Description

In society today, perfectionism is a widely distributed personality trait that is becoming more frequently and more intensely expressed. Every day, people focus negatively on different aspects of their lives, feeling unhappy with their coworkers, their spouses, their bodies, or their children’s academic performance. Yet very few become aware of the root cause of their complaints: overt or latent perfectionism. A person who is categorized as a perfectionist strives excessively toward unattainable goals for themselves and the people in their lives, with unfortunate consequences.

In Better than Perfect, Dr. Elizabeth Lombardo offers step-by-step solutions for perfectionists to find balance. The book defines perfectionism in easy-to-understand terms, offers simple assessment tools, and shares case studies of Lombardo's patients to highlight the condition. Also included are practical exercises and suggestions for behavioral changes, including seven ways to overcome perfectionism that include choosing passion over perfection and remembering you’re more than what you do.

With the ultimate goal of helping readers achieve happiness and prosperity without the stress of making sure things are “perfect,” Better than Perfect is a fundamental guide for all perfectionists looking for a simpler way to live.

A Note From the Publisher

Dr. Elizabeth Lombardo started her professional career as a physical therapist after getting her master’s degree at Duke University. It was then that she realized that every goal we have—whether it is related to our bodies, relationships, jobs, or lives—requires a significant mental edge in order to achieve it.

In her quest to help people actualize their dreams, Lombardo went back to school to get her PhD in clinical psychology. Wanting to help people “before they need a couch,” she now coaches, consults, and speaks to groups about how to achieve their desired results.

Lombardo is a highly sought-after speaker and media consultant who has been honored by giving a prestigious TEDx talk. She is frequently interviewed by today’s top media outlets, including Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, Money magazine, Health, USA Today, MSNBC, CNN, and National Public Radio. She has made multiple appearances on The Today Show, has a monthly column in Better Homes & Gardens, and is a contributor to The Huffington Post.

Lombardo is also the author of A Happy You: Your Ultimate Prescription for Happiness. She lives in the Chicago area with her husband and two children.

Featured Reviews

There are many books on dealing with procrastination, perfectionism, self esteem. Why another? Because this not only looks at the root cause of it, but guides to action to make changes. Well done with exercises and evaluation that is tailored to the reader, with the reader's answers then where to go from there. Excellent, easy to understand - slowing down reading to absorb what the author was saying was sometimes a bigger thing. THINK as you read and there is much to gain from this book. Well worth the cover price.

Live fully. Many times the only one holding us back is ourselves. This gives ways to change that. There's no re-ride on life - make it count. (Amazon)
