Description
The future can be changed. The trick is you have to see it first.
When Liv Hall and her friends find boxes of letters hidden in her grandfather’s attic, they discover hundreds of psychic predictions addressed to the Premonitions Bureau, a bureau to investigate psychic abilities that mysteriously closed in 1993. As the group reads decades-old premonitions, they stumble on letters from powerful psychics who mailed in their predictions and then disappeared.
A post online about the found predictions alerts a black ops group in charge of the military’s paranormal research, who will do anything to get their hands on the letters and the psychics who wrote them. Liv and her friends now know too much, and they’re directly in the crosshairs. To survive, they’re going to have to rely on each other and the unlikely help of psychics who thought they’d left the dangers of the Bureau behind forever.

This was an amazing YA debut. I absolutely loved it! I was a bit worried at first because this definitely veers younger YA as the main characters are still in high school. However, this book grabbed my attention from the start and didn’t let go. I zoomed through this book. The book starts off with our main character, Liv having to clear out the attic after her grandfather has passed. With the help of some friends, they uncover boxes of letters addressed to the premonitions bureau. These letters describe different events through the years that have been predicted with accuracy from varying psychics who have sent their premonitions into this bureau that is now closed. Suddenly, this group of teenagers finds themselves embroiled in a mystery pertaining to where these letters came from and who wants them. The book is written in multiple POV‘s so you get a glimpse into each of the characters and almost from the get-go the action is nonstop. I couldn’t wait to unravel the mystery. I loved how interconnected the characters became and how encompassing the overall mystery was as well. The detailed explanations of different types of psychics was fascinating as well. And while this book is fiction, there are many points that make you wonder if they could be true. I do believe that there are people with varying forms of psychic ability, and this book really delves into varying elements that could be possible in reality. If the description interests you at all, I highly recommend for a quick fascinating read. I loved this author’s writing and will be looking into her previous adult novels in the future.

I was hooked on The Premonitions Club pretty quickly! It starts a bit slow, but as the mysteries unfold, it becomes impossible to put down. The whole concept of the Premonition Bureau, based on the actual British Premonitions Bureau, adds a fascinating layer. I loved how the author wrote in CIA FOIA documents on remote viewing - the research shows.
The characters feel real and relatable. At first, they seem like typical high school archetypes, but as the story progresses, they gain unexpected depth. There are also plenty of twists that kept me guessing, making for an engaging and immersive read.
With an eerie atmosphere and a well-paced mystery, this is a great pick for YA, supernatural thriller, and paranormal fiction fans. I definitely recommend it!
I appreciate NetGalley and CamCat Books for the opportunity to read this early copy!

"Dear Reader, Omens are real. They are a warning of an event yet to happen."
Well, if that didn't hook you, I don't know what will...
Immediately coming to review this because I loved it soooooo much. Thank you so much to Netgalley, CamCat books and Gwendolyn Womack! Sorry I’m so delayed :(
"Welcome to The Premonitions Club
The Future is Yours
So, again, I *ABSOLUTELY* loved this. It wasn't, like, glaringly obvious that it was YA (to me, I like to go in kind of blind, but the blindness is my automatic default to skimming the summary/synopsis), but it was perfect in every single way, and I would *absolutely* recommend it to anyone of any age. It is just about the perfect little dose magical realism and thriller, and I really hope Ms. Womack will expand it into a full series. I love these characters, and I think I want to watch them grow up? I feel like a Mother who is very proud of her very special babies.
"Psychics are born that way, and they are few and far between. A rarity in nature. An anomaly. But what if they weren't? What is being psychic wasn't rare anymore? What would happen if everyone became psychic?"
That's the key question, isn't it? As someone who has the inherent distrust of the government at large, and just people in general, at the minimum, this book spoke to me. The story is so layered and is dealing in generations. The anecdote of being able to foresee the future, and by that logic, being able to alter it is an incredible idea. As humans, we learn to hone in on our intuitions. What if there was more to it? Womack is able to dive into the what-ifs of this YA thriller with great intent. To say I was sat would be an understatement. I flew through the last 50% of the book so quickly because she kept me hooked completely. Even through the multiple POVs of the friend group, the short chapters allow for such a cohesive flow and the plot line never dropped.
"And that is psychic ability is a part of life. A part of the human experience. The mind is a quantum force in the universe. We are dimensional being with untold powers, and there is no stopping human evolution. You talk about saving the world--you're trying to destroy the only thing that can save us: the human mind. The human spirit. The human heart."
"Tell no one or you will not survive the summer's end. For those who can see the future and how its threads are woven together have been hunted by people in power for thousands of years. Knowledge is power, and knowing what tomorrow will bring is the ultimate power. The future can be changed. The trick is you have to see it first."
To impress the point here, the writing and storyline was so good that I not only felt like a teenager again, immersed in this story, but I also experienced a little bit of paranoia following the whole "You need to be careful what you post online" portion of the story. All of the characters have depth, feel fully realized and have their own potential storylines that could break off and lead on their own. All the characters are magical in their own way, metaphorically and literally. I am very excited to see if the author decides to expand this series, and am excited to explore more of her adult content.
"They were their own triskelion, and whatever challenges they faced in the future, they would face them together."
