Thank you, Harper 360, for providing the copy of The Alpine Retreat by Sarah Goodwin. I love locked room mysteries, and this was a good one, because the resort was so mysterious. The book moves at a fast pace, and I enjoyed the wide cast of characters. The addition of wolves added a little something! The reveals were surprising and made perfect sense, even though there weren’t many clues. This fast-paced book was an enjoyable read!!!! 4 stars.

Crisis management guru (or fixer as she is also known) Chloe Wallace is ready for a break. Her high stress job dealing with the rich and powerful is draining and she has chosen to sneak away to a wellness retreat in Switzerland
to recharge. Things are far from restful as an avalanche happens and people start dying from other causes. Can Chloe make it out alive?

I am a sucker for a book with a good influencer plot, so I was excited to pick up The Alpine Retreat and it did not disappoint. This book was filled with twists and turns and great characters. Chloe was a strong, well written female main character, and the workers at the retreat were also well defined. I especially enjoyed the other retreat goers--they were spoiled and bratty and they were very entertaining. The lodge was sufficiently creepy, especially with the addition of the hungry wolves outside. A good, interesting, chilly locked room thriller. 4.25 stars.

I received this advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Chloe Wallace is a fixer. She’s used to getting famous people out of sticky, possibly criminal situations. When she plans a restorative getaway at The Sorgente, the exclusive, isolated wellness retreat perched on a cliff in the Swiss Alps, she has no idea what will confront her. When she and her fellow guests arrive, their technology is taken away and they discover their suitcases have been searched for contraband (coffee, drugs, backup phones, etc.) that might keep them from the perfect wellness path. At dinner on the first evening, their wellness path is interrupted by a massive avalanche. Many guests and staff are killed or injured, electricity and heat are lost, roads are blocked and the mountain tram that bought them up the cliff is disabled. If that weren’t enough, a killer is on the loose and … there are wolves. Chloe helps the remaining staff keep the survivors calm while trying to find the murderer. His/her reasons seem to follow a pattern but why? What is hidden behind the luxurious wellness culture of The Sorgente?

I read The Alpine Retreat in one sitting. I could not put it down! Sarah Goodwin is one of my favorite authors - no one can write a thriller like she does - and this is her best. The plot is fast paced with totally unexpected surprises. The Sorgente is full of characters you love or hate. Patrick Keegan, the fading, alcoholic movie star and his long suffering wife; Emmitt, a rockstar just out of rehab; Jade, the wellness and health influencer who wants to help and hotel manager Aloisia are some of the best described but this is Chloe Wallace’s story. The Alpine Retreat should be a movie! Netflix and Amazon, are you listening? 5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, Harper 360 and Sarah Goodwin for this ARC.

I really enjoyed this book.
I did think the detailed descriptions of all the designer clothes in the first few chapters was a bit much, though I get that it was to show how rich the characters were.
After that, the story totally pulled me in and I couldn’t put it down. I ended up reading the whole thing in one sitting. The main character was well developed and the author’s descriptions made everything super easy to picture.
I can’t wait to read more from this author.

I’m a big fan of this author, and nothing excites me more than a locked room thriller with snow! Overall, I enjoyed this book- the plot was interesting, and the twist was well developed. My only criticism is that I struggled to keep all of the characters straight, which led to some confusion and dampened my enjoyment a bit.

Relax. Recharge. Run for your life.

Perched high in the Swiss Alps, Élan Peak Wellness Retreat promises peace, luxury, and absolute privacy. It is the kind of place that exists only on filtered feeds and whispered invitations. A handful of influencers, CEOs, and celebrities arrive, ready to cleanse their minds and polish their brands in a perfect mountain paradise.

Their phones are locked away. Their access to the outside world is gone. At first, it feels like part of the experience. Then a blizzard hits, sealing the mountain and cutting off all contact.

When dawn comes, one guest has vanished without a trace.

Inside the lodge, suspicion grows. Outside, the snow deepens, and wolves circle the perimeter. The ski lift is frozen, the power is out, and trust is the most fragile thing left. Every guest has something to hide. Every secret feels heavier than the storm pressing against the windows.

By nightfall, Élan Peak no longer feels like a retreat. It feels like a trap. And someone inside wants to make sure no one leaves alive. #harper360 #thealpineretreat

A retreat that acts as a locked room mystery! Sarah brings us to a wellness retreat for celebrity guests. It is cut off after an avalanche, and the guests are trapped up in the Swiss Alps. Then the secrets come out, and the people start to die. This story has great twists and the reveal at the end was a surprise. It's a fast paced read. Can't wait to read more of her work.

