Description
From Wall Street Journal bestselling author Dylan Allen writing as Lucy Wilson-Tagoe comes the first story in her new Blurred Lines Duet series…
Who gets to tell this story?
The sinner who lived it?
Or the saint who stole it?
Sin Sackey is driven by the same hardwired need as every eldest first-generation daughter—to make her family proud. And she built her career and chose her partners with that single goal as her north star.
Everyone said she had it all. And for more than twenty years, Sin let herself believe they were right.
Until a near-death experience makes the truth impossible to deny.
Her relationship is on life support. Her journalism career is in freefall. And the city she thought she’d conquer has chewed her up and spit her out.
With everything to prove—and everything to lose—Sin moves back home to Washington, DC, determined to start over. No more chasing shadowy criminals. And no more men who look too good to be true.
But on the eve of the first day of the rest of her new life, the saying about old habits proves painfully accurate.
A new lead falls into her lap, and Sin dives back into the story that nearly cost her everything.
Then, when a man who is all the things she’s sworn to avoid invites her to dinner, she says yes.
After everything she’s been through, it’s reckless.
But this story could resurrect her career—and take down an entire black-market empire. She’s closer than ever to catching its elusive leader, and she can’t let go now.
And this man—who makes her blush, makes her laugh, and understands things she usually has to explain—could be the one. So, she lowers her walls just enough for him to climb over.
But just when it seems her gamble might pay off, her lead starts to feel more like a trap. And the man she’s let herself love appears to be the one who set it.
To Catch a Sinner is a steamy, suspenseful friends-to-lovers romance between a relentless journalist and a mysterious lawyer with a complicated shared past. Set against a fictionalized Washington, DC, this fast-paced, high-stakes story explores reclaiming identity, challenging power, and the pursuit of a new American dream.

Wow…I don’t know where to start. We meet Sin as her life imploding. She loses her job/promotion and finds out her longtime boyfriend has been cheating with the woman who sabotaged her work and took her promotion. Their place had also been broken into and she had walked in on that. So she’s meets Kwame who is still mourning the death of his Mom and hoping to get closer to his Dad. They meet through an almost one night stand and then months later when his Mom leaves something to her parents in her will. He also inherits an insane amount of money, They dance around each other through most of the book as she navigates her new job (which is drastically different from her being an investigative reporter) and he is navigating a new career after fulfilling his Mom’s request through her will. There is an also a connection between the story she wants to write and Kwame’s family. This book does end on a cliffhanger which I wish had been mentioned before I started the book. BUT I can’t wait to read the next installment. This first one was well paced with great character development and plenty of heat in between, Truly enjoyed it!
This was such a compelling and engaging blend of suspense and romance that immediately pulled me in. The premise is strong, and the execution kept me invested from beginning to end. The balance between the investigative storyline and the emotional development of the characters was so well done.
The supporting characters, particularly the family dynamics, added meaningful layers to the story. Most important for me the cultural elements were a highlight. The Ghanaian culture, Black art, and community created a rich, immersive backdrop that enhanced the narrative and screamed blackness at its best.
That said, there were a few things that seemed rushed over, most notably, the moment when Kwame reveals his father’s identity to Sin’s parents. He was so worried about it but we didn’t get the entire discussion.
Also the ending felt somewhat rushed and abrupt. While it is clear this is the first installment in a series and is intended to lead into book two, the conclusion came across as slightly incomplete…almost as if it cut off mid-thought. That was the only reason this wasn’t a 5 star rating however I still devoured the book and look forward to grabbing a physical copy and reading book 2.
Lucy Wilson-Tagoe kicks off the Blurred Lines Duet with a sharp, emotionally layered romance that balances intensity, vulnerability, and high-stakes tension beautifully.
This is the kind of story that pulls you in quickly and keeps you invested through strong character work and a steady build of emotional depth. The writing feels confident and immersive, with a protagonist whose ambition, flaws, and determination make her incredibly compelling to follow. There’s a real sense of personal growth threaded throughout, which gives the story weight beyond the romance.
The chemistry is undeniable, built on meaningful interactions and a slow unfolding of trust. The emotional tension between the leads is handled with care, creating a connection that feels both passionate and complicated in the best way. It’s the kind of romance that leans into longing, vulnerability, and the risk of opening yourself up again.
What elevates this even more is the balance between emotional storytelling and forward momentum. The pacing keeps things engaging, while the layered dynamics—career, family, and relationships—add richness without overwhelming the narrative.
Overall, this is a strong, addictive start to a duet—smart, steamy, and emotionally grounded. It leaves a lasting impression and makes it very hard not to immediately want the next installment.
Kwame Palmer and Arsinoe “Sin” Sackey previously met in a hotel restaurant and shared a passionate evening. Unbeknownst to them both, Kwame’s mother was Sin’s parents’ landlord. Kwame returns to the East Coast to fulfill the wishes of his mother a few months after her death. One of these wishes lead him to Sin’s parents’ home. Sin has recently endured a traumatic event as well as someone stealing her work as a journalist and moves back home to D.C. Her and Kwame become friends and feelings grow quickly. I will not spoil the book but I will say that this is my favorite read so far. I wanted more at the end and I can’t wait to read the next installment.

