Description

Being responsible for another person’s well-being is a challenge, an honor, and a breathtaking act of commitment.

It is also at turns mundane and complex, demanding and rewarding, heartbreaking and joyful. Caregiving for loved ones is something nearly everyone will experience during their lifetime—for aging parents, partners, family, and friends. Yet, all those who care for others face moments of uncertainty, unable to find the space or strength to care for themselves, too.

Caregivers need and deserve the chance to process their feelings and find moments of peace and calm. This volume of inspiration and support is rooted in empathy and experience, offering caregivers strategies for self-care and ways to find patience and acceptance in themselves so they can keep going—doing the beautiful work of loving and supporting the people they care for.

‘A Little Book of Self-Care for Caregivers’ by Sara Spees Addicott is a smooth and quick read. However, it’s rich with useful quotes and vignettes.

Several quotes caught my attention, and I saved them to go back to for encouragement and inspiration.

A couple are, “Butterflies rest when it rains because the water damages their wings. It's okay to rest during the storms of life. You'll fly again.” And, “Your best on any given day is the best you have that day. Showing up is what matters, and that is enough.”

What caught me by surprise was the beautiful illustrations, which I adored.

This book- little in size, big with pearls of wisdom is a balm to the soul, and I highly-recommend it.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my e-ARC.

I thought I might just read a page or chapter of A Little Book of Self-Care for Caregivers … but then I just kept going. It really is just the loveliest little balm for the soul.

My mom is in independent living and at 86 she is doing pretty well, but I visit often.

With a couple days to myself, it is nice to take a few moments and recharge.

There were several quotes that resonated with me. I will list a couple, but there are many more in this book. I’m going to add them to my phone so that my favorite lines pop up every week or so, because I know that there are some days when I’m going to need a little reassurance.

Lead with Love, and usually you can’t go wrong.

Reset your mind by resetting your sense. Run your hands under cold water, or slide into a hot bath.

People tell me that my mom sends them a thank you note for their thank you note, but the daughter that is there day after day. After day. (well … I just need to cherish the time that I’m able to spend with her.)

It did not take me long to read this book cover to cover. But honestly, it is perfect for a caregiver. Anything with more words would be overwhelming. And go unfinished. This would be a nice little gift for a caregiver.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Girl Friday Productions (the publisher) and Sara Spees Addicott (Editor) for approving my request to read the advance read copy of A Little Book of Self-Care for Caregivers. 144 pages, publication date is Oct 21, 2025.

I thought this was a really positive, interesting and accurate portrayal of some of the difficulties of being a caregiver, particularly when it comes to remembering to provide you self care/not get lost in the role of caregiving. I enjoyed the tips and recommendations, and I’ve used a few myself in my caregiving journey, and will share others with my friends who also act as caregivers for disabled family members.

reading this from a disabled perspective and one who would have a caregiver. i recieved this book via advance reader epup but all my feelings are my own.
this was a sweet read and one i wouldn’t mind gifting. the one quote “it won’t always be this way” did kind of sucker punch me in the gut a bit but i can understand from the authors perspective and story why this was written this was but felt like i read a sad secret.

anyways.

i did like it. i thought the art was lovely but i do feel hung on that particular quote of the book in the context, from my own background.

i thank netgalley and girl friday productions/flashpoint for this arc. it really is a cool thing overall and a quick pickup for one who may need it.

Thank you so much for the ARC. I am not a professional caregiver, but got pushed into an informal caregiver role when my aged mom had an operation, so her mobility has been greatly reduced. I chose the book to look for advice and truly this book speaks to me. It mirrors my feelings and experiences and I feel less guilt now about wanting to take time-out for my own wellbeing and mental health. Being a caregiver is physically and emotionally draining and the book reminds me that asking for help is not a sign of weakness and that self-care is important. I would highly recommend this book.

"A Little Book of Self-Care for Caregivers" has provided much needed pearls of wisdom and calm. As a care-giver of my husband for a number of years, I found encouragement, support, and wisdom throughout. It was an easy read and one that could be turned to over and over.
There were meaningful affirmations through the book, many which I have placed on cards and repeat as I need them.
Lovely watercolours were placed through the book as well.
I know I will return to this book often. Care-giving can be challenging and this book will help to center me and give me guidance and support.
I highly recommend it.

Very cute book with bite sized ideas on self-care with adorable illustrations. It's a small book and not meant to be an in-depth deep dive into self-care for caregivers.