I received an ARC of this book from Harper 360 via NetGalley in exchange for my honest feedback. It seems Ms. Goodwin really likes locked room mysteries and snow!

This was a pretty solid thriller and I didn't guess the outcome. Though to be fair, I don't think there was any way at all to guess it. No foreshadowing. Also, I did get a bit confused as to who was who - mostly among the security team - so that could also have contributed to not knowing what was to come. In parts where the author was describing the rooms/ layout of the resort (like the back hallway to the vault, the foyer, etc.) I had a hard time picturing the exact scene. I have read some books with drawings/ maps of the location, and I think that might work well in this book also.

The descriptions of the resort's isolation and its luxury were very well done. A tram to a mountain top surrounded only by wolves? But then where you get an enormous soaking tub and new cozy clothes. I might be interested!

I could see Chloe starring in future books - she was feisty, spunky, and relatable. And I also think this book would make a fantastic movie!

This is the perfect book to pick up on a cold weekend, curl up under a fuzzy blanket, and settle in for a long reading session. Admittedly, there were a couple points that I felt were a little slow, but the action does pick back up relatively quickly. This was definitely more of an atmospheric thriller/mystery than I expected, and that was a welcome surprise.

This is the type of book where essentially everyone is a suspect. Is the killer a guest? A staff member? Multiple people?? Speaking of guests, I really liked how the author was able to use Chloe's experience and job to benefit multiple situations within the plot. The ending was quite good, especially considering the consequences of the character's actions and circumstances.

I'll definitely recommend this to readers, especially if they're wanting something atmospheric and fun. I'll also look for future titles by Sarah Goodwin.

Sarah Goodwin does it again!

I love her survival thrillers. She beautifully interweaves the survival aspect with some mystery and some who dun it. She is definitely one of my favorite authors at this point. I loved Chloe as a character. Her growth throughout the story was expertly written and made for a badass character you had to root for.

I really enjoyed the uniqueness of this storyline and setting. Throwing the wolves in added that extra scare factor in an already creepy, trapped in vibe.

Sarah Goodwin had me right from the beginning with the description of her main character. Chloe Wallace describes herself as "an expensive little snake". Love it! And I also loved her! Chloe is a "fixer" for the rich and famous. Needless to say, her moral character is extremely grey. And her snarky comments and observations were hilarious! Her assistant's opinion on Twitter/X had me rolling. Chloe is super-stressed with work, so she decides to take a much-needed vacation at The Sorgente, a remote luxury wellness retreat located high in the Swiss Alps. Upon arrival, guests, including influencers and famous entertainers, are stripped of their worldly goods. This includes phones and all forms of communication. What could possibly go wrong? Well, an avalanche that busts a huge hole in the side of the resort and knocks out all power for starters. Then the dead bodies begin piling up and it's a quick downhill ride from there! Not only does Chloe have the elements to contend with, but she also has to step up and figure out who is killing the remaining guests and why. Oh, and wolves. Did I mention wolves? That's a fun addition you don't see much of in locked room stories! As it turns out, Chloe's job experience is perfect for the situation. I really enjoyed this book and at the end is a description of each of the author's previous stories. I realized that I have read and liked almost all of them! Need to go back and read the remaining one, for sure!

The Alpine Retreat by Sarah Goodwin is an atmospheric and suspenseful thriller set against the stark beauty of a remote mountain resort. Goodwin masterfully builds tension, creating a sense of isolation and unease that pulls you deeper into the story with every chapter.

The characters are well-developed, each hiding secrets that slowly unravel as the plot tightens. The pacing is strong, with just enough twists to keep you guessing without feeling overdone. The setting is vividly described—it’s cold, claustrophobic, and perfectly mirrors the story’s psychological edge.

While a few parts moved a bit slower than others, the overall mystery and emotional payoff made it a very satisfying read. Fans of locked-room or remote-location thrillers will love this chilling escape.

A locked room mystery paired with a natural disaster made for an experience unlike many others I've read. Seeing the world through Chloe's eyes was thoroughly enjoyable, particularly the character growth while still maintaining her snark and sense of humor. It was refreshing to have a queer main character (as a queer person myself). I appreciated that it didn't become a plot point or a reason to harm her as the story unfolded, as it often is. Each character had a believable backstory, depth and secrets. I tried guessing along the way but was genuinely surprised by the twists. I highly recommend giving this a try.

