process.
As both a creative and spiritual person, I absolutely loved this book. Tarot for Creativity is all about how to use the Tarot less for the purpose of seeing into the future and more about gaining insight on the present with regards to your creative practices which I can 100% get behind. There’s no nonsense explanations and insights on every card making this a great book for both veterans and beginners. There are also practical spreads and exercises to help you gain insight while on your creative journey, no matter your artistic medium or skill level. This is definitely a book I’ll be going back to a lot!
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an early copy of this book.
This book has beautiful illustrations and formatting that make it easy to follow and understand.
Each entry has an illustration, an explanation of how to understand the card, creative prompts, and a tarot spread.
At the end of each section, there are exercises to do with the major arcana and the minor arcana suits.
It seems like the cards for the suits are similar enough to each other that it would be cool to see a side-by-side comparison. For example, if all the suits for the 3s are on one page (or multiple if need be).
I wish there was a reference index for the cards’ spreads and when to use them. Otherwise, it would involve flipping through the book until you find what you need.
In the end, I think I’ll end up buying this once it’s released.
I am extremely impressed with this book. The author provides several creativity-centric spreads, and explains them very well. She gives her own interpretation of the cards in the context of the subject, and acquits herself very well doing so. As someone who uses tarot in conjunction with my own fiction writing, I can say I feel this book could be extremely helpful to people who are drawn to using cards in this manner.
I love tarot artwork but haven't really learned how to read the cards beyond what I've read in books. I was intrigued by the title of this book when I saw it, and have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed the creativity prompts and different ways to use the cards to spur new ideas. Combined with the basic information about the history and meaning of the cards, this is a nice complement to a traditional tarot reference and deck.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
Tarot for Creativity by Chelsey Pippin Mizzi is nice addition to your personal Tarot practice. If you are a creative you know the pains of having "creative block". This book gives you Tarot spreads to help start braking down that wall. You are also given prompts to jump start your next creative project. It doesn't matter what medium you work in there is something for everyone.
I personally haven't had the time to create and have been working on better understanding the cards. I was able to get a new understanding of the meanings of each card. The appendices are also a great starting point. For those new to Tarot you have a way to keep a journal, and for the more advanced readers there are larger spreads to work with.
This has been an enjoyable read, it is something I wound be going back to time and time again. The explanations of the card are long enough to understand and not to long to lose interest. Also the exercises helped me to look more deeply into what's going on with you and your world. Thank you Chronicle Books for providing this book for review via NetGallery. All opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed this book and the set up. The author has it separated into major and minor arcana. And in every chapter there are creative prompts, such as a specific journal prompt, direction on creating a playlist, or a short story prompt. Every section includes a spread with questions that the cards provide direction. It was easy to flip around for the inspiration and direction that I wanted. The variety of inspiration and creative exercises was also helpful for a few moments when I was stuck with a story idea. I look forward to having this as a resource for future creative needs.
What an absolutely delightful book on using the tarot to fuel your creativity.
Chelsey Pippin Mizzi has delivered a book full of helpful tarot information, like how to interpret each of the cards. But where this differs from other tarot books is that Chelsey helps to interpret each card from a creative point of view. They offer to the reader multiple ways to interact with the cards through journaling, art, storytelling, poetry. They also offer a tarot spread for understanding each card as it relates to one’s individual creative journey. I appreciated their handling of the ‘difficult’ cards in a more uplifting way.
This should be a definite purchase for anyone interested in tarot!
Thank you to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for a digital copy in exchange for my honest review.
An excellent read for all levels!
This is a great resource for everyone! Because, as the author says, we are all creative. I found the writing and the content in this book to be easily consumed, but easy to put to use. Regardless of your level of experience with The Tarot.
This book has a lot of great information on the meaning behind each tarot card in a deck, and how to use/interpret them. To be honest I find tarot cards a bit overwhelming but after reading this I realize a reading is also what you make of it. The images for layouts helped me to better understand what the cards said.
I was given an advance copy of this book from netgalley.com and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are truthful and my own..
The front part of this book is how to use tarot to unlock creativity. I found this part easy to follow, and easy to pick and choose what parts I wanted to read - I didn't need to read the whole thing at once.
I picked three random spreads to try. I found the instructions clear, and liked the set up. What to get out of the spread, a picture of the layout and what each card represents, and my absolute favorite section, the creative prompts. I was struggling with writer's block and found these prompts so fun.
The artwork is also lovely, colorful and bright. I would recommend this book.
An accessible guide to tarot’s usefulness as a way to tap into creative intuition and work through creative blocks. Personally I didn’t jibe with all of the author’s individual card interpretations as they relate to the creative process, but all experienced readers have their own unique ways of reading and that openness to interpretation is part of the art of tarot. Overall I think it’s an important topic and I’m happy to see it receiving this attention.
Thank you to NetGalley for an e-copy of Tarot for Creativity by Chelsey Pippin Mizzi in exchange for a honest review. This book has lots of info about all the tarot cards and what their message can mean for your life. This past spring I went to a psychic reading with tarot card readings and I was intrigued about a more in depth insight of what the the cards I drew meant.I liked the meanings that were given for each card and how you can use them to be more creative and to spark change in your life.Lots of positive insights.
This is an excellent book for those who love tarot and creativity. I found the book very useful. There were several spreads that I found interesting and that I tried out. I also learned new information about tarot which is wonderful, lifelong learning is so important!
The layout of the book is great, in that it starts out with the major arcana and then each suit, and explains each card. First there is a graphic for each card, giving you a hint of what's to come. Then the graphic page is followed by an informational page about the card. The final page for each card includes writing prompts and a spread for the card. There are also useful appendices in the back of the book which I found to be quite useful and informational.
Overall, I think this book melds together so many things that I love, tarot, journaling, and being creative. Learning about the authors take on the subject was informative and entertaining and I think others will love this book too! I'd definitely recommend this to people with similar interests!
I’ve always struggled with a daily tarot practice, so I loved this new perspective on how I can do my tarot readings. It has a section for each card and how it relates to your personal creativity - whether unlocking ideas or exploring a new medium - and spreads to take it deeper.
I absolutely loved this book and concept!
To go through each card within tarot, study it, and find a creative form of expression from the prompts given. Along with a tarot spread for each card. This was very well thought out and very organized. Also something that can be used over and over within someone’s spiritual journey.
Thank you netgalley, author, and publisher for the eARC.