Love, love, love! I inhaled this book! The writing is sharp, great details and imagery. I love the backstory of the family and how the mystery and intrigue unfolds. I did not realize this was book 1 of a series, so I was torn up with the cliffhanger! So good, cannot wait to read again on the release.
Perfect 👌 Once again this author captures my entire world!!! Heart stopping drama, journey of falling, mystery and betrayal. To Catch a Sinner is a must read masterpiece that will have readers grappling for more.

To Catch a Sinner by Dylan Allen writing as Lucy Wilson‑Tagoe is a propulsive, morally nimble thriller that pairs sharp plotting with surprising emotional depth, following a protagonist whose choices ripple outward into a web of secrets, loyalties, and small betrayals; Allen’s prose is lean and urgent, keeping the tension taut while allowing quieter moments of character revelation to land, and the book excels at balancing suspense with the human costs of deception, so that every twist feels earned rather than gratuitous. The pacing moves briskly but never sacrifices clarity, and the supporting cast is drawn with enough texture to make alliances and antagonisms feel lived‑in; themes of trust, identity, and the price of survival thread through the narrative, giving the story weight beyond its page‑turning mechanics. If you enjoy thrillers that reward both adrenaline and reflection, this novel delivers a satisfying blend of clever plotting and emotional resonance that lingers after the final twist.

I saw the author post about this on Threads and immediately signed up for the ARC. By the time I started reading, I had no idea what it was about. I thought thriller… then it started giving romance… and then I realized it was both. And listen… I LIVE for a well done romantic thriller.
But let’s be honest. Most don’t get it right. The thriller side usually falls flat.
Not this one.
This was the perfect blend. The suspense pulled me in with just enough questions to keep me turning pages, and the romance gave me something to root for without overpowering the story.
And the cultural elements? Beautifully done.
The blend of African culture and customs felt immersive and intentional. The food, the clothing, the energy… it felt lived in. Not forced. You can tell this was written by someone who understands that first-gen experience of straddling both worlds.
At the center is Sin, a journalist trying to rebuild her life and career after everything falls apart, who gets pulled back into a dangerous story tied to a black-market empire. And of course… there’s a man she knows she should avoid, but doesn’t.
Sin deserves to win. She deserves happiness.
And Kwame? I love a MMC who wants to build something of his own and not just exist in his father’s shadow. That man stood on business.
Now my ONLY issue… that cliffhanger???
I’m sick 😭 Because not only do I have to wait for book two, this one isn’t even out yet. So now I’m just sitting here with questions and no answers. It was so good that waiting feels disrespectful at this point.
This releases on my birthday, June 23rd, so go ahead and preorder it for me. Thank you 🫶🏾

Another book off the shelf. We keep reading with intention. 📚
Lucy Wilson-Tagoe has delivered an incredible suspense debut with To Catch a Sinner, a story that is as intellectually stimulating as it is emotionally gripping. Set against the sharp and fast-paced backdrop of Washington, D.C., the story follows Sin, a woman who has walked away from her high-stakes life as a New York investigative journalist for the relatively quiet world of an advice column. However, the past has a way of catching up, and the very story she tried to leave behind begin calling her back just as she crosses paths with Kwame. A prosecutor returning from California to navigate a complicated family dynamic with his father. As the sparks fly between them, their lives and professional worlds become intertwined in ways neither of them could have anticipated.
What truly sets this book apart is the way it showcases Ghanaian culture, history, and family life. The author avoids common depictions and instead offers a rich, nuanced look at a family dynamics and community that feels vibrant and real. I was especially impressed by the depth of research and context woven into the plot. You walk away from this book having truly learned something, whether it is the reverberating impact of colonialism or specific touchstones of American and Ghanaian history. This educational layer never slows the story down; rather, it adds a profound weight to the narrative.
The dialogue is another standout feature, filled with smart and witty banter that perfectly matches the energy of the D.C. setting. While the romance provides a much-needed sense of calm against the tension of the plot, the suspense keeps you on edge until the very last page. When I reached the ending, I was left completely shocked by a surprise character pop-up and a final twist that had me screaming! It is the kind of cliffhanger that makes you want the second book immediately. I highly recommend this captivating story to anyone looking for a suspenseful, culturally rich, and swoony read.

