Description
In Faith Acts, activists and popular writers Dillon Burroughs and Jimmy Turner offer scriptural and personal ministry insights to show that authentic faith is based on how we apply the Bible, not on how much we claim to believe its words. Sharing real-life stories of assisting children living out of hotels, alcoholics dying on the street, and addicts looking for a reason to live, these authors offer a provocative look at how the hope of Christ can change even the worst circumstances—when ordinary, Christian believers commit to the principles of God’s Word and “do what it says.”

“I could not put the book down! I could not wait to read the next story. Knowing these places, these situations, more important, these people and how their lives have been transformed made this book come alive. I know evangelism. In my work as Evangelism Specialist for the Tennessee Baptist Convention I have seen several definitions for the Great Commission work we call evangelism but none as clear and vivid as what I read and saw in the pages of “Faith Acts.”—Steve Pearson, Harvest Field Team Leader, Evangelism Specialist, Tennessee Baptist Convention
“For too long, Christians have embraced the false choice between piety and activism, between gospel proclamation and gospel implications. The gospel of the kingdom, that declares Christ as Lord over all, doesn't allow God's people to live this way. I'm thankful for the winsome call of Acts of Faith, which issues a necessary challenge to the church toward both courage and civility, to ask what it means to offer the world a glimpse of God's renewal of all things.”—Daniel Darling, Vice-President of Communications, The Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission and author of several books including The Original Jesus
“Some preach. Some practice. A few do both, they practice what they preach. Jimmy and Dillon are two of those who do both and do it well. Understanding we were ALL made in the image of God, they reveal their love for God by loving people, especially people who have few to love them. They DO what the Bible tells us to do! This book should come with a WARNING. For as you read it you too will be compelled to DO what it says!”—David Nelms, President/Founder of The Timothy Initiative

I was given a copy of Faith Acts by the publisher and there partnership with Netgalley in exchange for my honest review:
Dillon Burroughs and Jimmy Turner asks a very important questions. Could you be convicted for being a Christian? How clearly is tour faith working in action? Can you be accused of being a friend to the sinners?
Is there sufficient evidence to convict you of being a devoted follower to Christ?
We are also reminded of the importance of reaching to those outside of our Church Circle of friends.
The importance of giving to those less fortunate and to end bondage is highlighted in this book as well. The authors remind us that we as Christians need to take a stand for those who cannot stand for themselves.
The authors of Faith Acts reminds us that we need to take the Bile seriously. We are also reminded of that we need to take Church outside of the four walls of a building and take it to those who need it most.
Faith Acts is a wonderful tool for either individual study or group study.
I give this book five out of five stars
Happy Reading

This book tells many stories of faith, hope, action, and redemption. The authors started a ministry called Relevant Hope, which is based in Chattanooga, TN. Their initial mission was to serve the homeless wherever they are and provide whatever they need. Since its inception, Relevant Hope has now become a full-time calling. The operation is based on James 1:22 which tells us to not only read the Word, but to do what it says. They say that church leaders from across the nation have visited their ministry to see what faith in action looks like among the homeless of a community.
In a recent Barna survey, Chattanooga was ranked the "Most Bible-minded City" of 2014. The authors were struck with the fact that their most Bible-minded city in the United States was facing increasing levels of homelessness and homicides. They came to the conclusion that one reason was because believers are not in the streets living out their faith. It's due to knowing what the Bible says yet being content to live aware without application. Though our salvation is based on faith, not works, James made it clear that faith without works is dead. Jesus also communicated that our actions should allow others to see our good deeds and draw them to give glory to the Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16).
Jesus illustrates that our greatest mission is often the person in front of us. When He was out among the people and got interrupted, Jesus started where He was and helped those who were nearest Him. Many churches often need to be reminded of the Great Commission and the greatest commandments. We often acknowledge that someone is in need and offer prayer for them, but then we fail to take action and be an answer to our own prayers.
Towards the middle of the book there is a good discussion on the debate of whether or not Jesus himself was actually homeless. There are many different schools of thought regarding this, but Biblical evidence shows that it is likely true. That doesn't mean that Jesus was destitute and was constantly in need though. Another section discusses the group that Jesus called "the least of these". Jesus says that when we serve the most vulnerable and forgotten people in our society, we serve Him. Other sections of note are included at the end of the book. There is a discussion guide that would be helpful for self- or small group study, a guide to ministering to individuals with PTSD, and a section of FAQs about Relevant Hope.
I enjoyed the many stories where we were introduced to the homeless individuals that the authors minister to. We are invited into their camps and we hear their stories firsthand. I would recommend this book to all Christians, and I hope we can all be inspired to serve and love our fellow man, no matter who or where they are. I received this as a Free ARC from New Hope Publishers on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
