Description

Can she get it right the second time(line) around?

You've Reached Sam meets Before I Fall in this gripping speculative romance about one girl saving her first love's life by falling for the last person she ever should - his best friend.

Nieve Monroe is devastated after her boyfriend Carter dies saving her from drowning. Even worse she blames herself for his death… and so does his best friend, Max. He was there with them on that fateful day, and he’s never liked Nieve.

Unable to pull herself from her grief and wanting to hide from the accusation in his eyes, Nieve goes to stay with her grandmother, who has always had strange stories to tell of uncanny happenings, of magic and make believe. The next morning, Nieve wakes up on the first day of college, the year before.

This time she plans to make sure Carter never follows her into that river. She’ll do everything in her power to keep him safe, even if it means losing him in other ways. But the more distance she puts between her and Carter, the closer she gets to Max, drawn to him in ways she never expected. But is she betraying Carter if the only way she can save him is to move on? And can she ever forget her past to embrace her future?

Kristin Dwyer’s In Time with You is a heartbreaking story of first love, loss, and one chance to change everything.

"I was alarmed by the number of times Kristin was able to break my heart and then patch it back together. Prepare to feel a lot of feelings." - Jenna Evans Welch, New York Times bestselling author of Love & Gelato and Spells for Lost Things

First & foremost, thank you to St. Martin’s Press, NetGalley & Kristin Dwyer for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I picked this book up for the description, You’ve Reached Sam absolutely and utterly destroyed me. I’ve been craving something that makes me feel like that. This book was the perfect solution.

Beautifully messy & devastatingly human, I fell in love from page one. Even now, as I type out this review, I just want to read it again and again. The fear, the blame, the misunderstanding & the longing I felt with every word Nieve was thinking, every action. Absolutely top tier. Max was…everything. I would save him a thousand times over if I had to.

It’s a story about love, loss and family relationships. Second chances & finding the one. I absolutely fell in love with this book, Dwyer’s writing, and the story. As I said, beautifully messy & devastatingly human.

In Time With You is devastatingly beautiful.

This story veers from Kristin Dwyer’s typical work in that it leans more speculative and colorful, but the heartbeat of her writing—the yearning, the pain, the misunderstandings and aches of life and love—remains front and center.

While it explores the familiar speculative question of “if you could turn back time” and the butterfly effect of what follows, what stood out to me even more—and what I couldn’t let go of—was the theme of choice. If you went back to a certain moment, would you even choose the same thing again? Not simply to stop an event from happening, but because you are no longer the same person you were when that event occurred, and your perspective has changed in ways that alter everything.

The time loop and high stakes create urgency, but it’s the tension between Nieve, the FMC, and the shifting relationships around her—the ones that no longer look the same, and the ones that are unexpectedly blooming—that were the most gripping for me.

This was an incredibly special read, one that will stick with me forever. Kristin is a master storyteller and a truly gifted writer. It might be my favorite one yet (and that says a lot, because I thought Some Mistakes Were Made was perfection).

This book completely blew me away! I wasn’t expecting it to be so intense, but I got hooked from the first page. I usually don’t read a lot of magical realism, but Kristin Dwyer made it feel so natural and grounded. I couldn’t put it down, I stayed up way past my normal bedtime just to see what happened next.

The story explores the butterfly-effect in such an emotional way. It’s about how one choice can ripple through a life and affect love, grief, and timing. I loved how layered the plot was, it wasn’t just a romance, it was also a story about self-discovery, regrets, and the moments that define us.

Nieve is such a strong, compelling protagonist. I loved her determination to do the right thing even when it’s hard, and at the same time, she’s so vulnerable and human. Watching her navigate grief, love, and these ripple effects was heart-wrenching and beautiful. I felt her emotions so deeply.

Max is equally wonderful. From the very beginning, you can feel his care and devotion toward Nieve, and the way their relationship develops is intense but believable. Their connection feels electric, but it’s not overdone, every moment builds naturally, and the emotional payoff is worth it.

