This story has some wonderful illustrations to bring the book to life - Malcolm and Maggie were great. It was well written and I loved the song - I loved that it was really interactive. The book gives a great overview on how the Sugarcane is harvested! It is 4 stars from me for this one - highly recommended!

The Sugarcane Harvester Song by Cynthia Sappracone combines music, machinery, and meaningful representation in a picture book format. The story follows Malcolm, a young protagonist with a limb difference, as he explores sugarcane harvesting alongside his bird friend Maggie.
The book alternates between song verses (set to "The Wheels on the Bus" melody) and rhyming couplets, creating an interactive reading experience that invites children to sing along while learning about agricultural equipment. The illustrations are warm and engaging, bringing both characters and the sugarcane fields to life.
The educational element is woven naturally into the narrative, teaching readers about farming in an accessible way. Malcolm's presence provides important representation, helping normalize diversity in children's literature. Maggie serves as an appealing sidekick, adding visual interest and companionship to the story.
The book succeeds in blending entertainment with education - I learned a lot! There is representation, information, music, and rhyme to create an experience that children will likely enjoy while learning about both farming and inclusivity.
