Becka Brandt's ability to see the dead is pushing her farther from the
living. When an explosion in Boston's downtown district kills her fiancé
and colleagues, Becka reluctantly leaves the city she loves to seek
refuge from her heartbreak and the restless spirits of those she lost.
Moving to a small Massachusetts suburb, her life is further disrupted
when she unknowingly leases a haunted house. Her new roommate is Vito,
an ornery old ghost whose flashbacks to his recent murder draw Becka
into the terrifying world of a serial killer who targets small children.
When Vito was killed, his great-grandchildren were taken. Becka races
against time to solve the mystery of their disappearance before an evil
force, activated by Vito's tangled past of hatred and revenge, invades
the neighborhood and destroys the trail to the children. Plagued by new
ghosts and haunted by visions of her lost love, Becka struggles to
connect clues from Vito's past life to current events. She is aided in
her investigation by her closest friends and a handsome FBI agent who
understands her ability in a way that nobody ever has. Despite the pain
of her broken heart, Becka will have to embrace the living to free the
dead and start life over.

Becka's ability to see and speak with ghosts is special, and it enables her to help Vito, her ghost-roommate to deal with his murder. This is an outstanding para-normal story, written with imagination.

Becka has had conversation with ghosts most of her life. It is not unusual for her to appear to be talking to herself often. She discovered that she could best be of help to ghosts and the living by becoming an investigator/detective that talks to ghost of the recently deceased at crime scenes. By doing this she has saved her own sanity and helped many a lost soul on to the next stage of their, well, death. And, of course, solved crimes that were thought impossible to bring to a close.
After the devastating building explosion that killed the man she was to marry and several of her co-workers, Becka has removed herself from Boston. Seeking refuge from her grief, she leases a house. She specifically asked her new landlord if the home was haunted. He assured her it was not. He was wrong.
Vito was a grumpy, cantankerous, opinionated old… ghost. Becka finds that her home is indeed haunted. By a ghost who was killed in the basement. She learns Vito’s story and is drawn in to help him solve his murder. And that is where this tease should end.
Chasing Vito’s Ghosts was an interesting story. There were many new to me descriptions of ghost’s actions and reasons for doing what ghost do. It was a fast paced read as there is a definite deadline to solve this particular crime.
I enjoyed it and would recommend this novel for folks who love a good ghost story. I’d give it a 4 outta 5 on my rating scale.
*I received an e-ARC of Chasing Vito’s Ghosts from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
