The recipes in this book look absolutely delicious and the pictures have a wonderful rustic feel. I liked the categorization into morning, lunch and evening; it have a good indication in how 'involved' a recipe was. The recipes in the book have different difficulty levels, which is great if you don't feel up to trying not complicated recipes. There are some great recipes for soups or salads that are very simple and accessible for beginner cooks.
I wish the recipes had prep and cool times, though. Some of them require a lot of resting time, and it would be good to know ahead of time that ingredients need to rest overnight.
The New Café Beaujolais Cookbook captures the essence of Mendocino’s famed restaurant through 85+ vibrant, seasonal recipes. Chef Julian Lopez blends classic Café Beaujolais favorites with globally inspired, locally sourced dishes that highlight the best of California coastal cuisine. Featuring everything from buttermilk cinnamon coffee cake to pine-smoked salmon, the cookbook feels both nostalgic and fresh. Beautiful photography and heartfelt stories bring Mendocino’s food culture to life, making this a must-have for any home cook or cookbook lover.
The New Cafe Beaujolais Cookbook, in addition to having stunning photography, demonstrates the joy of farm-to-table cooking. The updated California cuisine has ingredients that will be accessible to most home cooks. The recipes are clear and concise and, for the most part, don't require equipment beyond what you would find in an average home kitchen. Reading about the local Mendocino-area suppliers was interesting and really inspires you to head to wine country to try them out.
Thanks to NetGalley and Collective Book Studio for an advanced copy and the chance to make some of these great recipes. It's butternut squash season as I'm writing this.

I enjoyed the beautiful photography and well written recipes, as well as the history of the restaurant shared in The New Cafe Beaujolais Cookbook. Recipes are organized by the time of day you eat them, beginning with Morning Food. I am particularly interested in the salads and "Side Foods" aka side dishes. The recipes have fresh, seasonal ingredients with lots of textures and flavors. These are the kinds of dishes you could make a few of when hosting lunch, and your guests will be dazzled. Nothing is too high effort, but the preparation is thoughtful, with beautiful presentation. I will definitely try some of these recipes, and I recommend the book.

I've been lucky enough to eat at Cafe Beaujolais a few times over the years, so I was especially happy to get a review copy of this cookbook.
Recipes are organized by morning, lunch, and dinner meals, along with desserts. There are global influences to many of the recipes, such as Shakshuka, Mexican-Style Pork and Hominy Soup, and Vietnamese Pizza. There are also a lot of fish recipes, along with chicken, pork, and lamb. It's a good mix of ingredients and styles. I can't wait to cook my way through this beloved Mendocino restaurant's dishes.
Thanks so much to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC!
When I first saw the Cafe Beaujolais cookbook, it immediately made me pause with excitement. It transported me back to the late 1980s, when I visited the charming town of Mendocino, California. I stopped by the café for breakfast, and it quickly became a daily ritual for the duration of my stay. The food was absolutely delicious - some of the best breakfast I’ve ever had.
At the time, the café had a cookbook available, and I knew I had to purchase it. I cooked through it countless times, and every recipe - from the black bean chili to the Amazon cake - was perfect. Years later, I read that the owner had left the café, so I was delighted to see this new cookbook continuing their legacy.
This edition features many beloved classics from the original cookbook, some updated, alongside gorgeous photography that captures all the charm and beauty I remember from decades ago. It’s a wonderful tribute to a café that left a lasting impression and a cookbook that continues to inspire in the kitchen.