This was a bit of a slow burn thriller to start out. The very beginning is kind of a background on some of the main characters and you start to wonder if anything is really going to happen. Then everything goes haywire after an avalanche and people start showing up dead. We follow along trying to sold the mystery of who is killing people and why they’re doing it. The ending will leave you baffled a bit. It was unexpected for sure. Decent book that kept me interested.

I am a big fan of the author so i was really looking forward to diving into the alpine retreat and i once again enjoyed every moment of this read.

The Alpine Retreat is a locked room mystery that follows Chloe, a fixer AKA someone who fixes the problems of the high and mighty and makes them go away. Tired and needing a break, she decides to book a much needed vacation to de-stress and relax at The Sorgente a highly known wellness retreat situated in the Swiss alps. Alongside her are other well known celebrities, influencers and big names but behind everyone's perfect story is something well hidden. As a rule technology and expensive property of those staying are to confiscated which doesn't go down well for some. Tension is already brewing between the guests and what else could go wrong apart from an avalanche that bursts through the windows and cutting off all communication to the outside. Wolves are scouting out the place, the heating is gone and there is not enough food. If you thought that was the worst of it, no a member of staff is soon found murdered and now they are stuck with a murderer on the loose that seems to of just gotten started.

All of the characters were well written and each different, i thought i had an idea who was behind everything but i was proven wrong. A fair amount of twists that i didn't see coming and the full read is full of mystery and suspense as you don't know who to trust. I really enjoyed this read and think it would be a must winter read for those who enjoy a who did it.

The Alpine Retreat is an icy, fast-paced thriller that kept me hooked from the first chapter. Chloe Wallace is a strong, complicated heroine, and the influencer culture, satire, and suspense were a delightful combination. The setting was deliciously eerie, and the avalanche, isolation, and threat of wolves contributed to the tension. Recommended for fans of suspense and locked room mysteries in chilly settings. Many thanks to HarperCollins360 and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this advance copy. My review is voluntary and expresses my personal opinion. What an adrenaline rush! It was non-stop and I devoured The Alpine Retreat by Sarah Goodwin. With most locked room thrillers, the ensemble cast is stuck because of the machinations of antagonist. But the cast of The Alpine Retreat are stuck because of Mother Nature. And that really changed the tone and made this thriller really stand out. It kept me guessing until the very end and I eagerly look forward to more books by Sarah Goodwin!

Goodwin’s thrillers are always suspenseful and a lot of fun. This time it’s set in a spa-resort in the Swiss Alps, where Chloe goes to decompress. She feels guilty about lying for a living, covering up the mistakes of the rich and powerful at the expense of the most vulnerable. Upon arrival, she finds herself surrounded by the most despicable characters. When things go very (VERY) wrong, these are the people she will have to rely on, so basically, she’s mostly on her own. Good thing she’s a fixer, so she’s always several steps ahead of everyone else. They are isolated, with no way to contact the outside world and, on top of everything else, there is a killer on the loose. I loved how the author reveals the suspects and motives. She uses a few tricks from Dame Agatha’s playbook to great effect (although I figured out a few of the twists). The writing is descriptive and atmospheric but never slows down the action. The cast of victims/suspects is a little over the top, but since I don’t know anyone at that level of wealth, it may be accurate. All I know is that Chloe is amazing, likable despite her flaws, and easy to root for. I do have a huge bone to pick, wolves are demonized and hunted enough, they don’t attack humans for no reason. Except for that, I loved this novel.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, NetGalley/Harper 360.

The Alpine Retreat by Sarah Goodwin is a tense, atmospheric thriller that pulls you into its snowbound setting and doesn't let go. The isolation of the mountains is palpable-you can almost feel the cold creeping in through the pages-and the claustrophobic sense of mistrust among the characters makes for a genuinely chilling read.
Iloved how

Goodwin built the suspense slowly, letting secrets ano tensions simmer beneath the surface before everything began to unravel. The writing is sharp, cinematic, and full of uneasy quiet moments that make you second-guess everyone.

That said, a few parts dragged slightly, and I wished the ending had hit just a little harder-but overall, this was a gripping, wintery thriller perfect for fans of The Sanatorium or The Hunting Party

Would definitely recommend curling up with this one on a cold night-just maybe not if you're staying in a remote cabin.

There is nothing I love more than a locked-room mystery. A locked-room mystery set in a snowstorm in Switzerland? Bestill my heart! I was so excited to read this one and it did not disappoint!