One thing I particularly loved was how the book balances magical realism with real, relatable emotions. Even with the time-bending element, Nieve and Max’s struggles, hopes, and fears felt completely authentic. The writing is vivid, emotional, and incredibly immersive. I could picture every scene and feel the tension, heartbreak, and joy right alongside the characters.

Overall, this is one of those rare books that stays with you long after you finish it. It’s about love, choices, second chances, and how one person can change everything in another person’s life. I can’t recommend it enough, it’s a must-read for anyone who loves emotional, thoughtful, and heart-stopping romance.

In Time With You is a story that will stick with you long after you've read it.

I received an early copy via Wednesday Books at St. Martin's Press via NetGalley. All opinions are my own and given freely.

I went into this one without reading the blurb and I would recommend doing so if you also enjoy reading this way. Do read the blurb if you need content warnings however. But I was just so captivated from the start, hanging on every word, up until the very end. And what a beautiful, emotional journey of love, loss, healing and self discovery it is. It's about ripple effects. What you would do for love. For those you love. It will have you yearning for answers. For how it will end. And I will admit, I teared up many times.

I just let this story take me on it's journey. With magical realism, and great art rep, along with a host of great side characters (including a wise gran and her sheep), I just loved every minute of it. There's romance, and a splash of open door steam, but the focus is on Nieve. It's her story. And it's one I couldn't put down. This is my first time reading this author and her writing style is so fluid and beautiful. It won't be the last time I read her! I highly recommend reading this upon release!

💔 A Whirlwind of Emotion: Review of In Time With You
This novel is a truly astonishing achievement in emotional storytelling. It's the kind of book that grips you instantly, becoming an immediate favorite—the type you simply cannot set aside, even at the expense of a decent night's sleep.

With its blend of time travel and magical realism, In Time With You sounded like the perfect read for me, and the execution far exceeded expectations.

A Masterclass in Feeling
What elevates this narrative is its maturity and depth. The story uses its speculative elements to explore profound human experiences:

Grief and Healing: Confronting loss and learning how to move forward.

The Power of Connection: Celebrating friendship and the creative force of art.

Perspective: A poignant reminder that shifting your view on life, and recognizing the butterfly effect of small choices, can illuminate everything.

The relationship at the heart of the book is unforgettable. It is the definition of a tear-jerker—a romance so powerfully written that it feels like a cosmic certainty. It possesses an ancient, inevitable quality, suggesting a bond that exists across all timelines and versions of reality. This romantic arc alone is enough to leave the reader completely blown away.

The profound emotional resonance of the writing resulted in me getting goosebumps every time the narrative reached a crucial turning point. This is a story I highly recommend for its emotional intensity and beautiful exploration of life's complexities.

Thank you to NetGalley and Wednesday Books for the ARC!

Did I devour this book in two days? Yes.
Did it absolutely wreck me and stitch me back together? Also yes.
Kristin Dwyer plays with time and grief and love in such a beautiful and healing way.

Nieve's grief is messy and realistic, having lost her boyfriend who died saving her life. She carries survivor guilt and struggles to move on when Grande, who's always been a little eccentric, alters time, giving Nieve her wish--to have Carter back. However, I think most of us know that messing with time isn't so simple. So, Nieve struggles between wanting to save Carter and wanting to be with him...but being with him killed him.

The tension in this story is palpable as Nieve gets a do-over and tries to choose different things, but every time she feels like she has a footing, time gets disrupted and she can't figure out why, making it hard to trust her experiences. It's a perfect balance of reality and magic sprinkled with an endearing cast of characters and adorably silly sheep. 10/10 recommend if you want your heart shattered and pieced back together by a sweet boy who is top-notch book-boyfriend material!

For sensitive readers, there's a scene or two of open-door spice and some swearing. Nieve is a college freshman and she hangs out with some older students, so there's a bit of alcohol usage, too.
