Description

Ruth Chou Simons, founder of GraceLaced, helps readers feeling defeated by their daily choices not reflecting who they long to be, showing them how to establish spiritual rhythms, embrace grace in the mundane, and choose heart transformation over de-formation.

Too often we survive in an in-between space where we know what we should spend our time doing--and may even want to be doing--but find ourselves not doing it. Rather than reading God's Word regularly, we spend hours scrolling on social media. Rather than confidently doing the work God has given us, we obsessively compare ourselves to others. We feel defeated by our own actions but unsure what is really going on and what to do about it.

In A Beautiful Unfolding, bestselling author Ruth Chou Simons offers you clarity and insight into the truth behind this haze. She helps you unpack how your daily choices are a key indicator of what you truly love, and how what you love impacts who you become. And in the middle of the struggle to choose what you know is best, there is a continual stream of God's grace available to you in your daily life--if you will simply choose to place yourself in its flow. Ruth will help you discover how to

  • examine the underlying motivations for your daily choices,
  • recognize the connection between what you love and how you spend your time,
  • realize what is de-forming you rather than transforming you, and
  • embrace four specific spiritual practices that help you access God's grace for purposeful living.

If you are ready to intentionally shift your course from absentmindedly drifting to purposefully becoming more like Christ, this book will help you begin the journey of transformation in your daily routines and your heart--for his glory and your beautiful unfolding.

Ruth encourages readers to consider how everyday choices, habits, and priorities shape the people we are becoming. I appreciate the reminder that spiritual growth isn’t about striving for perfection but about allowing God’s grace to transform us in the ordinary rhythms of life. This book offers a thoughtful invitation to live more intentionally and align our daily lives with the faith we profess.

Thank you to Nelson Books and NetGalley for this advance copy!

This is my second Ruth Chou Simons book and it won’t be my last. The biblical discipline of sanctification is explained so well and demonstrated genuinely. Reading this encouraged me to finally start the Bible verse mapping study I’ve been putting off! The illustrations of the chrysalis becoming a butterfly was so touching and perfect for the theme of this book.

I was so glad to be able to read this book.

As usual, Ruth Chou Simons not only creates beautiful things but writes with such biblical wisdom and pastoral tenderness. She has a wonderful way of encouraging you along the way, gently pointing your heart back to the Lord and reminding you of the beauty of becoming more like Christ.

A Beautiful Unfolding is a companion into godliness. It is a reminder that our becoming doesn't happen all at once, but through the small, daily choices we make as we walk with the Lord. Our everyday decisions, the things we love, the habits we cultivate, and where we fix our eyes all shape who we are becoming.

The words that spoke to me the most were:

“Prayer isn’t a race.”

“All the best things that grow strong and beautiful grow with time. There’s no prize for speedy sanctification.”

The word I chose for the rest of this year is slow. Little did I know when I chose it that sanctification would also be part of that process. How easily I can want to rush the very things God is patiently growing in me. These words were such a gentle reminder that becoming more like Christ is not something to hurry through. It is a lifelong journey of daily obedience, dependence on His grace, and learning to trust His timing.

There is something so reassuring about remembering that slow growth is still growth. That the small, faithful choices we make each day matter. That God is at work even when the progress feels unseen or slower than we would like.

This is a book I want to return to, underline, and sit with slowly. It has encouraged me to be more intentional with my days, to consider what my choices reveal about what I treasure, and to remember that the person I am becoming is being shaped in the seemingly ordinary moments of life.

A beautiful, biblical, and deeply encouraging read. I am so grateful for this book and would wholeheartedly recommend it.