I really great book, I loved the main characters and also the secondary ones, which were characterized extremely well and with depth in this book.
Very engaging plot with well-executed twists, I can't wait to read the sequel.
THE ENDING?! Lucy, why would you do this to me?! This book was great from start to finish. I really enjoyed the multiple dynamics, especially between Sin and Kwame, the Sackeys and Kwame, and Oz, Kwame, and Kwame’s father. The balance between romance and suspense was also PERFECT. With that cliffhanger, I needed Book #2 YESTERDAY. Nevertheless, I’m so excited for this series.
One of my very favorite subgenres of romance is romantic thriller. This book gave great romantic thriller but be forewarned-this is a duet that ends on a cliffhanger. What impressed me about this book was the world it created within the DMV, but the details of the world never bogged down the twists, turns, culture, or steam. I was invested in it all and look forward to the conclusion.
This was such a strong blend of romance and suspense, with the Ghanaian cultural elements really grounding the story. The banter, the family expectations, the pressure—it all felt authentic and added an extra layer to Sin’s character and motivations.
Kwame stood out immediately. If you’re familiar with the DC dating scene, he feels very recognizable—polished, established, and a little too smooth in a way that keeps you questioning him. That dynamic between him and Sin leans into that “twin flame” energy—very mirrored, very emotionally charged, and hard to ignore.
The romance is definitely the driving force here, with the suspense woven in. Readers expecting a thriller-first story may want to adjust expectations slightly—it’s more of a romance with thriller elements rather than a full cat-and-mouse suspense novel. That said, the stakes are still present, and the emotional tension carries the story well.
I did find myself wanting a bit more from the investigative side. There are strong moments of interviews and reflection, but I would have loved to see more on-page discovery—more action, more risk, and more of Sin actively piecing things together in real time. It occasionally felt like we were being told key developments rather than experiencing them alongside her.
Structurally, clearer time markers would have also helped with some of the time jumps between chapters.
The chemistry, though, absolutely lands. The romance feels earned, layered, and engaging, with a solid level of spice that fits naturally into the story.
Overall, this is a compelling and immersive read that leans into emotional intensity, identity, and ambition, while still delivering on romance and intrigue.
And now I’m just sitting here wondering what I’m supposed to do until book two… because I will be back.

I want to start by saying yes, read it, absolutely. This book is a ride, it’s fun, entertaining, emotional, and informational. I had a really fun time reading it. I loved how Dylan Allen, writing as Lucy Wilson-Tagoe, brought the African diaspora into this story. The culture and family dynamics of growing up in an African family are discussed, not just the difficult parts; it really highlights family values and how they shape us into who we are today. I did enjoy Sin and Kwame’s relationship also, and getting to know both of them separately and together. I felt like it was a slow burn and focused mostly on digging into both of their families’ and their backgrounds. It was interesting to see how much Sin and Kwame had in common and how they were almost led to each other. Even from the first scene with him, recognizing a particular scent, down to how they grew up, and how they were almost always interconnected in some way. The thread of the mystery throughout this book would pop up at times, and it left me really wanting more. There were times when I felt like the book was moving slowly in the beginning sections. As I got to the end, I saw how the entire book was really a setup for the ending, which honestly left me with my mouth open. I do feel like the end of the book moved quickly, and I wish some of the parts we got at the end had been sprinkled throughout the story more. I will say there are a lot of open-ended questions I have, and I can not wait for the next book. Lucy Wilson-Tagoe did an excellent job setting us up for the next installment. It’s a fun mystery and romance combination.
Lucy Wilson-Tagoe definitely got me with this one! To Catch a Sinner gave suspense, romance, secrets, stress, and a heroine who just could not stay out of trouble no matter how hard she tried. Sin was trying to start over and mind her business, but the minute a new lead dropped in her lap AND a fine mysterious man entered the picture… I already knew peace was not an option..
The only reason this wasn’t a full 5 stars for me is because the middle slowed down just a little, but once it picked back up, I was LOCKED back in. And that ending? Absolutely rude. Now I’m over here waiting impatiently for book two because I need answers and I need them immediately.
I freaking loved this book so much. It was compelling and from the first page it immediately captured my attention and I couldn’t get enough. The writing was deeply satisfying and engaging. The dialogue and banter was done extremely well. I loved how Ghanaian culture was depicted throughout the book.
Sin, our FMC was absolutely incredible, driven, relentless, sharp and fierce. I loved how much of a risk taker she was when it came to investigating. Kwame was so lovable, charming and a bit enigmatic which I loved. It was so sweet how absolutely smitten he was over Sin. I loved watching the romance blossom between the two of them, it was very evident that they were meant to be. They had such an intense connection. I can’t wait to see more of it in book two.
Now as much as I loved this book the only reason it wasn’t five stars is because I expected the investigation to be a little bit more intense. Towards the last chapters I feel the stakes were getting high in the investigation but I wanted more of it throughout the book. Sometimes I forget that an investigation into a Black market ring stealing ancient artifacts from a museum was the plot of the story. But this is only book one so maybe book two will up the ante.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for book two.

