Wanton Regard is the type of book that you start reading, then realise you have finished it a few hours later, and time lapsed in between. I think because there is a strong pace right from the start of the book combined with my curious need to know what was happening next it kept me riveted.

Hailey Vaughan is a professional consultant, but life is about to get very uncomfortable very quickly for her. Hailey has a stalker, an obsessive, creepy, tech-savvy freaky stalker, seriously you don't want this guy to get his attentions on you. He creeped me out right from the very beginning, as well as annoying me a fair bit with his manner of speaking as well. He made my skin crawl. I think that's the idea.

Whilst Hailey is unaware of her obsessed fan she is also being hassled to join an new wave religious cult that has taken over her home town, fighting off constant invites to join them, so not one, but two types of stalking are going on at this point. It's not a good time for Hailey at all.

She is also dealing with a controlling, mean tempered, jealous husband who quite frankly was a character I just wanted to hate, put it this way, not the type of man you want to marry, or stay married to. Hailey ends up being in fear of him too.

With a fast pace the book escalates the trouble that she is in and just how many people are getting drawn into it all. It becomes a case of "who can she really trust" and it's not really clear even to us, the reader, it keeps us in the dark as much as Hailey. This stalker is not going to give up, he's cunning and smart and clever and VERY determined to get what he wants.

Hailey is a self-assured business woman, it did surprise me slightly how easily she was led by things in early stages of the book and some other minor criticisms I have, but can't mention as they are spoilers, however overall the book is a really thrilling read and has an interesting plot.

It's scary the situation she finds herself in, the latter half of the book was just non-stop action and there are some really well written thrill moments, you know the ones? Like when you are yelling at the character in the book "he's behind you! he's behind you!", that type of thing? Well it's like that, you are poised and tense with all that is going on.

I think the book exposed more of our stalkers dark side and mind as the book evolved, and towards the end it's pretty dark indeed. I actually found the last 40% of the book was plotted really well and some of the minor issues and criticisms I had from earlier parts of the book fell away, I was hooked big time and holding on for the ride, I think I was even holding my breath at one point. If you like tension when you read a good thriller you will get it here.

I don't feel the synopsis of this book is doing it full justice as it's really much more complex than described, and more seriously creepy. If that's your type of book, grab this one and batten down the hatches for a good read.