Chloe, a celebrity "fixer," flies to the Sargente, an elite spa in the Alps, for some much-needed rest and relaxation. What she finds however? Not so much of either. First it's the entitled guests that get under her skin, but then it gets much more serious! Mother Nature deals them a huge blow, someone starts picking off the staff, and then there's the wolves awaiting them outside. Will Chloe be able to fix this situation?

The writer did a great job of keeping the pace moving and the tensions high! You will not want to miss this book! Five stars.

📚The Alpine Retreat
✍🏻Sarah Goodwin
Blurb:
High in the secluded Swiss Alps, Élan Peak Wellness Retreat promises luxury, rejuvenation, and exclusivity — an influencer’s paradise. A select group of celebrities, corporate bosses and social media stars arrive, eager to detox, meditate, and document their curated journey to enlightenment.

But when they arrive and have their technology confiscated, they're horrified. To make matters worse, an avalanche traps them in the remote lodge overnight. As paranoia sets in and dark secrets unravel, they realize the retreat isn’t what it seems.

Someone is watching. Someone is hunting. And not everyone will make it out alive.
My Thoughts:
The Alpine Retreat is a fast paced thriller that will have you second guessing everyone around you. This book is perfect for people who love thrillers set during the winter.. The Alpine Retreat drops readers into a wintry mountain getaway where the snow piles up fast and the trust evaporates even faster.

A small group of strangers arrives seeking calm, quiet, healing, and maybe a scenic moment. Instead, the weather locks them in, the paths vanish under snow, and one guest disappears as abruptly. From there, the atmosphere shifts from mildly awkward to deliciously paranoid, with every glance turning suspicious and every silence stretching a little too long.

Sarah Goodwin is a new author for me and I'll be reading her again. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the preview copy. I thoroughly enjoyed this quick easy read. The atmosphere was amazing - snow, cold, creepy retreat lodge, wolves....added so much to this locked room type mystery in the high alps. There was a big brother is watching feel throughout that kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved the main character, Chloe. She knows she's not perfect but has a very specific skill set and she's so confident that she is the person to "handle" this mountain top crisis. There are A LOT of characters so don't read this if you're sleepy. I didn't guess the outcome and that was a great surprise. I hope to see Chloe in a future thriller soon.

This was a “I can’t put it down”read for me because I got so invested in the story I simply had to know what happened. What a great locked room thriller!

Chloe Wallace is a fixer but she’s tired of the rat race and needs a vacation and rejuvenation. She finds an exclusive wellness retreat in the Swiss Alps where she meets up with some pretty unique “celebs” and socialites who could use some “fixing.” The retreat starts out with a refined “healthy” dinner when an avalanche occurs. From then on it’s keeping warm, waiting to be rescued and hoping not to get killed by man/woman or wolf! Without electricity, computers and phones, it’s anyone’s guess how the outside world will find them.

The author does a nice job of creating psychological tension and suspense as employees and guests seek to find out who’s killing them. There’s lots of scary moments as the bodies go down.

Chloe’s a crackerjack character - she’s whip smart, wisecracking and daring. I loved her.

This is my first book by the author but it won’t be my last. Sarah Goodwin knows how to write a thriller!

Scandal meets Survivor in Sarah Goodwin’s best novel yet! Those who enjoyed Stranded or The Island will definitely dive right into The Alpine Retreat and be hooked from the beginning. The story follows an interesting group of characters who get stranded at an exclusive luxury retreat - both elite celebrities as well as the staff who work there are featured as they navigate the aftermath of an avalanche, cut off from rescue until a safe escape route can be made by officials. Our main charatcer is a “fixer” who is looking for a true escape from handling crises of the 1%, only to find herself in the biggest crisis yet of a natural disaster in a secluded location. As usual, Sarah Goodwin does a fantastic job weaving in interesting characters with depth while avoiding obvious or boring stereotypes. The novel explores socioeconomic, gender, and class issues and relations within the plotline that make the reader consider various perspectives without pushing any agenda and adds to the story.

I was hooked throughout and couldn’t put it down once I started! I definitely recommend picking up this book for anyone who likes interesting characters and mystery/suspense!

A fixer decides to take a break before she burns out. She arrives at an exclusive spa high in the mountains and isolated from the world. No technology. No media. No luxury brands. No caffeine or other bad food items.

On the skytram to the resort she gets to see the other guests: an elite athlete (weren't there rumors of eating disorders), an executive (racist rant leaked recently), and an aging rock star.

The first evening they are unprepared for the events......an avalanche and a murder.

Classic locked room style thriller. Who is the killer and who is next?