To Catch a Sinner was such an addictive mix of romance and suspense. Sin is a strong, layered heroine, and I loved watching her navigate career pressure, family expectations, and dangerous secrets while trying to rebuild her life. The chemistry between her and the mysterious lawyer was intense, and the tension kept me hooked the entire time.
Fast-paced, emotional, and packed with twists, this is a gripping romantic suspense with plenty of heat and heart.

This was a different kind of read for me and I’m glad I took the chance on it.
The twists, the turns, and the overall writing kept me hooked from start to finish. It gave romance but layered with a strong mystery vibe that added depth to the story. Sin’s journey pulled me in, especially watching her step into something she didn’t fully understand. As Black women, we often find ourselves navigating so many responsibilities at once, sometimes putting ourselves on the line in the process and that element felt very real here.
Sin had no idea what she was walking into, and honestly, experiencing it alongside her made the story even more impactful.
Whew… a time was definitely had.
Wow. this whole book took me by complete surprise. This was an even amount of romance and mystery. As the eldest daughter, Sin has the need to make her parents proud. Have the perfect job. Have the perfect man. Get married. But life seems to have a different path for her. Her career as a journalist isn't working out. then, she just found out her "perfect" boyfriend has been cheating on her. Everything seems to be falling apart until she gets the opportunity that could take her journalist career to the top. No more men, just focus on her career.
She meets Kwame. He is the definition of GQ smooth. He's charismatic, handsome and they just connect so well. He lowers her walls she's put up.
I found the pace of the book really good. I was eager to get to every chapter. I really don't want to walk about the mystery aspect because it will definitely give it away. There are crumbs of suspense that lead you to the big reveal.
The romance between Sin and Kwame is intoxicating. The fire between them is HIGH. It takes you by surprise!
To Catch a Sinner is a fun time! I really enjoyed it. I gave it 4.75 starts. I cannot wait to read book 2!
Thank you netgally and Blue Box Press for the ARC!

wow what a brilliant book to get stuck into. and get stuck in i did. very quickly i knew this was going to be one of those books id start and have to finish.
Lucy does such a good job of making layer after layer form in this read. i could not get enough and everything played out like it was somehow always meant to, Lucy was always meant to tell it. there is nuance, its not all black and white and it pulls you in needing to know more than how it will all play out. what will i be left thinking?is their a side to be picked?
suspense and romance has become a little new go-to for me.i say that with some tip toeing though as more than my other genre this one in particular has to be done right and that balance can be really difficult to achieve. this one does it right for me.
Sin is an investigative journalist who returning home after a near death event. her life and self seem to be crumbling in more ways than one. she needs to rebuild. does she need to change how shes doing things in order for this to happen?
well, good intentions or not seem to fly quickly out the window when she meets a lawyer who becomes very important in her now and going forward. they both have issues or weights t their shoulder so this already feels quite fragile. watching their coming together and connection was a delight and i couldn't get enough.
this book had so many bonus points and moments to it. the suspense was gripping and clever and only added to the emotional investment i also had in the story.
i fully felt for Sin. she left that high paced life behind. she was aiming for here and now calmer. but the past and that very story that ruined her before has its way of tugging at her last thread of staying power, its drawing her back. meeting Kwame might complicate or ease things, will it all go wrong if their person and professional lives meet or clash?
there is so much more to this book besides the above and the supporting cast and family dynamic once again adds to its richness.
i just wanted to know more from every corner this book reached. every moment had me smiling, holding my breath and even learning something.
this book captured my readers heart in so many ways. too many to mention. you know when some books just sink into your skin and soul. this is one of those books. and i really want to go into more but im having to really tie my hands behind my back so as not to give all the best bits away! its definitely ones of those great reads where joy comes from thinking and telling anyone and every about it all over again once you've finished.
the cultural elements in this book for me were top tier, top notch. just beautifully done.
i was invested in Sin. i was by her side cheering her on and also worried for her and wanted to pull her back into a quite world where nothing could touch her. i was protective very quickly of this woman and her world. and Kwame and her. eeeeeeeee feet kicking souls touching these two were IT.
but i am not happy. not happy at all. how can i say this when ive just written a gushing review i hear you ask? well, that because it ended like it did and i do not have the next book in my hands right this very second to read on!!grrr its the best worst problem to have when you find a brill author and fab book.
