Description

From social media’s favorite vintage nana: warm, heartfelt advice on how to discover joy and beauty in your everyday life. Have a cup of tea and settle in!

“In times when unexpected disappointments seem lurking around every corner it’s even more important to focus your attention on things that are beautiful.”—Diane Shiffer

Known to her nearly 2M followers as @shifferdiane on TikTok and Instagram, Diane Shiffer is the internet's favorite nana. Her cozy, candid posts—featuring cups of coffee on the porch, cats on the countertop, and vintage treasures—have become a sanctuary for those craving softness and kindness in a divided and harsh time.

Like a collection of letters from a wise and loving grandparent, this book offers warmth, wisdom, and encouragement for anyone seeking more peace, joy, and self-acceptance. Diane’s signature blend of gentle humor, vintage charm, and heartfelt reflection invites you to slow down and reconnect with what matters most. When we treat ourselves with kindness, we often find that life flows more easily—and even joyfully.

THE SMALLLEST OF JOYS is an invitation to slow down, embrace self-love, and welcome a little stillness (maybe even silliness!) into your days. With short, heartfelt chapters, you’ll discover how to:

  • Embrace your inner weirdo
  • Be patient with yourself through life’s changes
  • Keep a tidy home without overwhelm
  • Develop a positive body image
  • Heal from heartbreak
  • Connect with others through gratitude
  • Find everyday magic in the simplest moments

Whether you’ve been following Diane for years or are just meeting her now, this book is like a warm teacup in your hands and a soft blanket around your shoulders. A modern antidote to hustle culture and self-criticism, it’s a reminder that kindness—especially toward yourself—can be a powerful way to live.
From social media’s favorite vintage nana: warm, heartfelt advice on how to discover joy and beauty in your everyday life. Have a cup of tea and settle in!

I say this often, but NetGalley helps me discover such gems in a sea of so many books. I stumble across fun and precious reads often that I may have never found without browsing NetGalley. This cover and title caught my attention without any prior knowledge of who Diane Shiffer was. I did immediately look up her Instagram page though and she is so precious and kind and uplifting. Her page is, in fact, joyful and calm.

This book reads exactly as her videos are presented. It's cozy and heartfelt. I'm already noting annotations everywhere - including the introduction lol. This will be a perfect book to sit down with and read throughout the seasons as she has them sectioned out or take small moments daily to read a few pages. I don't typically read or reach for self-help but this was so worth the read. I firmly believe there is joy in every day but it's learning how to find it in the mundane and the small moments and to share that joy with others so this book was a perfect fit for me. :)

Highly recommend picking up this sweet gem! I would adore having a hard copy of this book and would definitely consider gifting this to friends. Thank you Hay House LLC for the arc!

What a joy of a book! I have followed Nana Diane on Instagram for many years now, and this book fully and perfectly encapsulates the message that she delivers each and every day -- be grateful, be weird, be fully yourself! The chapters are short and meaningful, a really nice way to escape a hectic day for just a few minutes to read through something that will give you some joy, some hope, or some comfort. I love that the book is sectioned off into seasons, not that it needs to be the particular seasons to feel the meaning of the chapter, but a really nice jumping off point when I want to revisit during certain parts of the year. This book, and Diane's presence in general, reminds me to slow down, to appreciate myself and the world and people around me, and to find joy in the mundane. I loved this book, I know it's something I'll reach for time and again when I need a pick-me-up.

Thank you so much to Nana Diane, Hay House, and NetGalley for this lovely ARC <3

Just what we all need right now! Our favorite online granny is bringing us messages of self care, social justice, and slow living. While we're all struggling to find community and purpose, Diane reminds us to bake the bread *and* make space at the table. We can love old things and find make room for new ideas. This book helps us find space for nostalgia and hope for a better future.

I was given a copy of this book by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I stumbled across Diane Shiffer’s Instagram, and instantly fell in love with her sweet voice, vintage items, and gentle way of encouraging love in all ways. This book is, as she says at the end of it, a gift to her readers. Divided into sections based on the seasons, each small essay encourages noticing the beauty all around us, loving everyone (including ourselves) fiercely, and being grateful for small moments of joy. Definitely recommend and I will definitely reread this.

The Smallest of Joys by Diane Shiffer is a delightful collection of essays that feels like a warm hug. I started following Diane on Instagram many years ago as she had a gentle, loving, vintage presence at a time where we were all struggling, the pandemic. I had a granddaughter in the NICU who I couldn't visit and I needed a calming presence in my life, Diane became it, as we are of an age and she has found joy in her life, her uniqueness and her views on the world. She did more to settle me than she'll ever know and I appreciate her. Just as on screen, her gentleness and humor, her strength and courage are her stamp in these essays which are arranged by seasons. I know I'll be reaching for this book again and again as the years pass.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

The Smallest of Joy's is a beautiful, vintage style book of wisdom that feels like advice from an older family member being passed down to the younger generations.
The book generally gives advice from the authors heart about finding and embracing the simple joys and beauties that occur within your life everyday.
The book has such a cosy and comforting vibe and feel to it and to make the most of it I would set aside a small period of time with a warm comforting drink to enjoy it to the max.
